1.
I don't want to make any one mad but I don't want any part of a SLC with DII schools moving up to replace Texas State, UTSA and budget cuts that could kill football programs in Louisiana. I do think that it is best for Lamar to stay in the SLC for about the next 5 years to see if we are competitive and good enough to challenge for the conference title. However, Lamar is growing as I saw a graph with at least $120 million in renovation and new contruction on the Lamar University campus. If coachacola reads this I wish he'd post the graph I'm talking about. Anyway, it shows what is planed from now until the year 2014. I've heard people talk about how nice the campus is compared to when they attended the university. Well, by 2014 with $120 spent on renovation and new construction the campus will be even nicer. Conferences don't just look at the athletic part of a university but also the academic side too. No one can say what the SLC is going to look like in 5-10 years and if enrollment tops 20,000 students at Lamar as has been suggested, LU will be big enough to be in a FBS conference.
If, if, if................we can be as big of a school as we want but if we cannot dominate a conference like the southland we have NO BUSINESS going FBS.  I don't care how many students we have. Bottom line is if we move to a larger conference and don't have a very solid program to that conferences standards(I mean competing consistently for conference championships) Beaumont will not support the team and it will be gone once again.
 2. Sounds Good.  See ya Saturday Hopefully.  Go LU!
 3. I didn't say they were dropping it.  I said there were talks about it.
 4. Far from a bumpkin pal. Trust me I know what it takes to win at D1 college athletics.  I did it at Lamar!!! We are bigger than Monroe and Ruston???????????  Who cares.  They completely suck.  Are we bigger than Denton?  No.  So let's be North Texas. They are currently talking about getting rid of their program. This program needs local support and the only way to get that is to win. The only place we are going to consistently win is FCS. The minute we stop winning the people in this town quit supporting and that is a simple fact. That is what Beaumont does. We will never be on the national spectrum in football it is a fact of life people.
 5. didnt figure there would be an answer there.
 6.
Call me crazy, but I would rather the program strive for championships in FCS than aspire to 6-5 seasons in FBS and hopefully get one Tuesday night game a year while playing in the lower levels of FBS.  I truly hope that it is not what Dr. Simmons and Coach Tubbs brought the program back for.  I could care less if there are ever any nationally-televised games as long as the program is winning.  I would be willing to wager a pretty sizeable bet that neither Troy nor Middle Tennessee State garnered any additional students on their campuses from playing a Tuesday night game on ESPN in the first week of October.  Let's assume we go to the Sun Belt.  Do you think Middle Tennesse State would pack them in at the Stadium more than Sam Houston or SFA?  I would say no.
I could not agree more!!!!!!!!!  Not to mention it is something we can maintain and that is important.  It is impossible for us to maintain a high level in a big conference.  Just a fact.

 8.
Sleepy, I know about the landscape of college recruiting and college athletics. Brother played college football and was recuited by McNeese, SFA, Texas A&I (now Texas A&M -Kingsville) and a few others even one from a school in Iowa and coached for 8 seasons. This is a first for me as it is for every Lamar fan and I understand we are yound and we have dept problems and probably missed on a couple kids that could have helped by being a first year start up program. You stated we are a few points from being 3-2. Well I hate to tell you we are 14 points from being 0-5. Remember the late score versus Webber or we are going to overtime and the best team doesn't always win in OT. Then versus SE Louisiana if we don't score with about 2 minutes left in that game we lose there. Here is my bottom line. I've waited 21 years for football to return to Lamar University. I think Coach Woodard is the right man for the job. I think our facilties will be the best in the SLC and I think it will help him with recruiting. Obviously, you have spend some quality time with Ray Woodard but if he can be unhappy with a loss can't I also be unhappy as well as any other Lamar supporter? I just don't see me or any other Lamar fan talking about the defense having problems tackling or the offense having problems running the football as DOGGING THE TEAM or COACHING STAFF. BTW, Coach Whitten is the OC but if Coach Woodard tells him to run the ball more I promise you the Cardinals will run the ball more. There is no doubt who is the head dog here at Lamar.   I will continue to support this athletic program as well as all the other sports in which the Cardinals field a team. I promise you I'm no disgruntled fan or booster. I've been a fan of Lamar sports since age 12 and I'm now 43 and I was also a student at Lamar. Father worked for Lamar (his job now would be with LIT) and my stepfather retired from Lamar. So I too bleed red and white. Also, my brother transferred to Lamar after his sophomore year and his wife transfered from Texas A&M to Lamar and they are both Lamar alumnus and got married while still in school.
I have a sister who teaches autistic children but that doesn't qualify me to pass judgment on other teachers in her field.   Your second line where you put we are 14 points 0-5 explains your view perfectly.  Looking at it from a negative perspective as soon as we lose instead of taking positives on what has happened this season. I will agree to disagree.
 9.
I do agree to support Lamar win or lose ( no matter what) but i do feel we could do some things a little better (tackle, block, ect.)....Rain or shine I'll be there..... Go Cards
I agree we can and will do things better.  But it will take time is the only thing I hope people realize.
 10.
I was out of town this weekend so I was unable to attend the game, but my Grandfather was on of the "Lamar Legends" and my parents went with them to a luncheon and a tour.  My younger brother and I both Graduated from Sam Houston and He played football for the Bearkats so my parents have been in and around football facilities and the fiirst thing they said when I got back was "WOW"...you guys have the best facilities around, the best gameday atmosphere and a team that at one time many people thought would have maybe one win coming into this past weekend but instead you had a team that scared Mcneese, beat SELA, and had every Bearkat fan I know wondering if we could beat you or not coming into this game.  Im a season ticket holder to Sam Houston football games and my Mom hasnt asked to come to a game in years and after this past weekend she wants to come.  Point being it took time to build the facilities, hype up the atmosphere and its gonna take time to bring the team around.  Im ecstatic at the outcome of the game last saturday, but I wish you guys the best of luck for success the rest of the way and I plan to be at a few mor LU games this season when my Kats are away.
See.  Now that is a level headed post.
 11.
By the looks of some of the posts on here, one might think that some folks were looking forward to Lamar starting up football so that they could criticize it. To quote a banned poster from here, "You people!" ::) ;D
Exactly right AAW!!!
 12.
Lamar football will be just fine. Success take time. Can we just enjoy the start up of football again. There is nothing better than watching what is happening on that campus when there is a home football game. Go Cards!!!!!!
Very refreshing WB Bear.  What I wanted to say.
 13.
fire the coach?  where did you read that sleepy /and or twit? havent read a post where anyone said that. not that i want either , just stating a fact to your rant: both Ga st and godforsaken UTSA are start ups with  coaches with d-1 expericene, so get your facts straight expect too much?  i don't think expecting a tackle here and there is expecting too much...at least against Sam they didnt roll over like they did at Nac. they keep playing like that have the last 2 games and they may just  pull an 0-fer the rest of the season...and I'll be out there -rain or shine note to Ray...there are about 48yds -sideline to sideline-of unused turf in between those *#@%! go routes.
If you will look back coachacola said we need to make some changes to the staff in the offseason.  That is where I got that and it is a complete joke. I just find it funny that everyone had pegged Ray Woodard as the next coming after week one and now he is not impressive and the players suck. As for your note to Ray.  He is a defensive guy so you may wanna make that note to Todd Whitten who is the OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR.  And Todd Whitten would talk circles around you when it comes to offense. BigRed360.  Just so you know I have spoken with coach woodard about the game and no he is not happy.  Where did I say he would be happy about a loss?  They could play the New York Giants and he wouldn't be happy losing.  He also understood this was going to happen with a new program and that this is the territory this job comes with early on. I don't think this has anything to do with knowing football and not knowing football.  I think it has to do with knowing the landscape of COLLEGE RECRUITING and COLLEGE ATHLETICS.  Ray had a "Sales pitch" and trust me from spending a large amount of time with him he is as good of a Salesman as there is.  However, the sales pitch is great but when you have to sale against not having a program for the last 21 years that is much harder than ANYONE knows. Here is my bottom line.  Lamar University has made HORRID mistakes hiring and firing basketball coaches for the last 20 years and it has cost our basketball program dearly.  Mostly because of disgruntled fans and boosters.  I don't want the same for the football program.  If you look at Lamar's top two athletic programs they have had coaches in place for a very long time.  I bleed red and have for 25 years.  I am a former student athlete but more importantly I was attending basketball games from age 3 on.  I was the first to buy season tickets and tailgaiting spots among doing other things.  I hate it when there has been such a build up and things IMHO are going so well and people come on here a dog the program 5 games in to their first season.  Unrealistic expectations have killed this school for 20 years and I don't want the same to happen now.  That's my stand.
 14.
Coach Woodard may need to make some adjustments to his staff this offseason.  Is there a reason Nathan Reeves is the offensive line coach when he has no experience coaching this position?  There's a lot of HS coaches on the staff, and very few with D1 college coaching experience.  Seems like Todd Dodge at UNT took a lot of heat for bringing in too many HS coaches. SHSU may be a little younger plus they have a new coaching staff, but I bet they have more overall depth and experience just because they are not starting from scratch like Lamar is.  Next year we'll get a better read on this team after Woodard gets a year D1 coaching behind him and he brings in another round of recruits.
Tell me your not serious.  What coaches would leave other programs to come to Lamar as a first year program???? Come on!!!!
 15. You guys just don't quite understand.  Ray Woodard has been recruiting to a school that has not had a football program for 25 years.  They cannot win the conference for the first year and when you tell a recruit that it is very hard to get them here.  Not to mention that players don't want to go to a start up program.  After the McNeese game Ray Woodard and his staff were the next coming of Bo Schembechler and now he needs to fire his staff.  Just because Sam Houston is younger in spots does not mean that we should beat them. The quality of recruits they get are better because they have had a program for the last 25 years.  You people simply amaze me.  Every coach in the world will tell you that he can be as great a coach as he wants but without players you can't win.  We don't have capable backups because we are a new program and we are banged up.  You people are evaluating a staff on 5 games in the first year back and they are 2-3 and one score away from 3-2.  Wake up and smell the coffee.  We will not compete for a conference championship for at least 3 years and that is a fact and normal. Also, credit Lamar for the schedule they are playing.  Most 1st year teams schedule Mary Mother of the Blind every single week in their first year to pad their schedule.  They dang sure wouldn't agree to big rival games like Lamar has. I personally am very satisfied with what Lamar has done and think they are headed in the right direction.  Time people.  Time.
 16.
We have had 2 BAD games in our 1st year.... Whoopie... What did people expect... We are playing a much tougher schedule than the other start ups. We actually got some top 25 votes... Yes the wheels have fell off but the season is not lost..  We just need to come out our next 2 home games and play with some FIRE and AGGRESSION! That will get the crowd PUMPED UP and get our swagger back!
Well said.  Peoples expectations around here are a joke.  They think they know football and college athletics and they have NO FREAKING IDEA!!!!  Give it time people and support through the good and bad.
 17.
You are right there will be some real good teams in both tour. I think Evadale will go in thinking that if they play well in these games that will be as good as a win against weeker teams. I think that there 2,3,4,5, players are as good as any around, just hope that there 1 guard comes around. He sat out last year so he  is a little behind. I also think that no one will have as big of a team as them.
As good as any around in 1A or in all levels?
 18.

It looks to me like our coaching staff needs to prepare the team a little better and teach Bevil to look off a receiver every now and then. I do understand he is under pressure so I say(Bevil) RUN with the ball every now and then. We really need to practice some tackling drills, seems we can't tackle anyone unless we use 5-6 guys. I do think if the coaching staff is very good that in a couple years we should be much improved.
the coaching staff hasnt impressed me........please prove me wrong, Ray
The coaching staff hasn't impressed you?  Seriously are you stupid.  What should they do?  Get out there and play.  We are 5 games in to reviving a program that has been dead for 20 some odd years and trying to recruit to that is next to impossible.  What LU has done so far this year is a huge step in the right direction.  You people prove with statements like this how little you know about college athletics.
 19.
I'm gonna have to get a program to keep up with him  ;D
or maybe he should have some sort of GPS device inserted!!!
