Exactly like they did when they dropped the football program playing I-AA/FCS. Community support will once again dry up if LU continue to bring in "who are you" schools. That is a fact backed up by Lamars own history.
Football is a different game today than it was 25 years ago.  There is much more interest now than there was and we also have one man who as long as we satisfy him we are fine.  He does not want to go FBS tomorrow or anytime soon.  He wants to be a force in FCS for a while and see where it takes us.  If Lamar puts a WINNING product on the field that is ALL THAT MATTERS TO THIS COMMUNITY!!! There is one way for us to win now and that is FCS!
Why did you pick North Texas and not Boise st as your example?
What did Boise State do before they became Boise State?
 3.
You are right they were 3 in dist. last year and did go 2 deap in the playoffs. And it would not have mattered if they would have had Phill Jackson as a coach last year , there was no way they could have betten Kountze. But they should have betten Ana. and I will say this right now THE REASON THAT THEY LOST THAT PLAYOFF GAME WAS ME.  I should have never made my son quite. He did some thing that was stupid and I should have made him set out the suspension and play the playoffs. I am sorry for what I did to the other kids on that team. But there is nothing I can do about that now. But I wish them all the luck in the world and I am glad to see them moving forward and trying to impoving a allready good program.
You are crazy dude!!!
 4.
This guy has 582 wins in 27 years of being the head coach. I do not think he will be taking a back seat to anyone. Just dont know why anyone would think otherwise. But like I keep saying this is a great hire by EC.  Hope them all the success in the world. As far as taking teams to the state playoffs I will call my brotherinlaw and as him for sure how many times his dad has been ;D I thought he went once at EC and then in Call. Then again when he came back to Texas. But no dought he knows how to build a winning program.
See you are ASSUMING!!! The FACT is coach andrews will be calling the shots with the assistants input.
 5.
This is a great hire for EC and I dont care what you Call him. I am glad to see EC get back on top of this Dist. I am a lot closer to this than you might think. And no we are not moving back to EC we are happy were we are and this year will be a good for EC and Evadale. I have never said anything against Andrews so why are you attacking me I have said this will be a great opportunity for him to learn from a coach that has taken 3 teams to the state games in 3 classes. And cant wait to see them play this year. Evadale is playing in the HJ and EC tourment and hope to get a chance to play them this year.
You said "the only thing coach andrews will be deciding in what time the bus leaves."  That is BS!!! Coach andrews has worked his but off and deserves tons of respect.
 6. Get facts before you spew stuff on here.
This says it all, Andrews had final approval. The new Coach is going to be a mentor. This whole situation came about because Coach Andrews worked a summer camp put on by this Coach and then had him come put on a camp in Winnie. It will be a win /win situation for the kids and both Coachs if everyone else would quit making waves.
Well said!
 7. I would rather be a dominant FCS school that has a chance to win national championships than be north texas.  I have lived in Beaumont 30 years.  If the program is not winning they the town is not going to support it and that is a fact.  If the town is not supporting it than there is no revenue and that is what this program needs right now.  A solid foundation built and then talk about expansion.

This will be a great chance for Andrews to learn for a proven winning coach.
Andrews will be calling the shots.
The only thing Andrews will be calling is what time the bus will leave. The EC school board looks at this new Guy as a Basketball god. He will have total controll of this program. As I said before this will be a great chance for Andrews to learn from a winning coach how to build a winning program. EC just went from a 3 place team to a team that will fight for the 1 place spot.
So does that mean you are moving back there now?  You don't know CRAP!!!! Coach Andrews is a great coach and the new assistant will be yielding to him and that is a fact.
 9. He will also be assisting the girls program.

My former golf coach at Lamar is now the golf coach at the University of Arkansas.  A month ago he invited me to play in the athletic department and schools biggest supporters (Johny Tyson of Tyson Foods) golf tournament.  The reason I give you the name is because I got the grand tour from him of all of the facilities at the University because he is very proud of them obviously.  As he should be because they are amazing.  The thing about it is they are not any better than ours.  They are a bit bigger in scale and they do have an indoor practice facility but beyond that ours our every bit as good.  I thought that may give you guys a better idea of just how good ours are.
Thanks for sharing your experience of observing the facilities first hand. YOU ARE REALLY GETTING ME FIRED UP!
We should all be fired up in my opinion.  I am a realist and don't get overexcited about things to often.  I truly believe we can be a dominant d1aa team in the next 5-7 years.
Great post sleepy. From the pictures I've seen of the facilites they're first class.
I know this is hard to imagine but the pictures literally do it NO JUSTICE at all.  That is how good this place is.

I stated, "I was asking around for opinion from both sides of the stands. I've read comments such as..." Those were posts on different boards pertaining to the Lamar-McNeese score. None of the remarks were my own. And bigred360 - as much as you'd like to say film was available, it really was not. McNeese could prep off what they know of Todd Whitten's offense and not much else. Everything else is fair game, but again - these were NOT my comments
I know this much.  The McNeese coaching staff has lost sleep since finding out Lamar football was coming back because many of their players come from right here in the golden triangle.  McNeese wanted to do everything they could to not just beat Lamar but embarrass them because of this recruiting war that Lamar took a HUGE step in winning Saturday night.  My point is whoever said McNeese ran 5 plays and did not want to show anything is a COMPLETE BUFFOON!!!! So terror from today forward don't post his/her comments.

And I also know that explayers do have a little pull in getting someone in to a school, maybe not much but some.  So if you helped him get in that is great , that is what a parent is suppost to do. But like I said I am glad to see Lamar giving home grown kids a chance to play at home. As I said I did not mean to stur the feathers. Sorry If I have offended anyone. And I will delete my post but can not do anything about the post that copyed it
In 2003 the Silsbee Tigers had a kid by the name of William Morrisey who was recruited by EVERYONE in the country.  And when I say everyone I mean everyone.  Michigan, Iowa, Texas, TAMU, Ohio State.....need i say more came to Silsbee practices in 2003.  Guess what.........they were 0-10 and I can assure you in that winless season they were beat nearly that bad.  By the way Morissey went to TAMU. P.S.  I sat for 1 hour and talked with coach Woodard about the young persohn tonight and he could not have sounded more excited about him.  His exact words and I quote "Any kid as big as he is with a size 17 shoe and the coordination and talent he has is a kid I want."  True Blue.......quit talking when you do not know what you are talking about!!!
 19.
I'm not saying Lamar should turn down an invite to a FBS conference.  In fact, I'd be disappointed if they did turn down an invite and stayed in the SLC.  I think we have to set our expectations appropriately if Lamar does go FBS.  But if they don't start winning soon and keep winning a lot of games it won't really matter what level they end up at.
Exactly.  Winning brings support and that is what Lamar has to have.  Let's win first and move second!
 20.

There are a few drawbacks going FBS that cannot be taken lightly: 1.   The Sunbelt, MAC and WAC conferences have TV games on Thursday and Friday nights.  That sucks and I would hate for Lamar to have to play games on those nights.  It kills attendance and when I see Sunbelt teams play on those nights they don't look like FBS teams.  College football was not meant for weeknights! 2.  Lamar could do quite well playing games against top-notch FCS schools such as Appy State and Montana.  McNeese has scheduled a home game against Appy State, and if Lamar did the same it would probably be a sellout.  If they do the scheduling right and don't bring a lot of no-name D2 or NAIA teams to the stadium then I can see great crowds every Saturday. 3.  Lamar's athletic budget has to been driven by donations and ticket sales, not student fees like UTSA, Texas State, North Texas and others.  Keep Lamar affordable with a great athletic program along with ever improving academics (another engineering PhD program is on it's way) and Lamar will keep growing with a reasonable student fee for athletics.  (Texas Sate will soon be charging $20 per semester hour for athletics.  I don't want to see Lamar going FBS this way.) 4.  Lamar is picking up a lot of FBS transfers because they want to play at home and don't have to sit out a year.  Once Lamar goes FBS they'll be recruiting against the big boys and will lose most of those battles.  And when some of these players want to transfer out, they may not pick Lamar but go to McNeese or SFA instead because they won't have to see out a year. What are the advantages of going FBS that outweigh these drawbacks?
Coachacola you are always well spoken.  However, as with anything, we either see the glass as half full or half empty.  We can always find reasons to not do something or we can find reasons to actually give it a try. I personally have spent too much of my life finding reasons not to do what I really wanted to do and consequently have missed out on opportunities for fear of failure.  I refer back to my earlier post and the mindset of Billy Tubbs when he took the Head Coaching position at LU back in 75.  I don't advocate blind faith and reckless abandon in pursuit of going FBS, but I also dont wont to see the mindset that, "Oh well, we are little ole Lamar and we have no hope to be anything better than we are now" that will become a self fulfilling prophecy.
I don't believe that we should as you say "Oh well, we are little ole Lamar and we have no hope to be anything better than we are now".  But at the same time we shouldn't set the expectation that if we don't we are a failure.  That should be our ultimate goal but at the same time lets set goals that WE CAN CONTROL and be the best team and school we can be right now and if those things come our way we will deal with them.

Should we move to DII? I'm just using your logic. No other school uses such insane logic to keep itself down and out. Yet flourish in so many minds here and in SETX. Texas st and UTSA fans must be laughing TAO at the mindset on this forum.
They are laughing alright..............it is just at you.  Trust me when I say this that Lamar is not going anywhere for quite some time!!!! A. Because they will not have a chance to. B. Because they want to be succesful in at least one of the two major sports before making the jump.
 22.
UTSA is starting football from scratch with the absolute goal of going FBS ASAP!  They have two advantages over LU in that they are located in a major metropolitan area and they have the Alamodome at their disposal.  I'm not sure the Alamodome is a "big" advantage, but it is much larger and meets FBS standards whereas PU must be expanded and will never have that large of seating capacity.  That said, I think LU can match or beat UTSA in in every other aspect.  If Woodard puts together a 1st class program that is sucessful and generates excitement among students and the fan base, then success will breed success.  I hope that Dr. Simmons will explore every opportunity and thinks big.  If it turns out LU can't go FBS whether that is outside there control or not, then I hope the goal is to be the best FCS school in the nation.
I understand goals.  Fact of the matter is if you set goals and don't accomplish them you are a failure.  I believe we should set more realistic goals like winning games first.  Then competing in the conference. Then winning conference before we try to go to a major D1 conference.  If we went to major D1 in 2 years we would be the laughing stock of college football and you know what people do with programs that are not successful in southeast texas.  THEY DONT SUPPORT THEM!!! If LU can be a great Southland team they will get sooooo much support and it will be great for the community.  I believe those should be our goals.  I was a part of the resurrection of the Lamar University Men's Golf team.  It took 7 years for the team to become competitive.  That is golf not football.  I consider football the hardest sport of all to become competitive in due to the number of good/great players you must have.  In basketball you need 7 or 8...... in golf you need 5..... in baseball you can do it with 10..... in football you need 25.  It is a different world.  I just worry that if we set the goals to unrealistic for this program it will fail again and that is not what this community needs.  Just my thoughts.
 23. I truly have never seen anything like it.  3 years ago we were PRAYING to get football back and now we have people putting us in major d1 conferences and WE HAVE NOT EVEN PLAYED A GAME!!!!  Let's give these coaches and kids a chance to succeed.
 24. Does anyone remember how we got POUNDED in basketball in the Sunbelt?  We were a Southland power.........moved to the Sunbelt and look at where we are today.  Let's try to master the worst conference in all of college sports and then try to move from there.  You know...........crawl before we walk.
