Hardin-Jefferson/Orangefield Updates!!/ OF WINS!! 31-28!!
Bobkat replied to Bobcat1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think that was the HJ trainer that patched Ashton up...she's tough as nails and the great thing about Ashton is she's only a freshmen!!! -
1.Madisonville 2.Navasota 3.Taylor Madisonville beat Navasota last night 54-50 to win the district championship. Taylor and Navasota flipped a coin today with Taylor winning the flip but elected to take the 3rd place seed in the playoffs. Probably a smart move, they avoid playing Orangefield or Hardin Jefferson and now play the winner from district 22-3A in the second round, yes I said second round. They get a bye because there is no district 23-3A...I think that's right!!! I saw the game last night between Madisonville and Navasota, both teams are very solid. Region III is loaded this year, Taylor beat Navasota last week so they are solid as well. It's gonna be a tough road, but I believe 21-3A will have a huge say in who gets to the regional tournament.

A blind hog finds an acorn every now and then. ;D I would argue that that quote could be used on more than one occasion.....2/6/09.... I agree hjhawks....1-20-09 ;D -
Madisonville 59 Bryan Rudder 53 Navasota 56 Cameron 38 Taylor 70 Caldwell 34 Madisonville and Navasota are both 9-2 in district, they play each other in Madisonville for the district championship this coming tuesday. Taylor is 8-3 and will be the 3rd place team.

Guess the TABC knew what they were talking about after all...rankings look right to me!!! ;D

Orangefield has 5 freshmen on JV and 4 sophomores, but we also have 5 sophomores on varsity and a freshmen, so I see this battle continuing for sometime. Throw in the mix that our 8th graders have never lost a game in jr high and have won games on average this year by over 30 points in district play, it's gonna be fun to watch for the next 4 years or so.

Taylor beat Navasota this past Tuesday!!!

Lady Cats Power Past Lady Cards 83-26
Bobkat replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think they're talking about our shooting in general tonight, not free throws. We shot the ball extremely well tonight, I would think close to 50% from the field. And I don't remember us missing 15 free throws tonight either, but we might have. Lady Cats played well tonight!!! -
Jamie great post...JDad you should be proud of this young lady...and I know you are!!! I think I speak for most Orangefield fans when I say we really do respect your team and program. It's always fun when these two teams get together and play. Good luck to you Jamie and your teammates the rest of the year!!!
-
Better team won tonight, Congrats HJ!!! They shot the ball well, we didn't. They made their free throws, we didn't. They beat us on the boards tonight too. Can't win many ball games when you play like that, and you definitely can't win games against good teams when you play like that. Get your heads up ladies, there is still a lot of basketball yet to be played. You learn a lot more from a loss than you ever will from a win!!!

Hardin Jefferson @ Orangefield Tuesday!!
Bobkat replied to Bobcat1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
We are losing 3 starters off our JV team and 1 varsity player as they attend the inauguration in Washington this Tuesday. I'm sure there will still be a JV game, we'll just be very short handed!!! -
Both good ideas JDad...I remember several years ago they even tried to play the girls and boys games right after each other. If I remember correctly, they would play a JV game first and then play the varsity girls followed by the boys game. I think they would alternate the JV games each game between the boys and girls and the remaining JV and freshmen games were played on like Monday's and Thursdays. Not sure if that's right but it was something like that. I believe they only did it for a year or two, but it was nice to see both varsity teams back to back. I'm sure the coaches weren't to thrilled with it though and it went away. Wish there was a way to make it work!!!

I'm very concerned with my Lady Cats after the last three games they have played. You can't just show up and expect to win, you have to play every opponent like they are the best team in the state. I know it's sometimes hard to get up for games against certain teams, but if you don't...a game like tonight happens. We couldn't make a shot, we played uninspired and then when WO-S started putting baskets together we started pressing mentally and things got worse. We went from not making any shots to making bad passes as well. You can't wait til midway thru the first half to say, oh hey they came to play tonight we better wake up. We are also missing to many easy shots...I bet we missed 20 layups and little put backs tonight. Heck the first qtr alone, WO-S could barely get the ball down court. We stole the ball probably ten times early in the game by pressing, but couldn't make a thing after we got the steal. If we continue to play like this it will be a long year. Better wake up, Lady Cats!!! Also I must say this...WO-S has improved, and I give them credit tonight for fustrating our kids. They had a good game plan and it worked...but they also were making everything they threw up. They banked in a couple of three's tonight, but hey that's part of the game and we let it happen. I bet practice tomorrow in Orangefield is going to be a lot of fun!!! Also the officiating was horrible tonight, but it was bad both ways for the most part. Hard to watch a game when they basically let teams hack each other all night long.

HJHawks is dead on...after being in the Livingston tournament this year, I've come to appreciate what we have down here a little more. Thought I'd never make that statement!!!

Bleed, come see Silsbee's new gym floor, I'll think you'll like it. Did they just add the new floor this year? Anyone have a picture, I'd love to see it.

Guys it's been tough keeping up with this poll this year. For some reason it's been hard finding scores and keeping up with local teams this year. We have no clue about team records this year, as most publications in circulation and online have been limited in their upkeep of local girls basketball. Hardin Jefferson is on top because I don't think they lost a game since our last poll. I know Orangefield lost twice, Kountze lost once and so did Ozen and Central in tournament play. Not quite sure on Barbers Hill, but we do know they are coming off a good run in their own tournament. After that it's just sort through the rest and hope we're close to getting it right. If posters would start posting scores and records on this thread, we'll have a better idea of who should be where!!! Bobkat -
I believe we have the talent to compete, but we're not Mentally tough enough yet. Prime example...we play a solid Liberty Hill team tough in the EC tournament. why? we didn't know anything about them and we just went out and played. Of course coach Wrinkle knew about them and I'm sure they had some kind of scouting report on them, but the kids had never played them and some had probably never heard of them. Now take the HJ game for instance...we were down 20 points to them mentally before we ever took the court. That's HJ over there, we can't beat them. They might not have said that out loud, but they were thinking it. Hey we're not suppose to beat them...until they believe they can it will never happen. And it's not a cocky thing, it's a respect thing.

2008 All-Orange Leader Football Team
Bobkat replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
How in the world are these teams picked? Do they actually look @ stats or what? The only thing that really boggles my mind on these picks is 2nd team linebacker. And before any of you start bashing me, I'm not bashing the kid picked. He had nothing to do with these picks...but Zach Peevey was hurt all year and only played in like two games at linebacker for Orangefield and that was in a very limited roll in those few games he played. While Josh Juneau led the team in tackles by a large number and never came off the field all year. He even challenged the school record for most tackles this year and that was in 8 games. If he would have played those other two games he would have broke the record. I feel that this kid has been done wrong by not being on this team. He was also academic all-state and a kid that will finish in the top 2-3 of his class. If your going to put out a list like this, maybe the people putting out the list should do more research. I just don't get it... > -
* OF vs. Conroe Updates/Conroe Wins!*
Bobkat replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree coach, don't get me wrong. They didn't cost us the game, but it's like they were watching a different game. And there are still certain calls they made, I have no clue what they called. They would just blow their whistle and point in one direction, we would just all looked at each other. Score keeper must have known what was going on, they never once questioned the refs...it was weird to say the least. Also had one that liked to show off, he wanted everyone to know he was there. Loud and bad just makes them worse...I think we might be lucky to have what we have!!!
