  1. IT Seems like teams in this area look for moral victories against Wo-s. If they didn't get blown out then they feel good about themselves and other teams seem to think that that means that they can beat them. At Wo-s we don't care how much we win by or lose by. When we lost to Bc this year by three, we didn't say oh atleast we only lost by three. All we know is that we lost because everytime a Wo-s player step on that field, they expect to win. That's the difference between Wo-s and other teams in this area...they don't settle for moral victores...there is no such thing as far as we see it. And that's why they have been so successful for so long.
  2. You have a whole lot more to worry about when stopping Wo-s than they have in stopping Jasper. You will not be able to score many points against them. Your defense needs to focus on trying to keep Wo-s out of the endzone. That will be a bigger chore for you, than it will be for Wo-s D to stop your O. This is becoming comical with these teams week after week talking trash, just to make themselves look silly in the end. Everybody talks about Wo-s showing respect to other teams, but there aren't many who show respect to them and it shows with the garbage that we have to hear week after week.
  3. So your going to add some players from Kirbyville and Silsbee team to score 36 points against Wo-s? that's the only way you will score 36 points against this defense. You have played some weak teams, you won't score 14 points. If better teams that we played haven't even gotten 20 against us, what makes you think you will score 36...let's be realistic people. I can understand you saying you think your team will win, but score 36 points? lol
  4. Mustangs hit 21 straight 21-3A wins; beat Tigers, 17-6 Van Wade The Orange Leader WEST ORANGE — Sometimes you just have to grind one out. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs were able to do just that Friday night against the Silsbee Tigers at Dan R. Hooks to extend their District 21-3A winning streak to 21 games. The Mustangs ran 35 plays to Silsbee’s 10 in the second half and went on to defeat the Tigers 17-6 in a pivotal district battle. Mustangs senior tailback DePauldrick Garrett zipped through the Tiger defense for 137 yards on 25 tough carries and scored a touchdown. Junior quarterback Ortavious Hypolite had 102 yards on 17 carries and scored a TD and sophomore kicker James Haynes booted his first field goal of the season late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. WO-S (6-1, 4-0) totaled 281 yards of offense while the Mustangs’ “Chain Gang†defense held the Tigers (3-4, 2-2) to 169 yards, just 30 in the second half. “Our kids played hard-nosed football tonight against a tough Silsbee team,†said Mustangs head coach Dan Hooks. “Our running game hung in there and we controlled things up front, especially in the second half. When you get three, four and five yards a pop, you move the chains and we did that well.†The Mustangs matriculated the ball 68 yards in 11 hard-nosed plays to extend their 7-6 halftime edge to 14-6 on their first series of the second half. Hypolite bruised his way to 50 yards on six carries on the march that ate 4:39 off the clock. He had two big gains of 19 and 12 yards and capped it off with a tough 4-yard touchdown keeper up the middle. Haynes’ booted the extra-point and the Mustangs went up by eight with 7:21 left in the third. “I thought we made some nice adjustments at the half and the kids believe that they can get things done in the second half of games, they’ve done it all year long,†Hooks said. “Defensively, Silsbee just made one first down and had two three-and-outs. Coach (Cornel) Thompson did a great job slowing down those little screens that worked for Silsbee in the first half.†A 31-yard punt return gave the Mustangs the ball at the Tiger 37 with 4:43 left in the third. WO-S drove the ball to the Tiger 6 but Silsbee held when Hypolite’s pass fell off the hands of receiver Josh Gloston on fourth down from the 6 in the right side of the end zone with 11:52 remaining in the contest. The Mustangs grabbed the ball back at the 50 with 9:08 remaining. They ran 12 plays, with Depauldrick Garrett gaining 37 yards on eight carries. WO-S made it as far as the Tigers 5 before the Tigers defense stiffened yet again. Haynes entered to boot a 22-yard field goal and the Mustangs sophomore nailed it right down the middle to make it 17-6 with 2:59 left. “I’m so happy for that kid,†Hooks said. “I said, ‘James, just go in there and drill it and don’t be nervous.’ He hit the ball right down the middle and we loved the big smile on his face as he came off the field. That sealed the deal for us.†The Mustangs were certainly in business on their first possession of the game when they marched 70 yards in just eight plays to get on the scoreboard first. DePauldrick Garrett had a 32-yard swift run that got to the Tigers 15. Three plays later, DePauldrick Garrett busted through a hole off right tackle to score from 4 yards out. Haynes’ point-after attempt sailed through to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead with 4:42 remaining in the first period. Silsbee was able to zip from their own 38 all the way down to the Mustang 2 on the next series with the big play being a 34-yard strike from quarterback Jeremy Johnson to receiver Chris Rountree that got to the Mustangs 6. On third-and-goal from the 2, Johnson bobbled the next snap and was run down by a host of Mustangs back at the 14. On fourth down, Johnson tried to find Rountree in the back of the right side of the end zone but the Mustangs had him double covered and the ball fell incomplete. Silsbee threatened again early in the second period after Johnson connected with running back Chris Castle on a 42-yard screen pass and Castle eluded a couple of Mustangs would-be tackles to get to the WO-S 23. However, the Mustangs defense bowed up as Castle was stuffed on a fourth-and-2 carry at the Mustangs 14 with 4:34 left in the half. “Those two defensive stops went a long way for us,†Hooks said. “We never let Silsbee get much momentum.†The gate finally opened for Silsbee when tit took over at the Mustangs 32 with 3:26 left in the half. It took just two plays for the Tigers to hit pay dirt as Castle took a delayed draw and cut through the Mustangs defense on a 27-yard touchdown gallop to make it 7-6 with 2:40 in the half. The Tigers then tried to go up with a two-point conversion but the Mustangs stifled Castle at the 1 to maintain their lead going into the half. Silsbee outgained the Mustangs 139-117 in the first 24 minutes. Johnson completed 7-of-10 passes for 102 yards while Castle had five carries for 30 yards. Johnson finished the night 12-of-19 for 120 yards and was picked off by Dennis late in the fourth. Castle finished with 44 yards on seven carries as the Tigers managed just 48 yards on 21 carries. Hypolite completed f-of-7 passes for 21 yards for the Mustangs while DePauldrick Garrett had 61-yards on eight totes. The Mustangs will head to Jasper to face the Bulldogs next week in another pivota 21-3A encounter. Jasper (4-3. 3-1) defeated Hamshire-Fannett 37-16 to set up a big showdown. “Jasper lost to Kirbyville to start district but they’ve made some nice changes since then,†Hooks said. “They changed quartertbacks and they have a little one that can flat-out go. It’s always a tough place to go and win. We’re going to have our hands full but it’s a game that the kids are certainly looking forward too.†WO-S 17 Silsbee 6 WO-S7 0 7 3 — 17 Sils 0 6 0 0 — 6 Scoring summary WO-S — DePauldrick Garrett 4 run. 5. Wo-s decided to go to the ball control\play keep away offense because they didn't feel Silsbee could score much on them, which they couldn't. I hate ball control it makes for a boring game and you put too much pressure on your defense. We usually mix our plays up better than this, but seem like all our home games they decide to be conservative on offense...that needs to stop. Two dropped touchdowns for Wo-s...can't happen...concentrate on the ball guys. James Haynes did really good kicking the ball. Special teams need to do better the next game...can't keep giving teams a short field. I know the defense is good, but Silsbee scored their only touchdown because they were given a short field.
  6. I guess they call themselves running a ball control offense because they didn't feel Silsbee could score much on them which they couldn't. I hate when they call that type of game though...you put too much pressure on your defense.
  7. Lol you know this is wishful thinking by these Jasper people. I think they are smart enough to know that Jasper is going to be out of this game early. lol
  8. Went to Wo-s eighth grade game...It really wasn't as close as the score shows. There is a running back for Wo-s #20 Britton Lindsey that is awesome. This kid has moves and speed that I haven't seen on most of Wo-s running backs in the past. That's saying alot cause we all know that Wo-s has had some awesome running backs. He really amazed me with his speed and balance. Silsbee didn't have an answer for him. If he keeps improving, he can be one of the best running backs that Wo-s has ever had.
  9. Hey, how about Seth Thomas going to Texas and playing safety. We'll have three Wo-s players being a longhorn.
  10. Wo-s definately have better athletes than Png in my opinion which is my point. If you can't stop a team who isn't athletic and your suppose to be athletic, then how are you going to stop an athletic team? I know it's not good to be over confident and I don't think we have to worry about our guys being that...the Wo-s coaches won't allow them to be that. I don't care what kind of offense Png ran, I'm sure our coaches did their homework and if they saw that Silsbee couldn't stop the run, then what do you think their game plan will be. That's the great thing about Wo-s and the way they have been for some years now, they aren't one dementional. We can run on you or pass on you, we can beat you with the short pass because of our speed or we can beat you deep. Of course they can be off with their passing as we have seen this year, but that's why it's good that we're not one dementional. If one thing isn't going right on offense, we can go to several other things to beat you. I'm not trying to be disrespectful to Silsbee...I know they have a good team. I just feel if Wo-s goes into a game and play good football and not turn the ball over all night they can beat any team in this area. Most teams can't say that. Many can play a perfect mistake free game and still get blown out.
  11. Do you realize you guys say the same things with every team Wo-s plays, It''s like your scared to say yeah Wo-s is gonna blow this team out. I know anybody can win a game, but let's be realistic. Wo-s should blow Silsbee out. People are always saying when they say can this team stay close to Wo-s and it's always based on Wo-s being able to stop someone's offense...I will never worry about what their defense does. The fact that they haven't given up more than 15 points to any team this year should tell you that we don't have to worry about being able to stop Silsbee or many other teams. The real question is can Silsbee stop Wo-s offense. They have given up alot of points this year and if they can't stop teams like Png(who I don't feel have a better offense than Wo-s) They won't be able to stop us. We have finally started to use all of our weapons on offense...teams can't just key on Depauldrick so that makes us dangerous. I'm bold enough to say that I don't feel this game will be close at all.
  12. Until he does it against a team that actually has a defense he won't get any respect. Everybody looks good against BC.
  13. No one has scored 21 points on Wo-s defense and Silsbee won't be the first. Wo-s wins 30-7. I predicted the same score against Kirbyville and missed it by one point so I'm going with the same score.
  14. When would you ever be up on anybody 32-0 unless your playing a playstation game? Classless is coming on here downing a team for playing hard, I'm sorry they decided to have a practice session while they were out there.
  15. " It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that physically HJ simply does not match up with WOS. Anyone who has any clue about football could see what HJ's game plan was. Use every bit of the clock and keep the ball as long as possible to keep WOS offense off the field. The same tactic many pro teams use against he Colts and the Patriots. Bill Belichic could have been coaching and game planning for the Hawks and it wouldn't have changed the outcome.. Wow!! OKay if that was your coaches game plan then they all should be fired. How on earth did they think that they would be able to keep Wo-s defense( one of the best defenses in the state) on the field for a long time. Wo-s has gone against offenses 100 times better than Hj this year and they couldn't manage to stay on the field so how on earth did they think they would accomplish that? You would have been better off just passing the ball. You had a couple passes that work for big yardage, but yet you stop and was crazy enough to believe that you were going to just line up and run on Wo-s with that small offensive line that you spoke of? You keep quoting what goes around comes around, well we know Hj won't make Wo-s pay so I guess you have to hope some other team does so you can get some kind of moral victory. Why don't you go and lobby to the UIL to drop you down to 1A cause your people haven't shown the heart to play at this level. It needs to start with the coaches, stop crying over a game that you knew you was going to get whipped in anyway and try not to let it happen again against Kirbyville.
  16. Can you shut up already and quit crying like a baby. It was the first half, you need to score as much as possible before the half cause anything can happen in the second half of a game. Don't get mad at a team because they was superior and proved it...they did what they was suppose to do. Maybe your coaches should have thrown in the towel at halftime since they didn't have any more heart than the players did. I hate when people talk about running up the score. We had reserves in there and Hj still couldn't stop them...is it their fault that they was just brought up from Jv and would like to show what they can do? If you knew anything about football you would know when you are blowing out a team, you start to work on things for the next game and work on things that your not that strong in. You don't just kneel on the ball for two quarters because a team doesn't have the heart to fight until the end. So stop crying and being a soar loser...I see why teams sometimes have a losing season year after year cause they want to look at what another team did wrong instead of figuring out how to improve themselves. You best believe if we do get beaten, we will fight until the end and not cry because someone continue to score on us. Take your whipping like a man and move on to the next game and try and do better.
  17. Yeah, I saw their coach fussing, but I didn't know he was directing it at our coaches. What exactly did he want them to do? We ran the ball most of the time, it's not our fault that we got 20 yards a carry. It was obvious to me that Hj came out very intimidated. Their players was looking for the ground before our players even hit them and look like their best player took himself out the game early. It makes you think that their coach may have given them the impression during his speech before the game that it's no way they can win this game. You teach your team to play with heart until the end, not how to play not to lose. I felt sorry for their Qb, it looked like their offensive line stopped even trying to block for him...he ran for his life the whole night and couldn't avoid getting sacked. Keep your heads up HJ, just play with heart no matter what is happening on the field, you will earn respect from the other team by doing that. It was so bad that Wo-s put in a Qb they just moved up from the JV #28 Roderick Simmons(who is Depauldrick and Quintavious Garrett's little brother)and he scored a touchdown. Wo-s played an excellent game, but we really need to figure out how to fix our kicking game before the playoffs. We missed just about every extra point. That can't happen in the playoffs when we come up against better teams or we'll lose.
  18. Not on Varsity yet, but should be. For Wo-s WR Mark Roberts. He's a freshman that plays on the freshman and Jv. Team. Also plays defense and is the kicker. A big kid over 6'0, has great hands and can run. His dad was really fast when he played for Wo-s.
  19. Wo-s- Trey Franks and James Haynes both Sophs.
  20. How would that benefit Wo-s playing a lesser opponent? And before someone responds with "Kelly is good"...they are, but won't be able to hang with Wo-s on the field. Wo-s needs to keep playing good teams in a higher classification. I'd like to see Lamarque added back and or Nederland...I'd like to see an exciting game. We see enough teams at Kelly's level in district. This wasn't a shot at Kelly, but they wouldn't give us enough of a push to get us ready for district.
  21. Yeah, as usual this area doesn't get alot of respect statewide. We will just have to go out there and prove that we are better than they think.
  22. Everybody makes the comment we're going to get those boys from Stang country this year...The famous last words. I don't think Silsbee is as good as last year and Wo-s is better defensive and despite what people have been saying...they can score. I don't think it will be close at all.
  23. Good!! alot of teams will get hit hard. Many teams who never did much in football ever all of a sudden are powerhouses...hmm. Not saying everybody is doing it, but there are several teams that do.
  24. I by no means think we shouldn't attempt to pass the ball, but we definately don't have to go for the home run pass all the time. The shorter passes can be just as effective, which is what we have been doing. We have ran into problems when we have tried going for the long bomb down the field. I think you should try it every once in a while, but we can be more successful if we take what the defense gives us. The long passes will come in time. I think people think our offense is so far off talent wise because we don't score as quickly as we did last year, but we was working with a more experienced team last year. Give this team a little time, they will show that they can put up the points. I think if players concentrate a little more when the ball comes to them, more of the passes would be completed. Seems like we try to run before we catch the ball a lot of times.
  25. Our passing game have showed some improvement and will continue. We have already implimented the screen pass which they ate Kirbyville up with. That kept them off balanced and it will eventually open up the long pass because teams will be afraid of the screen. You let us have the screen and it's a foot race after that...you know we win those most of the time. I'm very impressed with this young team, by week ten, they will be a complete team.
