  1. Red letter day for me- you and I on common ground and Tobie thinking it was decent for "someone like me"
  2. She just stated in another thread that she will never complain or whine about the election.
  3. For the record, her name is Hillary rather than Hilliary. If you are unhappy with the system used to elect the President, use your influence to change things-perhaps "change we can believe in"
  4. Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, William McKinley, and George McGovern all filed for bankruptcy. If my fading memory is correct, all of these individuals were either Presidents or candidates for President. If the bankruptcy issue troubles you so much, I would find it ironic that you would not have been even more upset with the FACT that former Texas Governor and former TREASURY SECRETARY , John Connally, also filed for bankruptcy.
  5. I reiterate- Hard for me to understand anyone on the left that supports equity/fairness/consideration for all would not celebrate using the electoral college system. I will also offer that if the vote had been strictly a popular one, Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton would have likely altered their methods/tactics of their respective campaigns and the popular vote might have resultantly turned out different than it did . I would also guess that due to the very small difference in the popular vote results, a recount/validation effort would have taken place.
  6. The best thing about our system is that if we elect someone, and they don't live up to our expectations, the system can replace them. Happens consistently on both a local and national level. From my perspective, two main concerns are uppermost in most people’s minds when it comes to electing someone to represent them. My view is that those two concerns are social and economic. Both are very valid and both need to be addressed. In the past 8 years, this country has focused mainly on the social aspect and hasn't given much attention to the economic aspect. When the electorate decides that a change in direction is needed, it votes accordingly. To those of you who think the world is going to end because Trump is in office, I can identify with that because I had similar concerns when Mr. Obama was elected. Fortunately, it’s pretty hard for this country to be brought totally to its knees in a 2,4, or 8 year period. If Mr. Trump is as horrible as some of you think he is and if he does as much damage as you think he will, the voters will eliminate most of his advantages in two years during the mid- term elections and then, 2 years later, will replace him as well. My guess is that Mr. Trump will focus more on the economic aspect and less on the social aspect- that is an opposite approach to what his predecessor did. Is one right and one wrong? No- both are right and both are wrong. By that I mean that it was wrong for Mr. Obama to pursue his social agenda without consideration for the economy. If Mr. Trump pursues his economic agenda with little if any regard for the social issues, that too, will be a mistake. In both cases, the voters will make that decision. My personal feelings are that if this country becomes economically unviable, the advancement of the economy as well as the desired social changes both become impossible. ( you gotta have money to succeed in either or both). It would appear that the voters have decided to give our economic concerns priority. Is that permanent? No. Does that mean minorities are about to suddenly get mistreated? No. Does that mean that gays can no longer marry? No. Does it mean we will have transgender bathrooms in every public building by next fall? Probably not. If Mr. Trump does not handle things well, does that mean he will not get re-elected? Yes. One final thought- many consider the late 50’s and early 60s ( that would be the Eisenhower and Kennedy years) to have been particularly good times for this country. At that time, core government spending ( excluding defense) was around 6% to 7% of GDP. Today that figure is 17% to 18% of GDP. The bigger the government gets, the nastier the elections become because there is more to hold onto for those in power and more to fight against for those who want change. So I am suggesting to you that, regardless of who is in power, a bigger and ever growing government is a serious problem.
  7. 6% of the blacks who voted, voted for Romney against Obama. 8% of the blacks who voted, voted for Trump against Clinton. I await your spin attempt on this FACT.
  8. I find it comical that someone who adheres to one parties theory of economic and social "fairness" to all would have a problem with the electoral college and the theory behind it.
  9. She may not have won the popular vote ( if the dead "voters" are eliminated)
  10. The electorate determined who had the most baggage.
  11. Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton brought Mr. Trump into power.
  12. Not worried about power. Worried about having to provide so much free stuff . "You people" has been the forgotten segment of society and they just made a rather substantial statement. But don't worry Dove, there is really nothing wrong with advocating self responsibility, accountability, and terminating or minimizing the old " I am a victim" claims. What I really don't get is why the electorate this year is racist but the identical electorate wasn't in 2008 and 2012?
  13. The folks listed above are immune to indoctrination!
  14. Overt racism- how did Mr. Obama get elected and re-elected? Please show me PRECISELY where Mr. Trump SAID that he hadn't paid taxes in two decades> I want give you a small clue about business: they are operating with the express intent of making a profit as opposed to promising jobs and benefits to X number of people- Its sure your right to believe what you want about the wall, locking Hillary up, banning Muslims, yada yada yada. I felt the same way when I heard these words: I will build a 21st Century VA- My stimulus program will provide shovel ready jobs- I will have the most transparent administration in history- there is not one smidgen of corruption at the IRS- If you like your doctor/health care plan, you can keep them- My affordable care act will reduce the average health insurance premium annually by $2500- Need I go further?
  15. We have so many protected classes in this country. However, it appears that the one unprotected and forgotten sector ( the gun toting, bible clinging. t shirt clad, beer drinking Walmart shopper)made a statement in the election demanding that they no longer be ignored. I personally find it rewarding to know that their vote counts every bit as much as the vote of the "enlightened". Looks like Lone Star beer "Trumps" a Starbucks latte.
  16. I can't watch the station that he is on but I was wondering if anyone has heard him mention a chill running down his leg?
  17. At least you have the guts/integrity to speak honestly. I salute you for that.
  18. But 690 as a percentage of the market at that time is larger than 750 is for todays valuation.
  19. We have to be careful here. We certainly don't want to "offend" anyone.
  20. Agree on the patience. It ain't over till the fat lady sings.
  21. I think there may be a number of humble pies in the oven
  22. There will be a certain degree of arrogance, condescension, and smugness removed from some of the "enlightened"?
