EOC- in your opinion, is Fox biased? Are NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, and Al Jazeera biased?
-
The debt can/does go up based upon the interest that is compounding daily upon it. Interest rates are lower than you(Big GIrl) have seen in your entire adult life. When those rates begin to climb ( and that is getting closer) the interest on the debt will rise and hasten its ascent unless something is done to reduce it.

Yes, Benghazi is a terrible topic but " Is the sky blue?" is a truly insightful one.

I believe it is your responsibility to prove they lie rather than my responsibility to prove they tell the truth. ( innocent until proven guilty thing) I am not nearly as interested in "slickness" as you are. Let proceed with the "fox accusation". If you call me a racist or a homophobe, is it up to you to prove such or is it up to me to prove I am not? Would it not be improper for me to call you a communist and then ask you to prove you aren't?
-
We were discussing Fox and their credibility. And I suggested to you that, when compared to other networks, I feel they are credible. Asked you to tell me why what NBC and CBS have done is not worse than whatever you think Fox has done. And you still haven't documented anything Fox has done. You simply lobbed an insult at them which is quite similar to lobbing the racist accusation without proof. You want discussions, but you want them only if the play out like you intend for them to do. That wont happen very often.
-
I believe you overstate your case against Fox. Sorry, but not being in the tank for Obama ( like every other network and the vast majority of newspapers) does not qualify an organization as trash. If Fox was lying as you, Big Girl, and a few others contend, they would be in court all of the time defending themselves. If there was the slightest chance of that taking place, the left would have already done so. If you don't mind, give me two or three examples of blatant lies that Fox has offered from their newspeople ( opinions don't count) in regard to Obama or his administration. After that, I would also be interested in knowing how you arrived at the conclusion that Al Jazeera is a reliable news source. If my memory is correct, they were the ones who featured "Baghdad Bob" shortly after we had invaded Iraq saying " There are no American infidels in Baghdad, never" and " we have them surrounded in their tanks" Oops. forgot to add this inquiry. Tell me what you think of NBC when they edited the George Zimmerman tape with the OBVIOUS attempt to fan the flames of racial hatred and sway public opinion in the Trayvon Martin Case. Go back a little further and tell me what you thought of the Dan Rather escapade regarding George Bush some years ago where forged documents unauthenticated /forged documents were used to present a case. After all of that, I would like to know why Fox is somehow "lesser" than NBC or CBS.
-
Would this be the time for me to ask you if you sincerely believe you get more reliable news reports from Al Jazeera than Fox? How does one shift a debate in their favor? I was thinking that you say what you want to say and then I say what I want to say and then let the chips fall where they may. And, by the way, there is no way that you can describe me as intelligent and/or crafty because, long ago, you defined me as an unenlightened commoner. It is your responsibility to be tolerant of those with lesser intellect and celebrate the "diversity" of varying mental capabilities on this board.( yours being at the top, of course)
-
Few things are more transparent than when someone gets on this board and, under the guise of neutrality , attempts to portray himself/herself as "above the fray" because he or she is without predilection and therefore, is more "reasoned" and "objective"( and don't forget "enlightened") We all have our leanings/tendencies and there is little sense in trying to portray yourself as something you are not. I was particularly amused when EOC spoke of how "dedicated Fox viewers" describe the opposition as communist, socialist, and fascist. I wish to respond to that by asking who is doing the talking when we substitute those descriptive terms with racist, homophobe, and compassionless?

Dove- If I am understanding you correctly, you are suggesting that it is likely for an innocent person to accept probation ( in spite of being innocent) because the potential is there for a 20 year jail term? -
Big girl- please LOSE the education level query- so Vapid
-
PamFAm- Bush did NOT cause the recession.( it's known as the cyclicality of an economy) If he did, then Clinton caused the one that Bush came in to deal with when he won his first term. Would you like to compare the Bush "recovery" to the Obama "recovery"?
-
Tobie There are a lot of companies operating today and a lot of people employed because of Bain Capital, so abandon that lefty myth that is about as accurate as blaming Bush for the sub prime mortgage collapse which led to the most recent recession. If you want to keep discussing what Mr. Romney and Bain capital accomplished, I am going to quickly show how ignorant that myth is.

Big Girl- What do you think of this analogy?

I don't care what is in the title. The oil companies do NOT get subsidies. Once again, do you want apple to pay more taxes? They make considerably more than the oil companies. Some day, maybe, you will understand that profits are not evil but rather the producer of jobs. Would you rather have to bail them out periodically by holding down their ability to earn and reinvest monies? -

The left believes it, and only it, should decide who gets deductions and in what amounts because, for some reason, they sincerely believe they know more about these things even though some of their crowd can't even preserve emails. -
Just watched a segment on Sixty Minutes about this program called Year Up. It is a highly successful program intended solely for the disadvantaged that gives them an opportunity they might otherwise not get. All of you lefties who believe that the right consists of greedy, uncaring, rich people need to take notice and understand what this program is achieving WITHOUT GOVERNMENT assistance and WITHOUT TAXPAYER DOLLARS. And the majority of the participants are the Wall Streeters that you have been taught to hate ( even though you really don't know why, you have just accepted that they are evil) THis program has high standards and demands accountability. I heard one instructor say that if you are late to class because the bus was late, that simply isn't acceptable. Young people who come out of this program are producing at a very high rate and have become productive citizens without throwing endless taxpayer dollars at it. Donations are coming in from all over the country and you need to know that those evil Republicans are heavily involved in the donations and even more heavily involved in the education process. This is PROOF POSITIVE that there are often times better ways to solve problems that having a bloated, inefficient, and unaccountable government handling the process and it is damn sure more productive than Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. Big Girl, what would you do if someone you knew took advantage of this program and became a Wall Street success story? Would you cheer them for what they have accomplished or would you demonize them for becoming a productive member of the "establishment"?

Sorry, but they are not subsidies. The complaint is about legal write offs/deductions. And the left cant stand it when somebody is doing well and it cant get its hands on more of the profits. If you will look a little further into this, you will find that the profit margins aren't nearly what you are lead to believe. Once again, instead of just looking at the profit number, you have to look at what kind of investment it took to generate that profit. Exxon profits are less than 10% of its revenues. Apple's profits are in the 25% to 30% range when compared to its revenues. Do you want to take some tax benefits away from Apple also? And why? Surely you are not naive enough to believe that that those monies, if put in the hands of the federal government, would be more productively deployed? Heck, they cant even keep track of their own emails. -
Many thanks- I wonder if someone would be willing to quantify the difference between a big majority and a small one?

You simply have swallowed the party line without examining the facts and coming to your own conclusion. First- A subsidy is a money provided by the government for the purpose of promoting something such as solar energy. Therefore, the oil companies do not receive subsidies. Additionally, the oil companies have available to them the same tax deductions that every other corporation in the country has access to. When you understand the difference between a subsidy and a tax deduction, you will be better equipped to then cry and bemoan the deductions that the oil companies take. All are lawful and were passed by the government. Once again, you should be very pleased that the oil companies make significant profits. Of course, what you don't consider is that they also take significant risks but that doesn't matter to you. When British Petroleum caused all that damage in the gulf last year, they were able to be financially responsible for everything without needing a government/taxpayer funded bailout and a bankruptcy. Thus they are still employing thousands of people who pay a lot of taxes based on their income. If they had not earned significant profits over the years, they would have gone under, thousands of people would have been added to the unemployment roles, and government tax revenues would have declined due to the lost jobs and the taxes paid by British Petroleum. If and when that would have taken place, the government would need more money and would cry out (with your full support) that some other industry and some group of individuals weren't paying their fair share- It never ends -

Then how do you know they are "full of crap"? Watch the video- it is merely a collection of clips from Mr. Obama speaking on various occasions. -
Yeah, right. That's why you responded when Westend said "don't you see you are being baited". He obviously wasn't talking to you.

And who is the government? What made the government provide these subsidies? -
I would say that Christian values, while still around to some extent, are vastly diminished. Society looks askance at success and finds nobility in those without success and convinces those that they are victims of an unfair society thus causing the country to take "compassion" to an extreme.

I have a great idea. Lets lower the corporate tax rate so that we do not have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. Maybe, just maybe, the corporations would be less likely to hold so much money overseas.
