I borrowed money from a local bank in order to pay for my college. That loan had a federal guarantee. I paid the money back to the bank as agreed. One could call that guarantee a form of government assistance. Since the day I borrowed that money, I have never had any type of federal assistance and have paid a fairly large sum of taxes over the years. Does it make me hypocritical if I contend there is a lot of waste and abuse in our welfare system?

Then you believe that Mr. Carson is wrong in his desire to create a system that encourages people to move forward and become self reliant? Is the old saying" give a man a fish and you feed him for a day/ teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" not good advice that ought to be heeded?

PamFAm Google Ben Carson on the View and maybe you will understand what he is saying. Of course, now that you have made your "declaration" of what you "believe" he is, there is no way you will backpeddle and admit the guy is a reasonable individual trying to solve one of todays largest problems. I find it odd that so many of you folks want to declare him a hypocrite or a racist for simply saying that the system needs to change so as to encourage people to want to escape their existing dilemma. But everyone is so afraid that some "gravy" might be removed or made more difficult to acquire that declaring him an uncle tom or a sellout is the easier thing to do.

Thus proving your compassion

Dove, perhaps you and Bullets should have me banned. I know that my world, at that point, will end. Only problem is you will have to come up with someone else to "discriminate" against.
-
Dove, do you still feel this is all confined to just a couple of bad apples?

A democrat in the Senate stated that they needed more time to digest the three page bill . If you accept that, I think you are approaching this similarly to when you first suggested to me that the IRS problem was just a couple of rogue agents. You and I both know ( or maybe you really don't) that the Senate is more than capable of dealing with a three page bill very quickly, particularly when the house passed it by an overwhelming margin. Hmmm, I wonder, just wonder, if there are political motivations behind not dealing with the bill? Furthermore, I am not a fan of the Senate getting involved in private business operations anyway. They have proven and demonstrated they are quite incompetent when it comes to business. Once again, I suggest to you that those that signed their name to the name change letter are simply showboating because mid terms are close at hand. By the way, if you were strict about subject change on this board ( and of course, consistent) you would have to have banned the great majority of participants.

The answer for you, seemingly the self appointed topic police, is very little. My point was that I felt it was more important to get the VA situation righted than it is to change the name of a professional football team. Am I wrong ?

Do you achieved what it wanted to achieve or does more need to be done in the way of civil rights?
-
Yes, he has really done a great job for us, hasnt he? Aren't you glad this is also the most transparent administration in history?

BIll Gates and Steve Jobs. No college degrees. Much more success than most. Dont get too hung up on college degrees. Another problem with the current administration is that most of those running come from Academia rather than the real world. When you get a chance, google LONG TERM CAPITAL MANAGEMENT. It was operated largely by several Nobel Laureates and was full of PHDs. It went bankrupt and was very close to causing a panic such as we had in 2008 for which you love to credit to George Bush.(even though nothing could be further from the truth). It took a consortium of many major Wall Street investment bankds to fund the multibillion-dollar bailout.

How does one prove there was no "intent" to harm anyone?
-
I guess it was the government who got the Medical Degree and not Dr. Carson.
-
Does your life experience entitle you to something to which others should not be entitled? And what on earth do your life experiences have to do with the Senate not dealing with a 3 page bill that would make it easier to fire incompetent VA employees?

Of course you dont want him to succeed. He believes that ultimately, one lifts HIMSELF/HERSELF out of adversity and dedicates his/her time and efforts to bettering himself/herself rather than lamenting about his/her situation and how unfair it is. Nobody is saying that the poor shouldnt be helped. What they are saying is that we need a system that encourages the poor to get themselves out of their circumstances rather than making them believe there is a certain "nobility" to their circumstances and there is no limit to the amount of time that they can remain on govt assistance.

Tea Party Official, Two Others Arrested In Probe

At around 06:22, a 19-ton yellow Mercedes-Benz stake-bed truck drove to the Beirut International Airport (BIA), where the U.S. 24th Marine Amphibious Unit (MAU) was deployed. The 1st Battalion 8th Marines (BLT), commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Larry Gerlach, was a subordinate element of the 24th MAU. The truck was not the water truck they had been expecting. Instead, it was a hijacked truck carrying explosives. The driver turned his truck onto an access road leading to the compound. He drove into and circled the parking lot, and then he accelerated to crash through a 5-foot-high barrier of concertina wire separating the parking lot from the building. The wire popped "like somebody walking on twigs."[11] The truck then passed between two sentry posts and through an open vehicle gate in the perimeter chain-link fence, crashed through a guard shack in front of the building and smashed into the lobby of the building serving as the barracks for the 1st Battalion 8th Marines (BLT). The sentries at the gate were operating under rules of engagement, which made it very difficult to respond quickly to the truck. Sentries were ordered to keep their weapons at condition four (no magazine inserted and no rounds in the chamber). Only one sentry, LCpl Eddie DiFranco, was able to load and chamber a round. However, by that time the truck was already crashing into the building's entryway.[ -

Big Girl, if your assertion is correct, how does one correct that?

Perhaps it didn't take over 18 months to find the answers on Beirut. Although I haven't researched it, I would be willing to bet we knew exactly where the President was and what he was doing when Beirut occurred. Furthermore, I would guess that those in power at the time did not try to blame the incident on a video, which is the most pathetic excuse (and you have stated you accept that excuse) ever offered for something of this magnitude. Wondering how you are so conversant with Beirut since it happened when you were a small child? And if the US administration did do something wrong during Beirut, does that make what happened in Benghazi acceptable? -
Dove has been strangely quiet about RC police work since Mr. Smith made his comments.

I was thinking that breaking into someones home, regardless of intent, is a big no-no and deserves a punishment sufficient to prevent an instant replay. But that's just me. I know how important it is to show compassion for those folks.
-
Pamfam- Do you know of home invasion circumstances where someone simply wanted to break into a home and not steal anything or hurt anyone?

The Truth About The Tyranny of Political Correctness

Big Girl- for those of us who don't understand Marxism adequately, please elucidate. After that, let me know which countries have successfully employed it from an economic standpoint. -
I think it is amazing that 50 senators are involved in this movement but they need "more time" to analyze a 3 page bill that would make it easier to fire incompetent VA employees
