  1. But Westend, doesn't the Muslim faith frown upon gay marriage and promotes unequal treatment of women?  Isnt that the very "bigotry" that you wont tolerate?
  2. Sounds reasonable.  However, you might find differences when defining "treat them as a lesser person".   Do you condemn the Muslim faith for its beliefs and activities?
  3. And I am suggesting to you that if a person was raised in a religion where homosexuality was not looked upon favorably, it might very well be a stretch to "label" that person as a bigot.  If our society comes to the conclusion ( sooner or later) that pedophilia is an "illness" rather than something abnormal, will those who oppose peophilia be considered bigots?
  4. If I am understanding you correctly, then you only tolerate those that agree with you?  If someone has grown up under religious beliefs that include not endorsing homosexuality, you consider that bigotry?   I am just wondering if the left is not quite as objective and broad minded as it so proudly claims?
  5. Translation:  Big Girl mind is smarter than the collective mind of a jury
  6. Westend and Bullets- Since the both of you are lefties (at least socially) shouldnt the both of you be more "tolerant" of those who do not believe that homosexuality is acceptable?
  7. Beaten within an inch, a foot, or a mile matters not.  If you are being beaten, you are going to take whatever means necessary to terminate said beating.  You are not going to lie there and think to yourself," well since there is little chance this will kill me, I will continue to accept it"
  8. Greece is a great example of people who THOUGHT they were voting for their own interests
  9. The other "investigations" have been really productive.  I am sure this one will be equally so.  duh
  10. How did the response time compare to the Michael Sam congratulations?
  11. I am shocked- who would have guessed-  I will guarantee you one thing- The President is going to be outraged and will conduct a complete investigation to get to the bottom of this
  12. How so?  I am simply stating that if someone is likely involved in a criminal activity, I dont feel compelled to address them with the formal designation that they were given prior to becoming "of questionable character".  Are you telling me that if Jack Kevorkian was talking to me and you were in the room, you would be offended if I didnt call him "dr." Kevorkian?  I see nothing contradictory about insisting that someone who academically earned a designation be required to act responsibly subsequently  in order to be addressed with it.
  13.     Teachers or coaches I didnt like personally, of course I still called them Dr. or coach.  But, then again, none of them were involved in the likes of what I previously mentioned.  I still believe that one is entitled to be called by that name as long as they are conducting themselves in a manner that the teachings of their specialty suggested.
  14. I guess your point is, it was ok for Trayvon Martin to take measures to protect himself but it wasnt for George Zimmerman?  How is  it that the "fleet footed" Zimmerman managed to catch lead foot Martin in what you allege was a chase?  Its also worth noting that you want to use evidence in some circumstances but prefer speculation in others.
  15. So you dont believe that if someone has their head banged against the curb repeatedly that one of those bangings will eventually kill him?  And, of course, if he was beaten "only" to within a foot of his life instead of an inch", does that change anything?
  16.     Yes, and like all of the other scandals, they will have an investigation and "get to the bottom of this"
  17. I am not inclined to call Jack Kevorkian by the name Dr.  Kevorkian or Conrad Murray by the name Dr. Murray.   Seems like the educational process is one part of earning that designation but that comporting with what you have learned is another component that should be considered when addressing someone as Doctor.
  18.  I was following the guy in MY neighborhood and you still didnt answer my question.  If I had gotten out of my car, would that act justify him beating me to within an inch of my life?   By the way, the "running away theory" simply wont wash.  If he wanted to run away, a 17 year old kid has absolutely no problem in escaping the "speed" of an overweight older guy.  ( please note that I did not choose to post this response 3 separate times)
  19. Sorry, but if it is not continuous, one still does not "know" what was edited.
  20. Come on Smitty, you know how vitally important it is to never say or do anything that might upset anyone of the Muslim faith.  Besides, the NBA draft is upcoming and someone needs to watch if any special congratulations are in order.
  21. Late yesterday afternoon, I saw a man in my driveway in a golf cart ( I was just arriving home)  He turned around and left but I was curious what he was up to.( Particularly because several neighbors had recently had possessions stolen)  So I followed him in my car for about six blocks to see if he was going to stay in the neighborhood or was headed somewhere else.  If I had stopped my car and gotten out of it, would that have entitled that individual to beat my head into the cement because he felt "endangered"?
  22. IT would appear that many things have been "doctored" over the years by a number of official as well as unofficial doctors.
  23. I guess you are talking about the 5.7% average unemployment during his term?
  24. NOt only did we lose 2 elections, we are in the process of losing our country .
  25. Pamfam- If Chicago has been "a gangster" since the beginning of time way back to prohibition, why haven't the stricter gun laws made things better?
