They are making a decision based on an interview and past records. I mean that coach has a high winning percentage. Does that mean he/she is a good coach. I don't think so, not in all cases. Maybe they just had talent. Its a guessing game 50/50 chance. Unless you have been to a practice/game and watched the coach work the kids you really don't know what you are getting. IMO more research needs to done when hiring a coach. If that means driving 300 miles then drive 300 miles. Even if you find the right guy/lady, Orangefield and Hamphire Fannett will never be able to comete (boy side) on a regular bases as long as we are in this district. Can we compete? Yes we can but not year end and year out unless both communities start growing at a rapid pace. I hate to say that but it is true. I would rather Orangefield not grow, Small communities are special, close knit.
I thought Silsbee and Sour Lake were small communities?
They don't come much smaller than Sour Lake.
I still think HF can beat  HJ Tuesday night!!!! Coach Richards can beat yall Stevie.
You won't find me arguing the point.  I would only ask that, if the HF victory happens on Tuesday, that you not treat me in a condescending manner.

I still think to this day if they woudl have made atleast 5 more free throws they would have been playing for a state championship that year. IMO free throws are as easy as you want them to be, I've seen players just staright up panic when they get the free throw line. Then I've seen other players get up there like its nothing and sink the biggest two shots of the season....its all about muscle memory
I agree with everything you say.  However, sometimes, a fluke comes along.  Ask LeBron how he felt yesterday when he had two shots to tie the game with the Celtics in the last 10 seconds.  Sometimes the mental aspect influences the muscle memory.

Here is the reason, I have a lot of friends from HF that I met through the years in Little Dribblers and believe me the rivalry was just as intense as it was 30 years ago.(Orangefield) That being said, while the girls team have had some success just not the succes they should have. Here is an example, the 2007 class when they were 9 & 10 won nationals in Little Dribblers. They had some talent but when they got to high school they never made the playoffs. Still scratching my head on that one. The 2008 class beat us in Little Dribblers and in Junior High. Never beat us in high school. Still scratching my head. I do realize that you cannot compare Little dribblers and Junior High to high school. Things change when you get to high school. Some kids mature in junior high most do not until they get to high school. Some kids quit, some lose interest, some fall in love and then they start driving. There is a lot of things that changes for a kid once he/she goes to high school. Wish I had the answer but I don't.
Maybe the kids at the other schools didnt have to spend as much time lifting weights and were thus able to improve their skills as well as understanding how the game is played?
 6. Dove, I sense a little disrespect here.  Once your unambiguous eloquence is displayed on the Lazeek show, there is no doubt in my mind that all of the Dove doubters will hold you in the highest esteem. I have a feeling that we will be witnessing history in the making.  Both you and Lazeek will probably be hearing from ESPN shortly after the broadcast.  I would respectfully like to offer my services to act on your behalf as an agent.  Mammagot is bound to approve.
 7. Am so looking forward to Sour Lakes home version of the Mike and Mike show.
 8.
I harped on my boys forever about form and learning to shoot them right. Now you never see them shoot them the same way twice.
I see a lot of the younger kids much more concerned with the "pre shot routine" than the shot itself.
 9.
Should be about winning, scoring isn't the whole deal.  Its like I ask my kids after the game, how many rebounds, to's, assists?  Too many kids/parents today worried about the name in the paper for scoring.  Just saying going at it all wrong.  I agree with the frustration of not being able to do what you need to do to get the program better, but basing everything around one kid scoring the most points is not right.  Would you be able to quote how many pts his man had while he was in, how many to's etc? Not defending the coach just can't always be about pts.  If you lost by 40 doesn't matter if he had 12 or 20, was not a game changer.
I interpret their comments in a different way.  I dont think they care who the leading scorer is.  I think they dont understand the logic of benching the most productive offensive player in that particular game for 75% of the time.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Why is that? Not enough attention at home? Work? Get a hobby! Ready a book. Drive into Beaumont and watch a movie. Make you life fun. It seems your a bored old man like your boy Tigervoice! 14.
Okay, I think we can take HJ now after that butt kicking ;D
No doubt about it.  The only thing you need to do to insure the victory will be to have the players lift that morning as well as that afternoon before the game.  It will be an extra good night for you because you will not only witness the "butt kicking" but you will be able to discuss it as Lazeeks half time radio guest.  I can't wait.  Last night, I made a substantial monetary offer to school representatives for the priviledge of constructing a large sign that says "HJ Welcomes Da Dove" but was politely turned down.
 15.

BTW, on Gus's play where he tipped the ball out of WOS player's hands, then he went out of bounds but established himself inbounds before he took the ball and dribbled upcourt..... the WOS coach seemed to have a problem with that.  Isn't that legal, provided Gus came back inbounds completely before touching the ball again (he was the first player touching it after he came back in bounds).
Does anyone know if this ruling was correct?  I thought it was, but several experts in the stands claimed that the man out of bounds can not be the first to touch the ball.
I have been told by a most reliable source that while a football player cannot do so, a basketball player only need re-establish himself with both feet back inbounds and can then access the ball.  The referee made the correct call.

I've known some great players who were supposely destined to go to the NBA. And I've known a small few who made it and no one ever expected them to go that far. Some of these high school kids are good at the level they are playing and will not advance much farther. The thing with 3-A schools is that the level of competition isn't all what it is talked up to be ( I'll probably get some flack). Jarvis is going to have to play against some top quality players or some good exposure camps during the summer months to get any notice from the big D-1 schools. Which is where most of these kids are trying to play ball
I think Aaron Rodgers of the Superbowl Champ Packers is a prime example of someone who DID NOT play with the 'big boys" and still became a great quarterback despite being undersized, despite playing at Butte Community College for two years because nobody "knew about him'.  Doesnt look as though being from a relatively small Oregon HIgh School hurt his chances much even though he didnt compete with the big boys from LA or Chicago or New York.  Until Mr. Rodgers transferred to Cal for his last two years, he didnt have the benefit of "the better competition".  I therefore assume, that there are some other qualities possessed by Mr. Rogers that enabled him to get where he is right now.
Basketball is a unique sport. You gotta be able to do 3,4,5 things all at one time. But football, well thats another story ;D
Believe me, I am NOT a football fan, but am pretty sure that Mr. Rogers has as many things to do at once as any point guard does.
yep he does NOW!
Yes, he does- despite his "no way" background

Don't remember about the boys. I believe they also lost to Navasota but don't think it was in OT. I know the boys beat Coldspring in bi-district. My point is Orangefield boys basketball program has gotten better but they are not close to the level hardin jefferson is.
I seem to recall coming back from a game up the country and dropping off to see the last quarter of the OF - Navasota game.  I remember being surprised at how close it was.  It was like I was wondering if I was watching the same Orangefield team that we played in district. I assume you are talking football?  I heard that, back then, seventh graders would repeat the grade for the sole purpose of enhancing football team performance in high school.  Any truth to that? P.S.  And it sure wasn't the same Orangefield team that I grew up hating in the early 80's!  ;)
Peveto Nation was alive & well in the late 70's to early 80's. They had unbelieveably tough teams in those years with Coach Peveto @ the helm.
IF HF cut down on errors, control the boards on both ends, hustle on defense, intelligent substitutions, push the ball up the floor  instead of walking into their press; they have a good chance of making a good statement tonight.
And make a decent percentage of attempted shots?

The kid plays behind two 6'5" seniors, so he only gets to log about 12 minutes/game. However, he dropped 15 and grabbed 12 boards against Livingston Wednesday night. He's been solid all season and even started a few games when Fourney was out.
For sure got to consider him.  PLays extremely well for his age.
