HJ put themselves in great position to beat them, not once but twice. I'm not talking about Nederland playing a garbage game against PNG and the Indians having a flukey shot at beating the dawgs, i'm talking about HJ playing as well or better than the tigers for 3 quarters TWICE. Now, i've already stated that Silsbee is the better team, but HJ has a decent shot of beating them any time they play, not "no shot". Nederland has "no shot" at advancing to state. Bridge City has "no shot" at making the playoffs. HJ could beat Silsbee, and it wouldn't take a whole lot of breaks to do it. That is merely the point i was trying to make. I do like the comment "I didn't want to say anything negative until after the game until i could see what the score ended up being", however. You'd think since you "knew HJ had no shot of beating Silsbee", you would've made your bold prediction before the games, rather than after they occured.
Plenty of others knew what I thought about this match-up, and I promised Ole Nashy that I wouldnt say anything else about Hj until the game was finished ;) I was chomping at the bit to get back on this topic! ;D ;D
All I can do is hope the topic shows up again sometime soon
Always next year ;)
So who advances further in the playoffs this year - HJ or Nederland?
I think Nederland goes as far as Yates, to be honest.. Ned can match-up and play basketball with G-Ball or LaMarque since one team (LaMarque) has one superstar scorer and shooters around him (box&1 Lewis and try your best to win that way), and the other (G-ball) with two dominating 6-5 guys that can spread the floor(Kelvin on Evans then Forney on Pettaway).. AND about HJ, I dont see them getting by Cleveland or they might slip up before that and lose.. They need to have the 3-pointers dropping to win deeper in the playoffs
Translation: Nederland will advance deeply in playoffs and HJ "probably wont" -

CLASH OF THE TITANS II Silsbee at HJ
stevenash replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
"The Clash of The Titans" seems to have been reduced to a thread more concerned about the fans not in the stands. What about the game. Who was to blame? It seems HJ messed up and Silsbee won the CUP!
. With Silsbee winning both games it's painfully obvious to me that they r the better team and it was not a matter of who messed up. Silsbee won the games because they are better and there is not much hj could have done from a strategy standpoint. U r free to continue your celebration. -
CLASH OF THE TITANS II Silsbee at HJ
stevenash replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I know scheduling difficulties would make it next to impossible. But it would be fun if a doubleheader could be played when HJ-Silsbee played. Maybe another good rivalry such as PNG-Nederland or Kountze-East Chambers and have it played at Lamar or Ford Park. -

If my memory is correct, these same type of comments were being expressed/espoused by the enlightened last year. Cleveland had too much talent, too much depth, and too much athleticism. In the end, though, HJ had too many points. -

I am not speaking of running, shooting, dribbling, passing, jumping, etc. I refer to his ability/willingness to adapt to the system that his school/coaches prescribe. I consider that a serious ingredient in the talent/ability appraisals. He probably isnt the fastest guy, probably isn't a fantastic one on one player(not yet) and may not jump the highest. At the same time, I believe he has a very high basketball intellect(fully grasps the team concept) and is one of a few who believes that if he "plays within himself" it may not be as exciting to watch to some, but it will help him to, over time, become a very special player. The great majority of his on court decisions are very good and he has very few turnovers. I just happen to believe there is a lot more to this than ones ability to "shake and bake" and "look" impressive when you play. Few appreciate his ability to get his hands on numerous passes by the opposition because it doesnt show up in the stats. His attitude and his desire to improve give him an edge over a lot of players. Ray Allen has NO individual moves and isn't going to beat ANY of his defenders one on one. At the same time, I can't count how many games he has won for the Celtics by adapting to their system and applying his strengths to situations prescribed by the coaches. Allen Iverson had all kinds of "great moves" and drew many Oohs and Ahhs but never won a championship and got traded numerous times. I think Mr. Bosha is on a very good path and believe there are plenty of rewards for same in the future. Good luck to him.
Such a politician. :D
Just trying to emulate a guy I know/admire who will be involved in the 2012 State Championships. -

I get the distinct impression that you are suggesting that statistics don't always tell the whole story and perhaps sometimes a judgement call is necessary?

What would I think? His turnovers just about negate his assists and ppg
I was only curious because they belong to Mr. Day
Sorry guys, Day plays in the toughest district in Texas as a Freshman. Bad comparison. He palys against some of the best players. Big-ggggg Difference.
The toughest district? How would one confirm such an assertion? You are so worried about Bosha, throw out stats for your boys then we can talk about Bosha. There will always be someone better than someone else. And for the record, he has played against players all over Texas. Before the season started he was ranked #52 (based on his 8th grade stats). I'm sure by now that number has gone down. Who cares who the best freshman is anywhere? He just goes out and plays he game without comparing himself to others. Either you like him, or you don't. Either you like his game, or you don't. If you like him fine and if you don't, hey that's fine too. Trust we are not losing sleep in the Bosha household. As a matter of fact he will be traveling to Pennsylvania this summer to play with some of the best in the nation! Dang! The kid is 14. Back off!!! CONCENTRATE ON YOURS, THEN MAYBE WE CAN DISCUSS MINE.
I'm not saying anything about your son. My point is this: It don't matter wgat
Can anyone tell me why Dove is getting picked on with this thread? He hasn't said anything bad about Bosha (at least not on these forums) He's getting chastised for giving his opinion on a thread that asks for peoples opinions on whether Bosha is the best Freshman. Now, I disagree with Dove on........ well, nearly everything. But that doesn't mean I need to jump him for disagreeing.
