1. "Thats not the only thing that will be self perpetuating. Can't leave out the 1's who sincerely believe they don't have to work hard or earn anything because of "Who they are and Who they know." That too is also sort of bad because their offspring are more likely to embrace those same thoughts and values of their parents. "   THIS IS THOUGHTFUL QUOTE FROM SCALABRINE. I couldnt agree more with you Betrayed, I mean Swag,I mean Scalabrine.  You are absolutely right.  Those that try to "make it" based upon who they know or who they are will ultimately pay the price by not succeeding.  After they have failed, they will then try to suggest that somebody else was their downfall when, all along, it was their own fault. (But of course, those same type of "failers"  will not be smart enough to come to that conclusion)  A few of them will become disgruntled and resort to panic type efforts such as mounting an internet campaign to discredit successful people with whom they have personal issues.  Heck, some will try to write articles about how improper it is to coach your own kid in football, etc. etc.  Its an effort to elevate oneself by trying to drag down others - same principle though, not making an effort where it will get results.  I don't know a lot but I know for sure that those efforts are HIGHLY counterproductive and ultimately come home to roost near the perpetrator who, as always, just can't understand why he is getting "mistreated" or "not sufficiently respected"  The other difficult part in all of this is to define what "working hard" means.  To some, it means your efforts in basketball.  To others, its a broader approach that encompasses most everything in life.  For those that chose the latter, it can really come in handy if you don't make it to the NBA.  And they will generally do quite well when challenged intellectually by the guy who "just knew" he was the next Michael Jordan but whose success was ruined by somebody else.  I think even Michael JOrdan found out that when it comes to baseball, it ultimately didnt matter who he was or who he knew.
Dove_ i was speaking of elementary school kids.  Have personally witnessed a number of kids who absolutely dominated at certain levels and then were so-so at best later on.  Most of them did not blame someone else for their circumstances.  But there were/are a few who sincerely believe they were one step away from the NBA if others had not mistreated them.  Sort of too bad because their offspring are likely to embrace the thoughts/values of the parent(s) and that failed approach becomes self perpetuating.

 7. I know of one particular situation where a young man believes he was conspired against by a member of the coaching staff during his high school playing days.  What is MOST IRONIC is that the person he holds responsible is the ONLY reason he ever saw the hardwood.

I know Josh Freeman, and Coach Davis was up there but don't know the exact number of 3's were made in a game.
That's a myth (even though Sutherland and his coaching staff do work hard). HJ has had as much talent at the 3A level as anyone has in this area. They have basketball players, contrary to what some might think.
My point was NOT whether or not they had basketball players but rather how many times somebody has said "well, they were good last year, but its not looking so bright this year".  HJ has never been blessed with a lot of athleticism but they compensate for that with some very good basketball intellect developed over the years by a good little dribblers program and a competent high school staff that recognizes how to deal with the "short on athletes but long on understanding the game" issues.

Those same two teams will once again battle this season. 3rd place in this district is just a gift. He understands the point guard position. He encourages his teammates. He plays against some of the top players in the nation on one of the top AAU teams in the nation. To see him play against the caliber of competition I've seen so far is very disturbing to me. Because his daddy has taught them (he has siblings) to play against older and better players, who will better challenge them to get better. He's NOT learning anything or being challenged playing 9th grade here. He's doing things against other kids thats too easy for him. And no, I don't think my son is a star because he has a lot to learn and develop better skills. And sir, being around sports all my life, I can tell you that being a coach does not mean you have the intricate knowledge of basketball and judging talent. Talent is like laying out the facts  its there for you to see for yourself. No boasting sir just the facts.
