Played well for so early in the season. HJ will be fine this year. Not sure how good the hurt players are but I don't think they are good enough for state though.
Hurt players???  Well lets see....starting center and best 3 pointer shooter we have.  They will make a difference once and if we get them back.  Not good enough for state???  They never are on paper but always seem to make a run. Would have been nice to just to have left that comment off ForeverADog!!!!! Best of luck to Nederland....they are very good and I hope they win 20-4A again.  Coach English is a class act and great coach!!!
This is a forum and he can say whatever he would like. I guess that hit you in the soft spot since HJ lost tonight. But it will be OK. Hardin Jefferson is always a good team, but I agree with him. HJ doesn't look like the deep state tournament team like has been in past years.
They didnt look like it (according to the wisdom on this board) at this point in either of those two seasons either.  I know you dont like history, but being in the regional final for four or five consecutive years speaks volumes.
I never said I didnt like history.. Im just saying HJ doesnt look to have that star potential of a team like they have had in the past. Some of the students were started chanting "Over-rated" towards the end of the game. And while they were just saying that because Nederland was winning, I, along with other people in the area who arent wrapped around the idea that HJ created Basketball, can look at what this team has and make some what of a judgement call and say that HJ isnt what they have had in the past. JMO..
And I am responding by suggesting it is way too early in the season to "declare" who is and isnt good enough to go to state, hence the Celtics-Raptors-Cavs analogy.

The Freshman PG for HF can go. I don't know his name or anything, I've just put pieces together on here to figure out it's Bluedove's son (I think). Only reason I went to watch HF play. I have to say sir...if that is your son...he's good and you and previous coaches have done a good job teaching him the game. I saw tons of height on that team when I watched them play. Guard play is going to make or break that team.
so which team did lil dove play on last night?
We had a guard from the JV play some minutes for the varsity last night. Excellent move. He will be part of the future. Get him dirty now.
I agree.  Good move.  Preparing him for the "Dove declared championship" which is relatively imminent.

Are some offended that I brought up history regarding the last time Nederland beat HJ?  Thats fine.  I have no problem with that.  I find it interesting that there are many who deem history as irrelevant UNTIL the time that history helps to make their point- at which time history suddenly becomes one of the most important factors.  The fact that some schools have a "negative history" does not mean that the "positive history" of other schools is not relevant.  I watched the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Boston Celtics last week.  Would anyone care to make a substantial wager on which team will go further this season?
Oh I was simply pointing out that apparently Nederland did see a team that was good enough to go to State. In which Ned did win by 20 because Frances Torres went off and had 45 points. No attack to you Nashy  ;) Simply using your info from when Ned beat HJ by 20, and HJ still went to State.
As I said earlier, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors both beat the Celtics this season but I believe only one of those teams will be involved in the playoffs.  I also dont think the Cavs and Raptors are proclaiming themselves world beaters for that feat.

Not sure how good the hurt players are but I don't think they are good enough for state though.
Heres a little history for you dog.  A couple of years ago, Nederland beat HJ by twenty and then HJ turned around and lost to Central the next game and was 1-2.  They were in Austin at the end of the season.
 8.
This is not a coaching problem. It is a system problem. System most likely will not change. Any coach would have the same issues.Let me say it again! Universssalll off-seasssonnnnn!!!!!!!!!!! WOW........... which means??????????????? Help me!
Excuse me, but I was thinking that if the AD was independent with no loyalty to any one particular sport, the basketball program would get to do more of what would benefit its participants as opposed to making all athletes use the football conditioning program year round.  Say all you want, but "bigger, stronger, faster" is fine until it interferes with skill development.  Do you remember how "big, strong, and fast" Larry Bird was.  He was superior because he had his skills down and had a better basketball intellect than most.  That intellect does NOT get developed in the weight room nor do the skills.

Those guys will pass a layup to get the 3 ball going.  Should be a great game, anxious to see how the fresh does in his second game.  Good luck to both teams.
If you look at it that way, then you've never seen an HJ press.  They will get a steal here or there once in a while and then all of a sudden they will score 10 points in 40 seconds if the other team falls asleep.  Nederland is going to have to limit those runs. I am looking forward to a good game tonight, and though I think HJ will win, I do remember when Nederland came over to our court and killed us 2 years ago.  Ya'll had a small guard that hit like 50 points, mostly from the three point line.  Your guys took advantage of the 3 starters who had played JV the previous year.  That was sad, but it was fun watching those three mature throughout the year.
I think this team this year handles the press better most of the groups in the past. HJ may get a turnover here and there in fast break of a turnover, but I cant imagine Nederland letting HJ score 10 in a row without some kind of score. Cunningham and K-Smith are 2 of the top players in the area and can score the basketball. Im not sure how the big guys for HJ are going to do against Kelvin down low either. And just imagine if Forney was healthy and ready to go. Nederland would pound it in the paint all night. As you can tell, I think Nederland is going to win tonight, but it will be a good one because HJ comes to play every night.
While you are imagining, I would like to imagine things for HJ if their two missing starters were also playing
 10.
Not a guru but do have a couple of opinions, first with no disrespect, if a kid gets a letter at this age I used to call them an everybody letter, just add a kids name and bulk mail.  Even going into senior years kids will continue to get them.  As I am sure you are aware it is when the money starts coming for the scholarship is when the letters matter.  Those letters for Div 1 are few and far between.  Granted there are alot of schools out there but most kids think if a Lamar comes calling its a joke and they are way to good for that.  Reality can be a strange thing.  Was watching KY play tonight and and their 9th man was the former Mr Basketball in Kentucky.  Now barely plays.  The next level is something that most kids do not have the dedication for because of a couple reasons. First, if they are really good then they are not really used to getting coached aka yelled at, cursed at, having to work harder than they ever have.  In college sports they own you, plain and simple. There are not alot of one and done's out going to college.  Second, as long as basketball coaches are the AD basketball will always be 2nd or 3rd or whatever.  The reason this does not and will not happen at an HJ is because of the success of the program.  Could you imagine the fb coach going to Sutherland and saying, not gonna have your kids to day unil they get that work out done.  Believe me, it happens mnost other places.  Get rid of the FB AD and make it a separate position.  On the other hand, good luck with the year.
Couldnt agree more about the AD needing to be a separate position.
You could tell Bosha is gonna be something special by watching friday night. If the Hawks get Anderson back the district race is gonna be a dandy.Watching the HJ staff friday night looking down the bench for combinations, due to foul trouble, was like working a rubics cube. They desrve a lot of credit for that win.I was really surprised how good a game it was this early in the season.
District is going to be more competitive than many think.  Those who have already preordained Silsbee as District Champ have good reason to do so, but I think its going to be a little harder than they do.

Thats 30-45 minutes of extra gym time and skill development those kids could use.
it aint basketball season in hf it is football offseason tried to tell yall that when they made the hire
I assume you are correct b/c anyone who has a wee bit of basketball intellect knows that you DO NOT lift weight or do "circuits" on basketball game day? So, I am left to feel that there is a missing dedication to basketball at HF. Which is total disrespect to the game. I am looking for 100% commitment or nothing! I am looking for the same standard of excellence that I expect at home and on the court. Everything about and around the Varsity coach should eat, sleep, breathe and BLEED BASKETBALL. Now, Coach English does a great job at this b/c everything abt him is basketball, basketball, basketball. I see him grinding out on the tough circuit, getting his team better. I am looking for a program, committed to hardwork, grit, and most of all PRIDE and an expectation of WINNING! The question is, will I ever find this at HF! Oh, and please naysayers, I am only talking abt basketball, education is important but this is a basketball forum. So, don't get on me abt not being abt education and only basketball.
Where are those who criticized me for saying the hire was all about football and nothing else?  The proof is in the pudding and the results in either effort dont justify the approach
