Everybody wants them going to the WAC and other mid major conferences, so LU will have to recruit better. Thats just my opinion and it's way different then yours. Figured you to be a yankee by your mouth. Sorry you get your feelings hurt when someone says thier opinion, but if if your going to sit thier and say that watching Lamar football this year was like watching college football your kidding yourself. I don't care how [roud you are of LU and your family track record. I just want to see LU drastically improve the football program to compete year in year out. I didn't expect them to be a top notch team the first year, but I was surprised at the lack of fundementals that I observed.
There aren't any FIVE STAR recruits going to any southland school you idiot!!!!  This shows your lack of knowledge right here!!!
There aren't many going to the remaining WAC members either

He can play at the next level.
Marcus Jackson as well. Marcus 41 rec./728 yds/8 TD   played 11 games JJ  52 rec./745 yds/6 TD  played 9 games Both are good and may have a chance. I think both will be seniors in 2011.
I'm sorry, but you have to see what JJ does against major competition and not NAIA and DII competition.
I agree, but there are guys from small colleges in the pro's. Who knows?
Also true. I bet he'll end up playing in one of the sub-pro leagues, like the UFL, Arena League, etc
I predict that Lamar has a lead at the half - but Ark State makes some adjustment at the half that Roc has absolutely no answer for and the Cards dwindle their lead and lose in the last two minutes.
Looks like you nailed it on the head
 5.
They can dunk during warm-ups as long as the refs aren't on the floor. Once those guys show up it's a no-no.
Why is that?
 6. Stinks for Lamar, but this kid had a habit of not making the grade, it's not too shocking.
 7.
I gave up going to LU games two years ago.....what a waste of the last few years....  :(
Crucify this t-shirt fan, how dare you!
 8.
He played that long because there were several records in reach. You are correct 28 is over half. I read your post about Corey Allmond versus Kentucky. He did nail 11-15 3 pt FG's but he wasn't close to 50 points. I believe he scored 37 and he played over 28 minutes in that game. Great game, where is he playing now? You just gotta say something negative. Guess it is a BearKat thing. You can't tell me if one of SHSU players were in reach of a few school records we'd be having this conversation.
He's playing in the NBA D League for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. I just think this is Roc trying to secure his job. Look Larry, we broke some records, and I beat this DIII team by a lot! I'm a good coach.
 9.
252 comments about the article and you are right some are brutal. Well, you can't make everyone happy.
Some are worse than others, a lot of that has to do a lot more with the score and Coach Roc telling him to keep running up the score than with him actually getting the record. Think back to last year when the Houston Yates coach caught all the flack for stomping schools, I think that's the same anger.
 10. Actually, he played the most on the team, more than all the starters.  James had 28 minutes and the next two highest were at 22.
However, I can appreciate a young man scoring 52 points in 28 minutes of action. James played less than half a game. If he played the whole game I would agree it wouldn't be that big a deal.
There are two twenty minute halves in college basketball, he played 28 minutes, which means he did play over half the game.In fact, he played almost 75% of the game.
 11. YAWN  ::) ::) ::) Do it against DI competition and then I'll be interested. This is like getting excited about the Varsity team beating up on the JV team. I would be shocked if it didn't happen. Congrats for the young man though, his names in the books for nailing about 50% of his shots against a DIII school Does this mean Roc gets to keep his job now? All well with the Cardinal faithful?
 12.
Lamar is only averaging 86 points a game because all but one non-conference opponent is sub-D1. EPG
The main question wasn't why are the points so high, it's why are the points so high if the FG% is so low. All it means is that you take A LOT of shots, and less than half of them fall, but luckily you get A LOT of free throws too
 13. What is a Field goal: [Hidden Content]
Basketball field goals can be classified by any shot taken from the court, whether it be a layup or a three point shot.
14.
Layups versus jump shots.  When Lamar plays no name college and can run, get to the basket and shoot layups they score, when they are forced to play a half court game against a decent team the percentage is in the low 30's.  Check the stats for points per game against D1 schools only.
Layups and dunks count in the equation. It's a ratio of all shots made, including 3 point shots. That's why Centers usually have higher FG% then other players, they get the "easier" under the basket shots. Lamar also ranks about 75th in terms of FT%, which DOESN'T go into the FG% number, but does bump up the PPG number.
 15.
You're right. Maybe I need to reconsider SFA so we can keep our annual win  ;)
I watched that final quarter on GameCast and had your student radio station playing. It was an epic comeback.
 16.

In a few weeks the NCAA will decide if the WAC can keep their auto-bid to the basketball tourney.  If that doesn't pass then I doubt Lamar would join the WAC.  After that obstacle then Lamar has to figure out how to increase it's budget because they'll have a hard time being successful with a $11 million budget.  It needs to be at least $15 million to keep up with the other teams in the WAC. There's also the issue of facilities.  The Montagne Center will fit right in the WAC although a new scoreboard would be nice.  Vincent-Beck is about to be renovated so that's a plus.  I think the softball field is planned for 2013, which would mean they would start softball about the same time they'd start transitioning to FBS, so that would take care of the title 12 requirements. The football stadium holds 16K so it needs to be expanded if Lamar goes FBS.  Let's say Lamar announces they'll join the WAC in 2013, they'll  be bowl eligible in 2015.  That would give them about 4 years to expand the stadium.  This gives them time to finish the other renovations. I don't think Lamar wants to stay in the SLC long term but if they join the WAC they'll still play a few more years at the FCS level before moving up.  We'll see what happens.
I know my opinion doesn't matter, but Lamar is the only Texas team I want elevated with us and UTSA into the WAC. Yall would solidify an eastern division with TXST, UTSA, LU, LATECH, and NMSU. What's enrollment at these days? Student fees are an easy fix for the budget if your enrollment is decent enough.. it's what's bank rolling us to FBS
And LU will be a team that TSU-SM can actually beat in that division.  ;D ;D
 17. But if all the FCS schools "move up" To FBS, I would be surprised to see it divided again. Heck, FBS level teams need to be divided again, there's an obvious gap between the schools.
 18.
Dairy queen gives away free popcorn chicken everytime the men or women score 100 points to anyone in the stands. They just show their ticket stub at dq within 24 hours. The rockets do the same thing with a free taco from taco bell.
Nice. I know SFA has certain challenges that gets the crowd a BOGO combo from Cane's. Now that's some goooood chicken
 19. Just curious, I'm not a card, but who gives out the free chicken? What company?
 20.
Playing FBS, Lamar should be able to get home games with such teams as Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma st, Baylor, Tulsa, Memphis, Louisville, Kansas st...etc
Absolutely no way. The reason a lot of schools (like Texas) make away trips to certain places (like Wyoming) is to recruit. Most of those teams you listed up there would not travel to Beaumont for recruiting. Going FBS would get you games against teams like Middle Tennessee State, LA-Tech, La-Monroe, North Texas (maybe), Western Kentucky, Akron, Ohio, and whatever schools are in the conference. The idea that top 25 teams will come to Beaumont are highly unlikely
 21.

I agree with the concept of 2nd tier schools coming to LU but the question for those who really want to move to BCS is who do you want to see coming to BMT and why?  Outside of the Southland Conference there are some very good FCS schools that might be an equal draw.
I assume you mean FBS and not BCS because I doubt Lamar will be invited to that club anytime soon.  But according to the big article in the Beaumont Enterprise last month Lamar wants to be bowling by 2015.  That fits perfectly with what Karl Benson's 3 to 5 year plan.  The WAC may not be around or Lamar may have other options by then, who knows.  But outside of McNeese, SFA, and SHSU, what other FCS schools would draw well?  Most are either on the east coast or out west.  Does anyone even know who's playing the FCS championship that's coming up?
Technically, all FBS schools are BCS schools. The media mixes up the terms to mean that BCS schools are the AQ conference schools, when in fact, ALL FBS schools are BCS schools.
I was thinking of the BCS conferences and how they get the majority of the BCS money.  The WAC gets a few million a year of that money now, but that could all change when the contract expires in a few years.
Again, they are all BCS conferences at the FBS level. Some conferences are AQ conferences ans some are not. The amount of revenue sharing is done within each conference and vary across conferences AQ and non-AQ. It's just the nature of the beast that the AQ Conferences get to go to the BCS bowls that pay the largerst amount. I want to say there was an article out a few weeks ago about how UConn, a team from an AQ conference, was going to lose money, because the Big East doesn't buy tickets that UConn can't sell, unlike the Big 12.

 23. I agree with 2nd chances because there's a big difference in mistakes and habits. If he continues trouble at Lamar, then it's more of one time problem and more like a pattern of behavior.
 24. AAW, a 57% completion rate as a senior is not too impressive.
 25. Even though I'm not a Lamar Cardinal, it's the one day of the year where I can put down the rivalry talk and wish you all a Merry Christmas.
