I dont mind passing 50 times a game..if we just threw it to the right team..air that sucker out!!!  Bring back alborn's air raid siren..loved it.
The only thing really annoying about those types of games is that they seem to take FOREVER because the clock is stopped so often with incomplete passes and catches along the sideline going out of bounds. I like good smash-mouth football. Those are the plays you see as highlight tapes on YouTube. You rarely see big pass plays as "Wow!" films.
 2.
Agreed JJ. It either seems the favorite wins by 45 or they are upset. Not sure why lol
It's always baffled me. SHSU hasn't had a real dominant team in a while, but it seemed like I'd go to a game and see us get mopped up and then other games play super competitively.
 3. Goska was redshirted in 2007, and didn't see any time in 2008, and VERY limited time in 2009. But from HS:
A 2007 graduate of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School ... All-state quarterback as a senior ... As a senior also earned his second consecutive all-region and all-conference honors .... Was named to 2006 and 2005 Channel 7 All-Star teams ... Earned all-state second team honors as a junior ... Led his team to Division I state runner-up as a junior and was named the Wisconsin Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year ... Racked up nearly 5,000 career total yards, including 3,616 rushing yards ... Threw 23 career touchdowns and ran for 36 ... Also lettered three times in basketball and earned all-conference second team honors as a junior ... Lettered twice in baseball and was an all-conference second team pick in 2004 ... Also lettered twice in track.
4. Women's basketball at the mid major level is one of the most turbulent compared to sports overall. It seems like each week, the "favorite" can be beaten. As for men's basketball, the better team usually wins, but for women's, it seems to fluctuate. Hopefully Lamar can make it into the Top 25 and represent the SLC well.
 5.
North Dakota's starting quarterback is out for the season.  Their top running back has a hamstring injury and is listed as day to day.  None of that will help if Lamar can't score any points. [Hidden Content]
I'm thinking the defense/special teams are going to have to put some points up on the board in order to keep Lamar in the game. Any word on video broadcasts? I'd like to watch.
 6.
Lamar averaged almost 26 points per game their first 3 games, since then they have scored a total of 27 points.  And against D1 opponents Lamar gives up over 35 points a game.  Lamar can't be favored to win any games with those numbers.  Nevertheless, the defense is improving and if Bevil can find a way to play halfway decent without turning the ball over all the time Lamar has a chance to win.
And that's the biggest problem with Lamar. I think the if the offense could run the ball, a little more clock management, it would keep the defense (and the other team's offense) off the field.
 7.

Guard Mike James is the real deal. If, IF, they can come together they have a chance at SLC tourney. Deepest and most talented team Roc has had by far.
I have heard this every year for 5 years.  Hope it is true this year.
ditto.
 8. Dome or no dome, it's still going to be cold. The kids have to adjust to being up there in the cold, then going in a dome to warm up. There's more to the weather than just game-time temp.
 9. I predict another handy win for UND. They aren't a bad team, contrary to what their record says. I got the chance to watch them play against FBS Idaho earlier this season. They are a strong physical team with some good speed. I think the real problem for Lamar will be getting those kids adjusted to the weather. It's mid 50s all week this week, and it will probably only get colder next week. I'm not sure if anyone on the roster has experience playing in cold weather. I'll take UND by 18. Hopefully Lamar can put some points on the board, but I don't think they can manage under the weather.
 10. I'm not trying to trash anyone, but TYPICALLY (not always), this many injuries can be chalked up to poor conditioning.
 11.

I'll email you later to let you know. He was also told that they were all the same caliber. But he would not see the field unless the other two got hurt. Gee, what would you do? Or you can call me.
Thanks, email me and I'll try to get it asap as I'm bad about staying on top of that (emails). Who is the other kicker. You state "he would not see the field unless the other two got hurt". I hope he wasn't talking about the punter who I've heard can kick. All I can say is it isn't just your family as 1. My brother was set to sign LOI with Texas A&I and at the last minute they signed another DB. 2. Then through a family friend who knew the recruiting coordinator at McNeese State he got an academic scholarship. Then after moving up the depth chart to second string left CB after his red-shirt freshman season they told him they weren't going to offer him a full-ride so since he was already engaged to his HS sweetheart he gave up football and transferred to Lamar along with his wife. Lamar had done dropped their program so football was over for him. I stated all that to let you know that I know how you must feel. Best of luck to your son, Taylor and if he still wants to play and Lamar won't give him a shot don't let that stop his dream of playing college football. Transfer to a school that will and you son will have a fan here. Buzz, just keep the forum here or the HS forum aware of where Taylor is playing and he'll have a supporter here.
SFA needs a new kicker, that kid is AWFUL.
 12.
Please enlighten the rest of us since you know so much.  Also how do you know he was given 3 chances, are you a coach?  I can't see Trahan screwing off when it comes to kicking.
He isn't a coach. His brother is one but not at Lamar. As a former Lamar athlete, he has several sources and knows more than most about the Cardinals athletic department. That said, I'm not stating he is correct because I don't know. However, I do know Trahan was given a tryout as a walk-on. Can't we all get along.  :D :D :D
That wouldn't be nearly as fun.
 13.
Your coach wouldn't have been Coach Larry Haynes at Lumberton?
Nope, ol' Lamar alum and NFL pro Johnny Fuller.
If Taylor Trahan wouldn't have screwed around he may have made it.  Coaches gave him 3 different chances.  There is more to that story than everyone is presenting!
Yea, and if he had made those three kicks then Lamar would have lost 26-9. It's still a loss. The offense was non-existent Saturday.
 14. Marijuana is a negligible offense in my books when it comes to drug possession. However, I do thin Baylor was in their right to dismiss him, as would any school that chooses to do so (Just last week, two Wash. State Freshman were caught with over 30 plants in their house). However, with him moving back home, I think it'd be hard for him to get straight. If he were going somewhere else (out of Texas or away from Beaumont) then I think he'd be able to get straight again. I would assume (pure assumption) that he started using in high school, and coming back to with his old friends won't make quitting any easier. Just my opinion though

Lamar has competitive facilities and a QB that needs to be replaced (I think that's the general consensus). Also, if you look around the SLC Sam has a true Freshman QB SFA's star QB is leaving, but his backup (Brady Attaway) is also a Freshman TSU-SM's starter is a freshman McNeese is starting a freshman This is his best opportunity to get in early and make an impact.  ;D ;D
As long as someone is eligible I don't care if he is 4 or 40.  Play whoever is the best.
If a 4 year old is eligible, I'd be more impressed that he passed the SATs then his ability to throw the football.

I could not agree with you more.  It's ashame that they let Taylor Trahan slip through their fingers.  We definitely would not have to worry about missed field goal attempts!
Some TSU-SM posters were blaming the kicker for their quadruple overtime loss to Nicholls on Saturday, and it reminded me of something my high school coach used to tell me. If the offense had played better, we wouldn't have needed the kicker to begin with. Before you start blaming kickers for not making chip shots, just think about if the offense had done a little better and gotten him closer. He used to tell us that if the defense had picked up some fumbles or ran back some interceptions, we wouldn't have lost either. We lost a lot. =( That's my opinion on it, but that's because I saw my offense in high school get chewed out a lot, and we were all pretty down after losses. It's easy to blame the kicker.
Oh come on, if not for the kicker we would be undefeated!   :D
If not for the kicker, you would have been shut out against SFA. I feel bad for kickers. They get all the grief if they miss one and the team loses, but the QB gets all the credit for driving them down the field in the final minutes so that the kicker can kick it.

 18.
Hopefully the excitement of football will rollover into basketball.  Seems like students are getting more involved in all the sports on campus.
I know that's a dream that Billy Tubbs wants to see. I actually think it might hurt a little bit, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the same number of people for your games as in the past. Y'all have a great turnout for basketball, and the fans deserve a better home slate, but that's a different topic all together.
 19.
Guy's it isn't uncommon for the QB to come to the sidelines and sit by himself. I haven't been to all the home games due to work commitments but unless he is arguing with teammates I don't see it as a big deal. You guys would not believe the actions of a former LU basketball player named James Davis off the court. I hated to watch him on the bench. Glad he was only here one season! However, back to Bevil, it would be best for him to be talking with his OC between possessions and maybe get on the same page.  ::)
Oh no, trust me, you don't want that. Ol' Whitten will have him too confused. I think Bevil needs to take his practice time and work on reading defenses. That must have been something they missed at Navarro.
 20.
Guys, this is our first year to compete on the football field. The athletic complex (for strength and conditioning wasn't finished until after the season started) so I believe they will improve by getting bigger, stronger and faster. Plus, it is proven the better conditioned athlete has fewer injuries. It is too early to dog the coaching staff. It is the players who make the players or don't. I don't think Coach Woodard fumbled the ball 5 times on Saturday. You guys keep on talking about a running game. Well, you first have to hold on to the ball. Then it would be nice to gain a few yards if somehow you can keep the ball protected. Man, if you can't run what is the only other option? Pass the football but our QB is not taking care of the ball either. IMO, he is still hands down the best option so I hope Coach Woodard takes these two weeks to get another QB ready for North Dakota so I can say I told you so (about Bevil). There isn't a better QB on the team this year. Then how can you dog the defense when they are on the field the whole game. USA was averaging over 50 PPG and the defense held them to ONE TD, the rest of the scoring was FG's and a defensive TD. Now, the punter did a good job since he was used EIGHT times Saturday but I am not sold on the kicker. The coaching staff states he is injured but I think they may need to use one scholarship to find someone else who can back him up if he is injured or beat him out for the starting position. That is all I'm saying at this point and I''m not going to argue the point. Again people we are a first year program and I'll be happy with 5 or 6 wins this season. You guys dog the coaches all you want. That isn't my style.
Sounds like a pretty fair assessment to me. There aren't any MAJOR problems with the team, in reality, you have all the pieces to field a great squad, but there are a lot of MINOR problems that accumulate throughout the game. Poor run blocking, failure to hold onto the ball when running, poor QB reads, defensive schemes are mismatched, etc. All things that are just kinks in the system that get worked out as a team plays together.
 21. He's pretty spot on, if you think about, Beaumont is 4x bigger than Nacogdoches and Huntsville, and about 2x the size of San Marcos. Y'all should be drawing decent crowds for all your sports. It's been great so far, but I predicted a while back that next year (outside of home opener and homecoming), that number will probably level off to about 9,000-10,000, with slightly bigger numbers for the McNeese game (assuming it isn't homecoming)
 22. At first I was thinking this was not the best game for him to go to, if he's thinking about transferring, but in hindsight, it's the best position for him. 23.
Was it SHSU homecoming game Saturday? Just looked at their athletic page and it was homecoming!
A lot of people were upset about the poor turnout for homecoming, but then a poster made a really good insight. The VAST majority of our alums are from the Houston area, and chose which games to attend strategically. With Battle of the Piney Woods being next week at Reliant Stadium, it's probably pretty certain that they opted for that game over the trek to Huntsville for Homecoming. There are already roughly 20,000 tickets sold for that game, probably a little less than that. With Homecoming the week before, it's hard to get people going two weeks in a row. But then again, even when we were good we were only getting about 10-12 thousand in there.
 24.
So bammy's coach has one yr of college coaching experience....the rest high school ...our OC? an impressive 25-28 record at Slam houston...11yrs head coaching experience at college level... He got schooled by a high school coach...........
He got the majority of his fame before Sam as the coach at Tarleton, where he racked up some good wins. He inherited a playoff team in his first year in 2005 and took them straight to the can after that. I want to say (and I'm not 100% sure), but in the last 2 years all his wins came against teams with losing records. However, he runs an offense that is VERY exciting, when it's clicking. When it's down, it's embarrassing. bulldogs2004: I made the same comment about attendance on the game thread. As the camera flashed across the stands, you could see a lot of empty pockets. I was under the assumption they sold all the tickets and people either 1) didn't show up or 2) left early because of the performance on the field. Either way, it's 2 times the ticket sales that SFA and Sam can have. Kudos for still getting people into the games, it's better than some of the teams in the SLC.
 25.
That's correct.  Now, stay off our board.
I'll ignore that and take it as an ignorant response. The majority of posters on here have been polite except for you. Seeing as how you don't have a moderator tag under your name, I don't see how any of my actions warrant my disappearance.
