I guess we won't be hearing from them about how it's not that good of an achievement.  ::) ::)
 2.
How shocking.........another loss!!!!!
Nicholls was expected to win your division, so I don't see why this is really any surprise to anyone?
 3.
Wish the young man a successful career at McNeese but Coach Woodard has verbals from HS O-lineman rated ahead of Jones. I have a niece attending Lamar along with her boyfriend and they told me most of the people stayed on campus during football season. I guess your comment about students staying on campus is the reason he wasn't even looking at SHSU.
Well if he was looking at SFA, he shouldn't peak to hard there either, they're just as bad.
 4.
"He felt like (McNeese) was more sports-oriented,” Jones said. “He’s really enthusiastic about it and looking forward to playing there.”
Ouch. Lamar's tailgating (from pictures) looked like it was better than most of the SLC. I guess he wanted a campus where people stayed at school during the weekends instead of going home
 5.
JJ was making it sound like it happened a lot. The University of South Dakota football team beat Minnesota. So, that is two times a FCS school beat a FBS school in football. Can someone name about 10 more last season?
It doesn't happen nearly enough, IMO, but here are last years upsets: 1) Ole Miss, SEC (Jacksonville State 49-48, 2 OT) 2) Kansas, Big 12 (NDSU 6-3) 3) Akron, Mid-American (Gardner-Webb 38-37, OT) 4) Minnesota, Big 10 (South Dakota 41-38) 5) #13 Virginia Tech, ACC (James Madison 21-16) 6) Ball State, Mid-American (Liberty 27-23) 7) San Jose State, WAC (UC-Davis 14-13) Also, I watched first hand, Montana State beat the crap out of WSU on the road, and end up losing by a point in the waning minutes as WSU pulls out a last minute FG. Does it happen all the time, nope, but once you get to be consistent, people notice.  They got paid big time bucks to go out there and add a win to their record.
 6.
FCS schools beating FBS schools doesn't happen all that often. If so, please name 10 that happened all of last season. I have no problem with SHSU staying FCS. It probably fits your program best.
I'm fine with Sam staying in FCS because of the budgetary requirements mainly. The cost of that move is astronomical, and I don't think the costs should be passed down to the students so that the school can be a punching bag.
with all the bowl games, every tom, censored and harry goes
At least your program is getting some national exposure.  ;)
Yea, Western Kentucky gets tons of national exposure, but I'm not sure it's what they really want. At least I can say this was a magical football season in which I got to see WKU break their record for straight losses. Oh, and FCS programs that that win against FBS programs get a good dose of national attention too.
 8.
That is why they need more bottom feeders in FBS.  One more thumping of an FBS bottom feeder and Texas would have had a winning record.
Very true. I guess with TSU and UTSA heading in, it'll be two easy, cheap thumpers
 9.

CardAmbassador, I agree it would be easier to get to a bowl game in a FBS conference than get to the FCS national championship game.
with all the bowl games, every tom, censored and harry goes
Well, half of them at least. Hell, Texas almost got in with a losing record. That baffles me. There are so many bowl game right now that they're running the risk of inviting losing programs.
 10.
Glad I didn't drive over from Houston to see this game. Those "over and back" drives are really long, especially on a week night. I'm a Montagne season ticket holder since it was built...and at times a ROC defender on this site. I'll keep my season tix as long as I have a job because I love lamar...but no more defending the state of this program. It seems to be close to anarchy. Interestingly, their conference record is not really all that bad. A tight, motivated well coached team could still be in the race with this record. But there's little evidence that is the case with this team. Too bad.
Wait. Why buy season tickets if you don't go to the games? Why not just donate your money to the dept so they can do whatever they want with it?
 11.

But think about what your saying 360 and look at what I said, they match up. The FCS title game draws that rating and ESPN does basically NOTHING to promote FCS football or the title game, other than showing the game. Will it outdraw the TAMU-LSU, absolutely not. ESPN markets the heck out of those bottom bowl games. They've got all the fantasy games online related to it, they've gone analysts spending countless hours before the game trying to figure out if MTSU will be Miami (Ohio).
Think about this. What is your probability of getting into a Bowl versus the FCS Championship game. Each conference has at least one bowl if not two. That gives you a 1/12 at the least chance of being on TV year in and year out. How many FCS teams are there? Over 100 surely, and only two make it to the championship. I would rather be in a Toilet Bowl (which gets replayed on ESPN countless times) rather than the FCS Championship. There is no way you're going to convince anyone that the FCS championship game is worth as much as a lesser bowl.
As it stands, you're right. It's worth much more. The problem is, FCS has only seemed to grow over the past couple years as more and more FCS teams upset the major programs. Those bottom bowls will always be at the bottom, with half empty stadiums. There's no upside there. Also, you're probabilities are WAY off. That 1/12 is assuming that each team in the conference is equal, and it's not.

Interesting......
scramento st plays wac baseball...idaho and utah st dont..dont know about denver...
Sac State is an affiliate member, they don't count as a "WAC team." Baseball is usually the tertiary sport in terms of competition. The WAC has (I think) 4 teams that are affiliate members playing baseball
 14. Just out of curiosity. Why do all the SLC games start at 7, but Lamar starts at 7:05. It seems like most of the Lamar home games start like that.
 15.
[quote author=JJWooten link=topic=78804.msg955242#msg955242 If the NCAA was serious about FCS-level football then they wouldn't have the championship game at the same time as a bowl game.  Also, having the championship game 3 weeks or whatever after the semi-finals didn't help matters.  It's not the Super Bowl, the hype doesn't build while waiting for the game.  If the NCAA made FCS-level football more relevant it could probably get a lot more attention than an all these low-level bowls and schools wouldn't be jumping at the opportunity to go FBS.
It's not the NCAA's fault, it's ESPN. They control whether a sport becomes popular or not, hell look at Bowling or WSOP. Those two "sports" get more coverage than any FCS football. If ESPN covered FCS football it would require them to hire analysts that actually know about the sport. Right now, they only get the ones that are knowledge about FBS. I think there are plenty of NFL players from FCS schools to show that FCS programs can produce the talent, ESPN just doesn't care to cover it.
 16.
If there were an actual "Toilet Bowl" it would get better TV ratings than the FCS championship game!
I bet a of people turned in during the halftime of TAMU-LSU to watch one of the best FCS comebacks of the decade. Can you name any of the teams that played in the early December games? I know I can't and they were on Primetime ESPN.
 17.

You want funny, go look at the La Tech boards and other schools in the WAC and Sun Belt, and see what they think about the idea of Lamar being on "their level." It's kinda funny to think two of the worst conferences in FBS actually have enough pride  to actually look down on someone.
And the answer to that is everybody (well maybe not the Sammy St fans) thinks they are better than someone else, no matter what station in life they are at, unfortunately even us humble LU fans.  We have beaten and been beaten by La Tech.  They are not as high and mighty as they think!
Oh, I agree. I just think it's funny that the bottom rung teams are still under the impression that they're better than everybody else. La Tech should want Lamar and SHSU so they'll be able to get 2 more wins in football, which equates to a better chance at the Toilet Bowl.

 20.
When is the LU/Sam game.......want to see that one to shut Wooten up!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Hahaha, it'll never happen. I like to talk waaaay too much. I think you're record against DI opponents speaks for itself. We're not much better, we like to blow halftime leads too. So basically, whoever is losing at halftime has the best shot at winning.

Then again, based on his history probably never.
It's like switching from the 100 meter dash to the 200 meter dash at the Special Olympics, even if you're in a different group, you're still....... you can finish it.
Wooten must know that either SAMMY ST doesn't want to make the move or the WAC doesn't want them.
Change it, Wooten doesn't want to make the move. Go figure, the Cards are all wrong again, even if you switch races, you're still in the retarded race.

 25.
Back to the topic of Sonnier, he looks to have talent to play DB as well as WR. I think he'll get the opportunity to somewhere at the next level. Best of luck to him and his family.
JJ played against Sam and had 9 catches for a little over 100 yards. The reason he was so successful is because of Bevil's style of play, chuck it up and hope somewhere is near the ball. He bailed Bevil out on many many plays, but I'm not sure about his ability as an overall route run play in and play out. He's got great size and hands and is a deep threat. We'll see how he plays with the new JJ.
