Coincidence? ;)
Along with the district champs Silsbee!
I have heard of revisionist history, but never seen it on this website. This explains a lot.

Lamar vs. McNeese St. Predictions?
Otter replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I predict that regardless of the outcome, it will be good to see the Cardinals back on the field even if it is playing McSneese. -
Does HF's Memory Carmon getting a full ride to Rice 4 years ago count.
-
I seem to remember that this thread was about the new HF Girls Basketball Coach and not his players. The new coach is rumored to be Steve Callazo of Kelly and PNG fame.

Sounds like the school districts administration needs to be embarrassed. Going to the media is a good idea, but officially working through the school board by getting on their agenda is how your going to win the battle.

Competitive scrimages all around. Huffman's got hitters.

when will Kountze get back to their old selves
Otter replied to trophyman's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I can honestly say I know nothing about Kountze, its current or past players and coaches. I can say that without athletes committed to select teams (basketball, volleyball or softball) you may never regain previous glory. And its not the High School Coaches fault. They only have the players for 2-3 months a year. Select ball allows continuous skills development and game situational awareness against high level competition. I reside in Fannett. You can choose to be Fannett good or you can improve your game throughout the year through select ball. The unfair part is the farther you live away from a metropolitan area, the farther you have to travel to get to select programs. Go to Houston or Dallas on any weekend and you see teams made up of the starters from several high school teams. Its hard to compete with that on the weekend or when they split up and go back to their high school teams. -

Most programs have a brochure that is given out before the seasons begin that cover what is expected of any athelete.I can't believe how many people don't realize how important team chemistry is and it is developed during the pre season practice. I have no ax to grind with the select squads but they have to make up their mind which is more important to them and pursue that sport to their fullest. It isn't fair to the school kids that make the sacrifice during 2 a days only to be displaced by girls who were off playing a select summer sport. The best solution would be for the folks over the ASA and the UIL to work something out over the scheduling conflicts where the kids could play both and not have a scheduling issue.
Good post Whsalum. The problem I see with select is, It has becomes an individual sport Instead of a team sport. Parents only care what their kid does instead of what the "Team" does. When select ball started is was a good thing but not any more. High school sports are still the purest form of team competition.
You must never have had a kid be part of a real select team? The team is where a lot of strong personal friendships are formed.
Trout is wise. -
Good Tournament for the Lady Horns. The girls went 5-1, only loosing by 5 to HJ including a win over Beaumont Central. Ciara Guilhas was named to the All Tournament Team. Thanks to LU for putting on the Tournament. 21-3A definitely put on a good showing. How long till basketball starts??????????? PS - Special Shout Out to Westbrook's and Buna's contribution.
There is a player transferring from Lumberton Middle School and will be a Freshman at HF. She is a solid guard, but I would not use the word great yet.(Gotta earn that title.) Her dad is not happy with the Lumberton program. Anyone know who the new HF coach will be?
No official selection has been announced yet.

HF will be there.

Whose playin at LU this weekend? :)

Examine successful collegiate basketball training programs and you will find that they incorporate both strength and pliometric training. A balanced regimen of skills, offensive, defensive, situational, strength and pliometric training is the road to becoming a better basketball player. Gym rats alone will not win championships.

Anybody know how many days until basketball? ;D

I saw one quote on the Softball forum that said "High School Sports come first. " It is this small minded thinking that led to the explosion of select sports. On every high school athletic team, you will find widely varying levels of commitment by the players to improve their abilities. This limits the ability of those most committed to improve and achieve. In select sports, most members on the team are aligned with each other in what they want to achieve personally and as a team. High School Athletic Staffs should be thankful for the level of athlete that results from select sports and should do what they can to support them. I believe that missing high school games for select sports is wrong. But to quote Alan Iverson, "We talkin bout practice". It is ashamed that High School Staffs think they are the center of the universe, when in fact, it is select sports that advance most high school athlete's collegiate aspirations. Should the girls have to make up the practices/run laps? Of course. Should they be banned from the team? Absolutely not. Should a family have to move to another school district because of this small minded policy? No way. I hope that some sanity comes to the decision makers in Orangefield. -
Just got back from Garner State Park. Worked in some time when not hauling kids tubing, hiking or to the dance to kayak fishing the Frio for bass. Pretty much continuous action. Not much size, but not a bad way to pass the time.
