Division I Baseball bracket released

LSU would've beat them too ;D -
I had the chance to meet Shaq and speak with him in length about 5 years ago when I lived in the Sugar Land area. He's a super nice and funny guy. Best of luck with his endeavors.

DC Duane Kroeker took a job at 2A Ingram just outside of Kerrville. I don't know of any other changes, but it's possible. I know Kyle Segura is going to Port Neches MS to have more time to spend with family. Other then that I don't know. I didn't pay attention it was a baseball thread. Haven't heard anything on the baseball side of things.

My deals is I don't think LSU deserved post season, but when you look at some of the teams that got in then you have to take LSU. They could of put LSU in Virginia's bracket as the #4 seed or something. Here's the reason why they didn't picket LSU, because every top seed in AMERICA is scared to play the Bayou Bengals this time of the year period :D ;D
Now you blew it. ;)
:D -

So now you say March games don't count. Come on and they finished 7-3 in the last 10 games. Doesn't matter who they played. They started out like 18-1 all though those were mostly home games. It's funny how many pick conference tourney, but nobody has said why RPI wasn't the major factor like how it's been for years. Watch next year, you won't be seeing big non-conference matchups. Everybody will be padding records. BTW, LSU is real young, they'll bounce back next year. -
LSU did not win "big" games this year. If a team does not qualify for its own conference tournament, then it should not expect to be in a regional. Sure, there are some automatic bid teams that should not be in (sub .500 records), but they did what they needed to do. LSU did not.
Sweeping Cal ST Fullerton? -

Take the conference tourney out of it. Why have RPI and go off of that every year, but this one. I agree and understand LSU didn't make the tourney, we all know that. Your talking about the SEC, which is the best baseball conference, maybe second to the ACC this year. The overall resume, I feel puts them atleast between 60 and 64 in the tournament. Take the 32 automatic bids out of it. I think they were between 30 and 32 of the at-large bids good. Ya'lls reasoning means that you should take everything out of the equation except if a team makes thier conference tourney? I see both arguments, but I don't want to let go :D ;D It's LSU. Must be a bunch of Horn fans still crying from two years ago :D ;D Next year, LSU needs to have 27 road games against chumps and make the SEC tournament as one of the eight teams and they should qualify for the NCAA tournament. -
They aren't in the top 25 in baseball america,Kendall Rogers rankings on Perfect games,USA today poll, collegiate baseball poll either, so every poll has them out of the top 25, so your telling me these ratings are crazy!!!!!!!! Like I said don't get swept 3 times in conference series then LSU wouldn't be in the situation they are in, reason Miss st got in because they did what they needed to do and only got swept 1 time in conference play!!! [Hidden Content]
I'm glad you posted that site because it shows you that LSU was only two games out of first with only 1 or 2 more conference losses then first place. It also shows that LSU had the 22nd best RPI in the country, which is mainly what they went by for years until this year.We can just agree to disagree, but I still say if your down to 60 through 64th teams, LSU should've been one of those that was picked. Hopefully they come back strong next year!!! No wonder you have so many smites!!! ::) -
IS Select Baseball "WORTH" The investment?
TradinUp BH replied to GTBBaseball's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The new fad that I've observed lately is lilltle leagues creating teams comprising kids from one league. The idea is to have the kids gel before all-stars and gives them a head start on practices. The only problem that I see with the younger kids 12 and under group is if kids are playing a 16 game little league schedule and then playing another 20 to 30 game select schedule is eventually the kids will get burned out. I don't think it's in the best interest of the kids that pitch either. It's hard for me to believe that these young kids aren't going to have some type of arm problems after throwing over 150 pitches in a five day period. Here's an example, top pitcher on a little league team and he is placed on a select team. He pitches 75 pitches Friday night for little league and then another 75 pitches during the weekend select tournament. This kid will probably pitch towards the end of that next week putting him around 220 pitches in a 7 day period. I think there should be some type of rule that if a select team under 12 years old plays one weekend that they aren't allowed to play until the third weekend. That gives select teams two weekends to play per month. That may not be the answer, but something along those lines. We've been involved in select for a while at the younger age and I'm kind os scratchiing my head why we've spent the money we have so far. Select is so watered down now, that depending on what tournament and teams that are playing, it's not that much more then little league IMO. -
I was in the 4th grade then and remember watching that game. Wasn't there a second year LU lost to Texas again on another bad call? I just remember like two years where the umps blew against the Cards. Back then you win the regional and off to Omaha you go. I like those days with 8 teams in one regional. I don't like today's format at all.

You can say what you want to, but lSU got hosed this year. They lost series to Georgia, Bama, Vandy, and Arkansas. Thier ratings were crazy and they were ranked in the top 25. Give me a resume of the last five chosen that beats LSU and I might agree with you. LSU didn't have a good year, but I think they did enough to be one of the 64 teams. Even in a down year, LSU would beat half of this years field. If the committee is going to change thier mind on what they go by every year, how's teams suppose to schedule in the future. They said RPI wasn't the main factor this year, but in years past it was. It helps when a couple of the teams were represented with a member on the committee. -
I say West End 10's for D12 and Nederland 10's for D32.
They have a national seed resume, when you win your reg season title and tourney title and your rice your going to get that national seed, just how it is, I am with you on sec thing but LSU can't even make there conference tourney, they don't deserve a automatic bid, St. Johns went 18-8 in the conference and finished 2nd in the conference, and also they have one of the best pitchers in the nation!!!
LSU has one of the best players in the nation in Mahtook sp?. They smoke everyone in attendance and travel well. I still say you take them before several of the SEC teams that went and a couple of others. Conference tourney isn't that big of a deal (It was for the selection committee), look at what UT did. -

They swept Cal St Fullerton 3 games and beat Miss State 2 out of 3 to end regular season. The problem was the conference record. I'd be curious what the teams that got in at large would've done in SEC. I think LSU should've went before Miss St and about 5 other teams. The school that has led the country in attendance for like the last 10 years. Wow! -
What y'all are saying is if anyone questions anything about Lamar athletics or what direction LU is planning on going their not real fans? Give me a break, if someone disagrees with you doesn't mean their not a fan. Wow! We'll just have sit back see how it plays out. Just curious what you guys expectations are and where you see LU football in let's say 5 years?

I still say if you continue with what your playing, that in 3 to 5 years you won't be getting 15k to games IMO.
maybe they schedule pote neches to keep your attention
Talk trash all you want to, I'm just speaking the truth. Love it or hate, I don't care. Why is it that you have to bring Port Neches into it? We probably do have the same attendance for our games as LU, and more in about 3-5 years ;D Blame the Boremont newspaper for bringing the topic up, and blame your coach for telling the fans to quit living in the past. Pretty arrogant statement to make to fans that are suppose to back the new program. You beg for millions to be donated just to have a sub par schedule? I think fans expect alot and fast. I still say I will wait 3-5 years and we'll see. I hope LU goes to the next level and competes. Maybe you can be the ball boy Puddin?
-
Heck, schedule ULL, Rice, Houston, somebody of that caliber. I don't think anyone is saying bring in UT or someone like that. People would be happy with regional schools. I'll give LU another 3-5 years and then we'll see what the long term goal is. People talk about how UT, A&M, and LSU have people attend games no matter who they play. You can't compare those schools because thier alumni base is so huge compared to LU. I've been to A&M and LSU games where they played Mcneese and the stadium was half full. IMO, LU has to keep the fans interest or else you'll be losing out in attendance. That's REALITY!
Hitting has been the problem the past 3 years. That's why we needed healthy pitchers to step up for us to win close games. You can't have 3 .220 hitters in the lineup and win a lot of college games.
I agree that good pitching beats good hitting, BUT LU's ERA was 3.89 as a team vs. Opponnents 4.85 ERA. Still I think the bats were the problem this year, and maybe some sub par fielding. Do you think that the injured pitchers would've made that big of a difference? I think maybe 6-7 games difference. Still have to hit the ball. LU had a team .275 batting average. From Southland website: TEAM BATTING g avg ab r h 2b 3b hr bb so sb-att Stephen F. Dallas Baptist coach had his team playing some good ball clubs. They played Oklahoma St, TT, UT, OU, A&M, and Baylor from the Big 12 and went 4-5. They went 3-0 against TCU and Rice. They went 3-2 against the PAC-10. This guy don't shy away from anybody and they went 39-17 on the season. Not too shabby. -
ruck, you are about to get hammered, everyone is about to bring up how many wins he has as a coach etc, I am with you lamar needs to clean house and bring someone new in because I promise they can get somebody and the person they need to get is the Dallas baptist head coach!!!!
I agree, his resume speaks for itself. I think it would be great fit, and he has four boys. They could live in Port Neches. ;D As far as LU goes, according to stats this year it came down to hitting not pitching. Scoring 0-2 runs 3-19 ... 3-5 runs 8-3 ... 6-9 runs 8-4 ... 10+ runs 10-1 If you use that stat from thier site, if they would've scored more then two runs maybe they could've squeeked out another 9 or 10 wins. They lost 3-2 and 4-1 in tourney which still not over two runs. I thought that was an interesting stat and shoots down the injury bug theory. No doubt it would've helped to have everybody healthy, but that wasn't the determining factor this season IMO.
