Everybody wants them going to the WAC and other mid major conferences, so LU will have to recruit better. Thats just my opinion and it's way different then yours. Figured you to be a yankee by your mouth. Sorry you get your feelings hurt when someone says thier opinion, but if if your going to sit thier and say that watching Lamar football this year was like watching college football your kidding yourself. I don't care how [roud you are of LU and your family track record. I just want to see LU drastically improve the football program to compete year in year out. I didn't expect them to be a top notch team the first year, but I was surprised at the lack of fundementals that I observed.
There aren't any FIVE STAR recruits going to any southland school you idiot!!!! This shows your lack of knowledge right here!!!
I understand that and watch your mouth! My point was if you can't get the five star players then you are left with CONTINUING to recruit locally houston area over this way. Be very careful what you call people, you don't see calling you that do you? -

bigred360, you have some valid points. My statement was if LU wants to CONTINUE to fill the stands, they will have to CONTINUE to recruit locally. I know they're already recruiting locally and doing a good job RIGHT now getting the local kids. It was just an opinion from me. BTW, I own LU shirts, and hats too! I also have a Saints shirt, but just to let you know, I didn't play in the NFL. Everybody I see now, I have to tell them to take off thier sports shirts, jackets, and any other appearal if they didn't play major league baseball, football, basketball, ping pong or whatever for that team. I'm sure all of the people that walk around this area with UT shirts went to UT. Nevermind, thier t-shirt fans, just like everybody that wears NFL shirts ::) Also, I don't care if there wasn't a mid-county player on the team or not. "You do know the difference in major college and small college football, right? Watching Lamar this year was like watching small college football. We are very talented at the WR position and they make some catches that were ESPN worthy. Maybe you can take time and watch the highlights of last season on the Lamar website and you can see for yourself" Yes, I know the difference, but if your wanting to go to the WAC or another bigger conference like that, you have to quit making the small college excuse. -

I think both will be seniors in 2011.
I'm sorry, but you have to see what JJ does against major competition and not NAIA and DII competition.
I agree, but there are guys from small colleges in the pro's. Who knows?

I can't think of the word for the structure I'm referring to but all the big-time programs have them.
used to take my son out for gilligan's camp...i swear it was 20 degrees hotter at VB than anywhere else in beaumont anybody been to aTm's baseball stadium? My daughter goes there..(blacksheep of a large LU family)..thats a really nice stadium...
Olsen field at A&M is nice. I played there when I was 13 for the state championship. Awesome. I like Vincent Beck though, I remember when the Gators played there, heck I was a bat boy for them for one year. The memories. I think just add visitor locker room next to the indoor batting cages and maybe look at building an awning over the stands like at alot of other college fields that covers the majority of the stands. Just a little more work and I think it will be one of the premier college baseball stadiums around.

We would march to the Thomas and Mack as a group. We did the same thing for football. We'll we didn't march to Sam Boyd, those without cars took the city bus. It was fun going as a group.
That's the kind of stuff that college is about.. That is one downside to Lamar.. You don't get the right "college" feel because it is a commuter campus. If more people lived on campus, the school would make more money, more activities would take place, better crowds, etc... Does Lamar have any rules with having to live on campus? I know some schools make freshman HAVE to live on campus their first year. Or you have to spend like 30 hours of your degree living on campus. If Lamar did that, a lot of things would change.
More than 2,200 students live in campus residence halls, compared to 600 in 2000. The 500 additional beds in Phase 4 of Cardinal Village, completed this month, filled quickly. Private housing near campus brings the total to about 3,500. [Hidden Content]] This is from 2007-2008 academic year. So, with phase 5 there are over 4,000 students living on or near campus. If someone wishes to find something more updated about on campus housing it would be appreciated.
So, 15,000 students give or take (correct me if I'm wrong) and only 4,000 on campus. LU wants to have more students at athletic events, they need to find a way to keep more people on campus. When students are on campus, if there's something fun going on on campus, they'll go to it. (Insert athletic event) Maybe on campus housing is too expensive. I don't know much about that.
Not much to do around the campus area, so most of the kids go back to Houston, Dallas area on the weekends. LU doesn't have restraunts, bars, fun places close to campus. LU has came along way since I was there in the early 90's, but it still has a long way to go. It would be nice to have an investor bring in a string of businesses along Rolph Christopher betwwen LU and stadium area, then maybe the students would hang out at those places before going to the games. Just a thought. -
I believe every game was sold out this year but admit I saw a lot of open areas at one of the games. Man, the majority of the 43 are from the Golden Triangle. You are right, there are a lot of season ticket holders from Mid-County. You mentioned what school your wife went to but didn't mentioned yours, just saying you like LSU. Are you just a T-shirt fan there? You wouldn't be a Lamar alum but rather so to Baton Rouge to see a game? Then to compare a first year FCS program to those like A&M and LSU is ridiculous. What did you expect headed off to Provost Umphrey? I've talked to the people at Lamar about attendance and what they want is more student attendance. Lamar has almost 15,000 students now and if just a 1/3 make the game that would be 5K. Then we need more people from Beaumont. However, we are getting people from Orange, Lumberton, Silsbee and those areas. Then there is the oldest reason in the book to come to Lamar football game and that is the team has to win. Period!
I graduated from LU, but was born in New Orleans and I like LSU. What's your point? I guess if I don't agree with you, you turn to bashing? What a guy ::) -
Ok, yes Im hearing alot about the woodlands, is Mongomery a county? or the name of a school?is it Montgomery High School/Middle school ? I will be in texas this sunday to start my job and start looking for a house , my family will be joining me when school is out for the year here in Ga. so that will give me plenty of time to go see the schools, maybe catch some baseball games/practices, and some football , maybe meet the coaches. We are all excited about coming to Texas, I have heard the Hunting is GREAT! Thanks to you all for your help, I have a similar post on a Texas travel baseball web site for 3 weeks now and dont have one response, I may be on the wrong one Im not sure but its the only one I have found so far.
You can also check the Bandito select baseball organization out of the Woodlands/Tomball area for select baseball as well as Legends and a couple of others. If you drive on Hwy 105 west out of Conroe for about 15-20 minutes you'ss see the town of Montgomery and the highschool and athletic facilities are across the street from HS.

One starts construction this year. The current bond only has one HS being built. The other HS won't be built until another bond is passed probably in a couple of years. This bond has 4 elem, 2, JH, 1 HS. There's new one just south of Sugar Land in Lamar Consildated ISD called George Ranch HS that just opened this year. There are around 8-10 new HS that either just opened or in the process of being built right now. Realignment in the next couple of years will be interesting.

The stadium was fiiled to capacity this year. Personally, I liked the tailgating better then the games I went to. I thought the team wasn't good, but the pre-game activities were fun. Sorry for bashing the team, but it wasn't like watching college football. Here's my two cents. LU will either have to recruit alot of local kids in the future to keep local fans going to the games or some how start recruiting some five star players. I don't think very many five star players will be going to LU. so your best bet is local talent. If it doesn't happen, then who knows what will happen in the future. Not trying to be negative, but like other people have already said, this area is more HS football then college football. My wife is an Aggie, so we go to A&M games and I'm a LSU fan. We go to Baton Rouge for games as well. It's hard to compete with those big school games.
We have 43 young men on the 2010 roster from SE Texas and the Greater Houston area. We have verbal commitments from a kid from Nederland, West Brook and a juco player who played prep ball at Ozen. Then we have a FBS transfer who is from Silsbee. Then in Dec. we signed DePauldrick Garrett formerly from WO-S and Adrian Guillory who played prep ball at Beaumont Central. I get it, but I sure would be curious to see the ticket holders by area. It appeared to me that alot of mid county residents are season ticket holders and surrounding area of Beaumont that are LU alums, I don't think many people from Houston are season ticket holders or attend many LU games. I may be wrong though. When you go to the tailgating activities and you see a majority of people you know, that means they are from this area. LU will have to find a way to get more people fro a greater distance then the golden triangle to keep attendance up. That's hard to do when you have U of H, Sam Houston, SFA, McNeese ULL, and sevearl others within a 2 to 3 hour drive. You have to find a way to get people to come to YOUR game instead of the other games where teams are playing well known teams. So, I think we are recruiting local talent. Maybe you'd like to review the roster and signees. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
-

Montgomery 1932.5 students, Magnolia 1640 students, Magnolia West 1794 students as of 2010. These are 4A schools I would look at. The edge would be Montgomery though. Conroe Oak Ridge 2685 students, The Woodlands 3782 students, Woodlands College Park 2565 students. These are the 5A schools that I would look at. The woodlands is a master planned community with all of the shopping, hospitals, eyc. that the wife would like, but it's more city like. Montgomery is more country style for now. It is growing, and it might end up being a 5A soon. Good luck on looking. Academic wise Montgomery and The Woodlands HS are top notch and some of the better schools test wise in the state.
Well, I have not found a house yet, jobs in Conroe. Any advice on schools/programs for a good athlete ? He's a top Baseball player also,,
Montgomery High School. In that area there is no better choice. They have great academics, nice athletic facilities, and are good in baseball and football. They take in the west side of Lake Conroe and the town of Montgomery as well as the country area around there. Thier football team went I think 4 rounds deep this year. Baseball is a powerhouse as well. He will get to play against great teams like Brenham, Magnolia, and several Houston schools, which are all really good in baseball and football. That would be my pick if I was moving around Conroe. BTW, The Woodlands and COllege Park are good schools, but thier 5A with alot of kids. Montgomery is a growing 4A school with not as many kids. Both are good though.
The kids who show up and play, and get treated like kings for a week, and get nike apparel, and get bowl rings dont think its weak. I'm sure the kids that play in any bowl enjoy theirselves, but you dont know much about this if you are calling it weak. It is done pretty right.
Your right, I don't know much about it. BUT, if you present it as this big Texas versus Louisiana then have all of the top players from both states play in it. Come on they play the game at Stallworth. I'm happy for the kids that play in it, but it doesn't grab most peoples attention because it's the leftovers. JMO

Weak game. The best school I seen on there was a couple of players going to U of H. I wouldn't call TX vs. LA game because it's not the best players in the state.
