  1. You are right about Mangan. The kids that I am talking about are much younger and did not play for him. Those are the type kids that the program can't afford to loose.
  2. Kids that would not have moved but for a lack of stability in the program. There are several more contemplating the same thing. Anyway you choose to look at it a very small 3A school can't loose those type athletes.
  3. HF was a football powerhouse during the 70's, 80's and 90's. Nobody anywhere wanted to play them. When Coach Tarver left a few years ago, a proven winning coach (Paul Walker) came in and HF went to the playoffs his first year. Then 21-3A was redistricted and HF found themselves playing schools much bigger. HF's then Supt. (Marianne Condo) did a behind the scenes hatchet job on Paul Walker. She then hired Walt Mangan who only had two years head coaching experience (1-9 and 3-7). She hired this guy totally against the wishes of the community. As a result, Ms. Condo was strongly urged to retire. Keith Elliot became the new Supt. (he is really a good football guy) and tried to clean up the mess by firing Mangan and hiring Coach Don Price. The bottom line is HF is recovering from the damage done by the previous administration. Mr. Elliot has things going in the right direction and HF has some powerhouse teams on their way. Some truly outstanding athletes in the lower grades if we can just keep the other schools from recruiting them away from us. We have recently lost three All-District caliber athletes to Nederland, Katy and Austin. Kids are working hard and they really respect Coach Price and his staff.
  4. We would like to thank Troy Jones and the other folks from Nederland who hosted this event. It was a pleasure meeting and competing with everybody. There was a lot of really good talent from all teams and we certainly appreciate the invitation. We look forward to participating with ya'll in the future. Hamshire-Fannett  MS 7 on 7
  5. Hamshire Fannett 7th grade (8th graders for next year) are in. Any coaches that would like to arrange scrimmages, we are ready. You can contact us at 409-782-0789.
  6. Hamshire-Fannett will have a team this year and we would like to play. Our group is currently 7th graders who will be in 8th next year.
  7. I think a good model would be Jasper. Their Jr high kids are incredible. They have implemented a good off-season program with them and the results show. Again, we have to have confidence that a head coach/AD will implement a good program from the ground up and we must support it. Up until this point we have not had confidence in the leadership which has caused the program to fail. We MUST work together.
  8. All I am saying is that if we, the community, want a successfull program, we have to start finding reasons to say "yes" instead of "no". That starts with the hiring of a good, qualified coach followed by support from the community and administration. Players and parents must buy in to that program and do whatever necessary to support it. I saw this happen at PN-G with Doug Ethridge, at Westbrook with Alex Durley and at Thomas Jefferson with Coach Thompson. Working together as a community to achieve a goal is a great thing.
  9. Well anyway, the name of HF's new guy is supposed to be released today. I know that several of our younger athletes future with HF hinges on this decision. Will they stay or will they go? I sure hope our Supt gets this right. Whoever is chosen may God bless him. He's going to need it.
  10. Had an HF coach tell me yesterday that he had recently received several notes from Jr. high parents telling him that they didn't want their kid lifting weights because "they felt" like it would adversely effect them in baseball and basketball. Keep in mind that the Jr. high just started a new weight program about a month ago. This is HF's problem. Any positive step in the right direction is met with adversity. As long as these parents know more than the coaches this program doesn't have a prayer.
  11. The advantage in hiring either Mahaffey or Tilton is that they cannot be lied to by the school board or administration like the previous two AD's were. They know the situation and are going in with their eyes wide open. Unlike all of these other unsuspecting applicants.
  12. Many mothers out there have a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other and believe that they can coach better than the coach. Parents who refuse to allow their kid to be disciplined or put through a little hard work coupled with an incompetent school board make that district a disaster in the making. All of those coaches that applied should seriously reconsider.
  13. Congrats to the 13U Premier Gladiators. They won the Nations Super Regionals tournament in Houston this weekend. Great pitching from Logan Ashworth (No hit the Banditos), Devon Roedahl and Jordan foreman (beat the Avengers) and Ky Walker threw a shut out against the Legends in the championship. Hitting was lead by Braden Comeaux. Great job to all.
  14. Whoever they choose will receive three great evaluations and get fired just like the previous AD's.
