*Nederland 0 Dayton 63 FINAL/COMMENTS*
MikeEast replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Although Daytons offense looked good, Nederlands defense helped to make them look better than they were, a WHOLE LOT better than they were. Again, not taking anything away from Dayton offense. I would say had Nederlands defense played all out they would have still scored 28-35 on them. It was the Dayton defense that was again impressive. They smartly totally ignored the run and put 7-8 defensive backs out there all night. Cardenas, Broussard and Brady were all double or triple covered on every snap and they played them tight. They only rushed 3 often and still won the battle at the line, The thing is, Daytons defense plays all out. They play to win, take no prisoners and they are not afraid of losing or getting beaten. Without an alternative plan to make any serious effort to run the ball at least a little, Nederlands offense never had a chance. It just goes to show that if you want to play seriously competitive football you have to have balance and more importantly you have to have that level of defense. I would say that Dayton will go to the playoffs and they will do ok. I would not judge their offense by this game, I think they are probably about as good as PNG's offense, but their defense is on a different level than anything in 22-4a. No one else even comes close. Not PNG, not Lumberton, no one. They reminded me a lot of the old WOS defenses, but better. -

Tonite was a first in several ways for a Neumann team. I have NEVER seen a Neumann team quit before. -

I am dead serious as a heart attack. I am in shock. Again no disrespect to Dayton whatsoever, they have a really great team. But collectively it appeared that the Dogs laid down before the first quarter was over. Im not being emotional. I am really serious. Once they got down 14-0, they may have just as well forfeited. -

Dayton has a great defense I mean really great, that was obvious. Just like last year, they are quick, they get to the ball fast, they dont miss tackles, ever. They have excellent defensive coaches. Good for you dayton! 8) I am going to try to hold my tongue other than that. Dont get me wrong, I can handle losing to Dayton. Dayton is a very good team. But I saw something I have never seen a Neumann team do before tonight, not even in their worst losses in the Neumann era. I have never seen them blatently collectively submit to another team, coaches and all, and quit. Not at all, much less before the first quarter was over. Not until tonight. I am sure they had good reason, I had just never witnessed it before. Now I have. PNG, Lumberton and Dayton, go get em! Represent 22-4A well you are the 3 deserving teams. -
Dayton at Nederland Predictions/BIG SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK!

Trust me, no one in Nederland is seriously underestimating Dayton. Everyone knows its going to be a tough game. -
POLL: Port Neches-Groves vs Beaumont Central
MikeEast replied to PNG1992's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This one worries me a little. PNG should win the game, SHOULD win the game. But Central is a LOT more explosive than Vidor is and PNG showed that they can have a bad game when they feel that its not a do or die situation. I hope that PNG goes in with the attitude that this game is a MUST win for them so that they dont have to try to secure a playoff spot against Dayton. If they go into this game like they did against Vidor, they may be playing catch up in the second half. -
Too close to call. It could go either way. Daytons offense has struggled against good defenses and Nederlands defense had had problems stopping decent offenses. He who want it worst will win.
-
You are correct. We beat Dayton and the Dogs and Lumberton are in as long as PNG beats Central.

The 32 Different Scenarios for 22-4A
MikeEast replied to WOS87's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Again the simplest possible solution for all 4 teams.... Win out and you are in the playoffs. -
Sure they CAN, but you could just as easily turn the question around and ask the same of Lumberton. Nederland is a very good football team, they have one of the best teams they have ever had, they are for all intents and purposes 100% healthy and have experienced coaches that know how to win big games. It's funny that the loss to PNG causes all these questions about the Dogs, just like it happened when Dayton lost to Lumberton, lol. The Dogs are just as good as they were before the loss to PNG and they are just as good as they would have been with Sampere. Sampere did not play defense and that is where the Dogs need to most work. The offense is scoring plenty of points, more than enough to win out, but the defense is giving away points. If they can stop the cheap TD's they can win State, much less get into the playoffs. CAN they win theses games??? Absolutely without any question whatsoever. Will they win, I dunno. They are no more or less likely to win than Dayton and Lumberton are over the next 2 weeks. Its going to be a photo finish.

Karma, what a joke!! LOL

It is. Anyone with 200 posts can applaud or smite you so its totally subjective. Even if you are the most positive poster here if you have people that dont like you they can smite you. Although I really try to be positive and constructive I am shocked I am above zero. -
Dayton at Nederland Predictions/BIG SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK!
MikeEast replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I thought after the play I saw Monte tell him to go sit down. He was frustrated and threw his helmet and it bounced down the players bench. For a minute I thought that he was ejected but I dont think he was. There is no question that he did not do anything to warrant an ejection, but the LCM kid threw a punch. I dont have a problem with a NEderland kid getting ejected but that time I really did not see him do anything over the top. -

If you sit up high near the 50, I saw you. There was only one person here and there. I think getting everyone to "bounce" is going to be very cool if they can ever get everyone on board. Hopefully by the playoffs everyone will catch on and know what they need to do. If they ever do I am afraid we might collapse the bleachers. ;D It would be quite a sight to see from the opposite side. I think everyone is too embarassed to be doing it alone, but again if we can get it started it will be awesome and should get everyone riled up. -

All smack talk aside, this is going to be a great game to watch. Should be one of those games where you go back and forth between sheer bliss and suicidal several times in 2 hours. ;D -
;D It really is simple UNLESS PNG loses to Central. That is the only thing that could complicate it. If PNG wins, then the winners play and the losers stay home and take the winners girlfriends out to dinner while they are playing. ;D

If Lumberton makes it to the post season
MikeEast replied to bhawk's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I dont see any reason why any of our top teams would not win the first gameand even the second. To be honest though I do not see a team in 22-4A that is ready to make a deep run this season yet. If this is as good as they get they will not get out of Region 3, that includes all of us. Don't get me wrong these teams are good, but you have to be on another level to really get deep and getting out of Region 3 is a tremendously difficult task. The only teams to do it in the last decade were Nederland, PNG and WOS and only once each at that. There are some GOOD teams out there that have 11 players on defense that are as fast as the fastest players we have in 22-4A. It can be done, but you are going to have to be perfect because teams like LaMarque, Jacksonville, Texas City, Bay City, Brenham, Waller, Friendswood, Killien Harker Heights just to mention a few. Those guys walk the talk for real and to beat them you have to play perfect. -
I like your scenario the best AG, but this thread is about the possibilites. 8) Really the only major kink would be for PNG to lose to Central. As long as that does not happen, it should not come down to points and head to heads should decide it all.
-
Wait a minute, I have to think about that a little. ??? Hmmm after a little thought, I think you are right Penny. I missed that. Interesting. 8)
-
Lets make this real simple for EVERYONE. If Nederland wins this week,,, Nederland, PNG and Lumberton are going to the playoffs. If Dayton wins this week, Dayton and PNG are in and the winner of the Nederland/Lumberton game is in. Even if Lumberton lost to LCM, which wont happen, the scenarios would not change. Thats all there is to it, cut and dried. BUT!!!! IF PNG loses next week, and Dayton wins out ( that means they beat PNG) then Lumberton wins out,,, then PNG, Dayton and Lumberton would be in PNG 2 losses Dayton 1 loss Lumberton 1 loss Lumberton would be district Champs! Nederland cannot win the DC because for us to get in PNG has to get in too. The best we can do is 2nd place. 8)
-
Next week, If Nederland wins and Lumberton wins they are in period, as will be PNG. Nothing else will matter except determining placement. In that scenario even if Dayton beats PNG, Dayton is out because they are tied with 2 losses with the loser of the Nederland/Lumberton game. And the loser of the Nederland/Lumberton game is STILL in by virtue of the head up against Dayton. Of course that is JUST saying that is the case IF Nederland were to win against Dayton. Things will get really simple if it happens that way. Its still pretty simple even in Dayton wins. Dayton is in, PNG is in and the winner of the Lumberton/Nederland game is in. There is pretty much no scenario where points will matter this year.
-
If we win against Dayton then we go into week 10 with 1 loss, and assuming Lumberton wins they go into week 10 with 1 loss. Dayton would have 2 losses going into week 10. That would also mean that Dayton had lost head up to Nederland AND Lumberton. Dayton is STILL OUT even if they beat PNG. That so because they have losses to the teams that they have the same record as... To expand.... (If they beat PNG) Dayton has only 2 losses but in thos scenario lost the head to head with Nederland and Lumberton so Dayton is OUT by head to head. Lumberton and Nederland are IN and the game between the two is for 2nd and 3rd place. Right?

22-4A will end in a coin flip
MikeEast replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The "L-Train",,, is not in the same boat as PNG, your posts sounds like you are arm in arm with PNG. PNG is undefeated. By record you are equal with Dayton and Nederland, by head to head you are equal with Nederland and still have a couple of more games to prove you deserve to be in the playoffs. You may or may not, time will tell. Right now there are 3 good teams that have all expectations of getting those last 2 spots and rightfully so. -
Dayton at Nederland Predictions/BIG SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK!
MikeEast replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ya know, I think that our running game is going to be the X factor. Just a hunch. As good as our pass offense is, I think it could be a long night if we come out one dimensional. The Dogs are going to have to keep their defense honest. If we do like we have been and just come out with an all out passing attack I think its going to be tough to win. The other key is OUR defense. We know there defense is good and the points are going to be hard earned. From what I see Daytons offense is just "ok" and whether or not we can avoid missed tackles and busted plays for 50 yard TD's is going to be the key. It reminds me of the games we had against WOS where we either killed them or frustratingly lost in a low scoring game where the WOS defense was stiff and we moved the ball but could not cash in. I hate losing those sort of games and that is exactly the game that I suspect Dayton is going to want to play. Another key is going to be ravenous intensity by the defense. I still say that collectively they are too nice and it takes them 3 quarters to get fired up and focused. They need to come out agressive, focused and with the intentions of being PERFECT. They have the ability and the talent, they just need to stop jacking around and do it. A little crowd involvement would not hurt either. Last night the stands were half empty and even quieter than normal. Stephan Huber and a few of his friends on a couple of occasions was BEGGING the crowd to get behind them and make some noise. Everyone but just a very few just sat and looked at him. I was ashamed. Even on a bad night we were a borderline obnoxious crowd 5-6 years ago and it was GREAT. I sure miss those days and I think our kids do too. Well, I dont even think they know what its like to have 5000 barking and screaming Bulldogs behind them yelling to the point of passing out and losing their voice. They have not ever really seen what it used to be like. -
I think its pretty cool that the chips fell so that the top 4 teams meet up in the last 2 weeks of the season with Lumberton being a surprise force to be reckoned with. This is a HUGE week. IF I See it right, If Nederland wins they are in and Lumberton is in. The last week will be for placement only. If Dayton wins then Ned/Lumberton will have to duke it out for the 3rd spot. If PNG loses AND Dayton wins then the PNG Dayton game would be for the DC.. How fun is that?
