1.

How the heck did this happen GCM fans? Turnovers seemed to be the culprit.  Maybe some long punt returns? Looking at the stats in the Chronicle, very surprising to see this score when GCM put up more yards of offense than Nederland. Did Durden play?  I didn't see his name show up in the stats.
Look at the first downs though. It was 15 to 5 and could have been worse. I have three reasons for the skewed yardage. There are others but the main three in my opinion. 1. Nederland worked with a short field. For the second week in a row their defense gave the offense great field position and they didn't need to drive 80 yards for a score. 2. Nederland pulled the main starters out at 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter. 3. GCM had a 59 yard gain on the last play of the game. All those add up to it appearing in the stats (except first downs) that GCM won or played a close game. Obviously the score and yardage could have been worse if Nederland had kept the starters in but what it the point? Most teams let the backup players come in when a game gets out of hand and so it was with this game. GCM didn't look so bad as much as just the wheels came off. If it could go wrong, it did. Like one instance where they had one great play set up with a fake pass, a fake draw and then a toss over the middle. The play was run what appeared to be perfectly and the pass was dead on the money to a wide open receiver that would have gone a long way...... but the receiver dropped the pass. It was just one of those nights.
The 2 previous posts by Razor and tvc sum up the stat situation perfectly. GCM had a 74 yard "QB sneak" toward the final 2 minutes of the 1st half. It was their only real success against the first string D. Prior to that, they had one nice drive from their 30 to our 30 that resulted in a 70 yard pick 6 to give Ned a 14-0 lead. I wouldn't read anything into the stats on this one. The starters were pulled with 5:47 left in the 3rd quarter when we led 45-7. The Patriots scored on a long run on the first series against the 2nd teamers and scored a 60 yard TD on the game's final play.I think the GCM fans will tell you that Nederland is as advertised on Defense and VERY underrated on offense. Great team win against a talented team. Next week will be a MAJOR test! Angleton is REAL good from what I have heard. P.S-- I do not think either of Nederland's first two opponents were weak. I would be surprised if either doesn't make the playoffs. I would say s game between Goose Creek and Crosby would be a high scoring toss up. Crosby has the better defense and GCM has the better O-line. Anyone disagree?
2. I will say Nederland wins 17-13. I remember the GCM QB from last season being a good runner and had some speed. They have a couple of good backs as well. I think Big Ned will get the W, but I doubt it will be a blowout. I hope it is a blowout though!
3. Not sure how big of an upset either of these would be, but I will take: Central over West Brook Hamshire Fannett over Anahuac
4. 24 yards allowed is impressive no matter how bad the competition. Both teams had a great defensive performance. Good job 20-4A!
5. I think you will go 0-3 on these...
PNG against WOS GCM against Ned. Ozen against Memorial. Just to name a few.
6. Like I said, I wasn't there. Thanks for the info. I did go to the 1st scrimmage though.
7. Did you say the Dayton freshmen scored 14 TDs to Nederlands 4 TDs? I sure hope that is a typo for our sake..
8. I am more concerned about the offense than the defense. WOS scored only 1 TD on the defense and that was on about a 10 yard pass that ended up going for 50 after some nice moves and some missed tackles. The other TD was on an INT return by WOS defense. I did not see the game tonight, but it sounds like the Dayton speed gave us fits in 1st quarter. A big run by Dayton for a quick TD and a quick INT put us in a 14-0 hole 3 minutes in. 24-7 at the end of 1q and it sounds like adjustments were made. Dayton scored with 15 seconds left in the game for their final score I was told. I think the defense will be fine, but we have to get some continuity on offense especially in the run game.
9. I wish I was your bookie... Nederland "lost" a scrimmage to Hardin Jefferson once. The bridge jumpers wrote that season off.. The result a state semi-final loss to Smithson Valley. Both defenses looked great tonight. Neither offense looked sharp. WOS made a few more plays on offense. Nederland had a lot of dropped passes. The defense will keep Nederland in games until the offense starts to click. There is talent there. Once the offensive line settles in, it will be business as usual for the Nederland offense. Mark my words. The pups aren't very good and WOS proved that tonight
how can you say that after a practice?
Cause i watched the game and they aren't that good. Now go to bed before I get Griff on you
10. If the PA News is accurate, then it is a 4 quarter game-type scrimmage without kickoffs. Should be fun to watch! Two good teams knocking the snot outta each other!
11. Excellent! It is a 4 quarter scrimmage. I am very surprised!
12. Thru the years Nederland has usually played a controlled portion to start and then one half maximum in the first scrimmage. I have seen them look really good and really bad in scrimmages in past years so I don't put much stock in them. I am going tomorrow night and would LOVE to see a 4 quarter game, but I am betting that won't happen in the first scrimmage. Nederland usually does that in the 2nd scrimmage and probably will against Dayton.
13. When and where will the Friday game take place?

Weren't they the #1 seed from 19-4a and got to play the #4 seed from 20-4a? How did that turn out? Just stirring the pot a little bit. Should be a great ball game tonight!
Just rember the BH/Ned Football game  ;) hope your field goal kicker is batting clean up ;D
Touché! But our FG kicker had just as many hits against Brown as the entire BH team did in last years playoff game! And a lot less strikeouts!

16. Dickie, Nederland split with Ozen and Central and looks as though they will finish atop the district tied with Central and a game ahead of your Panthers. If they are so bad, then what does that say about Ozen who finished second behind them?
17. Good job, Lazeek! Lil zekey will never forget it. My dad took me to Vegas many moons ago to see LU face top 25 UNLV and JR Rider. I will never forget it. Mike Newell was coach and I think we lost 100-75, but it was lots of fun at the Thomas and Mack center seeing the Shark!
18. LU is on a roll after winning at Rice. LU by 4 tonight! Just kidding. Hopefully, we can keep it respectable against a top 5 opponent. Nicholls lost by 50 at UNC last night... I think if we can stay within 20 then it would be a decent showing.
19. Great job, Panthers! You guys should be atop the district next year along with the Bulldogs and Pirates. Should be a great race!
20. I was very impressed with the skill position players for Dawson on offense and their overall team speed. They can hit for a big play at anytime. The QB has great touch on the deep ball and some great targets. On defense, I was also impressed with Jeffires #24 at the corner position. He and Kimler had a great battle all night. I think the game vs Angleton will be a shootout. I was not overly impressed with the D and Angleton is potent on offense. I think the better team won, but I thought Ned played really well and with any breaks could have won the game. Dawson was the best team Ned faced this year. Good luck next week.
21. Very proud of this group of Dogs! Great job and great game last night. We went toe to toe with an outstanding Dawson team. I loved our aggressiveness on offense all night. Even when we came up short on the 4th down on our own 20 it showed them we meant business tonight! Defense stiffened up and stopped them on the 1 for no points. Only call I did not like was the fake punt in a 2 point game. That play never seems to work. Overall, a great team effort and a great ride! Ready for next year!
22. Miles had 31 pts and 8 assists! LU had only 7 turnovers for the game!
