2.
Since my kid goes to LCM, I don't have a dog in this hunt... But... It's a tough decision for a coach to make.  Do you put a kid in as QB who has a lot of athletic talent, but struggles with interacting with his team mates, or do you put the kid in who might not have as much talent, but has the ability to work with the others?  Plain and simple, football is not a popularity contest.  A coach has to evaluate the tangibles and intangibles and decide who will be best for the TEAM.  That the "field general" might not be a popular choice shouldn't matter to kids who are team players.  The fact that Coach Neumann had the new QB talk to his team mates and iron things out, shows that coach recognized that there were issues.  That the majority of the team stood behind their QB, even the kid being replaced, after this, shows that the majority of the team play for the sake of the team.  That does not bode ill for Nederland.  They know they have to work at it.  Once you identify an issue, you work to remedy the issue and play ball.  As for the kid who left...hey, you knew what the consequences were before you walked out of the locker room.  I can understand leaving on principle, but to go to the rival across the way shows that principle only goes so far...
Excellent post, elhector! Very good points that you make. I wonder how the lineman that quit would feel if he had gotten injured and had a guy fill in for him, then come back to be re-inserted into the lineup and have a kid at a totally different position tell him that his backup was better and he should not get to play? It's almost an unwritten rule in sports that you do not lose your starting position due to injury. Look at the Eagles currently. Andy Reid is sticking with his starter.
3.
Jake, The primary reason I said that Nederland's chances have dropped dramatically is due to the recent news article and developments on the team.  There appears to be dissention on the team and that is a huge distraction. Team harmony and chemistry is very important, and it does not look like Nederland has that at the moment.  Also, one of their top linemen, and who is also one of the team leaders, left the team and the school, and went to PNG.  Will the players rally around Coach Neuman and Forney as the QB?  That is the reason why I say that their chances of contending for the district title has dropped dramatically. However, if you read one of my other previous posts, I said that Neuman can turn this around and quell some of the anxiety with a win, and they are playing Vidor.  Playing at Vidor might be a blessing in disguise for the team, because they might not have as many fans at the game as they would if they were playing at home, and they can focus more on the game.  A win will do wonders, and a strong performance would be icing on the cake.  This could be the turning point for Nederland and a win would give them momentum and confidence.  But, that remains to be seen.  A loss, and the storm would surely intensify.
Fair enough. Thanks for the response. Makes sense. I have known about the lineman quitting for several days and thought it was going to be kept quiet. I did not know that he had transferred to PN-G and I am guessing that is why the news came out. If he is allowed to play, then I think it is an absolutley ridiculous ruling. Also, Nederland is still not at full strength like I thought they might be this week. Trevin Sonnier will be held out once again. This is a big injury for the Dogs.
4. If the UIL lets this kid play at PN-G, then there is going to be an uproar. He QUIT, period, end of sentence. Then he decides to transfer to the rival school? Are you kidding me? There are always a few players on each team who do not like or care for each other, but you learn to play as a TEAM and support your COACHES decisions.
5.
BMTSoulja1, yes, I have to go with PNG, even though they have a losing record.  Look at the teams that they played, and both of those games were very close.  Since District play starts this week, I think that everyone is a contender, probably with the exception of Vidor, and Nederland's chances have dropped dramatically. Livingston - I don't know anything about them.  I will pick them as the dark horse to make the playoffs. Vidor - just don't think that they have the athletes this year to compete for the title or even a playoff spot. Nederland - internal turmoil and QB issues.  Big question marks. LCM and Lumberton - both have looked pretty good, and warrant consideration as a legitimate title contender, and definitely contenders for a playoff spot. Ozen and Central - it's hard to gauge either team with their losses to WB and PAM, and their wins against weaker Houston teams.  Both have the athletes to compete for the title, and both have the athletes to make the playoffs. PNG - reigning champs.  Despite their two close losses, they are a well coached team, and have the athletes to git'r done. In my opinion, PNG is the favorite to win District 20-4A.  I could be proven wrong.
Why have Nederland's chances dropped dramatically? Is it because they are now healthy for the first time this season? How do you feel the teams you have above them would have done without their starting QB if they had to start a soph at QB who had never played varsity before? WO-S was just better than Ned. Ned's win against Goose Creek was against a rebuilding team. The Barbers Hill game was a loss and a good game. Nederland was without the QB and top 2 WR in that game as well. I am not saying that Nederland is a district champ favorite or anything, but to say their chances have dropped dramatically does not make sense to me. The top lineup has not even been on the field yet...

7. Unreal. I cannot believe this. I watched this guy a few weeks ago play a great game and display great sportsmanship all night long. Prayers go out to the entire WO-S family.
8. While I do feel that Carson will be a really good QB in the future for the Dogs, the fact is he has only had 1 really good quarter. I do not think there is going to be a QB controversey when Forney gets back. A kid should not lose his starting spot due to injury in my opinion. Dionte is our starting QB in my opinion.
9. Define what certain changes you are talking about instead of beating around the bush...
10. I don't see a blowout here. Vidor always brings it when they play Nederland. Very winnable game for the Dogs, but certainly should not look past anyone in this district! Game is in Vidor which always makes for a great atmosphere. Should be a good ballgame.
11. A lot of guys getting some valuable experience in these pre-district games. Excited to see the Nederland offense at full strength in a few weeks. Forney will really ignite the passing game and having Salenga and Sonnier back will be huge for the offense. I was impressed with Cunningham, Schlett, and Butler last night and Raines played awesome in the 4th quarter. Once they are healthy, this should be a very solid offense.
12. I think tonight is the night that we will see Carson Raines mature. I think BH will put an extra defender in the box and force us to throw the ball. With 2 games under his belt, I think Carson is going to take the next step to becomming a good passing QB. Just a feeling. If the Dogs develop a solid passing game to go with the several good running backs then the offense could be really good. Passing game will be there when Dionte gets back, but I think we can throw it with Carson as well.

14. Margaritas & Peppers on Loop 336 just off of 105. Also on Loop 336 is another Mexican restaurant called Margaritas. Both are very good.
15. I think this will be a good ballgame. BH will probably play better at home than they have on the road. Nederland looked good running the ball last week with the two new runningbacks, but are still banged up at several positions. The defense has improved, but still gives up the occasional big play. The passing game has been non-existent so far for the Dogs and that is a big concern. I think it will be a good one, but if the Dogs defense can slow down the BH running attack they should be okay.
16.

I'm sure they've just been duckin you.
They have no time to duck us when they spend all their time whipping your team.
Kinda of like this? 1988 wo-s 51 png 0 1990 wos  35 png 14 1991 wos 35 png 16 1993 wos 42 png 10 1997 wos 25 png 0 2001 wos 28 png 0 We've taken some whippings from them but don't act like you haven't :)
And we were all 4A also except maybe one year out of those. Fact is Nederland is close to done. The program is in decline and kids are not showing up to play as they were in the past. Good luck when you can barely suit up 40 kids for a good size 4A squad. Neumann should have left when he had the chance.
Are you serious? First in line to hire him when "he had the chance" would have been you guys as his record against PN-G was(and still is) very good. Nederland's numbers are down year over year for the last few, but they are still making the playoffs with 4th string QBs. WO-S is a VERY GOOD team and at this point in the season I am not sure that having 20 extra guys standing on the sidelines would help. Fact is Hooks has them in very good shape early each year and I think they would have beaten PN-G as well. All week it was predcitions on the message board of PN-G by 3 or 4 TDs and after the game all of a sudden G-P was now a POWERHOUSE.  If they were a powerhouse, then why all of the 3-4 TD prediction wins on your messageboard? Get real. Great season last year. 10-0 is great. It's a new year and last season does not do anything for anyone. Lots to be proven by all area teams.
17. Houston Texans, no contest!  ;D
18. I think the coach made the right call. Since when is a 38 yard FG a SURE THING in high school football? I would venture to guess that the success rate of a 38 yard FG in high school would be less than 50% and far less than the team's chance of gaining ½ a yard on 4th down. Anyone disagree? Faircloth is a great coach and I am sure he knows his kicker's capabilities much better than all the armchair QBs. Even if the FG was good, the game would not have been over.
19. Taylor has a great leg, no doubt about that. In the coach's defense though, Lamar's starting kicker was an All State kicker from a high school near Dallas.
20. I think this will be a good game too. I am excited to see Raines progress as the season moves on. Goose Creek is getting back two running backs this week that did not play against LC-M last week so it will be interesting to see what impact those guys have as well. I think the Dogs will be solid on both sides of the ball this week and win the game at home. Should be a good ballgame in my opinion.
21. Congrats WO-S on a strong showing. I was impressed with the Mustangs overall team speed. Roberts is a stud at WR and the QB Garrett and bevy of runningbacks were too much for the Dogs defense. Kicking game and kickoff coverage were the only areas in which WO-S did not excel. I think the Mustangs will have a very good season and good luck the rest of the way. As for my Dogs.. Lots to work on. I still hate the spread offense for us. We lost our edge several years back when we switched to it and never got it back. We went from being 1st or 2nd each yr in district to hoping for the 4th spot each year since the change. I think the soph QB will improve as the season goes on. I wish they would have let him throw downfield more. I do like him running the ball and as he gets used to the speed of the game I think he will be a solid QB throwing as well. The Dogs looked great on kickoff returns and kickoff coverage as well. We did not look all that great fielding punts though. Kemp and Benjamin looked good at times running the ball. Sonnier is fun to watch in the Wildcat. Defense played well in spots but got burnt by missed tackles, big plays for TDs and 3rd down conversions. Overall, Nederland looks bigger this season on both lines and has more team speed than last year I think. WO-S was clearly the better team, but I think the Dogs will improve throughout the season and be in the thick of the playoff race.
22. i wish i was your bookie
23. Sounds as though you guys have another great team. Good luck this season. I did not get to make it to the scrimmage tonight.. My question is after seeing Nederland and WO-S the last two weeks, what is your prediction?
24. I think Dayton is a big favorite going in. I think they have a really good team this season as they have in the last several years. Hopefully the Dogs can put forth a good showing. I was surprised how easily Dayton handled WO-S which kinda scares me for our chances tonight.
25. No, Bear... Kemp started in the secondary last 2 years for the dogs. I am not familiar with Troy or Hopkins. Excited to see all 3 play.
