  1. With the expected rain and the wet field, give me the team that likes to run the ball and runs it pretty well. I think this will be a close ball game. TC 21 PNG 20
  2. Best thing to drink the day before and day of the game is this.. SUPER POWER PUNCH PLUS from SMOOTHIE KING. Order it with extra electrolytes. When you get done with it, drink water the rest of the day. You won't be sorry!
  3. As a Ned fan, I think it is pretty obvious that WO-S had a significant speed edge against us this season. They always do. I think the question mark for the Dogs this season is: "Who is going to step up and be the big play guy?" In the past we have had Cardenas, Grogan, Butler, Moseley, Askew, Yoder, Sumrall, etc, etc, etc. It remains to be seen whether we have a big play guy or not. WO-S was clearly the better team two weeks ago. I agree the 7 turnovers did not help, but you gotta hand it to the WO-S defense for being in the right places at the right times. In my opinion, there were 3 plays that really turned the game from being a close one to a losided Stangs win. They were: 1. The muffed punt at the WO-S 35 when Ned was down 12-7(or maybe 13-7?) 2. WO-S TD on the deflected pass on 4th down and long right before halftime(I think it was a 5-point game at that point) 3. The injury to Bellow at the start of the 4th with Ned driving down by 12. These are not excuses. WO-S was the better team and much faster team. They were in the right places at the right times and turnovers are part of the game. Every game has game-changing plays and these were them in my opinion from a Ned standpoint. Ned will be okay once the QB settles in. He will be fine. He has a host of good WR's. Just not sure we ahve the home run hitter we are accustomed to. I hope I am wrong. The defense looks like it hits harder, but we still aren't wrapping up. Big improvement over last year though. I think we will battle for the 3rd or 4th spot. It's gonna be a tough district.
  4. Tyler Smith would have been a starter for the majority of the teams in this area. Nederland will be just fine with him at the helm!
  5. He will be a fine QB for us. He came in last year when Kirby got hurt and led us to a 2nd half playoff victory against CE King. There was talk in the offseason(albeit probably rumor) that he would start at QB while Kirby would move to WR. That never happened though. I think he will be a good one. He should be really good his senior year after gaining some valuable experience this season. It is so ironic that this happened. It is like dejavu from 2 years ago. Good luck in you rehab, Kirby. You will be a force in baseball when you come back.
  6. My thoughts from last night... 1. The defense is improved in my opinion. We do hit hard, but still do not always wrap up. I was most impressed on defense by #24 Holden Butler. He was all over the place. We need to be more alert on fumbles and tipped balls. 2. Hopefully it was because WO-S has great speed and a solid 2ndary, but it appeared to me that we lack a "big play" WR like we have been accustomed to in the past.. i.e. Cardenas, Butler, Atterberry, Askew, Yoder etc. Unless I missed something, Salenga was the only WR to catch a pass all night. I would like to see us throw the ball up high to Forney and let him go get it. 3. I thought the running backs looked fine, but I am not sure we have a home run threat back there. I did, however, think all of our backs ran hard all night last night. Lovelady and Cardenas have a nose for the goalline. 4. Hopefully Kirby is okay. He got off to a slow start and we got in a hole, but once he settled down he looked good. Tyler Smith will be fine once he gets reps with the first team. I think he will be a very capable backup. Tough position to be put in last night. 5. WO-S is a good ballclub and deserved the win. Nederland did not catch many breaks last night. Game was close for the most part and got a little out of hand very late in the game. WO-S did, however, dominate in the stats. Bottom line is you can't turn the ball over 7 times against a great team and expect to win. I think both teams will improve thru the season. I think Nederland will battle for 3rd or 4th in district while WO-S should win theirs and hopefully make a playoff run.
  7. Dang...WOS is rolling over Nederland...wonder if this is a sign for tomorrow nite? I heard we were just gonna forfeit since our JV lost. :
  8. I hate to hear when things like this happen. May God be with his family and friends.
  9. Amen. This will be a hard fought ballgame! These two teams love competing against each other as do the coaches. Both teams are a little banged up and that's part of the game. Should be a good one. How ya been Gas?
  10. I think you guys are overreacting to a scrimmage. I am a Nederland fan, and I still believe we are the underdogs in this ballgame. I think it will be a good one, but we will have a lot of trouble with the WO-S speed. I hope the Dogs come away with the win, but it will be a tough task come Friday!
  11. I know the popular thing for biased fans to say at a scrimmage is "they only scored when our 2nd team was in." We hear it every year and then someone comes from the other team and says "it was starters or it was a mix of starters and bacukups, etc." Well here's my take on what I saw and I am not a fan of either team. Memorial and PN-G first teams each got 12 plays to start. Neither team did much with their plays. 0-0 tie after 12 plays each. PN-G 2nd team then got 12 plays on offense and did not move the ball one bit. Memorial put in their backups and scored twice in 12 plays. #24 the RB and #16 the QB were both very impressive and should get some playing time this season. #24 looked to me like the fastest kid on the field all night. The teams then played a 3 quarter scrimmage. PN-G scored on its first two drives in the 1st quarter. Doty was impressive throwing the ball mostly to Segura and DeRon. Harmon ran the ball well too. The Indians jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Memorial countered with a 70 yard TD drive to cut it to 14-7. Memorial defense tightened up a bit the next two series. Memorial next had an impressive drive that got down to the 7 yard line and here is where the momentum turned in my opinion. On 1st and goal the Titans got inside the 5 on a run but it was called back for holding(good call). On the next play, the QB rolled out had an open WR in end zone, the PN-G defensive back closed well bumped into the WR right before the ball got there and intercepted it. It was a very close call, but turned the momentum. PN-G then went 70 yards for a nice TD and a 21-7. Memorial drove at end of half and got a FG. 21-10. I will attest that the 3rd quarter was backups and again Memorial's backups are far superior. It was mostly #16 and #24 again. Memorial scored easily to cut it to 21-17. PN-G did not move ball at all with 2nd team. Clock was continuously running and time ran at as Memorial had the ball in their own territory at end. All and all I thought both teams looked good for a 1st scrimmage. Both have a good shot at playoffs in my opinion.
  12. I remember several years back the year that Nederland made it to the semis. We played Hardin Jefferson in a scrimmage and I am pretty sure that they beat us. I think they went like 3-7 that year in 3A and we went to the 4A state semis. I remember thinking after that scrimmage how bad we were gonna be that year. Boy was I wrong!
  13. I remember that! That was definitely original. I did not remember exactly what year it was, thanks for bringing it up. Didn't they run thru the PN-G sign and then circle back and run thru the Ned sign as well?
  14. Will this also tell me who to bet on it the 7th race at Delta? Just kidding, man! I love the cover.
  15. Yes. He started at LB for the Dogs last season and played a lot of RB in the playoffs when Grogan was winded or injured.
  16. I can tell you what we have for sure... A 3rd year starting QB who can sling it, a stable full of good wideouts, and a very capable running back in Grant Lovelady. Outside of that, I am not sure what to expect!
  17. What's the schedule for in the morning? Are they playing Memorial or is it an intra-squad scrimmage? What time does Varsity start? I wanna see the Indians and see what all the fuss is about!
  18. PhatMack-- Here's the Belmont results. 4 SUMMER BIRD 25.80 9.30 4.70 2 DUNKIRK 5.40 3.60 7 MINE THAT BIRD 2.60
  19. He lost 6-4 6-1 to a superchamp 16 that is ranked 37 in the state. His dad said that the kid was good. The kid will plat Tucker in the finals and I think this kid will beat Tucker and win the state title.
  20. Matthew won this morning 6-4 6-4. He plays again at 2:15.
  21. Is that the same Nederland "Pop Warner" offense that hung 42 on PN-G's "Pop Warner" defense? Just kidding. I could not resist. ;D I think the fans on the PN-G board over there are just excited about the changes that are going on at the Reservation and I don't blame them. It will be a lot different from the run, run, pass, punt offense and will make game planning against the Indians much tougher. I think they made a great hire with Faircloth and he has assembled a great staff on paper. I am going to head out to their Spring game and check them out.
  22. Man! Those look like Dave Campo and Dave Wannstedt's stats before they became HEAD coaches. ;D Just kidding! In all seriousness, I think that PN-G made a great hire and if Faircloth and his staff stays they will turn the Indians around rather quickly.
  23. Send him over to Nederland! He would be a great addition to our staff in my opinion.
