  1. Coach is a good friend of mine. I am mainly going by what he was telling me a few weeks ago. He believes top 3 teams are LU/SHSU/UTA in no particular order. UTSA could be in the mix.
  2. The Lions won't be nearly as good this year as last. They graduated quite a bit. At this point, I would say the winner of the UT-A/LU match will have the best shot. LU is not as strong as last season, but they are improving. Injuries have taken a toll and they are really up a creek if they have any more injuries. A walkon has been playing #7(the match does not count in final score) and lost 6-0 6-0 to SFA and 6-0 6-0 to SHSU.
  3. I was at this match and will vouch that y'alls #1 girl is good. She probably is tops in the SLC. But, LU has a red-shirt that spanked her 6-2 6-2 a couple years ago. She is out for the season and received a medical redshirt. She will be a junior next season and should dominate over the next couple of years. Also, I expected SHSU to win the doubles point. That is definitely not LU's strength this season. It was a good match. It ended up being 5-2, but easily could have been 4-3 either way. By the way, LU beat SFA 7-0 today.
  4. Well, I have yet to find a QB that "likes to get hit." Sure, some take hits better than others(i.e. Brad Sullivan, Dustin Long, etc) and some do not take them as well. Either way, Bellow has been a good QB for Nederland for the last 2 years and performed leaps and bounds above what most people thought when Sampere got hurt a few years back. He has been pretty durable as well. I remember him missing a few series of a few games, but to my knowledge he has not missed a start since he took over. At a tough and physical position like QB, I think that says a lot for his toughness. I agree with all of you about "calling kids out" on here being a bad idea. The "overrated(as you put it)" offensive lineman from last season must be doing something right. He got a full ride to Big 12 Baylor. He also showed himself very well last season in all of the camps that he went to and got "Most Outstanding Lineman" in one of them if I am remembering correctly. Bellow has the opportunity to pursue either sport he chooses in college. That says a lot for him right there. He will probably go to a big D-1 as a pitcher.
  5. Shouldn't it be getting close to being Jonathon Miller time? I remember seeing him a couple years ago and coming away VERY impressed. What's the word?
  6. I think when all is said and done that he will still be the QB. Tyler Smith is a very capable replacement and may actually be more accurate if given the chance. It would be interesting to see Kirby at another position, but I think he'll still be the starting varsity QB.
  7. There are lots of leagues. Levels range from 3.0 all the way up to 4.5.
  8. Sam cruises in this game. They are always a good team in the regular season and always very tough at home. They will more than likely flop again early in the Southland tourney though like they usually do. It is too bad that LU most likely will not make the tourney though, because history has shown that ANYTHING can and will happen in the Southland Tourney. I really and truly believe our conference needs to get rid of the conference tourney and reward the bid to the regular season champion. That way, we send the representative that had the most success in the conference. Right now, we reward the team that gets hot for 3 games.
  9. Anyone have up-to-date standings? Is it the top 8 teams overall or divisions come in to play?
  10. Lamar will win this game. We are not playing very well, but Texas St. is a piss poor team. We beat them at their place for crying out loud!
  11. LU needs to take whatever they can get right now! This is a HUGE road win. Fact of the matter is that the Cards are not playing well right now and not finishing games. Winning ugly is much better than losing. SFA might open a can on us in the next game after losing tonight. Hope we are ready.
  12. Actually, they have one senior and I feel he is their best player, Tim Green. You are right though, they are going to be very good the next few years. Perry Clark has some sort of connection in Chicago. They have 6 or 7 players from there!
  13. I think this will be a tough game for the Cards. I think UTA is one of the better teams in the conference and it will be a tough road game to win at their place. With that being said, Lamar has historically played very well on the Stage at Arlington. UTA comes in with a sense of urgency after losing first conference game. UTA 80 Lamar 75 I hope I am wrong though.
  14. I think Ryan Brady will have a big season and become the really good WR that Nederland seems to have year in and year out.
  15. Poor tackling against running teams and poor positioning by our 2ndary vs. passing teams. Also, at times the OC would get away from what was working and try to throw the ball too much rather than using our 240 lb back that was good for 5 ypc or more.
  16. Nederland has Tyler Smith who wil be a junior and probably ready to start now(for most teams), but will probably have one more season as a backup since Bellow will be a 3rd year starter in '09.
  17. I am glad LU did not get him. We don't need any more benchwarmers! ;D
  18. Factor in the altitude as well and I think we are an underdog in that ballgame.
  19. North Texas will fall bigtime after losing to lowly New Orleans last night
  20. Actually, the University of Phoenix is tied to Wall Street. It is owned by a company called Apollo Group. University of Phoenix is the largest online University in the world and has a real campuses as well in several major cities. Not a darn thing wrong with PU. I think they have their name on one of the bowls. I guess the only sponsor not tied to Wall Street. Anyway, don't need a new stadium. Some field turf maybe because the score board is the best(yes I said it) in the Golden Traiangle. Who needs a band when you have that sound system...
  21. This is the same UTEP that LU manhandled by 15 or so in a scrimmage at their place. All it tells me is that Lamar is a better team than Tech as well as UTEP. I think LU has a great shot to extend the homecourt win streak into next season! That would be great!
  22. I do not see a blowout here. Longview will more than likely be the best team that Lake Travis has faced all season long. They have a ton of speed at all positions and are very deep. They have a great running game that can churn out the yards and keep Gilbert off the field if they find success on the ground. I watched them beat Lufkin back during the hurricane IKE evacuation and I came away very impressed. I have never seen Lake Travis and I know that they are good, but let's not forget that Longview was a state semifinalist in 5A last season and their lone loss this season was to a highly ranked 5-A team Allen. This will be a hard fought game. I still think Lake Travis is probably the favorite, but I think it will be very close and it would not shock me if the Lobos won here.
