Dayton and Nederland offense looks like pop warner
jake94 replied to texans's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Is that the same Nederland "Pop Warner" offense that hung 42 on PN-G's "Pop Warner" defense? Just kidding. I could not resist. ;D I think the fans on the PN-G board over there are just excited about the changes that are going on at the Reservation and I don't blame them. It will be a lot different from the run, run, pass, punt offense and will make game planning against the Indians much tougher. I think they made a great hire with Faircloth and he has assembled a great staff on paper. I am going to head out to their Spring game and check them out. -
Man! Those look like Dave Campo and Dave Wannstedt's stats before they became HEAD coaches. ;D Just kidding! In all seriousness, I think that PN-G made a great hire and if Faircloth and his staff stays they will turn the Indians around rather quickly.
-
Send him over to Nederland! He would be a great addition to our staff in my opinion.
-
If it is Nederland duo, then the WR will most likely be Ryan Brady. He is a bigger target and looks faster on the football field as well.

Good effort Matthew. A great high school career, Matthew. Thanks for the show. You can now relax for a little while (athletically) and get ready for the bigger show at SMU. Wishing you the best of everything. It ain't over yet, tigersvoice. First AND Second qualify for STATE! 4 regions, 2 from each, 8 players make state.

I think his name is Tucker. He is from Robinson if I am not mistaken.

Deaver lost in the finals 6-4 6-4. He was down 5-0 in the second and battled back to 5-4. The kid he was playing cramped in the final game and had a long medical timeout at 40-30. After the timeout he won the next point and the match. If Matthew could have won a few more points then he might have had the kid right where he wanted him. I was getting text updates from his dad throughout the match. Sounded like a gutsy comeback.

Deaver won 6-3 6-4 this morning in the semis and will play the finals this afternoon!
-
Deaver had a bye this morning and then won 6-0 6-1. He is in the semis tomorrow morning.

garsnare is correct. Matthew is ranked around 90 in Texas in SuperChamp 18's. I think he will win regionals and state this year in 3A. I hit with him today and he is hitting a lot better in my opinion than he was last year at this time. Great kid. I hope he finally gets that elusive state championship. He has been very close the last two years.

Good Gracious! Who started for SHSU? Must have been TexasTerror! ;D

For every 100k worth of house you have if you live in Nederland, the bond will cost you $490 in taxes. I think it will be a hard sell. -

There is just one team. I am captaining it. We are going to have a one day league(on a Saturday) where the 4.0's who want to play up for practice play us in some matches to get us qualified for sectionals. There will be three teams total, but just one true 4.5 team.
-
It's gonna be a very competitive league. The top 3 teams are Shanks, Wesbrooks, and Cobb. I think the winner will be either Shanks or Wesbrooks. Shanks team seems to have the edge in doubles, but Wesbrooks has some good singles players that do not appear on the roster yet(Guillory and Jones) and a solid doubles player(Joel Barton) who has not yet signed up. Shanks team has Vahid Morris(very good 4.0 doubles) who also does not appear on the roster yet and is in my opinion the best 4.0 in the area when he is on his game. Should be a great league. I give the edge overall to Shanks team if they can muster up a singles win here and there. They will have 3 very good 4.0 doubles lines.
-
Agreed. The top HS singles players and doubles teams would not fare well in adult leagues at 4.0 or higher(other than Deaver). Lain Herr, Sagar Desai, and Grant Lopez(all are good HS players) would do okay in 4.0 sometimes I think, but would probably win less than 50% of the time(especially in doubles). Deaver would dominate in 4.0 and can definitely hold his own in 4.5.
-
Top 4.0's in the area would include in no particular order: Vahid Morris, Kelly Shanks, Matt Minnick, Tim Brewer, Jon Price, Craig Fox, Jon Williams, Joel Barton, Ron Wesbrooks, Chad Guillory, Damon Jones etc.. There are way too many to list and I am sure I left a lot of good ones out. I would say out of that list that Morris and Shanks are the closest to making it to 4.5, but that is a big jump. In terms of talent, I think that Minnick and Price will someday be 4.5's if they keep playing and keep improving.
-
You are definitely right, sportsfan. I play 4.5 and play with Matthew a couple times a week. He fits in 4.5, but I don't know any other high schoolers around here that could compete in 4.5. Most could not even hang in 4.0. The top of the 4.0 division locally has some good players and the league for 4.0's this year is bigger than ever(6 teams).

Congrats on those 9 appearances in the Southland Tourney! : Oh, and also congrats on winning the thing 1 time in those 9 tries! That is a great success rate! Lamar is 1 for 6 with their tries which still isn't good. So, I guess if success is measured by making the SLC then you guys are in a league of your own.
-
SHSU flops AGAIN in the SLC tourney? : Who woulda thunk it?? The reality is, this conference needs to reward the REGULAR SEASON champ the AUTOMATIC bid and do away with this stupid tourney. That way, the conference would consistently be represented by the team that had the best SEASON in conference, not the one that gets hot for a few games. There is not a huge difference from top to bottom in the SLC, but it seems like having the best record should get you more than a 1,2, or 3 seed in a tourney for a shot to get smoked in the NCAA as a 15 or 16.
