Breaking News : New Coach named at Memorial
jake94 replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Actually, the University of Phoenix is tied to Wall Street. It is owned by a company called Apollo Group. University of Phoenix is the largest online University in the world and has a real campuses as well in several major cities. Not a darn thing wrong with PU. I think they have their name on one of the bowls. I guess the only sponsor not tied to Wall Street. Anyway, don't need a new stadium. Some field turf maybe because the score board is the best(yes I said it) in the Golden Traiangle. Who needs a band when you have that sound system... -
This is the same UTEP that LU manhandled by 15 or so in a scrimmage at their place. All it tells me is that Lamar is a better team than Tech as well as UTEP. I think LU has a great shot to extend the homecourt win streak into next season! That would be great!

Lake Travis vs. Longview predicitons
jake94 replied to spinachfarmer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I do not see a blowout here. Longview will more than likely be the best team that Lake Travis has faced all season long. They have a ton of speed at all positions and are very deep. They have a great running game that can churn out the yards and keep Gilbert off the field if they find success on the ground. I watched them beat Lufkin back during the hurricane IKE evacuation and I came away very impressed. I have never seen Lake Travis and I know that they are good, but let's not forget that Longview was a state semifinalist in 5A last season and their lone loss this season was to a highly ranked 5-A team Allen. This will be a hard fought game. I still think Lake Travis is probably the favorite, but I think it will be very close and it would not shock me if the Lobos won here. -
This was a quality win for the Cards. They were a 10-point underdog in this game according to the Vegas casinos!

I don't think PN-G will go after Creduer. It seems to me that most of the fan base is very unhappy with the run, run, run offense and is looking for change. You cannot argue with the success that Creduer has had at Lumberton, but he has had a big O-Line that is physical, several good backs, and a hard hitting and aggressive defense. That sounds to me like the blueprint that Burnett has had in his successful years in the past. Some years you just do not have the personnel to be succesful in that smashmouth type of offense. I think PN-G will hire outside the area and get an established coach to come in and really shake things up, implement a new offense, and change the face of PN-G football. Long gone are the days where you can be one-dimensional and make long playoff runs. You have to be able to run, pass, play some defense, and perform on special teams as well. The well-rounded teams are the ones that take home the state titles year in and year out.

Biggest hit you ever saw in HS football ?
jake94 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It was a huge hit, no doubt. But, it was Askew and not Atterberry if I remember correctly. -
Bellow, Brady trying to be able to return
jake94 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is great news on all fronts. I was already prepared to be without Kirby and Ryan this week. We still might be, but they may have a chance of playing. Great news also that LU is interested in Grogan! I think he would be their top verbal commit thus far in terms of talent and potential. I suspect some pretty good D-1 offers to start coming his way though. -
Tom Halliburton never ceases to amaze me. What is his motive for such an opinionated article when we are talking about a man's livelihood? I can understand the PNG faithful being unhappy with the coach and the season, but this article is extremely unprofessional in my opinion.

Who Will Go Farther in 4A/ Ned, Dayton Or Central?
jake94 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Dayton. If my Dogs are fortunate enough to gut another one out, then we will face a very difficult task against Friendswood more than likely. -
For what it's worth, I am a Nederland fan and was pulling for Lumberton tonight!

Nederland and Magnolia who wins this one?
jake94 replied to TheRef's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I was very impressed with the soph QB Tyler Smith tonight and look forward to watching him next week. Also, I was impressed with Schlett. He made some nice catches. Thanks to the coaches for finally letting Trahan kick deep. Great game by Grogan even with cramps. Also impressed by #22. Who is he?? Looking forward to watching the youngsters again next week! Great fan support for first time this season in my opinion. Team was very fired up and should carryover to next week. Great job, players, fans, and coaches! -

Nederland, CE King studying numbers for playoff matchup

Tom was talking about in DISTRICT games I think. Hanna had one more game non-distrct than Grogan. Both are great backs so it really does not matter. -

What will be the keys to your team winning this weekend?

On defense Ned needs to limit the big plays. The big play has killed us all season. 3rd and long especially. -
Cardenas, Forney back with Bulldogs
jake94 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i don't think that tells the whole tale either. Crosby's sophomore QB has grown up a lot since that game. I do agree with the rest though. PN-G beating Crosby has nothing to do with anything in my opinion. Lumberton was probably the most consistent team in our district and their loss came to a team that did not even make the playoffs and it was a 27-12 game. Lumberton smoked a very good Livingston team as well. It just goes to show that looking at one game is not nearly enough of a sample size to form a real opinion. -

I'm gonna agree 100% for those. -

I was hoping this will be the case. We missed Asa the other night. It will be nice to see him on the field against CE King. I think we will win the game. I know everyone is picking against us, but I have a feeling we are gonna show up ready! -
Nederland vs. C.E. King Playoff Predictions?
jake94 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ned's passing game is a lot better when the All-State WR is in the lineup. I am not making an excuse at all, Lumberton beat us and without Beard to boot. But, Asa Cardenas is the best WR in the district and definitely not being out there affects the passing game. Hats off to Lumberton for getting tremendous pressure all night on Kirby. That is the key to disrupting the spread. Lumberton is an excellent smashmouth football team. Team plays with a lot of emotion and their crowd support is great. I agree with you that we should run Grogan more. I left the game scratching my head last night. -
20-4a offensive and defensive MVPS
jake94 replied to ozensfinest's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No joke. Ran for 338 yards last night, took Beard's place at MLB to keep Grogan in check, and punts the ball better than anyone in the district. 50 yard, perfect spirals almost every time. This one's a no brainer, folks. Hannah = best all-around football player in 20-4A = MVP! I agree that Hanna should be the MVP. I do not agree, however, that he is the best punter in the district. I think Nederland's Taylor Trahan is better. -
Y'all were too phyiscal for us tonight and made the plays you needed to make. Impressed with the speed with your big DE's.Very good O-line play all night long. Reminds me a lot of some of the old school PN-G teams. Also impressed with Hanna. I thought he was every bit as good as Hussey from last season. It is a shame that we could not see Beard and Cardenas in this game. Y'all did a good job of making Kirby uncomfortable most of the night. I am not sure why we did not run Grogan more, but I'm no coach. Good luck to y'all. Great enthusiasm and very loud crowd. Good luck in the playoffs.

The suspension of Cardenas and Forney is a huge blow to Nederland this Friday. But, based on the info in the newspaper I commend Coach Neumann for taking this disciplinary stance. It shows his commitment to TEAM and not individuals. Missing a practice unexcused to go to Houston to watch an NBA game does not deserve to go unnoticed. I think Coach made the right choice. I just hope the players understand why they are being punished and choose to rejoin the team on Monday for their playoff journey.

Penny, from what I hear the "best skill player on the field" may not be on the field Friday. Injury or disciplinary reasons? -
Vidor vs. Livingston Predictions?
jake94 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It just goes to show that in any given week a team can look really good or really bad. Lumberton beats Livingston 37-16 one week and then gets beat 29-12 against Vidor who then loses to winless Ozen, and so on and so forth. Nederland looked like the team to beat for a while, then lost 2 straight. Now they look back on track again, but who knows. Lots of things get answered each week.
