  1. Jasper has a very good team. Their QB is very impressive and made some nice cuts running the ball and threw the ball well too. Their MLB really impressed me as well and the 2ndary did a great job in the 1st half. Nederland needs work in the 2ndary and the passing game timing was off in the first half. Need to improve on the offensive line to give Bellow more time to throw. Nederland looked a lot better in the 2nd half. Grogan had a nice game running the ball, Vidrine looks much improved at WR, and Cardenas and Salenga looked good at WR as well. Overall, Jasper was clearly the better team tonight, but I think both teams will make the playoffs. I think Nederland will improve throughout the season. I wish the starting RB Krautz could have played tonight. I heard he looked good last week.I really can't remember in the last 10 years or so us looking great in a scrimmage and we sure didn't tonight.
  2. Well, those guys aren't the only ones practicing. I play with Deaver about 3 times a week and I can tell you that he is better now than last year. His backhand has improved tremendously and he has been playing doubles with good players to improve his volleys. Locally he will dominate again and I think he will win 3A state this year.
  3. Justin Krautz is #22, Gas. I am currently out of town and was hoping we'd use him at RB some this season. He has started at DB for the last 2 years and is probably the fastest player on the team. He looked good running the ball?
  4. I don't remember that being a chip shot. Wasn't it like a 48-yarder?
  5. I don't think that is Grogan in the picture.
  6. do u always talk about yourself in the 3rd person?
  7. Matthew won 6-3 6-4 and will play in the semis tomorrow morning. He also said that Carnley won 7-5 in the 3rd set to move on to the semis in 2A.
  8. I talked to Matthew this morning around 11 to see how he did. He said they were in a rain delay and had not started. I'll post any info I get. He is going to keep me posted.
  9. I said a few weeks ago that this team was good and thought they'd have a good chance in the rematch! SELA beat us at LU 5-2, but it was an extremely hard fought match. Revenge is sweet! Congrats to this great group of girls and to Coach Wong!
  10. 1. An ace down the T :-\ 2. An ace out wide :-\ 3. An ace into the body :-\
  11. Congrats! Hey garsnare, is Austin Klores from Franklin still in high school? If so, the rut-roh! I saw the kid play last year and he is a heckuva player. He either went to A&M and is red-shirted or he signed with A&M and is still in HS. Do you know?
  12. Great Job, Matthew. I had a feeling you would win it. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
  13. If some of these sports writers were half as smart as they THINK they are then they'd be geniuses ;D
  14. I look for Matthew to win Regionals. I have been hitting a lot with him the past few weeks and he is hitting the ball very well right now. He has improved a whole lot in the last few months.
  15. Nederland vs. WO-S.... I have missed the rivalry with my buddies from OC the last several years.
  16. Lamar should be every bit as good or even better next season. I am a very good friend of head coach David Wong. They only graduate one senior, albeit a very good one in Andrea Martinez. She is the best doubles player on the team and plays #1 singles, but is probably the 2nd best singles player. Freshman Mariayeni Gutierrez has been awesome this year. She plays #1 doubles and #2 singles and is going to be a great player. SLU has a good team. I was at the match yesterday. Most of their players are seniors from Eastern Europe... places such as Macedonia and Slovenia. They compete really hard and call lines extremely close(I am being politically correct). This match swung with the doubles point. #3 doubles went to a tie break with SLU winning a close one to get the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Andrea cramped up in the third set at #1 singles with a 4-1 lead and ended up fighting thru the cramps but fell 7-6 in the 3rd. I really felt like LU was just as good as SLU. These are the two teams to beat at conference. Should be another great matchup.
  17. Everyone needs to get out there and support these girls. Match time is NOON at LU. They are very good, very competitive, and a joy to watch. They aren't bad to look at either! Lamar is 17-1 on the season and 6-0 in conference. The only loss was a 5-2 decision at nationally ranked Rice. SELA is the three time defending conference champ with a 14-2 record and 4-0 in conference. The have 5 seniors in their singles lineup. There will be free t-shirts and pizza. A hostile crowd can make it difficult on the visitors. Let's pack the house!
  18. I'll clear it up for you guys... There is a big difference between a "teaching" pro and a "touring" pro. Most teaching pros are 4.0-5.0 players. There are some exceptions to the rule, but most fall in those levels. Mr. Aranda is a very good coach, but probably a 4.0 tennis player. As for the local "pros", "coaches", etc you can look up ratings on USTA. com. For instance, local ratings of pros and coaches are as follows... David Wong is an average 4.5 player Lamar's head men's tennis coach Greg Davis is a low level 4.0 player Jorge Lopez is a very good 5.0 player Dean Clower is a high 4.5 low 5.0 Tony Fuselier is a 4.0 player last I checked Pat Abshire is a 4.5 player Tony Buagas is a very good 4.5 player Jeff Herr is probably a 4.0 to low 4.5 Jerry Creamer is a 4.5 Aranda is probably a high 4.0 Russell Grogan is an average 4.5 player Ron Wesbrooks is a 4.0 player All these guys are good coaches. I am sure I left someone out. But, there is a big difference between "teaching" pro and "touring" pro. And just cause a guy is really good at tennis, it does not mean he is a good coach and vice versa.
  19. Happy that he is staying. Happy that he is getting paid. I had a feeling he was using this as a bargaining tool! Well done Larry, and well done NISD ponying up the cash! Let's start another playoff run!
  20. I do not know why the thought keeps crossing my mind, but it does. If we lose Neumann, I keep envisioning Cornell Thompson as our head man.
  21. Why has everyone already conceded this job to Neumann? I am sure there are 3 other great candidates. I think all of this talk is a little premature. I look for Nederland to step in very quickly and give Larry a raise to stay(this is a prediction, not a fact).
  22. I say the Indians will go 7-3 and make the playoffs.
  23. I agree Penny. I do not want to lose Neumann at all. I was just saying that if we were to lose him that I hope we get a guy who can bring back the physical style Bulldog defenses from years past. I want Neumann to stay here until he retires!
  24. If we lose Neumann, then I hope we go after someone that will teach us to play defense again. I wonder if we could lure Cornell Thompson over here?
  25. Do you get extra points for losing a close match? Nobody in local high school tennis has beaten him yet and I still don't expect it to happen around here. He practices with a lot higher caliber of players throughout the week than what he plays in tourneys. That gives him and edge. Also, the fact that nobody has beaten him in local HS yet gives him all the confidence in the world. Somebody will have to step up to break the pecking order. But, I see no reason to talk trash about a close loss. A loss is a loss!
