I am shocked. The guy was awesome in high school and I just figured he would do great at the next level.

Most of the run's were through the 4 and 6 hole. Right at the LB's. Our alignment looked more like a 5-2 because 2 LB's were on the each end of the front and then 2 LB's behind the front. Our alignment was pretty good by looking at the replay. The coaches have seen it and have started acting on it as I thought they would. Were not talking about just one game here, this has been a problem.

I'd have to go back and watch film, but I remember us running right off bill's butt, he caved you in, and he was the tackle over, lined up as the TE, this would not be the 4-6 hole???

Running right of bill's butt.  That would technically  be the A-hole.  :o

i will size it up for you in a nutshell, offense can move the ball but it looks like coach is set on running up the middle and only passing when neccessary! I will say the one handed reception by nelson in the back of the endzone was probably the best i have ever seen in my time, defensively we are absolutely horrible, the only team we may beat is nederland and that is questionable. You give up 500 yards  of  offense and you deserve to loose. Hunter Knox is  really the only brightspot on the defense, DJ is a beast but is never in place to be a force. i really think that they need to put gizzi back on defensive side of the ball. he was only targeted about 4 times on offense and i dont think that warrants him being there on offense. AS i see it if we cant outscore them then we will lose, Livingston scored on every possession except the one where we stripped the ball. The only punt of the game was from us. It seemed like everytime we had them in a pinch the qb stepped up and made big runs. Coach needs to win the lotto and hope for someone to show up on defense because it doesnt exist, i cant remember or want to the last time we gave up 500 yards, but on a good note the offense appears to be balanced and we can get to paydirt. Special teams is another area that needs work. I would hate to be at practice next week knowing that you have to face a team that can throw the ball, and to  think i thought we could stop the run oh my god. I will have to change my picks for playoffs appears we wont be there

It's just one game... I have no doubts that you guys will make the playoffs.
4. I hate the spread offense. All it has been good for since we started using it has been getting our QBs injured and leaving our defense on the field for 2/3 of the game. It takes the whole play clock to get the play in and we never run it quickly. I liked the old offense much better and am not sure why we ever changed to this.

I love the site.. Only thing I don't like is very minor.. When there is more than one page in a thread the numbers are in blue and hard to see on the black. If they were red, white, yellow, bright green, orange.. any light color it would be much easier to see the pages. Anyone else notice this?

Yep!

Glad it isn't just me!
6. Congrats Pirates. You guys came to play. I was impressed with your backfield speed. The defense played a great game as well. Nederland has lots of problems right now. The defense looks great for 3 or 4 plays, then BAMMM, LONG TD run. On offense, we are a mess right now. I can't stand the spread offense, but we are convinced for some reason it's the way to go. Nederland has a ton of potential, but just not making the plays right now. Can we please take the fake punt out of the playbook? I think we are 0 for 20 on that play the last few years.  Nederland can still be a dangerous opponent, but until we stop giving up long plays, foolish penalties, and turning the ball over, I think we are just gonna be a "spoiler". Plenty of season left to fix these things, but the time is now. I am not gonna stop supporting the kids, they never seem to quit. I would, however, like to see us get our swagger back. We will have to play MUCH, MUCH better to compete with PN-G next week. Good luck Pirates on the rest of your season and good game tonight. You guys earned it.
7. Haha.. You caught me. It was in fact me. I did not see you though. My wife went to PN-G and was the Indianette captain when she was there. We surprised her godchild at lunch today and the wife decked out my poor lil 6 month old in all purple.  :o  Now we are home and my lil girl is changing shirts and getting ready to go watch the Bulldogs! Good luck to y'all tonight! We also went to the PN-G pep rally today which is another thing I NEVER thought I would do. haha

Since my kid goes to LCM, I don't have a dog in this hunt...

But...

It's a tough decision for a coach to make.  Do you put a kid in as QB who has a lot of athletic talent, but struggles with interacting with his team mates, or do you put the kid in who might not have as much talent, but has the ability to work with the others?  Plain and simple, football is not a popularity contest.  A coach has to evaluate the tangibles and intangibles and decide who will be best for the TEAM.  That the "field general" might not be a popular choice shouldn't matter to kids who are team players.  The fact that Coach Neumann had the new QB talk to his team mates and iron things out, shows that coach recognized that there were issues.  That the majority of the team stood behind their QB, even the kid being replaced, after this, shows that the majority of the team play for the sake of the team.  That does not bode ill for Nederland.  They know they have to work at it.  Once you identify an issue, you work to remedy the issue and play ball.  As for the kid who left...hey, you knew what the consequences were before you walked out of the locker room.  I can understand leaving on principle, but to go to the rival across the way shows that principle only goes so far...

Excellent post, elhector! Very good points that you make. I wonder how the lineman that quit would feel if he had gotten injured and had a guy fill in for him, then come back to be re-inserted into the lineup and have a kid at a totally different position tell him that his backup was better and he should not get to play? It's almost an unwritten rule in sports that you do not lose your starting position due to injury. Look at the Eagles currently. Andy Reid is sticking with his starter.

Jake,

The primary reason I said that Nederland's chances have dropped dramatically is due to the recent news article and developments on the team.  There appears to be dissention on the team and that is a huge distraction. Team harmony and chemistry is very important, and it does not look like Nederland has that at the moment.  Also, one of their top linemen, and who is also one of the team leaders, left the team and the school, and went to PNG.  Will the players rally around Coach Neuman and Forney as the QB?  That is the reason why I say that their chances of contending for the district title has dropped dramatically.

However, if you read one of my other previous posts, I said that Neuman can turn this around and quell some of the anxiety with a win, and they are playing Vidor.  Playing at Vidor might be a blessing in disguise for the team, because they might not have as many fans at the game as they would if they were playing at home, and they can focus more on the game.  A win will do wonders, and a strong performance would be icing on the cake.  This could be the turning point for Nederland and a win would give them momentum and confidence.  But, that remains to be seen.  A loss, and the storm would surely intensify.
Fair enough. Thanks for the response. Makes sense. I have known about the lineman quitting for several days and thought it was going to be kept quiet. I did not know that he had transferred to PN-G and I am guessing that is why the news came out. If he is allowed to play, then I think it is an absolutley ridiculous ruling. Also, Nederland is still not at full strength like I thought they might be this week. Trevin Sonnier will be held out once again. This is a big injury for the Dogs.

BMTSoulja1, yes, I have to go with PNG, even though they have a losing record.  Look at the teams that they played, and both of those games were very close.  Since District play starts this week, I think that everyone is a contender, probably with the exception of Vidor, and Nederland's chances have dropped dramatically.

Livingston - I don't know anything about them.  I will pick them as the dark horse to make the playoffs.
Vidor - just don't think that they have the athletes this year to compete for the title or even a playoff spot.
Nederland - internal turmoil and QB issues.  Big question marks.
LCM and Lumberton - both have looked pretty good, and warrant consideration as a legitimate title contender, and definitely contenders for a playoff spot.
Ozen and Central - it's hard to gauge either team with their losses to WB and PAM, and their wins against weaker Houston teams.  Both have the athletes to compete for the title, and both have the athletes to make the playoffs.
PNG - reigning champs.  Despite their two close losses, they are a well coached team, and have the athletes to git'r done.

In my opinion, PNG is the favorite to win District 20-4A.  I could be proven wrong.
Why have Nederland's chances dropped dramatically? Is it because they are now healthy for the first time this season? How do you feel the teams you have above them would have done without their starting QB if they had to start a soph at QB who had never played varsity before? WO-S was just better than Ned. Ned's win against Goose Creek was against a rebuilding team. The Barbers Hill game was a loss and a good game. Nederland was without the QB and top 2 WR in that game as well. I am not saying that Nederland is a district champ favorite or anything, but to say their chances have dropped dramatically does not make sense to me. The top lineup has not even been on the field yet...
