  1. Very proud of our boys tonight, they are battling some intense adversity. lost starting DE and another starting QB, and still battled into OT.  Tough loss, but you can't help but be proud of the effort, especially on defense.  Atterberry was excellent in relief of Smith, just a few too many turnovers.  Had it inside the 5 once and turned it over, and inside the 10 once and turned it over.  Ozen is a well coached team, they are much improved over any Ozen team I've seen in the past 5 years... they will be tough to beat.  204A is going to have some wars this year.

    Brubaker,

Are you seriously saying that Ozen impressed you? I thought both teams looked pretty bad.

  2. Nederland may be looking at going 1-9 on the season, unless something changes real quick.  The other teams in the district all seem to be playing well tonight.  These 2 teams will probably finish at the bottom of the district this year.

I agree it will be a long season for us. If Tyler Smith is indeed out for the year, then I do not see us winning a district game. I think this was a battle of the 7th and 8th place teams. Congrats on the win Ozen.

  3. I expect a tight first half with both teams feeling each other out.  Middle third quarter PNG offensive line will take control of the game.  PNG will pull away in the fourth quarter with their physical fronts.  PNG 28 LCM 10

Based on how PNG has played thus far this season I see it just the opposite. PNG pulls out early like they have in each game, then LCM fights back and PNG wins a tight one down the stretch. LCM is much improved.

I could definitely see that happening. I think it will be fairly close as well. Indians win, but probably by 10 points or less.

  4. yeah hard fought games that shouldnt have been for yall if yall were any good, give me a break they were 3a schools. lc-m should have ran over them if yall are supposedly so great this year

Okay,I will play devil's advocate here... What do you PN-G fans think your record would be if you played LC-M's schedule?? I say you would be 2-1 AT BEST. And, with Nederland's schedule I say you would be 1-2 AT BEST. Y'all should not be making fun of LC-M's schedule. WO-S is far superior to anyone you have played.

  5. I wish I could pull up all the posts from last year and read about how Ozen was supposedly going to donkey stomp us by double digits. Just curious, how did that one turn out for the Panthers?

Listen, Nederland is not a great team by any stretch of the imagination. But, Ozen is not the juggernaut that you make them out to be. This is a battle of two teams that most observers are leaving out of their playoff equations. It will be a good test for both teams. I think both of these teams have A LOT to prove.

By the way, Friendswood did beat us pretty bad and it could have probably been worse. I would put money though that F'wood would go undefeated in 20-4A. No excuses about us playing with a 3rd string QB. They would have stomped us anyways. I am curious though... How do you think y'all would have done on the road against a top notch team with your 3rd string QB? Y'all probably would have beat them, right?

Ozen vs. Nederland is always a good game. It comes down to the technique and fundamentals of Nederland vs. the speed and athleticism of the Panthers. This year will be no different. Should be a great game!

  6. Jake94--I disagree with you over the pre-season schedules. I would take PN-G's schedule all day--just feel like it was tougher and more beneficial. For those who like to include the scrimmage games--PN-G scrimmaged P.A. Memorial and did a great job against them.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. WO-S and Cleveland are solid foes. Bridge City is an improved team, but not a great team by any stretch. If you want to include scrimmages, then LC-M beat(if anyone actually wins scrimmages) your toughest opponent Texas City and also defeated Baytown Lee(I am not 100% for sure on this one). I thought PN-G looked much improved in their scrimmage against Memorial. I did not see the Barbers Hill game,  but the natives weren't too happy after that one point win. Crosby's defense is awful and even their fans will tell you that. Texas City is an above average team in my opinion and that was a good OT win. Regardless, this Friday night is what matters and I think it will be a great game.

  7. A few things here...

    1. I am very surprised that the PN-G folks are making fun of the LC-M schedule. WO-S and Cleveland are better than any of the teams that PN-G has faced. Okay, Texas City could be an argument there but I am confident that the Stangs would handle them by a couple of TDs. Cleveland vs. Texas City would be a close ballgame and Cleveland running attack would have lots of success vs. TC questionable run defense. I am very confident that WO-S and Cleveland would beat both Barbers Hill and Crosby. Anyway, this does not have much bearing on the game. Just surprised that the schedule is being made fun of.

    2. Both of these teams are much improved. PN-G fans are excited about the new offense and the turnover causing defense that Faircloth brings to the table. LC-M is playing well under Coach Crouch and he has the team heading in the right direction and believing they can win. The young guys took some lumps last season, but are tasting success this season.

    3. This should be a great ballgame. If the game were at LC-M, I think I would favor the Bears since PN-G has not hit the road yet. But, since it is at PN-G it is hard to go against the Indians. I think the Indians will eek out a close win at home. But, if the players are treating this game like a lot of the PN-G faithful are, then it could be a sad night for them at the Rez this Friday. Should be a great game, wish I could go.

  8. I agree with a lot of you that we should scrap the spread, but it does not look like it will happen so I guess we'll have to keep doing it. I read an article 2 weeks back that said we had been running a lot of I-formation and pro sets and we did not run either the whole time against Waller. We were in the shotgun on the 1 yard line! We were in the shotgun to kneel the friggin ball at the end of the game for the win!

I think a lot of fans are overreacting to getting blown out by Friendswood. Last night did not surprise me one bit. Friendswood is a very good ballclub and I had a feeling that we might get blown out on the road with a 3rd string QB. It sounded like Atterberry played fine though. The game got out of hand right before halftime when we gave up two scores in 1 minuite to turn a 14-0 game into a 28-0 blowout. In the three games thus far, we have allwed a TD or more in the last 2 minutes right before the half. We have to fix that to be successful. I have said all season that I feel we lack the big play guy we have had in the past and I still feel that way, but I think theis team can still be successful.

I think Nederland will regroup, get Tyler Smith back, feed the rock to Cardenas more and tighten up just enough on defense to beat the Panthers. Don't jump ship on the Dogs yet, a lot of teams in the district would have gotten smoked last night the way that FW played. To the guy whose giving Nederland 21 points, sign me up for some of that action! This aint basketball!

    Port Neches-Groves Indians

    Sept. 25 Little Cypress-Mauriceville*, 7;30 p.m.  W 35-0

    Oct. 2 Nederland*, 7:30 p.m.                           W 48-21

    Oct. 9 @ Livingston*, 7:30 p.m.                       W 51-28

    Oct. 16 Vidor*, 7:30 p.m.                                W 41-35

    Oct. 23 @ Lumberton*, 7:30 p.m.                      ?

    Oct. 30 Beaumont Ozen*, 7:30 p.m.                  W 48-0

    Nov. 6 @ Beaumont Central*, 7:30 p.m.             W 35-0

Even predicting scores? Wow, I don't agree with a few others, but I really don't believe you guys are going to shut out Central!:o

PN-G will be winning some games in district, but there will be no shutouts...

Those are some big scores! 37 is the most they have put up so far and that was against Crosby's swiss cheese D. I think PN-G is improved, but not dominant by any means. I think they will battle for 3rd or 4th along with several other team.

  10. I would love it if we would get back to the power "I" and pro sets. We could run the spread in certain situations to keep defenses off balance. I have never been a big fan of us running the spread. We use up most of the play clock looking to the sidelines for a play while the defense gets to take their time getting in position. Hope to see us mix it up more!

  11. He came in last season when Bellow got hurt in the playoff game vs. CE King and drove us down for the game winning TD. He looked really good in that game.

He came in against WO-S at the beginning of the 4th when Bellow got hurt two weeks ago and had a rough time. I suspect it was from the very small number of snaps that he had probably taken with the first team offense.

All in all I think he will be a good QB this season. I have not heard how he is looking in practice or anything like that. I do know though that he is a winner just like Sampere and Bellow were before him.

This situation is so eerily similar to the Sampere/Bellow(and Delage/Dean years ago) situation and we all know that turned out fine. I suspect this will as well and he will blossom into one of the area's best QB's over the next 2 seasons.

I thought Hood came in when Dean got hurt...

Ahhh... Yet another example that I forgot about. Dean came in vs. Vidor when Delage got hurt and you are right that Hood came in once Dean got hurt the next season. This has been a common theme in Nederland.

  12. I think that you should run the numbers against district opponents.  You could have 2 sections.  One section with season totals and one section for games played within the district totals.

Absolutely! Whose stats would be better... Texas vs. Lousiana-Monroe or Alabama vs. VA Tech? Although some people contend "there are still 11 guys out there"  ::)  I think the stats will be skewed until district. It's not an apples to apples comparison. Once the district SEASON is in the books, it will then be an accurate portrayal.

Accurate portrayal of what? Stats are just stats, no matter who you are playing. I have seen many a team get blown away in the stat department but still win the game.

An accurate portrayal of stats. That is what we are talking about, right? I agree a lot of times the stats do not tell the story or even indicate who won the game.

  13. I think that you should run the numbers against district opponents.  You could have 2 sections.  One section with season totals and one section for games played within the district totals.

  15. As a Ned fan, I think it is pretty obvious that WO-S had a significant speed edge against us this season. They always do. I think the question mark for the Dogs this season is: "Who is going to step up and be the big play guy?" In the past we have had Cardenas, Grogan, Butler, Moseley, Askew, Yoder, Sumrall, etc, etc, etc. It remains to be seen whether we have a big play guy or not.

WO-S was clearly the better team two weeks ago. I agree the 7 turnovers did not help, but you gotta hand it to the WO-S defense for being in the right places at the right times.

In my opinion, there were 3 plays that really turned the game from being a close one to a losided Stangs win. They were:

    1. The muffed punt at the WO-S 35 when Ned was down 12-7(or maybe 13-7?)

    2. WO-S TD on the deflected pass on 4th down and long right before halftime(I think it was a 5-point game at that point)

    3. The injury to Bellow at the start of the 4th with Ned driving down by 12.

These are not excuses. WO-S was the better team and much faster team. They were in the right places at the right times and turnovers are part of the game. Every game has game-changing plays and these were them in my opinion from a Ned standpoint.

Ned will be okay once the QB settles in. He will be fine. He has a host of good WR's. Just not sure we ahve the home run hitter we are accustomed to. I hope I am wrong. The defense looks like it hits harder, but we still aren't wrapping up. Big improvement over last year though. I think we will battle for the 3rd or 4th spot. It's gonna be a tough district.
