  1. The consensus from his relatives on bigned.com is that he will be out for the season.
  2. Matt Schaub
  3. If PN-G solved their offensive woes and went back to the old "bread and butter", then Johnson will not get a lot of chances. He did not do much in the spread and will do less if they run the ball 85% of the time like they have the past 5 years. No doubt he is a good WR, but he might be underutilized now that the spread has failed them.
  4. Actually, Deaver is practicing more than ever right now. I have seen him out at LU playing at night against a few LU players. I was told he lost last night to Chema(Emanuel Olivier LU #4 singles) 7-6 6-1. I saw him playing him again tonight but do not know who won or what the score was. He is playing against a lot better players than he will play against this high school season and is holding his own. I don't see anyone in the local high school tennis scene posing a serious threat to him this season.
  5. If by win district you mean finish 4th or 5th, then we agree!
  6. Size and speed do not always determine the winner of a football game. Nederland was the much smaller and slower team on both sides of the ball at Reliant and was comfortably ahead before the starting QB went down and held on for the win.
  7. Lamar lost to Brenham by 1 point last week. Nederland beat Brenham by 1 point. Several on here say that Memorial would smoke Nederland. So..... shouldn't this be a Memorial blowout?!? I am just kidding guys.. I know comparing scores is no way to accurately handicap a game. But, it is food for thought in this situation..
  8. I am Nederland fan and I would say: 1. Powdrill 2. King 3. Cardenas 4. Spikes
  9. East Chambers Lamar Vidor Lumberton Kelly Newton Kirbyville Woodville Anahuac Diboll Warren Deweyville Buna Kountze Hardin Evadale Chester
  10. Rushing yards vs. Nederland this season... Brenham 131 yards (this team had a huge line and a couple of capable backs, their QB was not much of a running threat but a true pocket passer(166 passing yards) Forest Brook 41 yards (30 of these came on one play when their RB got loose for a TD. This team has no offensive line, but I wish we had their tailback. If he had some blocking he would be dangerous. Also, their QB was no passing threat(20 passing yards) Waller 318 yards (most of these were long runs by the QB who was very elusive, they also had two other big strong backs that ran behind a physical offensive line. They averaged around 7 yards per rush and in my opinion this team will be able to run the ball every week. They ran for 204 against Lamar Consolidated who has a very good D and for 367 yards against Bay City. Without the LOOOONNNGGG runs by the QB, I'd say we held them to 2-3 yards per rush, but I know that those long runs count too!) Nederland has allowed 18 points per game on average. 163 ypg on the ground. 84 ypg thru the air. I am happy with our defense thus far. If we can keep from giving up big plays then this defense will be a force. I hope everyone subscribes to the theory that we are soft up the middle because that couldn't be further from the truth in my opinion. I actually think that is our major strength on D. Our passing stats look really good, but we have yet to face an elite passing attack.
  11. I'd say we are underdogs vs. Dayton and Central more than likely. But, I like our chances against LC-M and Ozen who are both having problems scoring. We were VERY fortunate to win vs. Waller and Brenham for that matter after our QB got hurt. But, I think both of those teams would be in the thick of things in 22-AAAA.
  12. We have LOTS to work on. But, I am elated to be 3-0 right now against some pretty good competition.
  13. The week before we allowed about 70 total yards for the game! The level of competition stepped up this week and in turn so did the yards allowed. Waller had a really good running attack and had great success between the 20's. But, once they got into the red zone, the defense tightened up as most D's do vs. any kind of offense. The QB was really slick with his fake handoffs and fake pitches, he burnt us a few times. I like our D against a team with 1 or 2 RB threats or 1 QB threat. But, it is tough to stop a team with 3 threats in the backfield.. 2 RB's and 1 QB. Lucky for us that Waller did not throw the ball well. They really would have had us on our heels.
  14. I'll take the Pirates at home by a TD. If they can't beat Livingston, then district will be a really tough row to hoe.
  15. I dunno.. Mergers are not always happy marriages and success. Look at Port Arthur Memorial. There is no excuse for them not making noise statewide. I hope Nederland never merges with anyone. I am against 2 or 3 teams merging and making a "superschool."
  16. My mistake.. The radio guys on KLVI reported last week that Brenham had beaten Yates. It must have been misinformation. Did Yates used to be 5A?
  17. Brenham has back-to-back wins against 5A Houston Yates and 5A Houston Lamar. That tells me the Nederland win over them was quality. Waller has a win over Bay City who beat WO-S this evening and a loss to a very strong Lamar Consolidated who returned the nucleus of a very strong offense and defense from last season. Forest Brook, well they pretty much suck. The defense is not soft against the run. We did give up a few big plays last night, but I actually like it when teams run against us instead of passing. Our secondary has been solid thus far, but I trust our guys up front more than I do the safeties and corners. Waller had a triple headed rushing attack and we have always had problems with QB's that can run. Other than the QB, we did a good job on their backs in my opinion. We forced 7 fumbles and recovered 4 of them and scored two TD's. Sounds like a good game to me. Waller was much more polished on offense than we were and I was impressed with their size and speed. I think that district finish will be Brenham, Waller, and Caney Creek in that order.
  18. 31-17 Broncos. Soft schedule comes back to bite L-town once again.
  19. Back-toback wins for Brenham againt good 5-A teams after losing to my Dogs.
  20. I think both backs bring different skills to the table and can make us tougher to prepare for. I don't see either as "clearly" better than the other. I also thought the 3rd back we used last week did a fine job, #14 Bryce Breaux. I do not think that we have that elite back that we have come accustomed to in the last handful of seasons at Ned, but these three guys can collectively carry the load.
  21. I still think it comes down to facilities and country clubs as well. All of the Houston area teams that have numerous champ and superchamp players have the luxury of many country clubs, acadamies, and coaches to choose from. Let's look at Montgomery.. They used to not factor at all before the academy was installed at April Sound, one of THREE resorts(April Sound, DelLago,Walden) in Montgomery. I know that area well, I was relocated there during the hurricane because I have a lakehouse there. I played for about a month with the kids and coaches there because there was nothing else to do. There are some great juniors that train there. When I played at Nederland in the mid 90's, we were top 10 in the state. But, we were much closer to 10 than we were to 1.. Those top 5 teams were supers and champs thru the WHOLE lineup. You are right when you say that it is not possible to compete against that. We were knocked out at state in team tennis that year by a score of 15-3 by a team named Flower Mound Marcus if I am remembering right. I also remember us getting smoked by San Antonio Alamo Heights.
  22. I think he will be a big factor on how far we go this season. As a soph,I think he will learn the game more this season. Look out for him in '08 and '09, he should be an absolute STUD by then. Not a whole lot of running backs are 180-190lbs as sophs with good speed.
  23. I agree with everything you said, garsnare. It also seems the only doubles success that we had had locally is in the lower classifications(3A,2A,1A). None of the teams that you listed would even do much in regionals at the 4A and 5A level. I think it probably goes back to the mid 90's since a local 4A or 5A doubles team has gone to state.
  24. I agree with sportfan07. There is not a whole lot of doubles talent in high school at the moment. I don't think he is bashing anyone, just stating his opinion. The fact of the matter is that juniors are working on their singles games and their coaches are teaching them strategies for singles and ignoring doubles for the most part. They are two TOTALLY different games.
  25. I am the farthest thing in the world from a PNG fan, in fact they are my LEAST favorite team in the area. But, I think they will get things going this week and win this game by two TD's. And, yes I have seen Silsbee play. The soph QB is very good, but so is PNG's defense. Burnett's job is on the line every game and I think they are going to use Hemmings, Wright, and Tezeno a lot this week and score some points.
