As a hobby, I like to monitor the sports media business and I enjoy the heck out of it. I can access the weekly assignments for Fox or any other network such as ESPN on a regular basis. And over the last year or so I have noticed a consistent pattern and absolutely bugs the heck out of me and I often find it quite annoying for two cities close to each other as Beaumont and Houston are. This pattern I have seen is the different game assignments for KRIV in Houston and KUIL in Beaumont every single week when it comes to Fox Saturday Baseball. GAME SUMMARIES: 1=Angels @ Yankees (HD) - 69% — Kenny Albert, Joe Girardi 2=Twins @ White Sox - 11% — Thom Brennaman, Mark Grace 3=Braves @ Padres - 19% — Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, Ken Rosenthal Beaumont TX KUIL 3 Houston TX KRIV 1 Basically, KUIL will get the Braves/Padres game while KRIV gets Angels/Yankees this week. Why is it different every week? It has puzzled me and a few others that see this pattern on a consistent basis. Anyone with an answer please solve this mystery. My friends who also see this have raised a big stink and gripe about it.

Well, based on what we have seen with the Jesuit schools, I really don't see this becoming a major major problem as long as schools such as Cornerstone abide by UIL rules and regulations. Sure, this thing raised a red flag with many people three, four years ago when Strake Jesuit and Dallas Jesuit joined the league. Looking back after three years of the Jesuits under the UIL umbrella, the jury is still out. Sure the private schools can be competitive in the UIL. For the sake of the kids in these schools, I doubt anyone really and truly wants to see them in a non-competitive nature. For football, this will be a numbers game. I don't see the addition of private schools become a major topic of discussion come late November or December for quite some time unless the social and economic make up of the school systems change relatively soon. It wont be a big issue in football as it will in other sports simply because of the numbers and the make up of the Texas school system. For other sports it is clearly possible to see a very competitive private school program in a solid playoff run. One thing this will do is add to the hunger of the public schools to knock them off. I have experienced this atmosphere in during my junior and senior years in Florida. You can ask every public school athlete in South Florida which schools they hate the most and 9 of 10 will say Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and Hollywood Chaminade Madonna in no particular order. Its the same thing for public schools in Louisiana with Shreveport Evangel Christian. The reason St. Thomas Aquinas is so successful in Florida in almost every sport is because there are no guidelines to controlling the "recruiting" issue, nor are there guidelines to transfers from one school to the next. St. Thomas Aquinas is about as big a school, if not bigger than most public schools in the state of Florida. And knowing and having seen St. Thomas Aquinas in person, the big reason STA is so attractive is due to the fact that the educational value is much better there than it is in many public schools. Point is, unless, you have the restrictions and guidelines in controlling these concerns, you will have the results of a St. Thomas Aquinas or an Evangel exposing the loopholes every year. With the UIL's policework and strict guidelines not just for the Jesuit schools, but for every public school system in Texas, its hard to imagine we will see what we see in Louisiana and California. But this issue really varies from state to state based on the social and economic make up of the schools as a whole. For Texas, I don't see this becoming a big impact unless what I have previously stated.

For Class of 2008 players who attend the combine, if there is extra incentive, national recruiting guru Max Emfinger will be at the combine and will be looking for players to play in the 2008 All-American Bowl All-Star Classic on January 4, 2008 in Jackson, Mississippi. Five 2008 All-American Bowl Game Invitations Will Be Given out at each Combine That Emfinger Attends! -
[Hidden Content] I posted this back in November and nobody paid too much attention. And now look at what is being talked about. You have to look at the bigger picture.. the big thing this will do is give the smaller schools a chance to compete. 21-3A had WOS, Silsbee, Kirbyville made the playoffs. Hardin-Jefferson, Hamshire-Fannett, Orangefield, and Kirbyville are smallest schools in the their district. Biggest schools are WOS, Silsbee, Jasper and Bridge City. Traditionally out of the district, look at the playoff contenders. That is the root of the problem in about 90% of the districts in the state. The new format would actually make things more competitive. I would guarantee the 90% of the coaches would worry about being more competitive and making the playoffs than worry about the travel issue. Sure, some parts of the state have long travel like in East and West Texas. Thats part of the reason realignment is held in February instead of June or July. Scheduling and Travel budgets are done in spring months. This plan design to make the disparity between the schools less evident and more competitive. You are not losing championships but you gaining the opportunity for smaller schools to be more competitive and have a better chance to make the playoffs and go deeper as well. Instead of splitting the teams by enrollment in the playoffs, it would be split up enrollment by district. The top two in each of the 16 districts would advance to playoffs. You are gaining a playoff team in each classification but losing a playoff spot in district. Bascically resulting in better competition for big and small schools as a whole. You will probably see more smaller districts of no more than 5 or 6 teams. West Brook in 5A, Kirbyville in 3A, Nederland in 4A would actually have decent shot to go deeper under the format.
