SFA...you have to realize just how great BROCK is --... the best of the best want go there--they play year round and travel & play ALL OVER the U.S competing against the best teams, 5A's included, in the WHOLE COUNTRY, not just Texas ...everything is set up for winning in girls basketball there... and Winnsboro has consistently had a fantastic program for DECADES....I've been watching them at State for the last 20+ years in person! Once you realize just how dominating BROCK is and that they can beat a team like Winnsboro by 20 pts--and that no team in the regional playoffs came close to Winnsboro, it will become obvious to you just how near impossible it is for any 2A team in Southeast Texas (weakest area) to get to state, especially as long as Winnsboro keeps volleyball out & Buddy is there. Watch and see who goes to State again in 2A from our region next year!

Only "2%" of Basketball Coaches in Texas go to the Stateplayoffs! Very difficult to do... who knows when???  if???  our Woodville Lady Eagles will ever be there again. Time will tell, but realistically it could be a long time, if ever. When had we ever gone in the past...never.  Takes great team, great coach and many things have to fall into place...a lot of good teams never get there. Woodville's been fortunate to have a good coach now and good coaches in the past. You can understand why many coaches with 25-30 yrs are retiring & going to other states to draw their TX retirement & another full salary at the same time in LA, AR, OK, etc..(TX is getting a lot of Oklahoma coaches)--hard to turn down doubling your salary + benefits (double dipping) in our current employment/economic environment. Lot of coaches in OK and TX retiring in one & crossing the border to do this. Just too much incentive to turn down...

Buddy Hawkins there--just like I posted earlier in the year, they were the team to beat--no one else in the Region even came close.  They have a YEAR Round Basketball program--no volleyball--a powerhouse! Been to State so many times. School Adm support. Superb home town support! The whole town shuts down to go & support their team. Could be decade or longer before another team gets beyond them to go to State as long as they are in the region.

knew we'd beat Lovelady and we'll definitely beat Cushing... then face Woden. Beating Woden should give us confidence in winning District as they are probably our only competition once District starts. Little more difficult to win @ Woden, but predict we beat Woden home & away during district. Lookin forward to Tyler Regionals this year!

SFAJACK saw Lufkin Daily News report this but wonder if correct... since they incorrectly said Woodville was playing @ 4pm Friday. Hope it's wrong.

I think we beat Lovelady by at least 10 pts Thursday in Zavalla Tourn... would be great start to winning it all!

SFA, EAST TX posted that we only lost by 9 this time...much better showing

definitely no coach bashing for Woodville..we've been fortunate to have "coaches" lead us to the playoffs for several recent years now and looking forward to Coach Carrell continuing that tradition!

thumper...have more faith in our Lady Eagles!!!! We will win the Zavalla Tourney again starting with a win over Lovelady this Thursday.... don't count us out... will be tough tourney as usual with several good teams, but we can take it!!!

yeah...SFAJACK02 & glorydaz predicting a comeback win for our Lady Eagles this time.... even though we didn't win the Big Sandy Tourney again this yr, a Bridge City win 2nite would definitely boost our confidence even more!!

Coach Danny Buchanan retired from Texas and is now 5A Head Coach in Oklahoma...

Winnsboro IS now in the same region as Woodville...for at least next 2 yrs. Look at their history....will be all but impossible for any team in golden-tri area to make it past Buddy's team in Tyler Regionals.

sorry...meant to say Woodville played & also beat "Woden" last year--not Kountze. For last 6 years Woodville was either District Champs or Co-Champs. Time and games will tell if this team makes it 7 years in a row!

but Woodville beat Kirbyville twice last year, once by abt 20 pts... also beat teams like Lovelady, Leggett, Kountze, Goodrich, etc...good thing Kirbyville not in same district this year Woodville basketball always been at disadvantage to some schools as volleyball always makes lst round of playoffs and thus basketball team doesn't get to practice together until season starts... many other schools start practicing together as a team months earlier. As long as Winnsboro remains in same Region, Woodville will never be back at state. They are a known powerhouse basketball/program school and it just won't happen. Can Woodville even make third place and get to the playoffs this year?
