1. I like Coach Thompson and I always cheer for WO-S when they are playing someone other than LC-M but this didn't need to go all the way to the UIL. They voted 6-0 in favor of the kid. It wasn't even close. As for transfers into the WO-S program I can think of a very highly successful athlete in Jason Woods who transferred from South Park. He was a QB there but at that time the Mustangs ran the veer so he was moved to TE. However, football wasn't his best sport as he was drafted out of high school as a catcher in baseball. He played two seasons of minor league ball and ended up on the last roster before football was dropped as a QB in 1988 for Lamar University. Guy was 6'6, 225 lbs and dated a friend of mine's sister. Finally, I hope everyone who reads this thread doesn't think I'm a Coach Thompson hater because I'm far from it. He went out of his way to help a relative. I just think going by what people say and not facts is a mistake. Especially, high school age kids. Good luck to the kid and may he and West Brook have a successful season.
 2. They sound pretty good and when he signed I looked up information on them and they were good last year too as you mentioned in your post. Is your son playing? I thought I read something about him red-shirting?
 3. AAW, couldn't you let him worry for a few minutes? LOL
 4. I've been trying to find the fan board of the school your son decided to attend. You got a internet address?
 5. North, I apologize if I posted anything to make you feel this way. I agree with WOSgrad and you are a valuable poster where ever you are putting your thought on a message board. I just get a little fired up when others think they know more about a situation than the coaches staff. That doesn't just go for Lamar. We could be talking about some HS team and I'd feel the same way. The coaches job is to win games. I'm sure Woodard wants to do well at Lamar and make a name for himself and maybe move on in a few years as I'm not ignorant to the fact FCS is not the top level of college football. He may want to get a bigger gig one day.
 6. ;D ;D ;D ;D LOL. Man, you are funny!
 7.
I think he earned that chance, but so far he hasn't been given the chance.  He pulled the QB position out of the toilet last year, maybe they'll give him a chance to do it this year.  If he doesn't, find someone that can.  It's that simple.  He earned it.
So have all the other players who aren't starting now. I'm not just talking about Lamar.
 8. Believe it or not a couple guys will be tailgating for that first home game in a couple weeks. Remember this is CCS first year and they are a 6 man program so the facilities aren't anything close to what WO-S or LC-M has. Then the first home game is Oct 1st versus Chester at 5pm.  If you go you might want to bring a lawn chair. Seating will be limited. Personally, I hope we really improve before playing Chester because they use to play 11 man football and were pretty darn good.
 9. Before the season is over I believe he will be the starter.
 10. No, but obviously you didn't read the bio's of Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson. Forcier was only the second QB in the history of Michigan football to start all 12 games as a true freshman and and was a honorable mention freshman all-american and  got beat out in the off season by Denard. I promise even if you guys played college ball the coaches know more about each of the QB's than you or I. I think Jeremy Johnson will eventually win the QB battle but we didn't lose yesterday because of Bevil. Even on the fumbled snap Kyle Gilligam took the responsibility for the fumble. Very mature on his part. As for as losing players I have never heard a negative word about D. Garrett. He is just a better college RB than Hussey. I do wish him the best in the future. Also, Prewitt did have a couple of TO's and had 4 TD's in three games. Bevil had 4 TD's in one game. LOL [Hidden Content] Should we label Clay Buchholz a thug for what he did in HS? Yea, I know all about it!
 11. I guess the coaches at Michigan suck too as they replaced a successful QB in Tate Forcier with Denard Robinson. Here is the bio of both players [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] I wonder how many of their fans are crying about Forcier being replaced today!  ::)
 12.
NHS1990 / GoDogs27....let's see...what was the final score last year???? And we have a much improved team this year....same bunch of kids that beat you last year plus a couple of extra nightmares for you (Quirante the "Beast"). Your vaunted defense hasn't held anyone under 250 yards of rushing yet....I promise you haven't seen speed yet like we have this year. Have you checked out our defense? Doesn't seem other teams are scoring much. Vidor rushes for 400+ yards on the whining puppies.....and after their refs call back two TDs for holding or some other dreamed up infraction....Mathews has to run out on the field after Nederville receiver catches a pass 10 yards out of the end zone and it's called a TD....we're there until 1:00 a.m. again...... Vidor 28 - Nederville 14.
robanadana, don't feel bad as you aren't going to get calls from the officials at Nederland. We had a RB score on a screen play from about 35 yards with forty seconds left in the game and the play was called back due to a lineman down field. (Lineman can be down field if the receiver is behind the line of scrimmage) Which I have video of the play and the RB was two yards behind the line of scrimmage when he caught the ball. We ended up losing by four pts. I say Vidor wins this year in a close hard fought game but Vidor has a running game to eat up the clock and keep Nederlands defense on the field a lot.
 13.
Despite only having 10 players and 9 by the end OCC defeats Texas Christian 80-71. Lions at most times had only 6 players available due to cramps in the 2nd half. OCC lead 55-34 at half. One player from the Lions was taken to the hospital due to a heart issue, no word on his condition. Hopefully just precautionary.
Just to update on the injured CCS player as I talked to a couple of the coaches at a birthday party and the kid has a thyroid problem which can cause heart palpitations. He is fine and back in Orange as I type. Sounds like Stranny has this covered as he was indeed suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion as I believe it was 97 there. Just to brag on my cousin's son Brett Foster, I heard he played a good game for a kid who never played football before much less QB! Thanks for all the well wishes and concern for our player. BTW, I'm not looking foward to playing Chester!!! LOL One other thing as the birthday party was for my brother and there were a couple hundred people there. One person was LC-M ex-HC David Williams who is very close to my brother and very interested in how the CCS program is doing. He told one of the coaches at CCS they should have the players drink supplements high in electrolyes the day before and during the game to cut down on those cramps.
 14. Congratulations to the Lions and their coaching staff on winning their first game. This was definitely a high scoring contest! LOL
 15.
Ok guys relax and dont get so defensive. 75% of my posts were just to get you riled up a bit. I am really not as 'childish' as it may seem other than trying to get a spark going. I know what kind of positive influence Matthews has had on Vidor, and I sincerely believe he is doing a lot to get that program turned around and heading in the right direction. Again, I do not like him on the field. There is a fine line between passionate and over the top, but he sounds like a helluva coach, AD, and person in general.
I am not from Vidor but I have known Jeff Mathews for 30+ years and he is one heck of a man, father, son, community leader, athletic director and football coach. The world would be a lot better place if there were more people like him. I have watched Vidor from afar and what he has done to that athletic program is incredible. As for as Jeff's actions on the field I promise you he isn't attempting to be anyone else but himself and he will fight tooth and nail for his kids. It is typical of someone from Nederland to hijack a thread meant for a positive comment from Vidor supporter praising their AD and having to add their two cents in about Nederland. Larry Neumann is a great man too but can't you guys start another thread if you want to talk about him?
 16.
wow, nevermind I was hoping that when the story came out that it would clear it all up.  For those that commented the BE article cleared it up either are just hoping it goes away or dont get it anyway.  Why would you wait till after week zero to check elgibility? Black markers? DOB's marked out and hand written in? A 19 year old not know how old he is?  Come on people?  This just gave fuel to the fire of people wanting to bash the program.  I was hoping to clear the water not put more mudd in it!!
Man, you didn't get my post. Do you know your age? I know mine and I'm a lot older than 20. I'd never bashed WO-S as several family members attended the school. Heck, I even tried to get my younger brother to move in with me as I lived in the WO-S school district at Oakwood Village Apts and transfer to WO-S but he wouldn't do it. I also tried to talking my parents in holding back my brother in 8th grade as his birthday is Sept. 28th. I had my father talked into it but my mom and brother were against the idea. Hope this clears the air.
 17. I agree with an earlier poster as this happens a lot with 19 yr olds. If a kid was held back a year in school prior to attending high school he would probably be 19 at some point during the football season. Once you make it to high school you only have four years of eligibility. Now, I do find it difficult to believe a soon to be 20 yr old didn't know his correct age.
 18.
Great story!  It was a good read for me as my son, a junior at Texas A&M, has recently shared with my wife and I that he feels called to the ministry and will go straight into seminary after graduating from A&M.  Well, I have had mixed feelings but stories like this kinda put things into perspective.
I know how you feel but if he is called into the service of the Lord, he'll never be truly happy unless he is doing the will of the Father. You're son might do amazing things that only he could do for the Lord. May your son live a blessed life at ATM and after he leaves!
 19. WOSgrad, thanks for posting this article as a few things were made more clear.
 20.
Zeno was a freak of nature and one might argue that he was the most physically talented player on the team while he was there and one of the most physically talented to ever go through the program. If he had had half of the intangibles of the other half of that defensive backfield, he would have gone even farther, and that is saying a lot.
I believe there were some off the field issues that cut short his college career or he might have gone just as far as the "other half of that defensive backfield." He, IMO had the intangibles and was tougher than the other defensive back for WO-S at that time.
 21.
Guys, please, I am sure that Mr. Garrity was poking fun at the spate of "this school violated UIL rules" threads rather than a actual allegation of any wrongdoing by Coach Dale. Boy, if this is what we are like a week before scrimmages start, I can't wait 'til Week 0.
Maybe he was making a reference to the movie Hoosiers as the guy coaching them was Coach Dale. If so, pretty funny to me.
 22.

The difference between WO-S and other teams in the area is that, other teams players reach their peak at those younger ages, while WO-S continue to get better year by year.
I can't believe you think that only the kids that go to wo-s have the ability to get better after a certain age. ;D
I never said WO-s only have the ability to get better, but this Bridge City team isn't the only team that has beaten Wo-s as underclassman. Ask the players from those teams how they were able to beat WO-s as underclassmen only to lose to them 40-0 as seniors. Yes,players from other teams might get better, but not to the level of WO-S.
Really beating WOS in sub varsity doesn't mean much because they play so many young kids on the varsity. In other words when you beat WOS in sv you are only beating the ones who aren't already on varsity.
Yeah, that sounds pretty much right to me.
 23.
He is a great man and great friend of mine. You to Dale.
Thanks DP, the feelings are mutual as I've looked up to you since I was 18 and we were sweating our butts off in Kings Gym. You are a great role model and I'm glad you are working with the young people at Community. You have a special gift as people are drawn to you. Again, thanks for the kind words!
