1. Better off than the Southland.....

Yo, snappa head... dat's what she said!!! It's a beautiful thing! Whooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! GOOD LUCK COACH ALVAREZ!
It is indeed a big time job, Dice.  He replaces a coach in Sam Harrell that was very successful, highly revered, and has won state championships (2000, 2001, 2004) at Ennis.  If Coach Alvarez does take the job, best of luck to him as he will have to hit the ground running.
harrell was also one of the innovators of the spread correct??? Oughta be interesting seeing what Ennis does offensively.
That is correct.  In fact, he was one of those who introduced the spread to the Southeast Texas area via the 2000 4A DII State Championship game (owww....that hurt).
God, I remember that game and WO-S had three DB's on that team go on to play college football. I always pull for my fellow Orange County teams when in the playoffs.
3. Man, that is a great HS job. Congratulations to the Coach and his family.
4. They will be fine as the coach will have them looking forward and not back.
5. I don't see why all the debating is going on. Lamar is leaving the SLC. If not then Dr Simmons and Coach Tidwell would have stated we are staying in the SLC when being asked about a change in conference affiliation. The decision has been made by Dr. Simmons, Coach Tidwell, Coach Tubbs and I'm sure there have been talks with coaches of non revenue producing sports and their thoughts. Coach Tidwell address this issue during his weekly radio show and Dr Simmons has address it in an interview in the Beaumont Enterprise. They both never stated Lamar wasn't interested in moving to a FBS conference. Originally posted by coachacola. The Coach Tidwell show is now on the Lamar website.  Go to the 19 minute mark to hear him talk about conference realignment. [Hidden Content] If they aren't interested in moving why even talk about it? I've heard from Coach Tidwell on three different occasions that we have a great recruiting class coming in for football.  8)

UNLV, I have some ocean front property in Oklahoma I'd like to sell you!
He already owns all the oceanfront property in Arkansas after his off the wall thoughts regarding the initial football head coaching hire. May as well expand!
No, he wasn't off by mentioning names as Lamar talked to same high profile names but in the end hired Coach Woodard. I know Lamar talked to Fran, Switzer and Coker. There may be a few others I don't know about. As for why Switzer wasn't interested he told Coach Tubbs he was too old to start a new program from scratch. I was told Fran and Coker stated the money wasn't right for their salary and the salary of their coaching staff's. Forgot, R.C Slocum was talked to but he is happy with his position in College Station. You should worry less about UNLV and Lamar University and more about SHSU. You obviously don't know a lot about what goes on within the Lamar athletic department.
7. Lamar hangs on after a late Demon rally for a 92-88 win.
8. At least now there won't be the travel expenses to Cali and Idaho.
9. Coach Gilligan is proud of the field turf they got down and I don't see any changes except maybe adding field turf to the outfield.
10. Good article, thanks for posting it coachacola.
11.
coming back to finish your degree is a great thing for both parties! Beat a really bad team in CA. After watching NWS on tv, not so sure we wont be 3-2 after wed! Dont here a lot of grumblings anymore about James not starting?  ::) He is better off the bench! Osas getting some PT is a good thing. And Stan Brown played much better after his stint in the RocHouse! Really hammered on the guy down low on defense.
Harris played lights out coming off the bench. Is he better in that role? How can you judge MJ in a starting role in one game? As for as NWS, that was a home game for them. Let's see how well they play on the road in the Montagne Center. About MJ; leading scorer Mike James, who came into the game averaging 15.1 points per game, started the game for the first time all season. Despite playing just 13 minutes, James still managed six points, three rebounds and three assists. UCA is a terrible team and I wouldn't take much from that game and I'm sure the team as moved on to getting ready for NWS. Coach Roc and Coach Mike McConathy are good friends and I'm sure they know each others teams pretty well.
12.
Good win. Still have our work cut out. James started because Harris was being disciplined. Coach Roc has been super pissed at him for a while. Also Allen Daniels, Matt Barrow, and I think some others are signed on as student managers and basically coming to finish school and improve those graduation rates Roc loves so much.
It's not just the men who have former student-athletes back in school as Coach Tidwell stated Darika Hill was back to finish her degree. He mentioned she is running the clock during practices.
13. Thanks for the clarification but still 9 catches for over 100 yards is pretty good. BTW, how tall are the SHSU CB's? Because if they are under 6-0, Hays had an advantage of out jumping them for deep balls. He is 6-3, 210 and I bet he'll be bigger and faster this year. I think Bevil is getting too much credit for throwing deep when it could have been calls from the OC.
14. The WAC Commissioner said something about April 1st as a target date.
15. He can play at the next level.
Marcus Jackson as well. Marcus 41 rec./728 yds/8 TD   played 11 games JJ  52 rec./745 yds/6 TD  played 9 games Both are good and may have a chance. I think both will be seniors in 2011.
I'm sorry, but you have to see what JJ does against major competition and not NAIA and DII competition.
JJ had a throat injury that kept him out of 3 games I believe with SHSU being one of them. Against other FCS programs he played like a stud. Ask McNeese or SE Louisiana about JJ Hays. Back to the topic of Sonnier, he looks to have talent to play DB as well as WR. I think he'll get the opportunity to somewhere at the next level. Best of luck to him and his family.
16. Agree mffl, I didn't think we would win this one on the road at UCA. But, they played with a lot of heart to come back from being down 20-5. Thanks for the updates LU4LIFE as I was keeping up with your updates on my phone as I wasn't at near a computer.
17. Lazeek, I think they stream all the home games on the LU athletic site.
18. Foster was at Nevada not Utah. But, I agree with your overall assessment.
19. Heard that too but he wouldn't disclose who the injured player was.
20. See there are more people than just me upset with your comments. The NFL and other Pro sports teams comparison is a little lame.   I'm done with this debate as I have more important things to do. Have a nice day! BTW, I listened to the Coach Tidwell show last night and he said there are more conferences than just the WAC looking at Lamar. He said he expected a big shakeup in the WAC, Sun Belt and C-USA in the next 6-8 weeks. He mentioned no conference has talked to him directly but he knows of a couple that are looking at Lamar.
21. Well deserved honor for the young man from Aledo.
22. Well, I read where Mike James is starting against UCA. I wonder why the change if he is better coming off the bench? Hope it sparks the team and we get a W.
23. You did graduate, right? I stated I lived in Pennsylvania as a child. I didn't say how many years. It was just a couple and the majority of my life as been in Texas. I'm no more a yankee than you are. Recruit better? We have Jeremy Johnson who was a Top 10 dual threat QB in the nation his senior year transfer from WVU. If you read another thread about recruiting you would know there is reports the RB from Kirbyville is going to sign with Lamar. He owns the school rushing record. If you read the thread on the High School forum he is a finalist for the Willie Ray Smith Award. He was All-State 1st team. [Hidden Content]_ Quote from AggiesAreWe. If Ford were to sign with Lamar, that would have the Cards getting the top two players (accolade wise) from this area the last two years. Johnson was a Willie Ray Smith winner along with being the SETXsports.com MVP and Super team MVP. Ford is this year's Super Team and SETXsports.com MVP and should win the Willie Ray Smith award. That's getting the best of the area. You don't know my opinion about recruiting but I'll tell you. First we have to hit the Golden Triangle and SE Texas hard. Then look at the Greater Houston area because there are so many players that some good players are left for schools like Lamar. After hitting the high school ranks hard I would be very selective in the junior college ranks to fill in holes left after signing high school kids. Lamar isn't going to beat LSU, Texas, A&M and those schools for talent and if you believe they can you are fooling yourself. You do know the difference in major college and small college football, right? Watching Lamar this year was like watching small college football. We are very talented at the WR position and they make some catches that were ESPN worthy. Maybe you can take time and watch the highlights of last season on the Lamar website and you can see for yourself. I don't get my feelings hurt by your opinion. I find it funny you support LSU more than you do Lamar from which you earned a degree. By the way, I'm not the only one who thinks it as I'll post someone else who has a similar opinion about this but will not use their name. bigred360 wrote: Man, don't call anyone a T-shirt fan as a poster on the other Lamar board said I was bashing him. Poor guy, can't support the university he got his degree from. He'd rather go see LSU because he was born in New Orleans. I saw that post. LU's game day experience is great, he needs to give it a shot. It's not like LSU basketball is significantly better than LU's either. I bet on a good day LU could beat LSU in basketball. It's fine if you casually follow another sports program. But what I hate is when I see kids going to LU with UT or A&M gear on. It just bothers me and it always will. I should point out however that LU has seen a very significant increase in the number of students with LU merchandise on themselves or on their vehicles. I believe alot of students received LU merchandise for Christmas because it has really picked up this semester. I myself own about 10 LU shirts. 1 hoodie, 1 wind breaker and 1 hat. The rest of your post doesn't cause me to want to respond.
