1.
I don't know that I would give a position out during Spring/Two a days...the game speed and the fact that Prewit has already won at this level, would keep me from making the change...I really don't care what was done in high school...I think he'll probably leave again(IMO)...unless he was truly home sick.  JJ, im sure would be a fine QB...I would see him in a back up role or maybe in some situational plays(this year), but Prewit has the confidence of this team  and for as young as this program is...everything helps.  I would even put JJ in as a wide receiver...KR, PR...but until the TEAM stops believing in Prewit, JJ will have to learn to be patient. But sadly, Prewit will be on thin ice all season, there won't be any room for mistakes....We'll have to see how he handles that pressure...Remember, your always one play away from going in the game...be patient JJ your time will come.
Where is he going to go? He just sat out this past season red-shirting at WVU. Then he is going to come to Lamar and play before transferring again? Where? Baylor? He'll have to sit out a year and loose a year of elibility. This happens all over the country; one guys starts at a college/university and gets beat out by a player recruited or transferring into the program. I say let's wait until Johnson proves he is the best QB on the team during the Spring/Summer. He'll need to earn it, not be given the position.   Let's revisit this thread in September.
2. Great job Lady Cards!
3. Happy New Years to everyone who visits and post on setxsports.com. May the New Year bring in healthy, wealth, happiness and love to all. To those with families, may you and yours be blessed all year.
4. Good post and I have a question Green Menace. What type of OOC teams do the Mean Green have coming to their new stadium in the next few years? I really don't think any Lamar fans thinks a BSC/AQ school would come to Beaumont. If so, that is wishful thinking on their part. I do think with the right architecture, Provost Umphrey could expand to 35,000-40,000.
5. He wasn't as WO-S was 5A back then and the never made it to the state championship game in that classification. The Mustangs won it when they had Kevin Smith for two straight seasons and lost in the finals a third straight year in the state championship and that was in 4A.
6. How many games this year have the Cardinals lead at half and lost the game? I can think of 4. Also, how many games has the other team had a player with a career night against the Cardinals? It has happened several times this season and a Tulane player scored 33 pts and had over 15 rebounds. Sorry, I'm so disappointed in this team I don't care to look it up and give the name of the Tulane player. I hope things turn around once conference starts!
7. If Coach Tidwell has the team in a position to win the Eastern division and the conference overall you will see more people at the womens game. One thing now is the students are out for the holidays. Once they get back there will be more students at the games especially if they are winning.
8.

I would ask this question though of my Bearkats or your Cardinals before getting on the lets move up bandwagon, and that is if we are just going to move up to the WAC with all the other Texas SLC schools except maybe SFA what is the point other than being able to say you are now "FBS" and you get to go to a toilet bowl on occassion and possibly bring in a bi name opponent once every 5 or 10 years?
The toilet bowl is still televised on ESPN, more regional and potentially national recognition, playing opponents that interest more people (even if they're OOC games), playing big BCS teams for a loss and garnering a bigger paycheck, being associated with higher profile schools (academic and athletic), getting higher profile recruits, and so on..
Sorry 99, gotta agree with this post. As a FBS football school you just get more national recognition than even the best FCS schools. Again, I'm not saying for Lamar to go FBS anytime soon.
9.
Orange Community Christian Lions 52  Hull-Daisetta Bobcats 46 CCS- Daniel "The Beast" Battise 18 points.
That is what I get for getting info from a female.  ;D Just kidding. Congratulations on the victory DP and to the Lions. Battise must be pretty good.
10. About to turn on the radio as I leave work. I am hoping for the best and prepared for the worst.
11. I agree with you JJ, but please name one player Texas recruited from Wyoming.  :D :D
12. I totally agree there is no way UT or A&M will EVER come to Beaumont. But, a second tier FBS school would come to Beaumont especially if they are in the same conference. Having said that, I am in no rush to go FBS from FCS as I'm sure there is a lot of money to be raised for that to be possible.
13. Yep, Janet Eaton a former Lamar assistant brings Wiley College to the Montagne Center.
14.
No one will ever make me understand or convince me of any reason why a team would be pressing in the last minutes of a game where they lead a team by 80 points. And I'll never understand why a team would foul in the last seconds just to get a possesion to have a chance of scoring 100 points while having an 80+ lead. Truly sad.
Totally agree!
15.
I am really interested to see how this affects attendance levels for Community Christian.  Not just for aspiring football players, but just b/c of all the increased attention they will receive due to the new team. Also, where will they play home games?
They are hoping it affects attendance at the High School level in a positive way. A lot of young men leave CCS after junior high and go to another High School. I think their goals for the future in to have an 11 man football team but that is years down the road. DP is correct in where the field is going to be constructed but this first year they won't have lights so Community Christian will have to play their home games during the day. Hope this helps to answer your question.
16. If the above is true and Chavis can't catch the ball then his talent is better suited for defense. You gotta do what is best for the team.
17. Looks like it's an All-Orange County team.
18. Well, don't call me out on a thread meant for young kids. I'm sure my brother would appreciate you sending some equipment but what they really need is money. They need to raise $50K by September. I played football from the time I was 5 years old until I graduated from High School. Then when Daniel was at Mansfield and I worked at Baylor Medical Center I use to hang out with him while he "broke down film" and talk football. Breaking down video was one of his duties there. Also, I was a Kinesiology major but joined the military before I finished my degree. Then after I left active duty I changed my major to nursing. So, I think I know a little more than most people who aren't coaches. Again, thanks for the equipment and I won't attack you personally if you do the same.
19.
Maybe this is BR360 chance at a coordinator since he has an in the supt. position.  Go for it you have all the answers plus you only have to coordinate half as many in other leagues.  You can hire aaw as radio man and stat guy.  What a perfect fit.
Dude you have a problem. I can't coach even if my brother wanted me to because I'm a RN and have to work every other weekend. I've never stated I have all the answers just opinions. Believe me, I don't get offended by questions from my patients or their families and some of those are life and death issues. Far more important than a football game or an opinion about play calling. You are a class act, as you use this thread meant for the young men at Community Christian and try to attact me. Couldn't you leave it on the Lamar forum? What a jerk! You must be upset that an RN with 15 years experience makes more than you.  ::) BTW, can you use proper English? Example, is your first sentence and your second. This would be better written. Maybe this is BR360 chance at a coordinator position since he has an in at the supt. position. Go for it, you have all the answers. Plus, you only have to coordinate half as many as in other leagues. You need to know when to end a sentence and the proper use of a comma. Where did you get your degree? There are grammar issues with everyone of your post!
20. Jeremy Johnson has never played WR that I'm aware of and that is probably our strongest unit on the team. 1. J.J. Hayes, 2. Marcus Jackson 3. Kendrick Prejean 4. Barry Ford 5. Josh Powdrill 6. Donte Lopez 7. Andre Bevil 8. Brent Walters. Then JJ is 6-2, 175 lbs so that is kind of thin even at the FCS level. If he were to gain 15 pounds between now and September I could see him as a RB but just because he gained a lot of yards running out of the QB position doesn't mean he can read blocks take the pounding every play and excel at the RB position at the college level. There are a lot of "if's" here but if somehow he was the best RB on the team after spring and summer drills and the competition is close between himself and Prewitt at the QB positon. I would leave him at RB. However, personally I don't see than happening.
21.
Prewitt will play regardless, even if JJ wins the spot at QB. Prewitt wants to be on the field.. I'm assuming he'd move over to receiver and work to get reps there. From what I hear, he is a great worker.
Agree and have stated it several times that Prewitt will play somewhere. WR, DB as he is a leader and hard worker. May need to get a little faster to play WR or DB but he'll put in the work to make it happen.
22. AggiesAreWe, you aren't going to change a few of these guys mind even with all the scout reports, recruiting services, college recruiters, video and stats. I bet even when Johnson wins the QB competition this spring and summer they will be calling out Whitten and Woodard as making a mistake.  ::)
23. Heard the guy was 6'6, 290 OT and wasn't recruited too hard because just this year he decided to go to college instead of working in one of the refineries here in SE Texas. Can't remember his name right now. Maybe someone can give me an assist here. Sounds alot like Coach Woodard's story before he went to junior college. I also heard Ford really wants to attend the same college as his friend Caleb Cucancic. Cucancic is being offered by North Texas, Baylor, TCU and Missouri. LU may want to rethink their recruitiment of Ford and Cucancic. [Hidden Content] Caleb Cucancic - Safety, 6'1", 180 lbs, 4.5 40 Both made the Beaumont Enterprise Super Gold Team. [Hidden Content]
24. Did Rick Orebo play RB while at WO-S? I know he got a scholarship from LSU as a FS. What happened to him after college? Is he in the area or living away for SE Texas? I remember playing against him from youth football in Orange County on up to High School but lost track of him after he went to Baton Rouge. He was a great athlete.
