1. Agree in HS it was one of the Cleveland brothers. However, in college it was Earnest Anderson who was drafted by Detroit.
 2. WO-S All-Time leading rusher, 3,257 career rushing yards DePauldrick Garrett/Lamar. West Orange-Stark RB DePauldrick Garrett is another in a long line of prospects to come from Coach Dan Hooks’ football factory in SE Texas. Garrett who is 5’8, 175 pounds and boasts 4.5 speed had a huge junior season in helping the Mustangs to an 11-1 record before falling to Giddings in the Class 3A Area Playoffs. 3.
No way to convince you of anything. He has a lot to do and learn before he is ready trust me.
Ditto.  :D ;)
 4.
How can some of you say some of the things you say and he has not played one down of college football.  He has missed a year of development, weights, and other things you need to get better, his legs look like sticks.  Now I hope he can play but I am not judging him on a weak 3a league, where he could just run away from trouble and pick up yards.  Lets see what he does before we put him in the starting role.
How do you know he didn't lift weights and do other things on his own to get better? At 6'2, 175 lbs he isn't thick but the pictures and video I've seen his legs are muscular. You don't run 4.4/4.5 on twigs. Agree, lets see a open competition for the starting QB. If I'm betting, my money is on Jeremy Johnson.
 5.
The Williams you are talking about is Eric, who went to UT.  You also have Kerry Franks, Sr., who like Anderson went to Okie State.  Kendall went to LSU.  Brian went to Georgia. I'm not sure of any more D1 backs (Gasilla, griff or td would know if there are more), but there have been plenty of solid backs who probably got DI-A or JC scholarships like Scottie Littleton, Terrence Brown, Jelmar (?) Rhodes and the Garrett boys.  Not to mention guys like Bruce Aven, who probably would have played some college ball if he had not signed to play pro baseball. Let me just put it this way, if Coach Hooks and Coach McCarty had to put together a team of WO-S alumni, depth at the running back position would not be a problem.
Thanks for both replies as I remember most of the names mentioned. As for Bruce Aven, he was a 1990 HS grad from WO-S as was my brother (LC-M). Aven signed to play baseball at Lamar before his professional baseball career. He was a heck of a football player and if I remember correctly the Mustangs went deep in the playoffs that year. Guess, I was wrong about the 1989 team as this site has WO-S losing to C.E. King in the first round. [Hidden Content]
 6. Well, I remember Brian Cleveland, Williams but can't remember his first name. Then I know Ernest Anderson and one other played at Oklahoma State. So, I know there have been at least 6 major college RB's from WO-S. I just can't remember their names. If you can name more go for it as I'm trying to make a point to a poster on another board.  ;D
 7. One I remember is Kendall Cleveland who played at LSU. Can someone name the top 5 or 6?
 8.

Dodge MADE (past tense) that much at UNT.  However, he is currently unemployed and those unemployment benefits only go so far.  He'll probably get some better offers but you don't know unless you ask.  And the worst he can tell you is no.
A Bob West article last month said the Dodge wants to be a quarterbacks coach.  Now that Jeremy Johnson is at Lamar, I wonder how interested Dodge would be in coaching him as the OC.  Lamar could probably offer him a competitive salary as OC compared to a QB coach at a big school, unless it's a BCS school like UT or OU.
There are things alumni at Lamar can do to get Coach Dodge. There are several people with deep pockets who are either alumni or have developed a relationship with the university. They could set him and his family up in a home, buy him a car and several other things outside what Lamar can do with a salary for a OC. Todd Dodge is still a legend here from his playing days at TJ to his coaching career. I know the kids he recruits don't remember him as a player but I bet their parents do. I'm sure there is someone who isn't a fan of Todd Dodge that will now post something negative. I wonder about people from SE Texas sometimes.  ::)
 9. For that opinion, you must be a friend, relative, alumnus of Beaumont Kelly or have some connection with Doug Prewitt....just saying... ;D Doug Prewitt did a great job the last 3 games for Lamar. But, he wasn't offered a scholarship to play QB from ONE college/university. You think he will be better than a major college transfer from the Big East Conference? Who by the experts and major college coaching staff had JJ as a Top 10 dual threat QB in the NATION. He was rated 5th best QB overall in the state of Texas. He was a Top 100 recruit out of the state of Texas. He was recruited by West Virginia, Baylor, Arizona, Houston, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Purdue, Southern Miss., TCU and Vanderbilt. No, not all of them recruited him as a QB but as an athlete. I'm the type of guy who always roots for the underdog except for Lamar, UT and probably UH. So, I like Doug Prewitt and hope he gets on the field at some position because he does have some talent. I just think JJ can do things that will make the O line look better and he has big play potential every time the ball is snapped offensively.
 10.
I've known JJ since he was a seventh grader and I've never once heard anything about him being a discipline problem of any type. I saw four Lamar games this year and can promise you he adds something that they were missing. He is a threat to score everytime he touches the ball. He may or may not be an improvement as a passer. I think he could contribute as a quarterback, or even as a receiver, or a runningback or as a defensive back if he is needed.
You just hit the nail on the head. He has the potential to score every time he touches the ball so he'll be on the offensive side of the ball. I like most believe that he will be a QB. We are loaded at the WR position.
 11. Me, I like JJWooten as a poster from SHSU as he doesn't call people names or try to start an argument. I think this is probably his honest opinion. However, I agree with sleepy and coachacola in given these guys a second chance. Really it is a small number of players when you think of an 85 man roster. I bet if he knew the ins and outs of the players at SHSU I'm sure with the number of players there you could find a character issue in a few players. Look at their red-shirt freshman RB transfer from Kansas State. What is he a quitter for leaving K-State? I don't think so.
 12. IMO, it's Gray. The guy is amazing!
 13.

Didn't take it personal. Gave you an answer 77
No, my question was where have the great running backs of the last few yrs gone?
Cook went DII and had a decent career from what I recall...Someone help me on the numbers. Hemmings played Safety at McNeese. Harmon is a Freshman at Lamar. Bertrand won't be heavily recruited next year because he ain't big (he'll play at 5'9" and around 200 lbs in 2011), and he ain't real fast (he'll run a 4.6 probably next year), but much like some of the others from above when the pads are on he is a player. Nelson will get some interest I am sure at the FCS level in 2012. He is 6'2" with decent speed (4.6), amazing hands and the ability to go get it! Peveto is only a Sophomore, but at 6'3" 200 lbs and growing (I suspect he will play LB at 220 pounds by Sr. yr) with very good speed for his size, I suspect he could be the first big recruit we have had in some time. There is another intriguing Sophomore that was on the team at years end with the size and drive to get some looks down the road as well (Reasons at OL is 6'3" 250 and growing). If he grows like his brother and ends up 6'5" 280+ he will be a beast. I hear unlike his brother he has a passion for FB!
Let's be perfectly honest, Bertrand won't be heavily recruited because he is a 5'9" WHITE running back.  If he were black the 5'9" would not matter.
Why don't you knock it off, really.  That's really uncalled for.  You always spew this garbage on the threads.  Do it again and you'll be outta there, perminantly!  Have a nice day!   :) :)
Thanks Soulja, this guy is really getting on my nerves. Talk about racial comments, they are a part of just about every post the guy makes. I hope one of you guys gives him the hammer pretty quick if he doesn't cut the crap.
 14.
Taylor is a great great shooter. Horrible defender. She kind of looks like a chicken when you see her actually play. That's the only thing keeping her from more playing time.
I don't know about looking like a chicken but agree she needs to get better on the defensive end. Also, Henderson is pretty good and the girl from Peru will be good in the future. You can just tell she has some athletic ability especially on the offensive end.
 15.
I don't think it is a done deal, but I will be surprised if he ever gets in to Lamar.
Maybe he can get in school as a transfer student which is easier than the admission requirements for freshman and he can get eligible by the fall. He'd have this spring and two summer sessions to get his grades in order. Maybe Coach Woodard can hold a scholarship out for him. I know it doesn't look good but I still hope he can make it into Lamar and play for the Cardinals.
 16. Must be a red-neck!  ;D
 17. I really can't believe some of the post made on this forum and to read this stuff from people in SE Texas makes me sick! I'm proud to be from SE Texas but a couple of these guys are making foolish statements that I know they would NEVER put their real names behind.
 18.
That is exactly how we win.  Give kids a second chance. The ones that mess up.............say see ya to em.  The ones that don't make you look like a genius.  You cannot and I repeat cannot win in FCS football without taking chances like this!
Sleepy, some people don't get it or they have some personal issues. If they don't remember making mistakes as a teenager or young adult (17-22 yr olds) they must be perfect. Like you stated give the kid a second chance and if he/she screws it up then the coaching staff should say good bye.
 19.
Still think they are one more post player away but they are now showing improvement on turnovers. Its the right time to really start coming together.
What they are missing is a 6-4 post who can defend and score in the paint. They are pretty good at the other positions with Plumley, Green, Loyd and Monique Whittaker. Then the red-shirt freshman from Aledo, (if you like football they are a two time 5A state champion with a all-world junior RB) Taylor Hayes is improving everytime I see her play.
 20.

From what I understand is Roc recruited a local kid that has no business on the LU roster. This player get's beat down daily according to one of LU's coach's. I thought Lamar hired because he was a very good recruiter, I have not seen this yet.
who cares if he recruits a bad player.  Especially if he is local?  What I can't stand are all of the crappy non local players he recruits.
What is upsetting to me is some of these guys have some talent. For some reason, it isn't helping us in the win-loss column. So, either way it comes back to coaching. Either they didn't recruit good players or they aren't doing a good job coaching them.
 21. I can't believe some of the stuff I read on this forum. ForeverADog well stated.
 22. We got the WR's to help a young QB but I see what you are saying.
 23. Great post and I agree with every word.
