1. I'm afraid all the local HS playoff games will hurt attendance at this event and the football game on Saturday. Several local teams are still in the playoffs. Wish it wasn't this way but it is good for HS football in the area.
2.
Lamar wins a close one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    24 - 21
Man, you nailed this one.
3. I was hoping the team would make it. Congratulations to Matt Johnsen and best of luck at the NCAA championships.
4.
Good for Coach Woodard and I lost any respect for Bevil when he laid down at SFA and was talking noise to his line.
What part of the team played well against SFA? I can't seem to remember. Was it the OL or DL? WR's, RB's, LB, DB, coaching staff, special teams? Did you lose respect for any other part of the team? Bevil did not do a good enough job to hold on to the starting QB position but the young man is very talented and can play muliple positions on the team. He played pretty well his first game in the slot. Heck, you don't have to believe me. Just ask the head coach.
5. Well, he did a few times on Saturday and made a couple of important 1st downs.
6. Read the article this morning but really don't agree. We are playing Lyon College for God's sake not UT who we'll be playing in a few weeks. That said he is the Head Coach and I'll continue to support him.
7. My question is why is Harper listed as a guard? He reminds me of a bigger Teddy Davis. He has unreal talent but can't shoot the ball with accuracy. If you don't believe me. Look at last seasons stats and the stats from the two scrimmages this year. James, Nelson, Miles, Lynch, Davis and Minor can all shoot the rock better than Harper. He needs to be a undersized 4. Most of his points come on lay-ups and dunks. I'm not "hating" on Harper. I just don't see his talent being used wisely. He has a good mid-range game and can dunk the ball with authority.
8.
I think it's telling that after all the praise that Roc gave Custer, saying he's really improved and he's the team captain, that Brown is starting instead of him.  For those who attended the scrimmages did Brown play better than Custer?
Defensively, probably yes but not rebounding or offensively (Custer is limited offensively) scores by offensive rebounds or an outside jumper. He doesn't have great post-up moves. JMO

You guys kill me. But I gotta admit, I'm getting a little excited myself. Nothing like a little fire under your butt to produce.
As come on. We have never udeservedly hyped a lens basketball team here!  Why it has only been 25 short years since we have had a decent team. .
Yall had a "decent" team since the early 2000's with the kid from HJ leading the LU team.
Coach Roc guided LU to its first SLC regular-season championship in more than 20 years in his second season with an 13-3 conference mark.
10.
Lamar wins a close one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    24 - 21
Hope you are right DP.
11. Personally, I don't think he wants to upset Miles and Harper. By starting them early in the season and giving others time to out-perform them he can tell them they lost their starting jobs on the court. Then it won't be as big a deal as the HC starting a new guy from day one. It going to be hard to deal with all the ego's that go with a couple of players who have started the past couple of seasons. Lamar just brought in better talent this year. I promise you this will not be the starting line-up in a month.
12. Streaming all the men and women basketball home games. All the football games have been streamed. Then Lamar's video coordinator, Clint Burgess said the hope to stream all the baseball games. Next year, they will include volleyball and soccer with a possibility of streaming some road games with those sports. The video feed will be enhanced by play-by-play commentary from Lamar's announcers. Those would be Dave Hofferth the voice of Lamar University men's basketball for over 30 years and News Director Harold Mann of KLVI. This is a great step in the right direction for Lamar University and the fan's.
13. Just giving ya a hard time.  ;) First game I predicted a win that I remember unless I did versus Langston or Webber International. Hope it doesn't bite me in the rear-end as you are right. They have a good team and went on the road and beat a Big Ten school in Minnesota.
14. Great news for me as I have to work every other weekend!
15.
Ah, listen to the masses once again getting a little excited. You guys kill me. But I gotta admit, I'm getting a little excited myself. Nothing like a little fire under your butt to produce.
You kill me. All I've done is supply stats, compare present players with past. Give my opinion who will start and why. I've posted the bad as well as the good. I stated I don't see Devon Lamb starting or playing major minutes and he lead the nation at the juco level in scoring at 27 PPG. I have stated I believe they will be fun to watch but I have not stated anyone will be All-Conference including heralded newcomer Mike James. I have not stated where I think they will finish in the conference and how they will play if they make the SLC tournament this season. As for other posters I haven't seen them talking about a conference championship, All-SLC players or predicted a record for this team. BTW, I've seen Coach Tubbs at both scrimmages and AD Coach Tidwell this past one. They looked like they liked what they saw in the scrimmage.
16.
I'd expect Davis and Adams to spell one another, which will give us a deep threat at all times. And both are big guards, one being tall and rangey at 6'6" and the other being stout at 6'3" and 200+. No more little guys that have trouble getting good looks and shots off. PG James / Harris / Miles / James 2G Miles / Lamb / Adams / Adams 3G Davis / Adams / Davis / Davis PF Nelson / Harper / Brazier / Nelson C  Custer / Brazier / Harris / Custer I think Roc will have a lot of different combonations starting depending on the matchups. Which will be a great benefit to have.
Agreed for the most part but Nelson doesn't play like a PF. IMO he is more of a SF. I'm just comparing him with Lamar Sanders. He is better with the ball, just as good passing, defense and rebounding. Then IMO he appears more athletic. That said, I would love another player with Sanders focus and intensity.
17. Yep, thanks for catching that. Brandon Davis is the one lighting up the scoreboard from downtown.
18. So, they want to be a big fish in a small pond? Guess that is the best decision for their athletic program. Besides football and occasionally men's basketball you don't hear too much from Montana's athletic department.
19. Could happen JJ but it sounds like you are hoping Lamar get's beat. I thought you pulled for all SLC teams OOC. Are our fan's too outrageous for you to pull for a Cardinals victory.  :D
20. Lamar has to play error free to come up with a W. I think this is the game Coach Woodard made a statement with his actions and I expect positive result. Lamar 14-10 in the rain. If the rain stops or misses us I think each team will score more. In that case, the Cardinals 28-24
21.

Something has to be done about the offense.  No rushing TD's is more a problem with the O-line the the RB's, although the play calling and offensive philosphy also has contributed to the problem.  Still, the teams with the best O & D lines generally win championships.
Someone finally gets it!  For all of his knowledge of offensive schemes and plays, Todd Dodge never understood the urgency in getting quality offensive and especially defensive linemen.  Loaded up the scholarships with wide receivers.  *sigh*
I thought that was a given and look at our roster as to how many OL and DL we have recruited over the past two years. Heck, we lost a TE recruit who signed a LOI, then returned to junior college and is now playing at the University of Miami. He is a stud. Let's see I count 12 OL and 9 DL on the roster. Every year you hear coaches are looking for OL or DL help be it in the High School level, college level or professionally. They are the ones on offense that you don't want to hear their number called. On defense you want to hear their names as they are rushing the passer, maintaining their responsibilities, stopping run plays directed toward the middle and rush the passer. The DE function is to attack the passer or stop offensive runs to the edges of the line of scrimmage and maintain containment.
22. Nicholls State is in financial trouble and may drop all their sports to DII or DIII.
23. Harris averaged 48% on treys last season at the juco level. I think he is shooting that good are better in the practice and scrimmages I've seen. With him, he isn't toeing the line but hitting them from downtown and he has the fastest release I've seen in years at Lamar. I agree with badndn as our guard are taller than in the past. It will help Harris and Lamb get to the basket on drives to the basket. Nelson and James have range out to the 3 point line and can drive and finish. I'm taking a little liberty with James as I haven't seen him play. But, have been told he can hit the three, dribble drive to the basket and pass to the open player whether he is in the lane or around the ark of the 3 point line or he can score at or above the rim.
24. I looked at schedules for SHSU, SFA and MSU and they all have 11 game schedules. I assume that is the amount a FCS team can schedule in the regular season.
25. Going to get a paper so I can read the rest of the article but IMO this is the key to a success team this season as they (newcomers) can all shoot the rock. Well except for Lamb, but he is a rebounding monster at the guard position and he is jet fast getting to loose balls.
