She is a far better defensive player than I ever thought about being. lol. She is the complete player. She can play Guard, forward, Center or run point. She still has things to work on as any player does. If you couldn't tell I'm a fan lol
More than just a fan, I believe you were a member of the Elite Eight team, right? -
Lamar to play Red-White scrimmage on Thursday

Gotta work, but if I get off in time I may catch a few minutes. -
Obviously, you guys know more about the situation there that I do. So, I won't look stupid and post something foolish, I'll take it that young Dodge will stay at UNT.

There is no way Kalis Loyd will be second team. If it wasn't for Plumley I'd say she could win POY honors. -
Went to the 1st half of the scrimmage. LU jumped out to a 14 point lead early but let St. Marys go on a 20-2 run (They were shooting lights out.) and took the lead. LU came back and led at half by 2 I think. Taylor Hays and Frenchie didn't play. Frenchie said she tweaked a hamstring but she will be ready during the season. Not sure what was wrong with Taylor. What I took from the first 20 minutes is Jenna is an even better leader than last year. Also, she had a couple NBA deep 3s. Mo Whittaker is very talented and will take over for Darika nicely. Dani Heithoff is to soft to play backup center. We could use a better option behind Trae Smith. Ang Green was great on defense slowing and stopping their PG. Also was very surprised how tight of rotation Tidwell and Wells ran. Jenna played the entire half and the 4 subs that came in (Jas Henderson, De Anna Patterson, Danielle Heithoff, and #12) played limited minutes. I would normally expect all players getting minutes and being able to fight for playing time but didn't see it in the first half. All in all it was a C performance from the Cardinals. Not much intensity after coming out hot but looked great early. Several missed open layups and sloppy defense. We should be fine this year though.
Agree with you assessment, but the game was a lot closer than it should have been. I stayed for the whole game. Two players that did not play due to injuries were Taylor Hayes and Myriam Igoufe. They will be in the rotation if not starting. -

He is smallish 6'0, 194 lbs but I've seen smaller at the FBS level. Then look at all that he accomplished at SLC. Part of his bio. at UNT; : Passed for 3,445 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2007 … Carried 131 times for 772 yards (5.5 average) and 13 touchdowns … Was named to the 45th annual 2008 PARADE All-American High School Football Team … Was recently selected to the EA Sports First Team All-America Multi-Purpose squad for 2007 … Was the 2006 and 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year … Shared Texas Sports Writers Association 2007 Class 5A All-State Football Team Offensive Player of the Year honors … Was named to the Texas Class 5A All-State team for the second straight season. He knew the system his father was running at UNT so a lot of people thought he would start from day one at UNT. You can count me as one. Then he recruited others. Chase Baine 6'0, 210 lbs out of Lake Dallas HS. John Dodson, 6'0, 195 lbs out of Bishop Lynch HS. Derrick Teegarden, 6'0, 177 lbs out of Odessa HS. Derek Thompson 6'4, 220 lbs out of Glen Rose HS and Nathan Tune, 6'4, 226 lbs out of Celina HS. Another aspect of recruiting a QB at North Texas was the fact Riley Dodge was on campus and is the son of the Head Coach. Honestly, if I'm a QB recruit under those circumstances I probably would not have signed with UNT either. Human nature, a QB recruit would have to prove being a lot better than Riley Dodge or the coaching staff would start the Head Coach's son. Just my opinion as to why more top tier QB's didn't sign with UNT under Coach Dodge's watch.
Riley is a good "low level FBS" quarterback and I'm thankful he's at UNT. But, the fact is, even with all his high school awards, accomplishments and accolades, Univ of Texas originally recruited him as a defensive back. Riley de-pledged UT when his dad took the UNT job. He reshirted(medical) his freshman year, then played wide receiver until he got hurt in the Rice game of '08. Thompson is the only legit QB, along with Vizza that Dodge recruited. Nathan Tune was a walkon under during the Daryl Dickey days Teegarden is a wide receiver and will probably never play QB at UNT. to be honest, there is some truth to having a highly touted QB, who happens to be the coache's son, plying QB. Could have scared off some good ones. I hope Rile stays healthy since we have him for two more years. He's a fighter.
I thought UT recruited Dodge to play WR with his SLC teammate Tre' Newton in the same class. As for as Riley Dodge finishing out his college career at UNT, it depends on where his father lands. If he is at a FBS school Riley will probably stay at UNT as he has already red-shirted (medical) once in 2008. If he (Todd Dodge) were to go to a FCS school, I can see Riley transferring and playing either WR or QB.

Until we do the following, we can't expect to win on the road. Turnovers, as it kills drives, gives the other teams offense more opportunities. TO's cause the coaching staff to lose confidence in the person turning the ball over; be it passing or by fumble. Establishing a running game offensively. Need to average a least 4 yards per carry as it helps with clock management. Keeps the defense off the field. 3rd down on offense and defense is extremely important. Offensively, we have to keep the down and distance manageable and convert on 3rd down situations. Defensively, we need to make them one dementionable preferably stopping the run and making them pass the ball. Keep them in 3rd and long situations and make them punt the ball. Would be great if the defense caused a couple of TO's. Defensively as a unit we have to tackle better. Then special teams we have to play better and not just the kicker. We have to play smart and not have penalties that keep their drives alive. We have to protect the punter and kicker with good blocking up front to prevent a blocked extra point, FG or punt. The coaching staff has to have confidence that the kicker can up points on the board once Lamar gets into the red-zone. We can't get into the 20 yard line and not come away with points. Obviously, Lamar would prefer a TD but they have to at least nail a FG and come away with points. Then I hope the special teams coach does away with the pooch kicks and attempts to kick the ball inside the 10. It is hard for me to believe a college player can't kick the ball deeper than we have this season. The above issue with special teams leads to the other team having great field position and only needing 20-30 yards to be within scoring position.
You can support a team without going to the games. I support the Kats, I still buy t-shirts and hoodies, and I promote the school where I am. Attendance at a game doesn't make you a fan, it's like the good ol' saying, siting in a garage doesn't make you a car.
You have been supporting the Kats the past 5 years, right?
BigRed, actually 6, and this will be my 7th. I was a Kats fan in HS when I was deciding which college to attend. Every fan has to start some time, I'm just a bit younger than most fans. However, I will say this, I'm not a t-shirt fan like a lot of people I went to school with. My school was a heavy A&M area, but it seemed like after UT won the national championship, I saw more UT shirts than I had ever seen in my life. That reason alone is why I never wanted to go to UT or A&M, THAT is a badnwagon fan, not a true supporter
First since your not an Lamar alumnus, but an alumnus from another rival school you couldn't understand. For you to post this makes no sense. If your not an alumnus but a local who supports Lamar because it is in your back yard then the story is different. I can see if we had 10 years of losing football teams then you might become disillusioned and stop supporting the team. But we have less than one season under our belts. Anyone who stops supporting Lamar now isn't a fan worth having anyways. For myself who will graduate this year and become an alumnus of the university my support is life long. I want us to win but if we don't I'm not going to stop supporting the team. Lamar means much more to me than just a sports franchise, it's where I have been tailored into the person I am today.
Actually, I do understand because Coach Whitten drove our program into the ground in his final years. I was fortunate to come to one of Ron Randleman's last games with PNG great Dustin Long right before the deep playoff run. Whitten inherited a great team and did nothing with it. I know what it's like to be excited about a season, your players, your hopes for the year, and then to see them piddle away with poor coaching. What Whitten has done to the Cards offense over the last few games is what he did to the Kats offense in the last two years. How Bomar got drafted with Whitten as a coach, still amazes me. Lamar is that back yard team that I want to see do well against non-SLC competition. heck, I want the whole SLC to perform well and boost the conference as a whole. It benefits everyone in the conference when there's success. I saw a lot of people give up on Sam and stop donating to the school because of how poorly the football team is doing, in my mind, that's unacceptable. If you don't want to support the football team because they're putting a poor product on the field, that's one thing, but I don't think you should ever stop supporting your alma mater. If you don't go to games because you don't like what's on the field, that's fine. If someone stop supporting Lamar entirely (not buying shirts, not donating to scholarships, not visiting campus) because of the football team, that's unacceptable in my book.
Nice post, as your thoughts were clearly verbalized and easy to understand your train of thought on this subject. -
Derrick Hall plans to play football for Lamar
bigred360 replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Athletes can't do anything except give a verbal commitment at this time. Junior college players, can sign scholarship agreements in late December, once their sophomore seasons have ended and they have credits to graduate. National signing day always falls on the first Wednesday in February. That is the first day a high school player can sign who doesn't have credits to graduate in December. A December graduate can enroll at their school of choice and participate in spring football instead of waiting until attending summer school. -
Why Dodge? Why do you think he would be the "man that could get it done"? His record is about the same as the one we have now. Im not trying to start anything........I just dont understand how he could be any better or worse. Help a guy understand....would ya?
I'm not going to dog a current Lamar coach as I've posted earlier I'm not qualified to make a decision on firing a guy or not. However, the Lamar offense has been terrible this season and even though Todd Dodge was fired as Head Coach at UNT he is a better offensive coach in my opinion. Take that and a dollar and you might be able to buy a coke. :D

Coachacola I have learned you are the guy with the answers about anything Lamar. However, I find that difficult to believe because Lamar was paying Coach Tidwell as the WBB HC $135,000 plus benefit's which I believe is a car, up do now he has been living in the dorms and a meal plan as he eats for free at the dinning hall. That was his salary before becoming WBB HC/AD. I would think Coach Woodard would make more as football is a revenue producing sport and the Lady Cardinals BB team averaged about 2k last season.

I have several relatives and friends who have been in the coaching profession or they are currently coaching. That has no barring on my knowledge of the game of football and neither does your relationships cause you to know more. Honestly, I am very surprised that the son of a high school coach who won a state championship thinks he knows as much about the game as people who it is their JOB to know the game. Thanks for the prior post, as we can all see you are a fair weathered fan. Support when they win and stay away when they aren't. ::)
Why give your money to Lamar when they are producing what they have in the past few games. There's a difference in supporting the University and supporting a poor product on the field. Would you go to the local theater if they always had choppy films just because they are a local business that needs supporting? I doubt it. College athletics is like any other business. If you want support then you need to produce a consistently good (doesn't have to be great) product.
You have been supporting the Kats the past 5 years, right? -

[Hidden Content] Just giving my thoughts on the article as not to break any new rules. Todd Dodge stated he will keep all options open. He mentioned coaching at the right high school program or a QB coach and/or an offensive coordinator at the college level. Coach Dodge mentioned his first thoughts is he would like an opportunity to be a QB coach at the DI level program in the state of Texas. He thinks one of his assests is having a unique recruiting perspective. Sure hope Coach Woodard is monitoring this situation if Coach Whitten decides to leave or Coach Woodard wants to make a change at the OC position.
Have a hard time believing Todd Dodge would come to LU as an offensive coordinator. He would make more as a high school coach/ad. Would love to see it but I believe he has his eyes on bigger schools.
Sleepy, you mean Lamar doesn't pay their OC or DC over $100,000 annually? Then are very few HS's that pay that type of money for a HC/AD. But, there are a few. I don't know the budget for football but if I was Coach Tidwell I would give Coach Woodard a raise and pay Coach Dodge about $150,000 to be OC. Then if Lamar becomes successful on the field a promise he would be the first choice to be the next Head Coach if Coach Woodard were to leave for a better job. If the above isn't possible at Lamar maybe he'll end up at UT as the QB coach. I know Greg Davis is the QB coach but maybe he would give up that hat for the Longhorns to land Coach Dodge.

I guess AD didn't make the changes in his game to make it to the NBA. Yes, I thought he had NBA potential but he had a lot of work to do to make himself NBA ready. Work on his perimeter game, shooting with range, playing defense and hitting the weights heavy.
So what made you think he was NBA potential if you listed some of the most important attributes it takes to go to the next level.
Something you can't coach and that is scoring. If you could everyone would be "scorers". AD was a scorer at the college level but he wasn't a good shooter with range. 6'6 is tall for the SLC but not in the NBA and 190lbs isn't a NBA body. -
I heard or read on another site we are starting a freshman QB at Georgia State. Hopefully, there will be improvement offensively.
