1. [Hidden Content] Just giving my thoughts on the article as not to break any new rules. Todd Dodge stated he will keep all options open. He mentioned coaching at the right high school program or a QB coach and/or an offensive coordinator at the college level. Coach Dodge mentioned his first thoughts is he would like an opportunity to be a QB coach at the DI level program in the state of Texas. He thinks one of his assests is having a unique recruiting perspective. Sure hope Coach Woodard is monitoring this situation if Coach Whitten decides to leave or Coach Woodard wants to make a change at the OC position.

Regarding all of the tailgating rules currently in place at Lamar, I think the folks at LU and the City of Beaumont are missing an incredible opportunity to generate more fan support and money for the university.  For a game that starts at 6pm on Saturday, why only open the parking lots at noon on game day?  Why not clear the lots at noon the day before (that's when classes end), and allow the motor homes and trailers to set up and begin their partying then?  Charge money and allow the big supporters to stay the night in the parking lot.  Allow LU or BPD officers to work security at all of the entrances and throughout the parking lots, and use a portion of the fees to pay them.  I am willing to bet the big-time tailgaters would gladly pay the extra money to be able to set up an entire day earlier.  I know we're not the same as Texas A&M, but tailgaters there pay big bucks to show up Thursday afternoon and don't leave until Sunday.  It's a win-win for the university and the supporters.  Plus, it would prevent the game day jam of folks trying to get in and set up just 6 hours before kickoff.  Perhaps the LU folks should ask other universities how they do it and conduct a cost analysis to see if it's worth changing.
Good post.
Great post, but someone needs to get the message to the athletic department and not let the issue die on a message board.
 3. Thanks for the link and update on these two players. I guess AD didn't make the changes in his game to make it to the NBA. Yes, I thought he had NBA potential but he had a lot of work to do to make himself NBA ready. Work on his perimeter game, shooting with range, playing defense and hitting the weights heavy.
1kAtKiller, you made a great post earlier in this thread. My dream as a teenager was to be a coach. But, life had me join the military for several years. Then after enrolling at Lamar as a kinesiology major, I visited with my brother often as he was already in the coaching profession although he is younger. I seen how hard he worked. How many hours a day he put in and how many days a week he worked. Especially his work load during football and track as he was an assistant in both sports. So, I decided to change my major to nursing. I stated all the above to get to the point that only another coach has the right to judge another coach. People who aren't in the profession have no clue what it takes to be successful and sometimes as a coach you can do everything right and still lose. You won't see me posting anything negative about a coach at any level. Now, that doesn't mean I always agree with their actions.  ;D
This has to be one of the most rediculous posts i've read to date. are you seriously sitting there stating that no one has the right to question a coach unless they're a coach themselves? LOL, i'm not "in the profession", but i can bet you i've forgotten more about this game then you'll ever know about! And for katkiller, ask jim harbaugh, or jimmy johnson how long it takes to turn a program into a traditional winner, or nick saban, urban meyer, i guess i could go on, but you get the point. Set goals for your team, high ones and when the team has one to shoot for, you create teamwork, have your team working together for a common good. Don't settle for the same old generic "well it's our first year, i don't expect us to win". Those are nothing but excuses. And excuses are signs of weakness. The most ridiculous part of your post is the fact you aren't in the coaching profession but think you have "forgotten more about this game then you'll ever know about!". Please enlighten me as to how you are going to prove your statement. Then again you don't know more than the vast majority of high school coaches who are at the varsity level. You definitely don't know more about the sport than coaches at the FCS or FBS divisions of DI college football. You show how smart you are when comparing Jimmy Johnson with coaches turning a college program into a "traditional winner". At the University of Miami, Howard Schnellenberger had already turned that program into a "traditional winner".Then, at Dallas maybe you heard of the Herschel Walker trade? [Hidden Content]. That was the reason for his success in Dallas. Look at his time with the Miami Dolphins. His success with Dallas didn't translate to the Dolphins as his best record there was 10-6 in 1998. In 1996 he was 8-8, 9-7 in 1997 and 9-7 in 1999; his four year record for the Miami Dolphins was 36-28. [Hidden Content]
how many rings does he have? and mister, i could have sworn it takes 11 on both sides of the ball to win football games not just one running back. correct me if i'm wrong, but not on grammer, that's you're way of deflecting the facts and truths i'm saying. i'm not a coach, but i grew up a son of one (H.S. VARSITY State Champ OC/D1 Letterman), a nephew of another (H.S. Varsity HC/College HC/D1 Letterman) and a long line of coaches that carry my same last name, so i know just a little about this game. so there's your proof.
You call that proof? I have several relatives and friends who have been in the coaching profession or they are currently coaching. That has no barring on my knowledge of the game of football and neither does your relationships cause you to know more. Honestly, I am very surprised that the son of a high school coach who won a state championship thinks he knows as much about the game as people who it is their JOB to know the game. Thanks for the prior post, as we can all see you are a fair weathered fan. Support when they win and stay away when they aren't.  ::)
don't put words in my mouth. all i said was i knew more than you. which is evident by your remark about being a coaches son doesn't mean you know more about the game. any coach will tell you they would love to have coaches sons on their squad. and if they said it didn't matter, then they prob weren't winning many games. but in your case you never put on a jock anyway so you really wouldn't understand.
There you go talking about something you have no knowledge of. I played CB as a sophomore. Then was moved to free safety as a junior. As a senior, I was moved to offense and played wide receiver. I never said sons of coaches don't know more than the average person. But, they don't know more than people who their occupation is to know the game of football. I'm very confident in my knowledge of football and will not lose any sleep having you think you know more. You don't do it for a living so it really doesn't matter. I do wonder about your knowledge of football at the NFL level if you don't think the Herschel Walker trade didn't have any effect on the success of the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990's. Your comment was something about having 11 players on both sides of the ball to win football games and not one running back (Herschel Walker). Well, the trade lead to Dallas getting 3 players from the Minnesota Vikings. They got draft picks that lead to them getting Emmitt Smith, Alexander Wright, James Williams, Alvin Harper, Dixon Edwards, Darren Woodson and Russell Maryland. Emmitt Smith RB, James Williams DB, Alvin Harper WR, Dixon Edwards OLB, Darren Woodson SS and Russell Maryland DL, all started for the Cowboys during their Super Bowl run in the 1990's. They all got to Dallas via the HW trade. Smith, Woodson and Maryland all made at least one Pro Bowl and Emmitt Smith is the NFL All-Time leading rusher. You can continue this debate but I'm done as this thread started as a game thread about the North Dakota game. Maybe it will get back to it's original topic.

 7. Sorry, I thought you were directing your post to me. That said, I would hope a 2nd year program with 12 games of football played as a team and 12 seniors for leadership would be considerably better than a first year start-up with 1 senior. Again, congratulations on your victories. Since we played USA a few weeks ago, why are you worried what someone on this forum post?
 8.
HoopInsider_Coop with the terrible QB play, should Lamar go out and recruit a QB or is Bevil the answer ? one of the WO-S boys...
HoopInsider_Cooper played basketball at LC-M and is a Bear alumnus. Hunter Gonzales is the QB for the Bears but I don't think he'll play that position in college. Plus, he is a great athlete and plays several sports. He may decide to play college ball in a sport other than football.
Sorry, don't agree for several reasons. One, being Lamar just spent about $30 million on the new athletic complex, the suites, press box, turf, scoreboard and renovating Provost Umphrey Stadium. Two, football is being 110% supported by the university administration and the athletic department. Three, this is our first year as a start-up program and we are all guilty of expecting too much too soon. Four, the students voted for the return of football by 78% and have a football fee added for each credit hour they are taking. Five, have you been to a home game yet? The tailgating and game day atmosphere has been great for every game and those spots were sold with a three year commitment. Now, within the next three years Lamar needs to be competing for the SLC championship. So give the coaching staff some time as LU has the best facilities in the conference. This is a major recruiting advantage. We will have the off season strength and conditioning program (Lamar has never had a strength and conditioning coach) and we have two coaches that is their job to get the returning players bigger, stronger and faster. Then add a couple recruiting classes to add depth and better athletes. It is way too early to compare this current squad and those 20 years ago.
They can spend as much as They want....its all hype.  Just wait and see what the attendance is next year or two.  Then remember my words.....it'll be just like 20 years ago...minus 30 million dollars.  Haha
wouldsmith, Rome wasn't built in a day and this program won't either. It takes time to build a start-up program. As it is hard to recruit players when all the coaches had to show them of the facilities was pictures. Then there were no games for the athletes to experience the game day atmosphere. Now, they can experience everything first hand and I hear the facilities are as good as FBS level programs but on a smaller scale. You don't sound like or appear to be a Lamar University fan so this is my last post to convince you the program will never be dropped again and to have patience for success on the field as the team will get bigger, stronger and faster in the off season program. Then there is spring practice and any kids who Lamar recruits can enroll in the spring semester if eligible and can take part in spring practice. Am I happy with the losing? No, I don't think anyone who is honest can tell you we are happy with losing and not appearing to getting better in certain areas of the team. However, most on here realize starting a football program is a process.
you seen the team?..a bunch of setex kids
I assisted in recruiting Marines for a month, I made sure they wanted to be there and I made sure I wanted them there.  I can only assume it's very similar @ Lamar...maybe there are some players that were a disappointment from the area( I guess that's what you're getting at)...I would have to say, you can get wayyy more for your player locally.  You can research the attitude and player's down falls thru teachers, peers, little league coaches etc...it's kinda expensive to do that out of the area..IMO
Actually, recruiting local players is a bonus for Lamar as they can give them partial scholarships and spread out the scholarship limits. Now, I don't think we should recruit a kid just because he is a local player. But, if he is good enough to play at the FCS level I'm all for loading up on SE Texas kids because besides being able to spread out the scholarships they will put butts in the seats at Provost Umphrey.
 12. Great statement ForeverADog, as I didn't think about the seniors who have laid the foundation for the future of this program. Thank you for coming to Lamar each and everyone one of the seniors. They had some very difficult times especially that first season.
 13.
You give Logan and Hussey some blocking and they can run the football.....Neither are blazing fast but I remember when Florida State had an All-American named Amp Lee who they said only ran a 4.65 forty.....Any RB needs blocking no matter how fast they are, unless he is Barry Sanders....
Emmitt Smith ran a 4.6 in the forty and I've seen film on him since high school. There were a ton of plays he made yards out of nothing. Now, I'm not comparing a NFL HOF RB to the guys at Lamar just stating a fact you don't have to run a 4.4 to make over 3 yards per carry and maybe make a rushing TD sometime this season.
 14.
You needed to bring up South Alabama why? You could have made your point without painting in a negative light a team that beat Lamar 26-0. South Alabama is doing just fine with our creampuff schedule and we don't have to lose 71-3, 38-10, 26-0, or 31-6 to be made a better team. ::)  ::)  ::) :D  :D  :D
Sorry, from one nurse to another just look at the names on your schedule the first and second year your team took to the field in competition. I don't care what the method of starting their program at South Alabama is using with the NCAA. The Jaguars played 12 games together before playing Lamar who is a true first year start-up and had only played 6 games. No excuse for losing and I did congratulate your program. But, to say you aren't in your second year is just a play on words. Heck, you guys have 12 seniors in your program so USA is older than Lamar too.   Lamar is playing a much harder schedule and that is just a fact. Congratulations on your victories and maybe you can keep it going next year.
 15. Great accomplishment for this program; as it is very young and the future looks great with all the returning players and Coach Dewi Hardman is only in his 3rd year at Lamar.

Not sure about you guys - but playing two FBS teams (Mississippi State, NC State) plus a FBS-bound UTSA program, does not sound like a cupcake schedule... Okay, back to your regularly scheduled South Alabama smack!
I don't care what the method they are using with the NCAA rules is. They have played different schools the past two years. I believe 7 games last year and a 10 game schedule this season. They beat us pretty good but they had several games under their belts and honestly they have played a cupcake schedule especially last year.
 18. This will be a great experience for the women's soccer program as they are young and will only get better next year. Congratulations to the Lady Cards!
 19. Are you doing the magazine this year and if so when will it hit the stores? Thanks for your reply.
 20. How highly is Ford being recruited? I mean are the BCS schools showing him some love?
 21. I got the okay to make it public, as Community Christian school is starting a 6 man football program. DP goes to Community Church and I believe he works with the basketball team. So I wasn't attempting to keep a "big secret" from everyone but wanted to let DP to know as I thought he may have already heard. Sorry if I offended anyone as that was not my intention.

The special teams had problems today with a blocked extra point, personal foul attempting to block a punt and the kicker kicked the ball out of bounds. Then they keep Pooch Kicking off and giving the other teams offense great field position.
