1.
What about WBB attendance this year? In the couple of games during conference play, we seemed to get at least 800, maybe even 1k if I'm not mistaken. I would love to see 3,000 fans get out to see the Lady Cards for one game this year, it is fun basketball to watch, believe it or not! Edit: And of course I'd like to see the Ladies average over 1,000 a game.
mffl, the WBB team averaged over 1K last season. A lot of that had to do with attendance from the BISD students at one game and the game where the young child and his family were at and donations were made for his illness. I too would like to see over 3K at the WBB games as they are loaded and they are fun to watch. No reason not to attend when the men's team is out of town.
 2.
I'm not trying to trash anyone, but TYPICALLY (not always), this many injuries can be chalked up to poor conditioning.
Yep, but we didn't have a place for strength and conditioning. Now, we do. Plus, being a first year program we have depth problems that hurt us more than most when a starter is injured.
 3.
Agreed. But at Lamar if we don't win and don't get the support we can't survive. (See 1989) we can't be like some of those pro teams like the Pirates or Lions or Grizzlies.
Guys, that is why they would only bring back football if the students voted on it and passed the student fees for football. We don't have to worry about dropping the football program again but if there isn't fan support a move to a FBS conference will be impossible. We'll be stuck in FCS. I'm not slamming the SLC now. Just giving a couple of facts.

As for as JJ, he doesn't need to give anyone an excuse for wanting to transfer. He is a young man and can make his own decisions. That includes transferring schools if he wishes. Here is the Marcus Dupree information. [Hidden Content]
I never said jj was making the excuses, i said you are. you misread my post, i said if I were J. Johnson i would want all of you to shut up until i was ready to make it public, and not make excuses for me. that's all. And you're so far of base with the Aikman injury thing it's funny. MD quit OU then transferred, then quit S. Miss after he found out he would lose a year of elig.
I don't even know the kid and I'm make excuses. No, all I've done is state why he MIGHT want to transfer. As for as Marcus Dupree, I guess you didn't read the link I posted. Honesty I could care less about that situation though. As I'm sure Troy Aikman did have some influence on the decision to change offensives but it didn't mention him in the article about Marcus Dupree. [Hidden Content]

Am I excited about the home OOC schedule? Nope, but I'll make as many as possible and encourage all the true LU basketball fan's to do the same as it is the conference schedule that matters the most and the guys chose to attend Lamar so they deserve our support.
I must admit I am a hair concerned about the schedule and amount of JUCO's we recruited this year.  I will be there in full support though!
Yea, you never know about some of the JUCO's; remember James Davis? What a waste of talent!
He was. I am just speaking of the long term viability of the program.  I am worried the combination of jucos and the schedule is an attempt to post 20 wins at the sacrifice of the long term result.  However, he knows far more than I do so ill trust and still think roc can do it.
Sleepy, no doubt you are right. I don't think Coach Roc is worried about long term results or he wouldn't bring in 6 juco transfers in one season. I do hope the team can develop an identity and team chemistry and the next 2 years will get the program back on track. But, we've been waiting for that the past twenty years. I'm getting old and tired of losing.  ;D

Lamar does indeed have nice facilities for football. The only thing missing is a indoor practice facility. Any donors out there?  ;D
Earlier this year I asked Woodard about an indoor facility when he did that online chat with the Beaumont Enterprise and he said Lamar doesn't need one, but I'm sure if someone ponied up the money they wouldn't turn them down.  Hopefully they'll have to expand the stadium soon due to demand.
demand? are you serious?
Knowing coachacola yes, I believe he is serious. This is our first year so there is excitement about everything being new so Lamar has to start winning next year to keep the fan attendance up. I still believe we can address the issues which are causing us to lose games this off season with recruiting an the players having a facility to actually lift weights, work on getting faster by hitting the fast twitch muscle fibers (Perform sets of short sprints twice a week in addition to your regular workout routine. Maximum effort sprints over distances between 20 and 50 meters give your fast twitch muscle fibers a fantastic workout. Add one or two session of longer sprints to your weekly workout. Going all-out for more than 50 meters is extremely tiring, so run these sprints at around 85 percent effort for the best results. Focus on quickness and fluidity of motion. Do plyometric exercises once or twice a week. Hops, bounds, skips and leaps challenge your fast twitch fibers to produce incredible levels of force. Make time for weight training. Research studies show a direct link between maximum strength and overall speed, so using heavy weights to make yourself stronger will beef up your fast twitch fibers. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of protein to encourage muscle healing and growth. Recovering from sprint workouts and heavy lifting sessions is tough without a solid protein base. Aim to eat .4 grams of protein for each pound that you weigh.) and getting bigger, having another session of spring practice and playing more games together as a team. I truely believe we'll be more competitive in the next couple of years. So, back to the original statement, if we improve to the point of competing for conference championships there will be a demand to expand the stadium. JMO

 10.
I think a year of Prep School will really help Kyser out. Christian Life also has a great reputation for developing raw athletes into good basketball players.
I agree with you mffl. Christian Life as produced several DI basketball players with many being high-major recruits. I hope Kyser does improve and will be able to come in a compete for a starting position next season. I read Bob West Sunday Column and it mentioned Darius Harris the 6'8 post from PA Memorial and Coach Roc's opinion of him. Here is a quote from the article. “I love that kid’s work ethic,” says the fourth-year Cardinal coach. “He’s a Dennis Rodman-type player and our fans are really going to be excited about him. He’s tough, hard nosed, sets screens and goes after every rebound. I don’t normally say a freshman is going to play, but I’ll really be surprised if he doesn’t play a lot.”

 15.
"2nd arrest in as many weeks" we dont need stoners what this team is missing is a smack you in the face redneck LB.
We are a first year program and two of our starting DL are injured with one being a season ending one. Heck, we had to move a couple of reserve OL to DL last week just to have some depth. So, it is the DL responsibility to protect the LB's and let them move from sideline to sideline making tackles. Maybe the reason the vast majority of football teams are lead in tackles by their LB's. Ours aren't big but they are pretty good. Asim Hicks is 6'0, 210lbs and Jonathan Ekpe 5'11, 205lbs are good but will improve in the offseason with the strenth and conditioning program. Then hopefully we'll get Anthony Beard the freshman LB from Lumberton back next season from an ACL injury and maybe add a couple of other LB's. Problems is we only have 12 or 13 scholarships to give out in Feb and LB isn't one of our biggest need areas. We heed a couple more OL and DL add a couple stud skilled position players (if able), heard they might add another kicker. So the few scholarships we have will go fast unless they are able to land a few local stars and give them partials and spread out our scholarships a little.

JJ was a great HS QB and received scholarship offers from several schools. He chose WVU for some reason and it probably wasn't the best decision. They had Geno Smith who is a sophomore stud. He is 6'3, 210 and was a Parade High School All-American after his senior season at Miramar High School in Miami, Fla. This season he has passed for 1358 yards, 14 TD's and 2 int's. He has rushed 38 times for 143 yards. Now, JJ isn't the only college football player to transfer. Heck, Troy Aikman transferred from OU to UCLA. Was he a quiter?  ::)
No, he wasn't a quitter, he broke his ankle in a game vs Miami after he led OU to wins earlier that year vs Kansas St., Minnesota, and #17 Texas. Once he broke his ankle Switzer had no choice but to revert back to the wishbone, where as a "FRESHMAN" a guy stepped in and went on to win them a national championship against Penn St. So the reason he transferred wasn't because he couldn't cut it, it was because Switzer couldn't take the job away from the kid who stepped in and won them a championship. Got anymore questions?? LOL Or excuses??
I know the reason he transferred to UCLA as I'm a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan. Besides Aikman they had Marcus Dupree at TB. So Aikman wasn't the only reason they were running a pro style offense instead of the wishbone. Dupree was recruited by  UCLA, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Colorado, LSU, Southern Mississippi, and Pittsburgh. He chose OU after a visit by Billy Sims. Coach Switzer decided to switch to the I formation to better utilize Dupree's abilities. So, it wasn't Aikman they changed the offense for it was Dupree. There are hundreds of college football players who transfer schools for one reason or another. That was the point I was attempting to make. Are they all quiters?
 17.
this rb dude?  flunked out everwhere he's been...he gonna come to LU and suddenly decide to study? I think the kicker will be fine.
That is very misleading. He never qualified to play at Texas A&M. He went to Navarro and signed with Tulsa last Feb. but TU is a private school so their entrance standards are higher than most schools and he NEVER attended a class at Tulsa. So, get your facts straight before trashing a young man you probably don't know.

 19.
I'll email you later to let you know. He was also told that they were all the same caliber. But he would not see the field unless the other two got hurt. Gee, what would you do? Or you can call me.
Thanks, email me and I'll try to get it asap as I'm bad about staying on top of that (emails). Who is the other kicker. You state "he would not see the field unless the other two got hurt". I hope he wasn't talking about the punter who I've heard can kick. All I can say is it isn't just your family as 1. My brother was set to sign LOI with Texas A&I and at the last minute they signed another DB. 2. Then through a family friend who knew the recruiting coordinator at McNeese State he got an academic scholarship. Then after moving up the depth chart to second string left CB after his red-shirt freshman season they told him they weren't going to offer him a full-ride so since he was already engaged to his HS sweetheart he gave up football and transferred to Lamar along with his wife. Lamar had done dropped their program so football was over for him. I stated all that to let you know that I know how you must feel. Best of luck to your son, Taylor and if he still wants to play and Lamar won't give him a shot don't let that stop his dream of playing college football. Transfer to a school that will and you son will have a fan here. Buzz, just keep the forum here or the HS forum aware of where Taylor is playing and he'll have a supporter here.
 20. Yep, I can't disagree there. Lamar does indeed have nice facilities for football. The only thing missing is a indoor practice facility. Any donors out there?  ;D
 21.
Just to let you all know, Sleepy, I am Taylor's dad. I DO know what Brian Mayper told Taylor. Yes, he did get a try-out. But, he was told some things that would hamper anyone. If you want the whole story, you can be a man and call me at 727-1430!!! Mayper and his staff are not telling you the whole story because he picked their kicker. Coach Woodard saw Taylor and said that he would offer him something. Then, all of the sudden, Mayper said NO. What's up with that??
What was the reason given for him not to be offered a position on the team? It is obvious you need more than one kicker in college. Look around the country and you will see at least 2 kickers on just about every team in America that includes FBS, FCS, DII, DIII and NAIA teams.
 22. Not to join the debate as you guys got it going on but South Alabama has a pretty nice football facility in Mobile to play in and recruit to. [Hidden Content]#
If Taylor Trahan wouldn't have screwed around he may have made it.  Coaches gave him 3 different chances.  There is more to that story than everyone is presenting!
Yea, and if he had made those three kicks then Lamar would have lost 26-9. It's still a loss. The offense was non-existent Saturday.
I guess Coach Haynes was before your time.
 24.
Marijuana is a negligible offense in my books when it comes to drug possession. However, I do thin Baylor was in their right to dismiss him, as would any school that chooses to do so (Just last week, two Wash. State Freshman were caught with over 30 plants in their house). However, with him moving back home, I think it'd be hard for him to get straight. If he were going somewhere else (out of Texas or away from Beaumont) then I think he'd be able to get straight again. I would assume (pure assumption) that he started using in high school, and coming back to with his old friends won't make quitting any easier. Just my opinion though
No, you are right about changing places you hang out and friends. You can't get straight if you don't make those changes. Will it be harder in Beaumont? Probably.
 25.
I disagree with the thought that our RB's aren't any good, heck when they run against our D they get 8yards a carry.....Derrick Hall is not going any where the way we are blocking...period.
No one has said they aren't any good. They are having trouble holding on to the ball as Logan, Asante and Hussey have all fumbled at least once this season. Asante is over-rated in my opinion, Logan in 5'6, 170lbs and Hussey is 5'6, 189lbs. Derrick Hall is 5'10, 210lbs and can run circles around our current RB's. I've seen a listed forty time of 4.3 but a few people don't seem to think he is that fast so I'll say he is a legit 4.4 in the forty. So, what does that mean. Well, he can hit the holes quicker, he is bigger than Logan and Hussey. Then on plays to the edge he has the speed to get to the corner. Now, am I saying I think the blocking has been great? No, you don't have to be a coach to see the OL is having trouble opening lanes for the backs. Logan and Hussey are good RB's but Hall was recruited by the likes of Texas A&M for a reason and the other two weren't. Just a fact.
