Lamar vs. South Alabama Predictions................
bigred360 replied to Lazeek's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Heart with Lamar, brain with South Alabama; 34-21 due to their fast pace and we didn't play well under those conditions versus SFA. -

Was he just not recruited by the major colleges? If you are talking about kids qualifing there are many to talk about. See all the junior college players across the country. Most of them are good enough to play at a 4 yr school but had academic problems. Sad but it is a problem (academics) throughout America not just with athletes. -

They know more about fast twitch muscle fibers and how to make athletes faster, stronger and bigger. -
JJ has 4.4-4.5 speed, not 4.3. I think most folks do not realize how fast 4.3 really is. 4.3 is Olympic sprinter speed, like Chopper(Ivory Williams) from Central. I believe Hall is 4.4 speed at best.
You are correct most folks do not realize how fast 4.3 really is. I bet the QB at Michigan Denard Robinson runs a 4.3. Yes, 4.3 is olympic sprinter speed but instead of running track this athletes are playing football. I remember Cazzy Francis from Orange running a 4.4 and that was back in 1988. Athletes today are bigger, stronger and faster than they were 20 years ago. If Hall (only) runs a 4.4 that is still fast. Just to clear the air there are very few people that run that fast. Chris Johnson who played college football at East Carolina (not a high major university) ran a 4.24 at the NFL Scouting Combine in February 2008. -
All i am saying is he needs to realize that he's a freshman and he prob won't get the opportunity to play as a true freshman and he prob won't play as a sophmore, get in the weight room get faster, bigger, and stronger and win the battle at the qb position but kids these days want everything handed to them and don't want to work for it i mean he's been the best athlete in his school all his career now he's in college and there are athletes just like him and its a little bit tougher for him now not just being the best!!!!Kids gotta learn to work hard , I mean nothing against the kid he's a heck of a athlete, I just don't see why all these kids come home...
Dude you can't generalize this situation. Every situation is different and I have no inside information on this young man. But, he is a true freshman playing behind a stud sophome. So, what the sophomore is going to quit lifting weights, quit running and doing things to get better. No, he is going to work his butt off too because they are at a high major university. If this kid was a junior or senior I'd probably agree with what you stated but that isn't the case here. -
The 4.3 forty thing kills me every time I see it.
Believe it or not there are very few people who can run that fast. When they say 4.3 forty it could be 4.35, 4.36, 4.37, 4.38, or 4.39. People just mention their best times and yes I believe Hall can run in the 4.3 range. The 100 meter time was at a track meet and he ran a 10.33. That is hard to believe that time by a high school athlete too. -

I finally agree as each of us started up our programs in a different fashion but you won't know the results of which is best with this game or in a year or two. It is the long term results that are in the best interest for Lamar and I assume for USA. -

What, besides our terrible men's basketball team knocking the Bob Marlin coached Kats out of the SLC tournament a few years. TT seems to think Coach Marlin wasn't a good tournament coach yet they almost beat Baylor and he is now off to greener pastures at ULL. :D :D At least the Cajuns average more than 2,000 per men's home game. -
If it is a current, recent QB who could still potentially play... former West Hardin star Tyler Copeland? Unless you were taking Brian Bell or Tyrik Rollison, do not think anything else would resonate with the Bearkat faithful. Sounds like typical Lamar over-hype job here.
You are joking right, TT? If he couldn't make it at SHSU I highly doubt all of these posters would be this excited to see a possible transfer from SHSU. Myself, I have no idea who it is. Just glad to have Derrick Hall in the fold and if this QB is as good I'll be ecstatic. -

I had a feeling that was going to happen after watching their sophomore QB. Dude is pretty good! So if he is red-shirting this year. He'll have to red-shirt next season if he transfers to Baylor. He'll lose a year of eligibility. He may want to re-think where he wants to transfer. I'm not saying to come to Lamar but in his position a FCS program looks better than sitting out another season. -

Terror is an idiot for pointing out the box score. No one cares about that. The Cowboys look better in the box score every week yet they are 1-3. Terror is not an idiot, just obnoxiously arrogant and condenscending. He's like a little dog nipping at your heals, always looking for a dig to satisfy his unjustified ego. But he is no idiot. The point about the boxscore is yes we did the things we needed to do to win the game. Great! But we didn't dominate against a lower division team. Before you run with that as being negative, its not, just a fact. I'm ecstatic we won the game.
We are not going to dominate many teams in our first year. Just a fact.
Why do you ask for people to bring up negatives and then censored about when they do? Congrats, you won, you didn't play perfect, no team does week in and week out. You can always improve upon things. Terror pointing out the box score was simply to show that had a few plays gone in favor of Langston, namely in the red zone, they would have won. The point is, first year program or not, an FCS team should handle an NAIA team fairly easy. Don't ask for something and then complain when you get it.
There is no team that plays a perfect game period. It you have seen one, please let me know as the rest of the football world is waiting to know. You can look at the box score of games at every level of football, every weekend and there are many times the losers had better "stats" than the winners. Actually, the stats for the Langston game were pretty even. Shows how much you know about NAIA programs as they are able to take athletes that didn't have their academics in order to go to a FCS or FBS program. It doesn't been they aren't talented football players. So, I am happy with a w against a NAIA team as I would be with any team on our schedule this first season. As for a making the plays in the endzone well we did and they didn't, period! They missed a FG and we blocked the other one. Then their last time in the redzone we held them on downs. ::) So, in winning we made some big plays and they didn't. Just a fact of the game.
SPIN... SPIN... SPIN... I guess young Christopher is not aware of what South Alabama is doing compared to Lamar. It is much easier to schedule when you are a counter (see Lamar) compared to not being one (see South Alabama), especially when teams need at least seven Div I wins to qualify for the playoffs... Their clock truly begins next year - year three. See their schedule then? I'm not saying Lamar's schedule is worse than South Alabama's, because it isn't - but that was just a bogus and ill-informed article that makes for good locker room material.
That is the direction South Alabama wanted to go. They could have been a "counter" if they wanted to go in that direction (See Lamar). They have only played one other FCS team (Nicholls State) and won 39-21 in Mobile. This is their first true road game so I don't see this article being at the top of the list for motivating their players. -

The regional one he is talking about is setxsports.com as UNLV doesn't post there, neither does HoopInsider (Houston) or you AggiesAreWe. Take that back as I have seen a couple of your post AAW. I would not have stated TT likes to debate here if I had not seen the above mentioned post. -

It's gotten so bad that the Lamar fan base has split between two boards. One that allows people with countering opinions (including fans from other SLC institution) and the regional sports one, which is closed minded to anyone that says anything negative about Lamar, Billy Tubbs or Roc. Always an entertaining group nonetheless, especially the regional sports board. The funny too about that board is more than half their fans have names pertaining to universities they favor instead of Lamar - whether it being Houston, Texas A&M or UNLV! -
I'm happy with the win as Langston was better than Webber and their QB 6'5, 240 was as big as a couple of our defensive lineman and he could throw the ball. I only had one thing to be critical about and posted it on another thread so there is no need to repost it here as in my opinion it is time to start talking about South Alabama. I hear they are pretty good. Although you can question their schedule they are averaging over 50 ppg and defensively they are holding teams to 6 ppg. They are taking our their starters at halftime. :o

Doesn't take much to know why TexasTerror post here and not bigredinsider.com. He like to use his knowledge of athletics, namely FCS football and then spin it so he is always talking negatively about Lamar and has to somehow mention Sam Houston. I've got it for a very reliable source this Lamar men's basketball team is going to surprise a lot of people. Coach Tidwell and the lady Cardinals are going to be as good or better than last season and the Nebraska transfer is now eligible, one of recuits average 37 ppg in high school, Myriam Igoufe of La Ville Aux Danes, France is now healthy, then add Plumley, Loyd and the other pieces of the team. They are loaded. Then next Feb. the recruiting season well be very important for the Lamar football team as we will add a few missing pieces to the football team as in Derrick Hall. Add him and one or two lineman and the others get stronger in the off season in the new training facility the team will not be one dimensional on offense. See in the past we had to show recruits photos of what our athletic facility will look like. Now, they will experience it and the crowds that show up at Provost Umphrey stadium first hand. It will only help Coach Woodard and recruiting to have the best facilities in the SLC. -

That will be a great boost to the RB position. He is 5'10, 210 can run a 4.3 forty and 100 meter in 10.33. So he is really built to be a great RB; short, compact, muscular and fast. He will be a great addition to the Cardinals football team. Now, just about 4-5 more key recuits and it will go a long way to making Lamar a lot better football team. -
