**LU vs Langston Updates** LU WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bigred360 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If Bevil leads Chavis and doesn't make two low throws Billy is probably gaining another 10-20 yards on both pass plays. I mean it is difficult for a 6'5, 260 guy to catch those low passes without going to the ground. I think Chavis can be a real game changer if used correctly. The guy has a ton of athletic ability. -
All you guys are a joke.....We need to get behind these kids 110% no matter what happens. I agree some of the play calling is very questionable...But we need to celebrate the win and prepare for a real tough game against South Alabama.... GO CARDS
Dude you are a JOKE. This is a forum for LAMAR FAN'S to discuss anything regarding Lamar or LU athletics. Go take a view of some of the other fan sites around the country. Quit getting so defensive. Geez! ::) I think everyone who has posted up to now is a die hard Cardinals fan or they wouldn't waste their time making a post about their thoughts of the game. -
Looking at the box score, would think Langston won this one... More trips to the red zone, had the ball for nine minutes more, less penalties... If Langston scores in the red zone or "red area" as Whitten calls it, the Cardinals lose to Langston. Call this a good game all you want, but you guys can't do that against South Alabama and some of the other schools on the schedule. They'll find a way into the end zone and at the Div I level - probably make their FGs.
What box score are you looking at? Langston has 120 yard rushing we had 152. They had 234 passing with 43 coming on one pass. We had 204 through the air. They did lead time of possession but we lead on the scoreboard. BTW, we played without our probable best player on offense in JJ Hayes. Our defense was laying the wood again tonight. Someone killed their 6-5, 240 QB knocking his helmet off. -

I'm not talking about kicking a FG. I'm talking about the play calling. Six plays inside the 9 yard line and 2 incomplete passes to Powdril and Jackson in which a pass interference was call giving us a first and goal at the 2 yard line. Then they ran Asante 3 straight times and a QB sneak with Bevil on 4th down. If they just had to run the ball why not use Logan since he had 96 yards rushing for the game. Play action would have worked well with their LB's cheating for the run. JMO. -

Yea, I questioned the play calling there. But, hey we won and they are suppost to be better than Webber and we had trouble beating them. I'll take the W. -

Lazeek, try posting them on www.bigredinsider.com. May be a little late though. I wish I would have known you were selling yours a few days ago as I was looking for 3-4 extra tickets. Good luck to your Gators versus LSU. 8)
Sorry to say this , but as soon as the new wears off the Lamar buzz, the people in Beaumont will stop going to watch lossing games. Just look at the history of different sports to try in Beaumont. They have had good baseball, basketball, hocky teams to try to play there, and as soon as the new wears off, there wont be 500 people at the games. Its proven people in Beaumont dont support anything execpt highscholl football.
Sorry Beaumont is not a hockey town and there are very few hockey fan's in the area. The indoor football team had how many different owners and head coaches? It was a little surprising the Golden Gators didn't make it here as they were very competitive and fun to watch. However, in the summer there are so many different options for family activities. The beach, the lakes, there are water sports, summer vacations for many and several different options with sports on TV. All those aren't the case with a fall sport like football. The indoor football team played their games in the spring. Will it be important for Lamar to have a competitive football team in a few years? Yes, of course they will need to be a winning program. However, there is a student fee to support the football program financially so the program will not be in danger of being killed again. -
aries456, you are correct Langston is going to be a tough team to beat. I'm looking forward to a great game.

Andre Bevil does make some questionable throws and does turn the ball over too much. His leadership skills may need to improve (although the team choose him as a captain). But he is by far the best QB on our roster and he is breaking records. Sorry but no one else is close to being as talented or as experienced on the Lamar team than Andre Bevil. Plus the coaching staff has stated he is injured with a high ankle sprain. Lamar’s 300-Yard Club Name Opponent Yds. Andre Bevil McNeese St., 2010 429 Andre Bevil SE Louisiana, 2010 417 Shad Smith La.-Monroe, 1987 412 John Evans UT-El Paso, 1989 407 Larry Haynes UTA, 1979 403 John Evans Angelo St., 1989 393 Fred Hessen UTA, 1981 367 John Evans McNeese St., 1989 353 John Evans McNeese St., 1987 341 Ray Campbell Houston, 1983 326 Andre Bevil Sam Houston, 2010 310 Tommy Tomlin La. Tech, 1969 308 Shad Smith Texas State, 1988 304 He has only played 4 and 1/2 games and still putting up these numbers when hurt. Are you sure you aren't related or have some type of relationship with someone else at the QB position at Lamar because it is obvious Andre Bevil is the best QB on the roster currently. Does he need to get better. Yes, a lot better! -

I have yet to see a post stating we are too good for the current alignment of the SLC. We are a first year program and so you are right about Lamar currently. But, when I make a statement about Lamar moving I personally am talking about 5 or more years from now. You nor I know how good our program will be there. I am starting to think it is funny your own school is doing a feasibility study to see if your program should move up to a FBS conference and yet you are concerned about Lamar. Does that mean your school is too good to turn up their noses up at the West TX A&M's, Delta State's, and A&M Kingsville's of the world? Lamar has to improve across the board with our athletic program before serious talks with a FBS can take place but it would be prudent for the administration here at Lamar to monitor the situation of FCS versus FBS.
I'm not concerned with Lamar its just the only thing you guys talk about. As for Sam I responded to the survey and I made it a point to do so in such a way that its clear I'm against it. Now you are correct that no one has come out and stated "we are too good" but people have said SLC is a junk conference and Lamar should have never left the sunbelt and needs to get out asap.....maybe as a fan of a school in said junk conference I'm taking that the wrong way or it may be my reading comprehension...
No, you are right there are people who think Lamar should have never left the Sun Belt and you can count me as one of them. It has nothing to do with the members of the SLC. In my opinion it was a step back as for as our athletic programs. Now, there is no way to get out ASAP. It takes a lot of money and Lamar currently does not have it. But I also thought it was a mistake to kill the football program is 1989. Anyway, best of luck the rest of the season for SHSU. Start SLC play off right and kick Nicholls State's butt. -
Some of us are just thrilled to have football back and love the rivalry we have with Sam, and SFA, and McNeese and don't agree with the argument that we'd be better off playing Idaho and Utah State. That's all. Others on here think we are too good for the lowly SLC even though SFA beat us McNeese beat us 30-27, SFA beat us 71-3, and SHSU beat us 38-3. Our performance of late actually indicates we should move down, not up. Sorry, don't agree with the move down since we are a first year started up program. Hopefully you were just being sarcastic. I have waited 21 years for the return of football to Lamar and have no problem playing SHSU, SFA or McNeese. Who stated we'd be better off playing Idaho and Utah State? Now, would I like to be in the Big 12 or the SEC? Absolutely! But we need a reality check. Let's worry about selling out our stadium and having a little success before we think we are too good for the Southland. Could not agree more but there are things that are happening in college athletics that are out of the hands of Lamar administration. Football is great for the community and the campus. Quite honestly, after a 21 year absence, I could care less if we play UT or the Sisters of Charity...I'm going to the games and having a good time. And you won't see mee with a screen name like: AggiesAreWe or UNLV nor will you see me with Texas Tech logos. Come to think of it, I'm going to have to come up with a better screen name now. I too could care less who we play this first year and I am as excited to watch the Langston game as I was the McNeese game. I'll be there tomorrow having a great time win or lose. As for as screen names like AggiesAreWe; his wife is a Lamar alumnus and he has kids attending Lamar. UNLV attended Lamar for a year before transferring and Ruckdad is a Lamar alumnus who got his law degree from Texas Tech.
What isn't accurate?
First off I wasn't addressing your post. But, since you replied for there to an accurate picture of all DI football programs you need to list the FCS schools as well as the FBS schools. Well, only 30% of FBS schools are invited to a bowl games at the end of the season. So, it is funny to read the names of the bowls some of the guys make fun of. That leaves 70% of the schools sitting at home for Christmas and New Years. Only two of 125 FCS football-playing schools made a profit last season. As Fox news reports, that is fair and balanced. ;D -
It looks like Langston runs a 4-3 defense and on offense they run a one back system with the QB Chad Miller being the star that runs the show. He is very elusive and makes plays with his feet. The university is located in Langston, Okla. There are 2,750 students. They play in a NAIA conference and their nickname is the Lions. They won their league championship in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and they finished second in the conference last season.

I had to laugh at that one AggiesAreWe. :D :D
I actually read that site and many more. The Southland is heading for a big decision. 1. Drop football, add UALR and ORU to become a strong basketball conference. or 2. Invite DII's to stay a FCS weak football conference. All depends heavily on what happens with Louisiana schools.
Sorry, UNLV the SLC will NEVER drop football. BTW, I just mentioned you in a post so keep us informed! 8)
You are probably correct because I know UNLV will post something as will a few others. Heck, I may find something to post. Sorry, you find it almost nauseating but with all the talk of conference realignment including the SLC I'm sure the folks over at katfans.com will be monitoring the situation too. Maybe once basketball season arrives we'll have more to talk about. A lot of unknowns with the men's team and our ladies are probably the preseason favorites to win the SLC under the direction of Coach Tidwell. ;D

Coachacola thanks for pointing out that fact but there are some on here that nothing you post or say will change their minds. I understand you have to crawl, walk then run but some don't seem to think Lamar will ever be ready for a FBS conference and I just can't understand that train of thought. In a way, I'm starting to see UNLV's point of view.

Come on guys, be honest if Lamar played before a crowd of 8,000 at Provost Umphrey with capacity being 16,000 against anyone there would be all kinds of negative talk on this forum. Especially with the program being new and everyone excited about the football program. South Alabama is in Mobile with a population of about 200,000. So to play before the crowds listed in a 40,000 seat stadium is a little surprising IMHO.
