Would you want to go to a game where their schedule looks like a field of junior colleges. I would expect to see a good increase in the next few years.
Thanks you just proved my point in that it matters not only winning but who we are playing. To answer your question; no I wouldn't spend a dime to see any of those teams play.

I have already stated my opinion of what Lamar should do if they take in DII schools to replace schools that leave the conference. Delta State, Tarleton St., North Alabama, Abilene Christian University, West Texas A&M, Texas A&M - Kingsville, Midwestern St. and Jacksonville St. This schools just don't get me excited to watch them play at Provost Umphrey. I have no interest in traveling to watch the Cardinals play any of these teams either. This goes for not only football but all the sports in which Lamar participates.

Green Menace, thanks for posting the article. You do mean FCS programs, right? -

IMO, South Alabama has a lot easier schedule that Lamar. 2010 Schedule Pikeville at Home Nicholls State Home Edward Waters Home Kentucky Wesleyan Home Missouri S&T Home Lamar Away UC Davis Away Georgia State Home Henderson State Home Arkansas-Monticello Home They only have two road games all season. 2009 Schedule Hargrave Military Academy Army Prep Georgia Military J.C. Louisburg J.C. Fork Union Military Academy Milford Academy Huntingdon College With these cupcakes they were 7-0 with all the games at home.

JJ, actually the students are coming to the games in good numbers. Maybe a few season ticket holders couldn't make the game.Talking to a few people they liked sitting on the grassy areas even though they had a ticket for a specific seat.
-
Agree with you guys about having the games on TV when the Cards are at home. The games subject to blackout if not sold out or having the games on a tape delayed basis.

I know I'm bias as a LC-M alumnus but this is the best team we've had in YEARS. I think they will win tomorrow but I think they'll make the playoffs too.

Dang, I was just talking about that yesterday. Wonder where I got the idea? :D :D I just don't see me or any other Lamar fan talking about the defense having problems tackling or the offense having problems running the football as DOGGING THE TEAM or COACHING STAFF. BTW, Coach Whitten is the OC but if Coach Woodard tells him to run the ball more I promise you the Cardinals will run the ball more. There is no doubt who is the head dog here at Lamar. I can't tell you if there will be fair weathered fan's at Lamar or not but history does show if one of our athletic teams isn't winning then the fan's aren't coming. That said, I was talking with my niece who is majoring in political science as she wants to be an attorney, her boyfriend is a engineering major and my nephew is a kinesiology major. The reason I brought them up is because they are all juniors and have been on campus for a while. They are involved in different clubs and groups and they tell me they haven't seen the students this excited ever. Bringing back football has brought life to the campus and I don't see that dieing for a while even if we aren't winning a lot right now. -

Sorry to hear that Todd Dodge probably won't last but that stadium UNT is building is first class. I doubt you will have a shortage of coaches applying for the job once it is officially open. Heck, you guys may already have someone in mind. Best of luck UNT and to Coach Dodge. -
Called the ticket office to see if I could get a couple more tickets and the ticket manager said they were sold out. Great to see the fan's are still supporting the team. For those without a ticket, Fox 4 has the game with pre-game starting at 5:30PM. Go Big Red!

Yea, that South Dakota game has me a little worried.

I do think that it is best for Lamar to stay in the SLC for about the next 5 years to see if we are competitive and good enough to challenge for the conference title. However, Lamar is growing as I saw a graph with at least $120 million in renovation and new contruction on the Lamar University campus. If coachacola reads this I wish he'd post the graph I'm talking about. Anyway, it shows what is planed from now until the year 2014. I've heard people talk about how nice the campus is compared to when they attended the university. Well, by 2014 with $120 spent on renovation and new construction the campus will be even nicer. Conferences don't just look at the athletic part of a university but also the academic side too. No one can say what the SLC is going to look like in 5-10 years and if enrollment tops 20,000 students at Lamar as has been suggested, LU will be big enough to be in a FBS conference.
If, if, if................we can be as big of a school as we want but if we cannot dominate a conference like the southland we have NO BUSINESS going FBS. I don't care how many students we have. Bottom line is if we move to a larger conference and don't have a very solid program to that conferences standards(I mean competing consistently for conference championships) Beaumont will not support the team and it will be gone once again.
I highlighted the area of my post that stated we need to stay in the SLC for about five years to see if we are competitive and good enough to challenge for the conference titles. People keep forgetting about the football fee $8.75 for fall and spring semesters and $4.50 for summer sessions. If we have 20,000 students and they average 12hrs for spring and fall semesters that is that is $7 million and the summer sessions lets drop down to 15,000 with each student taking 6 credit hours. That is over $800,000 for the summer sessions. Together that is about $7.8 million annually. So the football program will never be dropped again even if we don't have the student growth expected. Our current headcount for this fall is 14,388 students taking 140,904 credit hours. So this fall the football fees has produced $1,127,157. Get the picture. So "if" there is student growth to the point LU administrators are saying there will be in the next 5-10 years. Then "if" the football team is competitive and challenge for the conference titles. I think there would be a very good possibility of a joining another conference. Also, regarding the chart coachacola post (BTW thank you) I was off by a few million dollars. It's not around $120,000,000 it is more like $163,870,000 from now to 2014. -
Well, Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson a former star OLB for the Dallas Cowboys (before drugs ened his career) played at Langston.

I attempted to look him up on the Tulsa football roster and he isn't listed. Are the Golden Hurricane red-shirting him or is he not there any longer. Anyone got information on him?

I wish they would put Jacody Coleman back at LB where he can read and react and make plays from one side of the field to the other. He started for Iowa at LB so I know he is good enough to start at that position here. Of course, this is just my opinion as I'm not on the coaching staff. -

Is there a reason Nathan Reeves is the offensive line coach when he has no experience coaching this position? There's a lot of HS coaches on the staff, and very few with D1 college coaching experience. Seems like Todd Dodge at UNT took a lot of heat for bringing in too many HS coaches. SHSU may be a little younger plus they have a new coaching staff, but I bet they have more overall depth and experience just because they are not starting from scratch like Lamar is. Next year we'll get a better read on this team after Woodard gets a year D1 coaching behind him and he brings in another round of recruits. [/quot Tell me your not serious. What coaches would leave other programs to come to Lamar as a first year program???? Come on!!!!
So you are saying that no assistant coach from another FCS school would even bother to coach at Lamar? What if they were offered a pay raise? If Lamar can only afford to hire HS coaches then maybe we're in for a lot of disappointments.
Alot of high school coaches make more than some college assistants.
Believe it or not that is true. Some college assistants don't make what some HS coaches do. I was suprised when I first learned of this fact. Plus, HS coaches don't have to go on recruiting trips and spend even less time away from their families. -

I believe Todd Dodge needed to win 7 games this season to save his job. BTW, I'm a big Todd Dodge fan and monitored his teams at South Lake Carroll. What he did there was amazing! I wish him and UNT the best this season. -

Brother played college football and was recuited by McNeese, SFA, Texas A&I (now Texas A&M -Kingsville) and a few others even one from a school in Iowa and coached for 8 seasons. This is a first for me as it is for every Lamar fan and I understand we are yound and we have dept problems and probably missed on a couple kids that could have helped by being a first year start up program. You stated we are a few points from being 3-2. Well I hate to tell you we are 14 points from being 0-5. Remember the late score versus Webber or we are going to overtime and the best team doesn't always win in OT. Then versus SE Louisiana if we don't score with about 2 minutes left in that game we lose there. Here is my bottom line. I've waited 21 years for football to return to Lamar University. I think Coach Woodard is the right man for the job. I think our facilties will be the best in the SLC and I think it will help him with recruiting. Obviously, you have spend some quality time with Ray Woodard but if he can be unhappy with a loss can't I also be unhappy as well as any other Lamar supporter? I just don't see me or any other Lamar fan talking about the defense having problems tackling or the offense having problems running the football as DOGGING THE TEAM or COACHING STAFF. So I too bleed red and white. Also, my brother transferred to Lamar after his sophomore year and his wife transfered from Texas A&M to Lamar and they are both Lamar alumnus and got married while still in school.
I have a sister who teaches autistic children but that doesn't qualify me to pass judgment on other teachers in her field. Your second line where you put we are 14 points 0-5 explains your view perfectly. Looking at it from a negative perspective as soon as we lose instead of taking positives on what has happened this season. I will agree to disagree.
How can we have a friendly debate about the football program if I don't take the other side of the coin. You stated we are a few points from being 3-2. So for there to be a debate I had to look at the negative side if not there would be no debating. I too like to think we are a few points from being 3-2 but how would there be any conversation if we agreed on every point? As for as knowing football, the landscape of college recruiting and college athletics I am confident of my knowledge so I don't need your affirmation. I think if you will take a second you'll see from other post I've made we are more in agreement than not. -

My younger brother and I both Graduated from Sam Houston and He played football for the Bearkats so my parents have been in and around football facilities and the fiirst thing they said when I got back was "WOW"...you guys have the best facilities around, the best gameday atmosphere and a team that at one time many people thought would have maybe one win coming into this past weekend but instead you had a team that scared Mcneese, beat SELA, and had every Bearkat fan I know wondering if we could beat you or not coming into this game. Im a season ticket holder to Sam Houston football games and my Mom hasnt asked to come to a game in years and after this past weekend she wants to come. Point being it took time to build the facilities, hype up the atmosphere and its gonna take time to bring the team around. Im ecstatic at the outcome of the game last saturday, but I wish you guys the best of luck for success the rest of the way and I plan to be at a few mor LU games this season when my Kats are away. Kye Hildreth has been moved to WR. There are 4 QB's on the active roster. Bevil, Berry, Smith and Prewitt with Smith having I believe a season ending injury.
