1. Great news for setxsports.com.
2.
Can someone update on our injured players? Will Bevil return for SAM game or will we have another QB step up?
I don't have any "official" news about Bevil but have heard he has a high ankle sprain which usually takes a few weeks to heal. I hope for our sake he heals fast.  8)
3.
Wow a fan for 2 years!!! Yippie ... Go fly a Kite ECbuc...  What made you become a fan??
I think he stated he had kids that attend SFA.
4. I'll go LC-M by 21 over Ozen.
5.
Big Red, it wasn't you....was referring to someone else. Shouldn't matter with recruiting at all. heck look at Rice, they still get players...LOL
Good to know because I know you are very knowledgable about sports since you are a sports editor.  8) Didn't want you to think I said that about film study because coaches work their butts off.
6.
Wait now...I said teams had film on Lamar and was laughed off the board. Playing well against McNeese and beating SELA spoiled some fans.
I don't remember you being "laughed off the board". I remember stating before the McNeese game that they had film of Coach Whitten's offense and that they run the same 4-2-5 defense as Lamar. If it wasn't important to study game film coaches wouldn't have to work 6-7 days a week , 12 or more hrs per day. By breaking down the game film into offensive, defensive and special teams. They study tendencies of the other team. What to expect on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down and the distance for the downs and the plays ran for each down and distance. When to expect a run or pass blitz, where the other team is inexperienced or weak. I could go on and on but I never laughed about the importance of coaches having game film to study. Just wanted to clear the air as to what I said before the McNeese game.
7. Prayers for his family, friends, the football team and coaching staff and community of Newton. May Coach Barbay RIP.
8. I for one need a day or two to digest the nightmare last night.  :-[
9.
I don’t care how many yards Bevil has thrown for, his poor decision making will cost Lamar more and more throughout the year.  And UNLV is right, he did throw in the towel.  I’ll take someone with possibly less talent that will at least try.
I agree with most of the post on here. SFA played like a Top 10 team and Lamar played horrible. 4 TO's in the first quarter which lead to our defense on the field the whole game and they were running plays as soon as the official put the ball down. Our defense was gassed after the first quarter. Bevil has to make better decisions and hold onto the ball but he'll continue to be the starter as the backup; Prewitt is a freshman walk-on from Kelly where he played (WR). Last night was the first time he has played QB in a live game situation. Sorry, I don't see how an injury is "throwing in the towel". He (Bevil) wanted to play but it was a "coaching decision" to keep him out and be ready to go versus SHSU. I don't have anything positive to say about the team or the coaching staff. SFA took out their star QB out in the 3rd quarter or it could have been worse. I live and breath red and white but I am embarrassed about this game and agree a few players seemed to quit during the game. That is the only reason to watch film of this game. As they say "film doesn't lie" and the coaches can see this(players quiting) for themselves. Edit: I stand corrected as Prewitt did play QB at Kelly.
10. Come on LC-M, let's get em!
11. After watching the highlights of the McNeese game both Dr. Simmons and Billy Tubbs talked to the interviewer. So, BT is still around Lamar athletics.
12.

I find it entertaining to go to the different message boards and see what other fans think of all of this.  On the Sun Belt board they are calling the new WAC the Southland-lite and are laughing.  They look down on any team from the Southland.  UTSA and Texas State think they are better the Lamar even though they haven't accomplished anything in athletics and nobody attends their games.  The other SLC schools think that any school that wants to leave is being a snob. The bottom line is that the SLC gets no respect and is near the bottom as far as conferences go.  There's no money or glory at the FCS level, so even though the WAC seems like a terrible idea, in the long run it may in Lamar's best interest to pursue it.  But if Lamar can't afford to join the WAC then they'll stay in the SLC for a while.
Gets no respect from who?  The Sun Belt?  Who gives a rats butt about the Sun Belt?!!  Isn't SFA ranked 6th in the country in football?  And McNeese is in the top 15 or something and then how many other SLC schools are at least getting votes. We tried chasing greener pastures in the past and it killed us.  Screw Denver, and Seattly and all that nonsense.
Where did you get that information? Ask someone like smith, that isn't what killed the program.  I see both sides of this coin. I think the SLC is best now but with all the conferences talking realignment you can't ignore the possibilities. Heck, there is even talk about changes in the SLC and budget cuts hurting Louisiana schools.
13.
I knew earlier yesterday but been swamped, plus hoop season is around the corner  :D
Well, I look forward to your preseason HS basketball preview magazine.  ;)
14. We are a young team as for as playing together and SFA is ranked 6th in the country so I'll say the Jacks win. However, if Lamar can win the turnover battle. Contain their offense, bend but don't break. Their offense is too good to shut down completely and we have only 3 games together as a defensive group. So, holding them to FG's instead of TD's is crucial. Then we have to take what the defense gives on offense. We have to be patient moving the ball and come away with points anytime we are in the redzone. If Lamar is able to do ALL of the above I think we'll have a chance to win. 35-31 SFA.
15. The way we've been kicking off he'll only have to return in about 80 yards.  ;D Our kicker is just a freshman so while joking about his kickoffs I'll give him some slack. I'm sure he'll get better as the season progresses. That stated special teams is a area of concern. Other teams have gotten good field position after most of our kickoffs.
16. Silsbee is doing some great things in memory of Reggie Garrett. I'm sure it is appreciated by everyone in Orange.
17. DP#1FAN, you are the man! I'm sure you are all over this getting done.  Great gesture by the Pirates and their community who went through a difficult situation last year.

19. Good job Hoop for getting this information out. I had ask Coach Woodard about the possibility of doing this and he said he would do anything he could! Glad it all worked out. I still tear up when thinking about Reggie Garrett and will continue to pray for his family, his friends, the Mustang football team, the coaching staff, the school district and the city of Orange. It will be a long healing process but gestures like this by Lamar helps.

21. Man, that is awesome. Maybe one of the administrators can post this link on top of the Lamar fan forum. That is some sweet stuff. Good job with this by the Lamar athletic department!
22. Thanks for clearing that up AggiesAreWe.
