I'm here to eat crow. Great win for you guys tonight. Can't believe we couldn't hold on, but you guys proved you wanted it more, and in the end, deserved it more. Good luck the rest of the season until I visit you guys as a Sam fan.
Thanks for the compliment and best of luck to the Lions the rest of the season. We have been waiting a long time to play SHSU so I hope you have a good time at the game but leave with a loss. ;D -
Only 57 players on scholarship out of a possible 63 so Coach Woodard will add a few new recruits this recruiting class plus some players will aways leave a program so there will be some new recruits for next year. I stated on anygivensaturday that JJ Hayes and Andre Bevil were going to be a good combo this year and a few guys on there were laughing at me. Now, who is laughing after Bevil throws for over 400 yards in two of the first three games this season and JJ Hayes caught three TD passes just last night.

LU vs. SE game thread....CARDS WIN !!!!

Great win for the Cardinals; the players the coaching staff, the students/alumni/fan's. What a way to come back after SE scored 28 straight points. Good coaching in the second half by the Cardinals staff. I read Coach Woodard only has 57 players on scholarship so there will be some room to add players this coming recruiting period. I hope our kicker gets better or maybe Coach Woodard will have to add a kicker to the list of players he'll sign in the future. Again great win by the Cardinals! -
What about the dorms? Do they get on campus living conditions?

So you are telling me LIT students are paying $8.75 per semester hour for the athletic fee for football at Lamar University??? I'll call both Lamar and LIT on Monday and find out first hand.
-
Great, I work at Christus St. Elizabeth and see what those doctors do and very few (patients) have any problems. Of course most patients I see don't play college sports. ;)
-
Yep, those guys do a lot of work at Christus St. Elizabeth. I think there is possible Beard can get a medical red-shirt since he didn't play in 20% of the Lamar games this season. Would be great to have him for four more years.

Mid-Majority Legacy Programs - Lamar

Dude, no one really cares about this topic as you can see by the replies. The last post before yours was Sept. 1st. ::) -
WO-S Quarterback Reggie Garrett dies during football game at Dan Hooks stadium last night. This is a tragedy; may he RIP. I was listening to the game on KOGT after work. My prayers are with his family, friends, the WOS football team and coaching staff and the community of Orange. It sounded like he had a seizure on the sidelines? I still can't believe this happened! May all that read this post pray for all involved. Very sad!
Be too North, but I know it isn't official and LIT is no longer part of Lamar I still look at their numbers and include them with LU because they (students) use the Rec Center, Dinning Hall and they get tickets for Lamar football games.
I thought I read somewhere that LIT students pay the athletic fee too, is this true?
No, I read somewhere that LIT students do not pay the athletic fee. Their students would have had to vote on that (student fee) and up to this point they haven't.

Yes, every home and away game will be on KLVI with Harold Mann and Bo Brown. If you can't get KLVI where you live they have the games online.
I'm not hijacking this board anymore, so I'm only going to comment on the Lamar and SLU game moving forward. I'm also a Sam alum, so I'll be back to talk about that game and already have my tickets. My last comment on this thread is this: 50% of the teams that you would join in the WAC will be teams who have moved up from FCS to FBS to save the WAC. These are the same teams people on this board are saying fans will not pay money to see. For every Boise there are 10 ULLs, ULMs, North Texas', Arkansas State, Florida Atlantics, Troys, etc.
Agree for every Boise State there are several others who don't have that type of success but we are talking about the #3 team in the country. So there are several big-time schools who aren't having the success they are. Personally, I'd love to see ULL, ULM, North Texas, Florida Atlantic and Troy at Provost Umphrey. Hope you have a good experience for the SHSU game. I just hope you don't leave with a W. ;D

If you played football at LC-M then you probably know my brother. He was an assistant under Coach David Williams. It was either 95 or 96 when he started there. Sorry to post this on the board but the site doesn't allow PM's for some reason or at least I can't.
He can't because that has never been stated by a member of this board or the other Lamar fan forum. I'm starting to think he has a reading and comprehension problem. Maybe its why he went to SHSU. ;D Don't take that statement personal because if you can talk about how dirty Beaumont and Lamar is I figured you can take as much as you dish out. ;)
Actually BR360 go back to katfans.com and read that post and see if I stated Lamar itself was dirty...you may be having reading comprehension problems too, but since we both went to LCM that may be the common link. :)...I live and work in this area and I wear SH shirts all the time so some of the things I post about things LU fans say arent neccessarily stated on this board or BRI....and keep em comin it makes reading and replying that much more fun...
What years did you attend LC-M? I was there in the mid 80's. I work at Christus St. Elizabeth so I guess being in that part of town I see the nicer homes and around Parkdale Mall that area is really nice now.

Community support will once again dry up if LU continue to bring in "who are you" schools. That is a fact backed up by Lamars own history.
I am tired of seeing this generalized misstatement. Lets look at some real facts for demise of football at Lamar. From 1975 to the final game in 1989 Lamar was 38 - 90 - 3 that is an awful record. Plus in '86 and '87 they had their two wordt defensive teams in school history. Giving up 339 and 389 points in those seasons. And in this area if you don't win the people don't show. Just ask the Beaumont Golden Gator, Bullfrogs, Wildcatters, and Drillers. The real death blow for Lamar football was the school moving to a "Basketball" conference where football was not played. Then Lamar had to play as an independent and could only get FOUR home games the last two seasons. So the demise of Lamar was from over a decade of BAD football and the university thinking BIG. They had the BIG DREAM of Lamar being a basketball powerhouse and gave no thought of what it would do to football. So please quit saying that FCS is what killed Lamar football.
Gesh, people are going to think I'm all for going FBS now. You pointed out our records from 1975-1989 but you didn't mention the Head Coaches who were here. Plus, Lamar didn't recruit well during that period of time. Yes, there were some good players but not enough to have a successful team on the field. I believe we are playing as an independent now. Plus, you fail to mention half the SLC left at the same time. UNT, ULL, ULM, La Tech and Arkansas State. So it was bad football, losing money, poor attendance and bad decision making that killed the program in 1989. Lamar lost 2,000 students the very next semester which lead to less money academically. With the student fee of $8.75 per semester credit hour for long semesters and $4.50 per semester hour for summer sessions we will not be dropping the program again for losing money. Plus, the administration knows how important having football is because you get everything that comes with football. Without the sport you can say goodbye to the marching band, cheerleaders and students who want to have football on campus. Playing FCS may not have killed Lamar football but not staying with the schools we left the conference with did not help.
I'm talking about Texas State. You guys are going to sell out your first few games this year and maybe even the entire season, depending on your record midseason. It's my personal opinion that your sellouts won't continue but as others have pointed out, I don't have any proof of that.
Actually, from someone in the know we are on track to sell out our next 3 home games. If you want a ticket for SHSU, Langston or South Alabama you might want to call the ticket office at (409)880-1715.

Don't know much about LC-M but as a alumnus I hope they can pull this one out. Lumberton has a great coaching staff, good players who know how to play the game. The Bears by 7. 8)
You've talked about this topic to the point that even a visitor to your board is getting nauseous. No one's even talking about this coming Saturday's reality check at Southeastern Louisiana, one of those little po-dunk Louisiana schools that you don't want to be in the same conference with. When you announce concrete plans to increase stadium capacity to 30k, then we'll start talking because there is no way you will continue to average 15k+ per home game. Texas State will never get out of the shadows of UT. Lamar and Sam simply don't have the fan support or population level needed. UTSA.....maybe, if San Antonio shows they care, which to this point, they haven't. If the WAC continues with its rumored expansion plan, the Sun Belch may no longer be the doormat of FBS. Seriously? Games with Montana, Montana State, Louisiana Tech, Texas State, UTSA, San Jose State.....this is going to be a better fit for you than the Southland. I would encourage all of you to look at McNeese. They average more "real" fans than ULM and ULL. They beat ULM and ULL when they play them. They participate in a football playoff instead of hoping to be rewarded with a game in the New Orleans Bowl. It CAN work in FCS and does work in FCS. The grass isn't always greener on the other side my friends. As for reality......Hope to see some of you in Hammond this weekend where we'll show you what the SLC is like when there's tape on you. You, just like Texas State, don't even dominate in the SLC and you think you are worthy of moving up to the next level. Get a grip. Win some games, win some championships, actually SELL OUT your stadium on a consistant basis, and then talk like you deserve it.
pwdonaldson, quite a post there being new to the site and all. Where do I start? All the FBS talk is a little much for a startup program like Lamar. No one is talking about the game with SE Louisiana? Well we have this site and bigredinsider.com which is another Lamar fan site. I've seen a few comments about the game. Myself, I think we better improve in all phases of the team; offense, defense, special teams and even coaching. No one get mad about that comment as a staff they have only coached together 2 games so I hope there can be improvement. You state SE has tape on us, well we have tape on the Lions and the starting QB and his backup. I hear there are a few new twist on offense SE will be seeing for the first time. How much does your stadium hold? No one here has stated we don't want to be is the same conference as you. Heck, now all our sports well play in the Eastern Division of the SLC. Some like TexasTerror says it is the weaker of the two divisions. Guess we'll see. You mention attendance at Lamar, well I got it from a good source we are almost sold out for the SHSU game and that game is in 3 wks. You have no factual information to state we won't continue to average 15k. McNeese averages about 12k in attendance and I think we'll only be second to them and if we didn't have to reduce capacity from 17,500 to 16,000 to comply with Federal Disability Rights Laws we might average more. There is about 400,000 in and around SE Texas. Beaumont itself has over 100,000 so there is enough to support a move to FBS if that is what the administration sees best for the Lamar athletic program. Like I've stated earlier we are 5-6 years from making that type of decision in my opinion. However, I promise you if we do have "concrete" plans of going FBS it will be before renovation of the stadium to hold 30,000 occurs because money doesn't fall off trees so there will need to be a joint (administration/athletic/community) effort to raise the money for that endeavor. No one knows what the future hold in regard to conference realignment. Heck, one week UT was going to the Pac 10 and the next they are staying in the Big 12. So, if someone states what conference Lamar "could" end up in they are not being truthful. Back to McNeese, they are about 60 miles from the Lamar campus so we know about McNeese. My brother played for McNeese in the early 90's under Coach Bobby Keasler. They average about 12k per home game. Yes, they beat ULL about 3 years ago. This is our first year playing football since 1989 so how can we win championships when we haven't played? If you are talking about other sports. Let me think, volleyball won conference a couple years ago, baseball won the SLC tournament and went to regionals, women's basketball won both the conference regular season and the SLC tournament and will be even stronger this year. A lot of letterman return for Coach Tidwell. Golf, Lamar is always pretty good and have the most conference titles of any school in the SLC. Cross Country we are one of the best in the southwest region. Men's basketball was co-champions three years ago although it seems like forever. Women's tennis is pretty good as we have the SLC POY. Women's soccer is improving yearly and I'm interested in how they are going to do this season in SLC play. Finally, our "reality check" at SE Louisiana. You got tape on us and we have tape on you. We have to play better in all phases of the game to win Saturday. Sorry if it hurt your feelings that we haven't talked about the game with SE Louisiana as much as you would like. IMO, the talk about FBS needs to wait a few years but that is for Lamar alumni/students/fan's/administration to decide not a poster from another SLC school.
I would much rather Lamar develop into a FCS power with a legitimate shot at the playoffs year in and year out than go to some middle-of-the-road FBS conference and every few years have to get excited for an invitation in the Carl's Jr.-Budget Airlines-Shreveport Chamber of Commerce-Cialis-Just for Men-Happy to Be There Bowl in late December against the 8th place team from the Big East.
So you are good with maybe losing a couple Louisiana schools to budget cuts and 2 or 3 SLC Texas teams leaving. Who are we going to play? Deweyville Tech, Texas State School for the Blind, Texas College or some other school half the nation as never heard of. Even if you are invited to "the Carl's Jr.-Budget Airlines-Shreveport Chamber of Commerce-Cialis-Just for Men-Happy to Be There Bowl in late December against the 8th place team from the Big East." The game will be on TV and most of the football fan's in the nation will have heard of the team you are playing. And not just playing these new SLC schools in football but every sport the school has. ::) BTW, the Big East in 5-6 years may not be the same conference it is today.

Can someone give the name to Lumberton's Head Coach
bigred360 replied to bigred360's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
2006 was his first year as head coach.
Thanks for the responses. He has done a great job there. I remember when there was a time if Lumberton was on your schedule you marked that game as a W. He has really changed things there. -
Gosh, you guys keep posting long messages about going FBS or staying FCS. Well, it all depends on things not really in Lamar's control. If UTSA, Texas State and SHSU left the conference and they add a couple DII schools the fan's/students/alumni/administration will not like that either. They may not say that publicly but they don't want to play in a water-down conference just to be the big fish in the pond. At that point we aren't just talking about football but all the other sports (non revenue producing). I think at that point the students/fan's/alumni would rather play North Texas, ULL, ULM, Houston, UTEP, Tulsa, and the like. As for the stadium expansion, I remember reading Dr. Simmons already has architectural drawings for Provost Umphrey to go up to 30,000 at its current location. Now, I'm not talking about this happening tomorrow but 5-6 years down the line. I think we at Lamar need to keep our options open. Right now, I'm just happy we are playing football at Lamar. In addition the student fee is to fund the football program so what happened in 1989 will not happen again.
