3. Thanks for the confidence in LU hanging 60 on Webber. But, I think Coach Woodard will play everyone on the active roster Saturday and then get ready for SE Louisiana.
4. I'm sure Coach Woodard and co. did their homework on this kid. I do know he is a walk-on and not on a scholarship.
5. 11494.1  I found it interesting that the top three WR's from Lamar were teammates of Bevil at Navarro Junior College. Not surprising since Coach Woodard recruited them to the JC, and they were 10-1 the year after Woodard left. However, there was a WR from Lafayette named Kendrick Prejean. I had never heard of him, so I went to searching.  I found it weird that a guy from Lafayette would not be on any of my recruiting list, plus he is not in the Lamar media guide, nor is he mentioned on the three deep. Yet, he is listed as a junior from Lafayette Charter School. Hum............ OK , that explains it, he didnot play high school football, but why would he be a junior? Then I notice a Facebook page for a semi-pro team in Lafayette named the Lafayette Hurricanes. In 2008 it says Newcomer of the Year was a Kendrick Prejean. Could this be the same guy? Does anyone in Lafayette know of this semi-pro team? The guy has no background in the Lamar press section of the roster, which is strange. I am not making any acquisations, but it reminds me of the kid that played basketball out in Odessa last year. He got away with it for a year at Odessa High until he went to a AAU tournament in Arkansas and got recognized by a Florida coach. He played high school ball in Florida, been cut by a JC in Illinois and decided to move in with a cousin in Texas and try high school again. He would have never been caught if not for the AAU tournament. This Prejean guy just dropped out of the air, but caught 3 passes for LU on Saturday night. There is always a chance there are more than one 21 year old Kendrick Prejean from Lafayette. But I ain't buying it if the NCAA looked past this squad as not being a semi-pro team when the advertisement called them semi-pro. [Hidden Content]

7. Yep, and it's only Tuesday. Wish there was some way for a standing room only crowd. Heck, we could have two records in consecutive weeks. Andre Bevil and his passing record and one for attendance.
8. Yep, the game is sold out! But, I'm disappointed that they aren't going to have standing room only behind the endzones. I was told they are worried the grass there isn't ready and could get muddy which they don't want. However, I wish they would have standing room only on the concourse at the Montagne Center.
9.
I hope LU will try to get a home & home with both La Tech and ULL (USL) over the next 5-6 yrs.  Big home crowds for both and LU would travel well to both.
I agree with you North as those are some "old rivalries".
10. I think this is a great idea and first heard of it on "The Coach Woodard Show" on Fox 4 Sunday night. I hope it catches on with the students/alumni and the rest of the community.
11. We've all been talking about the McNeese game and it was an exciting game but it's Tuesday now and it's time to start talking about Webber. I've heard they run a spread offense and a 3-3-5 defense. Not sure I have ever seen a 3-3-5 defense but maybe someone can fill me in. Is it a better defense versus the pass or the run?
12. Anyone know how much a ticket is for a person who retired from Lamar? My stepfather and mother want to attend the game this Saturday. So I need to know how much his ticket is and hers. Thanks for the information. I guess it I don't see an answer I'll call the ticket office in a couple of days.
13. TexasTerror talking about our basketball program again. Well, while in the Sun Belt and American South conferences we didn't win a league title but those teams (Lamar) would KILL the past few years men's basketball teams because they had better talent on those teams. The reason for better talent was because we were playing in a better basketball conference. Just ask one of the assistant AD's at Texas State who played for Lamar.  8)
14. Thanks for the post coachacola, Coach Wooodard was quoted as saying exactly what I stated in a prior post. This wasn't our "Super Bowl". Just the first game in 21 yrs.
15. UCA was coming into the SLC from after being a DII school. That is why they had to wait 4 yrs. Lamar is already DI in athletics so it is a different situation. Kingkat99, that is pretty funny about your daughter and reminds me when I wouldn't allow family members to wear TCU gear to the house when I lived in Fort Worth. Of course my spouse let them in anyway.  ;D
16. True AggiesAreWe, but I wasn't 100% so I didn't post it.  8)
17.
Did not attend... I was asking around for opinion from both sides of the stands. I've read comments such as... "This was Lamar's Super Bowl" "Lamar had two years to prepare while McNeese had nothing on the Cards and was unable to adjust" "Andre Bevil is the real deal and would be one of the top quarterbacks in the league this year." "McNeese blew several early opportunities that would have put the game out of question in the first half." "McNeese ran a 'vanilla' offense with only about five plays, not wanting to show anything" FYI, coachacola - SLU's Beatty is out 1-3 weeks due to an MCL injury. That's going to be trouble for them. Beatty will probably not be available for the LU game... It is just one game, but I am more optimistic about Lamar's results against Div I competition. Could be 2-2 or 3-1 heading into the SHSU game. The most intriguing game may be that South Alabama game at home on Oct. 16. The Jaguars are a very good team.
Lamar made big-time hits to cause those fumbles. They didn't just drop the football.  ::) They didn't run a "vanilla" offense of five plays. They also ran a fake punt and scored on the next play; a 48 yard pass. Sorry, wrong again! BTW, Lamar had two TO's in the first half with Malcolm Bronson interception setting up a 37-yard FG for McNeese and both ended drives for the Cardinals. Lamar didn't prepare for McNeese for two years. Last year only half the team was on campus and they did mostly conditioning drills and such since there was no equipment for the players. Plus, they only practices three times a week last year. There is video on the net of Lamar and since Coach Whitten was at SHSU they had that film to prepare defensively. On offense they could prepare because they run the same 4-2-5 defense. It is a long season and this wasn't the "Super Bowl" for Lamar. Yes, we wanted to win but it was just one game on the schedule. I for one am glad to hear this talk from the coaches and players.  8) Maybe some of the alumni/students/family/friends of the football team treated it like the "Super Bowl" but the coaches and players didn't.   Here is a post on anygivensaturday by a former McNeese player. Classy post IMO. FormerPokeCenter    Again, congrats on an excellent performance by the Cards. Great fans, too...I spoke with a few of them after the game and I was impressed. It was very cordial, even though you could tell they were very spirited...    I think when you see McFans say that we were vanilla, you have to understand that we lost the Conference player of the year at QB and an All American tailback, so we're used to seeing some fireworks, offensively. We may not have the personnel to play like that this year...    You guys took us to the wire. We have Missouri this week, so that could get u-g-l-y pretty quickly. Us Cowboy fans are hoping against hope that our coach was holding back against you guys, but based on myu conversation with him after the game, I don't think that's the case. He said he was scared to death in the second half. We prepared all week for your athletic transfer at TE, but you guys didn't use him...we didn't work on QB containment and Bevil has some definite wheels....    The "vanilla offense" was posted with no disrespect intended. Most of our fans have been spoiled by what we used to be able to do on offense...    Not sure those are realistic expectations this year.... [Hidden Content]
18.
Just curious why Lamar, a small commuter college in a small city, would want to go DI anyway. I would think the lack of success among the Louisiana schools (Lafayette/Monroe, etc.) would be enough reason to avoid this, at least for right now. It just seems pre-mature to me. LU has a shot at building a top notch I-AA program. Why bite off more than they can chew? Give the fans a chance to be part of a winning tradition (fill the seats, etc.) before you submit an application to what will be a sure blood fest for years to come. If you want to see empty seats at Cardinal Stadium, go DI too fast. We have proven time and again that we are fair-weather fans who flock when things are good and hide when they're not. Give the fans something to flock to for a few years, maybe forever...before jumping into the abyss. Just my two cents! God bless!
Lamar is already DI and play in the FCS sub-division.  Lamar has over 15,000 students and Beaumont has over 100,000 residents. I'm sure Lamar won't go FBS for the next few years but if and when they do the program will recieve larger payouts to travel to BCS schools. Then I'm sure there will be plenty of people wanting to see Lamar versus other FBS programs who won't come to a FCS school but will if they are FBS. Just my opinion. God Bless you too.
19. Thanks Javelina for the clarification here.

21.

My thoughts about the first half:  Lamar's pass-blocking is very good, and Bevil has a great arm.  He's made a couple of dumb throws when he should scramble, but he's generally done well.  The running game needs some serious work, and it needs to start at the line of scrimmage.  On defense, the pass rush is pretty good, and coverage isn't bad.  But McNeese is getting big push on running plays, and Lamar's linebackers don't seem to be reading it well.  Tackling hasn't been very good, and that's what's led to the big runs.  The McNeese fumbles were all caused by big hits from Lamar, so they have the speed and strength, but they really need to work on their tackling. I'd say that Lamar's best player on offense is Bevil, and their best player on defense is linebacker Asim Hicks. Overall, it's a good first half after a 21-year lay off.
This was on point!
Bevil is great but there are some good WR's on offense. On defense Jacody Coleman is the best player in my opinion.
22.
Hey bigred... So what you are saying is the coaching staff didn't go watch McNeese at all for 2 years?  ;D
No HoopInsider, I'm sure they did but half the team wasn't on campus and they didn't even get equipment to the players until early spring. I guess you think you can get ready for the #11 team in the nation with half the team on campus and those wearing T-shirts and shorts.  ;D
23.
Some brief thoughts from the sidelines: -Lamar does not have a running game. If they did, they may have won this one. -Lamar had 2 years to prepare for McNeese State, MSU didnt have much on LU, and did NOT do a very good job of adjusting on the run. -McNeese gave Lamar some very good gifts = fumbles. If MCN doesn't fumble, they probably win this game by 2-3 TDs. -Bevil throws a very good ball. -LU was more physical than MCN. -19,000+ in attendance. -Artificial turf was very slick. Will be interesting now to see how LU will matchup with other SLC teams, because other teams will have tape on them. I don't know much about Weber International, but I would think it will be an easy win for Lamar.
Lamar didn't prepare for McNeese for 2 years because HALF the team wasn't on campus. McNeese didn't just lay the ball down. Lamar's defense was laying the wood out there. Talk about McNeese has 3 TO's and Lamar had 2. So, it is not like Lamar played a perfect game. We do need a ground game. On defense I was impressed with Coleman. Yes, there is video on the net about Lamar. Plus, they had film of SHSU when Whitten was there to go on.
