Are you saying WOS would still win? I just saw where coach Thompson made it a point to say be respects Silsbee. It sounds like he really isn't worried about Silsbee.
Who isn't worried?Stud88 or Thompson.I can assure that coach T knows if his kids play to their potential for 4 quarters they can win but he worries if they don't they could lose against a team like Silsbee.

I really think this will be another close game.Maybe less than 2 scores at the end.Only way for it to get out of hand in my opinion is if one just falls apart.

Just another post to keep the thread going.
He should have been more precise with his post. Should have said "some" WO-S fans, not all.
OH.Ok.I know there are a lot of WOS poster that have the upmost respect for Silsbee.
BUT THAT DON'T MEAN YOU GOING TO WIN.😁😝

Does wos throw the ball much? If giddings had their started I thing they would have gotten the win last week. How have y’all done against other teams that throw the ball? I’m routing for silsbee in this one.
WOS throws and runs equally. They have a well balanced offense. They prefer to run if they are successful and use it to set up a deep pass play.

If both teams play the best they can, I'm afraid WOS wins by one or two touchdowns.
Most teams don't play a full game that way though. Hoping West Orange shoots themselves in the foot with a turnover and a few dumb penalties. If that happens and Silsbee plays mostly mistake free football, the Tigers can take it.
Sad to say you will probably get your wish. They getting a little better but still turn the ball over and we have had many a td called back due to penalties. Been able to overcome them by our defense mostly but you don't want to give Silsbee any momentum.

Kendall Cleveland all talent and no guts. Now his brother Brian Cleveland and ernest Andersen were the best backs wos ever had. The year herschel walker won the Heisman at Georgia, ernest had more yards than him at Oklahoma state when its was the big eight. And as for dillion, he still riding that pine at asu u but of course they will blame that on coach t some how.
They have had a ton of good backs but Cleveland and Andersen is what you set your mark too.

The 1990 Silsbee backfield is still maybe mu favorite even tho ww didnt make the playoffs. It was Doss, Dill, and Arline. I think All 3 had over 1000 rushing or close to it. The old veer offense.
Ah the old Houston veer. After we got beat by Ennis and their spread offense in the SC,(2000 ) we trashed the veer and went to the spread.Took a couple of years to really learn it.

In 1992, Silsbee beat PNG in the playoffs and lost in the 2nd round to La Marque. That was in La Marque's hey days of going to state every year.
La Marque who.LOL I can still here the crowd...WE ARE THE La Marque Cougars.

It’s a pick em according to Harris ratings; should be one helluva battle
On another board.Poll has WOS 87.50 % to 12.50 % for Silsbee. They had about the same spread for Giddings over Silsbee.lol

Notable Mustangs from my time in Silsbee were the Feathers brother, Lock, Eric Anderson, Chris Cole, Norris McGhee, and Kendal Cleveland.
Who were your standouts for Silsbee?

I remember seeing Jack in our first scrimmage.Boy did he look bad.I thought then....we in deep sh.....
Kid just had jitters being thrown in there out of the blue.He just kept getting better game after game.

I hope Silsbee wins, but I'm taking wos. As I don't think they'll make as many penalties and mistakes, and the more athletic team with familar opponents.
WOS has their share of those, especially offensive penalties.Have had a slew of td's called back.Three in one game I can recall. Talking about mistakes.I remember when we played and I think it was Silsbee, they were fixing to score with time running out and no timeouts left. They were at our 5yrd line or close to it.The clock was running and just seconds left....it was fourth down and the qb ran up to the line and spiked the ball to stop the clock.Everyone was in shock.Remember these are just kids and sometimes they do things they know better not to do but in the excitement of the moment they get brain freeze.

Around the 4A Div II ranks we've got the runner up in 6 playing the winner in 6, the runner up in 13 playing the winner of 13 and runner up in 10 playing the winner in 10. Interesting.
Only Region 1 pairs teams from different districts.
So the thing about teams that are familiar with each other is playing out all around the state. Rivalry games in the quarter finals.
Wimberly and Navarro are playing in the Alamodome. That's seems like a fun venue for HS football. But no chance for the downpours Tigers like so much.
And all those runner ups have a shot.Ain't that cool.

The Bleacher coaches will complain, but youll see a lot of deep fades thrown by Silsbee. The key is to throw away from the safety, and make a catchable throw. Short outs, screens, and tight end routes dont work against their defense. And with as many guys as they have in the box, you can't protect long enough to throw slow developing crossing routes. As far as running the ball, it's all about alignment, where does CT have the guy you cant block. When this is figured out you'll see the power work. Sweeps, bootleg , jet sweeps, don't work. It's a bigger chess game than people realize. QB has got to be good, and receivers have to make plays. The fact that these coaches and teams are so familiar with each other, tells me this will be a close game. Turnovers and refs will probably decide this one, one way or the other.
And that is the unknown factor.Silsbee does it,WOS does it.The team that can overcome those unknowns will probably win in a close match.

If Pop has a game like he did against La Grange and the running game is clicking,Silsbee is in for a long night. But Silsbee isn't La Grange so that's probably not going to happen. So I'll hang my hat on WOS defense to secure the win.

. This is where the game will be won imo. Silsbee offense vs wos defense.
That's not going to happen. They would have a better chance taking advantage of miscues by the WOS offense.

I hope both teams watched the game last night and saw first hand what happens when a team just doesn't play to their potential.
