I don't know about that ranking for Newton at #1. The Eagles are playing a little better than I had expected at this point, but got a whole lot of sophomores both starting and getting significant playing time. Lots of room for both improvement and error IMO. Could be really good by playoff time, but that's a long ways off. EC should be ranked higher than #11. Their coach down there has a real good program going. And Kirbyville should be at least #2, right behind Newton. ;)
I see what you did there ;)
Lol he did a little double talk...what if Newton was at #6 Kville should be #7....... ??? -

Kville I believe has something to build own with the players you mentioned, that being said they have some tough games coming up in district.
Whose shoes did he have to fill? Compared to last year it's a major upgrade. If you are referring to previous years, then yes I agree. I think killed is headed in the right direction. This week will be tough. Jasper is much improved with Coach Barbay at the helm, however the kats play jasper tough. It will be a good game. Final tuneup before district starts in 2 weeks. All the district games will be tough and whoever stays healthy will grab the 3 spots. Good luck Kats!!!!!
I was refering to Coach Alvarez. -
I think we have some good pieces to work with. I think after week 1, I'm sure we'll battle for a playoff spot. When you play a team and leave 6 td's and lose by a score,i think you can correct those mistakes. I think we've found a. Emerging playmaker in Garrison Mitchell . I also think that the Memorial fan that says our defense sucks and then backdoors and say that Ozen has a better defense must be smoking. We lost to yall by 3 and yall beat Ozen by a lot more.
Folks seem to be overlooking Central, that might be a mistake......just saying.

Nederland didn't scrimmage West Orange, Vidor did. I really don't think as good as WO-S is, that they would "run through 20-4A" undefeated.

That attitude of "not taking a knee during an injury" definitely reflects the attitude from the top down in png.
It must reflect the attitude of most college and professional programs as well. Taking a knee is something that's only developed in the last few decades, mostly because it's used in the Pop Warner leagues as a way to keep small children calm in cases of injury. If some high school programs want to continue the practice, that's fine, and if others don't, that's fine too. The best way for anyone to handle this - PN-G, Summer Creek, whoever complained about it last year and whoever else - is to just respect the decision of the other teams and move on with their lives. At the end of the day, this isn't that big of a deal.
Nothing to see here folks. Move on -
I find it rather amusing that the fans of 4A teams the the size of Vidor, Nederland, PNG, and Central all like to trash talk about beating a barely 3A school like WOS. My personal opinion is that (most of the time) a 4A school should be able to beat a small 3A school, and a 5A school like West Brook or PA Memorial should be able beat a smaller school like Central. I expect Vidor to beat Bridge City or Silsbee. It wouldn't really surprise me if Nederland or PNG beat WOS. Those bigger schools have way more players and can rotate in players to keep them fresh, while small schools like WOS have quite a few playing both sides of the ball and by the end of the game these kids are worn out. You Central fans keep talking about how good you are and how you are going to run though WOS, even if Central wins the game by the score on the scoreboard, it still won't be much of a victory beating a barely 3A school. Beating WOS does not count in your own district and WOS is not certainly not Ozen, Nederland or Vidor. These are the teams Central has to get past before you fans start trash talking anybody. I think Central is 0-2 right now. BTW, some of you need to check you sig, it is not West-Orange Stark (W-OS), it's West Orange-Stark (WO-S).
;D

I am not trying to ruffle any feathers or calling anyone out but something has to stop. There is way too many posts that are calling these KIDS out by name. I know that they read the boards. Please guys, remember that this is HS football. If it was your son that is out there doing the best he can, would you like someone saying how scared, or not athletic he is? I just don't like people scrutinizing the play of teenagers. They are very impressionable at this age. I'm sure it is not intensional. Just please remember those boys play for the love of the game.
I agree. I believe those png fans who bashed AJ ALL week long on this board should come back and apologize for their doubts in his abilities. I do mention players names. I do this - calling them out for outstanding plays or play on the field. I have kids who play athletics and are under scrunity and I have told them long ago if we are able to accept the applause, we have to learn how to deal with the naysayers. Usually, those naysayers are like that because the are jealous and don't have the ability to hurt you any other way. May we all realize that these are kids who: don't receive any payment for their efforts, spend many hours of practice/.conditioning, give all they have on the field of play, hear their critics all too loudly, stay up late doing homework, who battle physical ailments/injuries, ride uncomfortable buses long distances to get that field of play, help out their families/siblings when they are doing all of the above, have worries and concerns about their lives and futures, and never quit just for the satisfaction of getting that opportunity and making the most of it all. Some programs take a knee in respect for the guy who went down. I'm not offended if the other team doesn't take a knee. It's their decision. On the other hand the last thing some of the kids need to be doing is taking a knee. They need to be moving around so they can stay injury-free. -
We have some work to do on both sides of the ball. Going to have to get these injuries resolved. As far as Tony Brown, Tony caught the eyes of who he needed to and will capitalize on whichever opportunity he takes. Tony as well as the rest of the team have room for improvement.
Brown seems to be a good prospect.
I think the list is good, so far. The Pirates defense is good, but that game last Friday showed some stuff that has to be fixed before district play. We didnt tackle very well, at times and we had some holes in the secondary. I counted 4 passes that hit the receiver right in their hands and they just didnt catch the ball. That wasnt good defense, that was poor offensive execution. Maybe it was a case of expecting your opponent to fall down when you hit him and Im sure the coaches saw that on the game film. I expect there will be some tackling drills this week in practice. Dont get me wrong, I think the Pirate defense is stout, but the offense is outshining the defense right now. Not a bad thing to have an offense that overshadows a good defense.
If the Pirates can shore up the secondary and work on the fundamentals they will be OK...I don't think they are playing they're best ball yet, but I agree with your assessment.

The Indians could surprise some people when it counts, If they have the talent Faircloth can have them competing in district.

Just my opinion..i.e. no stats, haven't compared the numbers, but here's how I see it so far. 1. Port Arthur Memorial Titans 2. Nederland Bulldogs 3. West Orange-Stark Mustangs 4. Vidor Pirates Whatcha think am I wrong? :-\
Actually I think I could switch # 2 and 3...I was looking at these defenses as a balanced package, i.e against both the run and pass.
If you base it off PPG and YPG, those four would rank: 1. Vidor 2. WO-S 3. Nederland 4. Memorial But based on those stats, Memorial wouldn't be in the picture, allowing 20 points per game.
I hear ya, stats are a measuring stick...but then you have to get into the weeds a little in comparing who each team played and so forth....
You will not beat WOS through the air! They are vulnerable if you can spread em out and pound it at em, but you gotta be patient and keep working the ground game. I thought we would have faired much better had we taken that approach. At least we could have kept it low scoring and close enough to have a shot.
Excellent point.
