4.
T-High. too much speed.......
Hey, everybody on this forum knows that to be successful a team has to execute plays, they have to be consistent, balanced, and well coached, but yea, at the end of the day…the team with the fastest athletes is usually going to win. For example ...the offensive line is quicker getting off the ball, they have the speed to pull and make big blocks. The defensive line can get penetration before the opposing offense can get in position to block, the defensive backs have the speed to stick to receivers, or come up and play the run. Your receivers get separation when running patterns. Your running backs have explosive speed and the quarterback has the ability to scramble and evade tackles. So yes, Speed Kills!!!...But slow down there a second "Flash" there are other factors that are just as important....the proverbial intangibles....which are sometimes difficult to measure like... Effort, Attitude, Team Unity, and the Desire To Win. These qualities don’t ever show up on a stat sheet, but are worth their weight in gold, and can indeed be the difference between being a mediocre Team/Athlete and being an exceptional one.          My prediction for this game is... the team with the most points on the scoreboard when the clock runs out wins the game...lol.
 5. Good for you Scooter. But I've always thought you were a little retireded.    LOL ;D ;D
 6. Congratulations to State Qualifier David Bolinger from Vidor, first place Region 4 Division 1 132 Wt. Class. Good luck David.  Lift heavy....All Whites..No Reds!!!

 10. Let me try to set the record straight here. First of all tread it was a joke about a fictitious player, a fictitious ice pack, and a fictitious frostbite. I'm sorry that you took it so seriously. I would never make a joke about a real kid with a real injury. I have a son playing varsity football, and he sustained an injury in a game a few years back that took him out for the entire season, so I understand first hand the pain and frustration that brings. In light of all the tragedy our area has struggled with lately I should have been more cautious with my attempt at humor. To any and every Lumberton fan that I may have offended I apologize. As for the players that have been injured my heart goes out to each and every one of them, I pray for a full and speedy recovery. And to all the members of SETXsports I know that sometimes we can get caught up in all the smack talk and rivalries and forget that we are dealing with real people with real feelings, I for one am sure going to try to remember that.
I heard from a good source that after the LC-M game one Lumberton player fell asleep on an ice pack and got frostbite...... which will force him to miss at least two games. ;D ;D ;D
11. Hey guys do you think district 204-A is weaker this year than others?
 12.

I heard from a good source that after the LC-M game one Lumberton player fell asleep on an ice pack and got frostbite...... which will force him to miss at least two games. ;D ;D ;D
pretty stupid joke!
You seem a little irritable. Maybe you drank some bad prune juice, I don't know, but If I were you I'd stay away from sharp objects, lighters, and the sticky hard round things that fall off of gumtrees that hurt when you throw them, and high amounts of caffeine. I'm just sayin'

 14. Vidor will need all their guns-a'-blazin' when they take to the road to play Lumberton. The secondary covered pretty good against Nederland, seems like they're settling in and seeing the game a little better. I'd like to see them be more physical against Lumberton. We need a couple of head hunters roaming the secondary that will make the receivers dread to come across the middle. Also letting receivers off the line without a fight is hindering this secondary ......imo. Vidor can’t afford to let Lumberton's receivers get behind the secondary, and we don't want Hughes scrambling out of the backfield. As for the o-line I see improvement, but we're still not staying on our blocks long enough to be effective at times.......Just my two cents' worth.  GO PIRATES!!!
 15. I'm reluctant to count my chickens before they hatch, but I believe Vidor can win this game.
 16.
Lumberton has 3, possibly 4 starters out, with others playing banged up. Don't know about Vidor.  I would never make a prediction. I just pray for the safety and health of all players from Vidor and Lumberton. May all these guys stay safe as they take the field this coming Friday night.

Great post by goraiders. With all the terrible things that have happened in our area over the past week, its great to see someone worried more about the safety of the kids than the outcome of the game. Bothe teams are young [vidor started 7 soph on def] and both teams have a lot of class.  Should be a great game.  Let's all remember its a game and that we are blessed to be able to go out and watch our kids have have fun and compete.
Amen.  These kids expose themselves to injury every time they step on the field. Football is a game of sudden impacts, a situation where unstoppable forces meets immovable objects. It's a game of cataclysmic collisions, not a cuddling contest and no player walks off the field at the end of the game unscathed. Nonetheless, keeping these young men as safe as possible has to come before winning and should always be the first concern of parents, coaches, trainers and officials.
 17. There will never be another Curtis Barbay,  While this is a huge loss for the Newton family, Coach Barbay's influence reaches far beyond East Texas . Coach Barbay was a tremendously significant figure both on and off the field. He impacted the lives of generations of student athletes, yet this loss will be felt by individuals from all parts of society. He was not only one of the greatest coaches in high school football, he was an exceptional individual that transcended the world of high school sports. His enduring legacy as a role model is one we should all strive to emulate. The King of kings has welcomed the Coach of coaches.  Rest in peace Coach.
 18. Barbay is a towering figure among high school coaches, a mentor worthy of the title Coach. And will continue to give opposing coaches fits as long as he chooses to. Get well soon Coach. Thoughts and prayers from Vidor.
 19.
WOW, I can name 3 upsets of the night in district 20-4a although one of them could probably be discounted, I know the Lions expected they'd win.  ;)
Which upset would you discount?
 20.
Is this what we can expect in years where our talent level is about the same as Vidor?
Talent level and execution are two different commodities. Talent is a factor but execution is the difference between success and failure. The Pirates stepped up and clearly out performed Nederland last night, and was by far the better team. Folks may take jabs at Vidor's "talent level" but last night the Pirates showed up and provided the parting shot.
 21. All I know is, I'm ready for some football.
 22. Words cannot express my shock and sadness at hearing the news of this young mans passing. My prayers and thoughts go out to the Garrett family, may Gods grace console his dear family, friends and the entire West Orange-Stark community.
 23. I’ll be honest.  I don't know what to expect in this game, but here are a few things I'm certain of. One thing I'm sure of is the Pirates will step on the field ready to win. (This will be their first home game of 2010.) I am also certain that these young men still maintain enough pride to rise above all the negativity and doubt and continue to believe in themselves as a team.  Another thing I have no doubt about is that the Vidor coaching staff will work hard to put the Pirates in a position to win. The next thing I'm certain of is that the 12th Man will be there to support the 11 players on the field. On the other hand here's a few things the Pirates must do to win this game. The Pirates have got to make the Nederland defense respect the pass in order to open lanes for the running game. The o-line must execute their blocks. The Pirates d-line has got to put pressure on the quarterback, and they have to make their tackles, and not give up the big play. Special teams has to continue to do well, the Pirates have a pretty good return man, he usually provides a fair amount of breathing room for the offense and he is capable of taking it to the house. Special teams can help them win this game. I know that there is a lot of uncertainty among Pirate fans as to how this young team will handle the adversity of losing all three non-district games,  well I think this team will get a handle on the things they have struggled with, and turn the corner in district play. Keep in mind that at this point every team is 0/0 in district.  Pirate fans let's not abandon the ship now.
 24.
Vidor runs the wing t? Correct if I'm wrong
Vidor runs the slot-t. Just not very successfully against Bridge City it seems.
 25. Racism isn't born, folks, it's taught. ask any two-year-old.  You know what they hate?  Naps!  End of list. Laundry is the only thing that should be separated by color.
