I think it sad how people take for granted that the kids playing read these post. The comments made about these kids that bust their butts everyday to entertain us on Friday nights are put down and made to feel like they are crap! Come on guys have a little class and remember if we were all as good as we think these kids should be we wouldnt have time to make these derogatory remarks! These kids could be skipping school, getting into trouble or like most kids sitting on their butts playing playstation. Lets support these teams and make predictions without blasting them! And Nederland just showed back up after sitting on the couch all summer long while Vidor was going through 8 hours of extreme training every day. No way Nederland has improved, but Vidor, they are some thoroughbreds this year.
Nederland beat Vidor last yr. by 3 points..props for that, they are also the reigning district champs..standing ovation alright. Here's one thing though that one-dimensional team went as deep as Ned in the play-offs, but hey your posts are always entertaining...you keep pulling for them Dogs OK....but if you keep sucking down that haterade you gonna drown it. -

We ordered as many as we could carry (yes $8 a pop) and headed down to the seats. At least 5 rows in front of us an behind us rapidly made their way to the concession to find they had been informed this was a UIL event. We sipped our beers and turned down lucrative offers from several folks. You would have thought we had a trey full of false teeth in Dayton....... ;D ;D
Lol.....great story. ;D

My inquiry was to why Vidor doesn't just enjoy the success instead of always demanding respect from other cities. It wasn't meant as a sleight in any way. I wouldn't quite classify that as anyone being in my head. That usually require paranoia. And nothing will be free in 10 days.
You post in another thread about how you laughed at Mathews honest assessment of Nederlands team, you ridicule him as if he's a joke. Then you put together this elaborate theory that Mathews is pulling some kind of ploy to make Vidor look good win or loose, what did you call it "coach talking point 101". Do you even know Coach Mathews, and how can you assume to know his motives? Then you start this diatribe about some imagined chip on Vidor posters shoulder...give us all a break man and stop playing childish games. You talk so much about respect, try having a little self respect. -
I don't understand why nearly every post I read about Vidor seems to have a glaring overtone to it; which is nobody respects us, nobody gives us credit, nobody believes in us, Mathews isn't respected etc. Get over it already. I think most people have given credit where credit is due. Vidor fans seem to have this complex they can't get rid of. You have a great program going right now. Enjoy it instead of constantly trying to defend it. You may not have the tradition and history of programs like WO-S, PN-G, Ned, etc., but that doesn't mean people don't respect what Vidor has been doing over the last few years, which is building a good program. There is quite a bit of animosity toward Nederland and MC fans in general from some Vidor fans and I am not sure where it comes from. This isnt new either. It was this way even back when Vidor was a doormat. I don't know if it stems from the rivalry complex or what, but it seems almost childish at times. I know a lot of what's said is general smack talk, and I can definitely understand and appreciate that aspect, but enjoy the ride and don't get lured in to traps. Act like you've been there before. Let Friday nights do the talking, not who beat who by how many points in X amount of overtimes, etc. Nobody can dispute whether or not Vidor is a step up from where it's been in the past. Can Vidor sustain it and become a tradition-rich program? Only time will tell, but trying so desperately to demand respect overnight from everyone isn't going to get you there.
GoDogs27..lol I think that Vidor is living rent free in your head right now..... ::) -
I would assume the slot T is a version of the dead T that uses a SLOT back. And the wing T is a version of the dead T that uses a WING back. But I'm no football guru.
I'm not an expert by any means, but The Texas Slot-t which Mathews runs is very much a 4 back offense, it isn't just simply the way that the flank is aligned (flanker outside the tight end vs flanker inside the tight end). Some people see it as a mix between the Power I and the Wing T. Also the wing and halfback our on different sides in the slot-t and the wing-t, the Wing-T is set to the strong side - TE and WB - the FB and TB are in dead back positions. In the Slot-T, the TB (Slot) is set to the Quick side opposite of the TE, the FB and HB are in the dead back positions, the HB does more lead blocking and is the ball carrier when running back to the quick side. The slot (TB) is your speed back and the HB (dead back behind the Strong Tackle) is a power back and lead blocker for FB on the dive and on the perimeter for TB. -

Support your team thru good and bad, and do it how ever you want. There is NO shame in singing your teams accolades...Its a shame if you don't. Have a great season! See you at Homecoming!
I agree with all that you have said, my family and I have supported the Pirates since the late 80's. Supported our Pirates even when every play Coach Law called was, up the middle, up the middle, pass, punt! The fans even used to chant that during the games. Coach Pat Murphy was a friend of ours and a good coach. Mathews has been a great friend of my family's and has done some amazing things with the team and the program since taking over and even more so the past few years. I remember when we were 5A and played the Houston school and used to get the crap beat out of us. Good luck to all of our opposing teams this season and even greater luck to My Pirates!! I hope to see us sweep the district this year. ;D
Props for hanging in there, those were some tough years for Vidor. Mathews program is beginning to turn the corner...the kids believe in the system and are taught the offense from the Jr. high school level. There was even a learning curve for the staff but the program seems to be gelling. -
It's obvious what Matthews is doing. The is coach talking point 101 before a good game: talk about how great your opponent is and how dominant they are, etc. That way, if you pull off the upset, your program looks even better. And if you happen to lose, you were supposed to. It's classic. As soon I saw his comments I had to bust out laughing. Most coaches aren't as transparent with it, but Mathews went overboard with the pomp for Nederland. Lol
Some Ned posters crack me up. Whats obvious to me is that no matter what Mathews said in the article, he'd be criticized for it.
