I totally agree!! 82-6! Passed the ball 63 times last night (several in the 4th quarter after leading 68-6 at end of 3rd), went for 2 five times (3 of those attempts were after SFA was already leading 25-0). Even though the 2nd team and some 3rd teams played half the 3rd and all the 4th, it was obvious Harper was looking to score as many as he could against a very outmanned McMurray team. Let's hope Woodard has a little more class than that.
Same song, different dance 82-6! Passed the ball 63 times last night (several in the 4th quarter after leading 68-6 at end of 3rd), went for 2 five times (3 of those attempts were after SFA was already leading 25-0).Could it not have been perceived that it gave them a better chance to keep them from scoring (xpt "kicking" is all but a given) and it gave his team perhaps much needed work on the 2pt, whereas it may be the differnce in a "closer" game later in the season, maybe even the difference in his making playoff or not. Even though the 2nd team and some 3rd teams played half the 3rd and all the 4th, it was obvious Harper was looking to score as many as he could against a very outmanned McMurray team. Soooo, they were supposed to do what? Man, if a team can't stop a 2nd and 3rd team from scoring, maybe we should say, "I hope Woodard coaches and recruits better than the coach from McMurry Let's hope Woodard has a little more class than that.Going for 2pt and playing your 2nd and 3rd teams does constitute a classless act, let hope Woodard RESPECTS HIS PLAYERS more than to lay down and punt on 1st down or throw interceptions/ fumbles on purpose, etc Really, I've seen this discussion before, but no one seems to have a solution that would be fair to the team doing the butt kicking, only comments that degrade the coach who has prepared his team, and the players that usually dont get a chance to play. Doesnt the back up players get to write home and tell mom & dad that hey, I caught (or threw) 10 passes for 210yds and scored (threw) 3 TD's, not their fault his team was already up by 35 pts when he entered the game
i agree it tough to tell a pine rider dont play hard. The solution really is dont schedule a team that is not one but two divisions lower than you with zero athletic scholarships. Play someone on your level or just below that may have a chance to win and you wont have this problem.

See the difference. (t y p e d v e r y s l o w s o y o u c a n u n d e r s t a n d ) Most that are defending this MAN, are concerned with his chances of playing football, he has had chances. What about the last kid to get cut from LU, what about HIS chances? What if he, goes out and becomes a drug addict, or a drunk.....I guess he will be a THUG, cause he wasnt good enough to help LU win a SLC championship. Like I've said, if/when a family members of yours (any of you supporting this THUG) dies due to someone (Oden or otherwise) driving drunk or drugged, I'm 100% sure your opinion about athorities giving these people multiple chances will change.
You get off your high horse. So I assume any that's accused of breaking the law shouldn't be given anymore chances at anything? Has Oden been convicted yet? No, but you believe Lamar and all other colleges should ban him from playing football. Do you also believe anyone that has a DUI be banned from having a job too? And so are only you and puddin tane have been calling this guy a thug. He hasn't robbed and beaten anyone. Who exactly has he hurt? I've yet to hear an answer to that question. Dr. Simmons has done wonders for Lamar so I'll trust him and his judgement on this. If he feels that the coaching staff shouldn't sign these guys then he'll let the Woodard know, but until that happens I'll support Lamar, Woodard, and the way they are running the program.
Playing college football is a privilege so comparing that to having a job(which one needs to survive) is weak sauce....and so is the notion of as long as nobody else was hurt who cares what they do...
I was at the practice tonight. It's going to be a battle for that #1 QB position. All three looked good. Jeremy had a little more zip on the ball than the other two and was much quicker and faster in running the zone read. Jeremy also was the only player who stayed after practice for voluntary workouts. I predict he will be the man by the 3rd game of the season.
Youre a JJ homer though so I would have expected nothing less of your assessment, except that I figured you'd have said by the start of the season he would be #1.... -

Coach stated that we are going to open it up this year as they kept it conservative last season with Bell being a true freshman....but with backs like Flanders and Franks and a return man Like Closner that puts your starting field position at midfield fairly consistently we may not have to open it up all the time....I doubt your Cards are a last place, if everything falls into place like it could for you guys you very easily could and should be in the mix.

So add this into the already horrible problem of the parking shortage on campus.
I don't go to Lamar, but I'm pretty familiar with the campus.. There is not that much available room to add new parking lots anywhere near the stadium. Their best option would be to go "Big School" with the addition of a couple of parking garages to save space while still creating parking options... That's what all universities do now.. And Lamar IMO has no other option to address the need of parking.
Im not saying build new lots. Im saying open more lots up for tailgating. As long as the people are standing in line to pay for it there is no reason people cant tailgate all over the place. Similar to UT tailgates that go on in lots all over downtown for blocks away from the stadium. -

Lamar and SHSU invited to the WAC?
kingkat99 replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think it's pretty funny that Lamar has had a program again for 2 years now, and is getting more respect about moving up than a program like Sam Houston that has had a program in place for so long now. lol
Lamar should get more respect (With regards to moving up) but not because your program is leaps and bounds better than SHSU, but because your school has more money, has a stadium that basically meets the bare minimum of attendance already, your attendance is night and day different than SHSU and probably most importantly your administration and fans desperately want to make that move and are willing to do what it takes to make it happen and SHSU's is maybe 50/50 split on the idea at best...I personally think it would be an utter disaster for our program if we made this move at this point. -
I wonder what SFA is thinking. SHSU would not be allowed to play at SFA and SFA won't only play at SHSU. Without that game SHSU already low attendance will drop further unless some huge names play at SHSU.
I doubt the SHSU side of this "Rumor" is true. I was at the Football Dinner/Auction last month where Bobby Williams stated the plan is to become the best FCS football team we can be while preparing to become an FBS school in the "Future". Also when he showed the slides for their presentation to potential FBS conferences he specifically said "this is a small part of our presentation we will give when we are asked" not that He has already given...as to the SFA game it is scheduled to be played at a neutral location for the next 4 seasons so the home and home issue may be a mute point, but Im not sure how that works exactly.... -
I was with you until the last sentence. We couldn't be a doormat for 10+ year if this is just our second year of the program. Secondly, this defense is going to be a lot better than you think because they will have played in the 4-2-5 scheme for a year. A few of the guys played other positions in the past and will have a second season at their position. Then you can't put a limit to the amount of improvement being able to workout in the new Athletic Complex will have on the whole team. The weight and conditioning facility is really aweome as I have been able to see it first hand. This team with over 20 seniors will do better the TT prediction of 4-7 but probably not as good as my wishful 8-3. BTW, there are still a couple of scholarships open and if a good RB becomes available Lamar will sign them.
Slow down and read...he said dormant...I think you finish 6-5.
I would hope with some of the people you guys have brought on board you will make significant improvements in 2011 and 12. For some reason people think that because a school is D2 they are somehow inferior to FCS, but look at what UCA did in football their first few seasons in the SLC, they were kicking everybodies tail. They have since leveled off but have never ever been an uncopetitive whipping boy for anyone so depending on the schools moved up it doesnt have to be a negative thing. -

We will not let Txst and Lamar go FBS and us stay FCS. Why would we? In our capital campaign we raised over 61 million dollars in four years in a down economy so money isn't as big of a deal as some may think. If there is a reason to get behind something our alums will pony up the cash. (By the way the goal was 50 miilion in five years) I think our two schools are joined at the hip. Unfortunately, I think Lamar is driving this whole thing. You guys want to jump a lot more than we do. If Lamar wants to go bad enough the Lamar University "big wigs" will make it happen. Yall will jump and (by default) so will we.
According to katfans, Lamar will be jumping off a cliff if we go FBS. Are you saying SHSU will jump off a cliff if LU jumps?: Sounds brainless to me a school not being able to think for itself. SHSU, Lamar's shadow. I mean think about, SHSU can't move on issues until Lamar decides. LOL, losers.

Wow! You missed it! Let me simplify it for you UNLV: For everyone else: We (SHSU) would prefer to stay but may have to adjust our plans contingent upon potential movements in the FBS (Lamar included).
If you prefer to stay FCS, STAY FCS. Do what is best for SHSU. You don't see Lamar letting SHSU lead it around. Why Lamar? Why not say 'if TX st goes FBS, then SHSU will go. Why link yourself to Lamar. You have more in common with TX st. Lamar played football at the highest level, Tx st has not. Lamar use to be in the Sunbelt, Tx st did not. Lamar is just moving back to a level it was before, Tx st is in new territory. Why not SHSU go attach itself to TX st jock. Get off ours, creepy.

1) Um... You are aware that Texas State is already going to the WAC right? 2) We are doing what is best for SHSU. Being in a diluted SLC while our peers are in a higher (but yet equally weak) conference isn't a good look for our school. 3) Why Lamar? Duh, because Lamar is still in the FCS with us. Don't get me wrong Lamar did play in the SBC (not exactly what you call the "highest" level) but where are you now? 4) SHSU isn’t on anyone’s “jockâ€. This is Sam Houston State, a school named after Texas’s greatest hero.
So UTSA and Texas st leaving does not dilute the SLC so SHSU does not move up. But if Lamar moves up, then the SLC is diluted. Sounds to me like the SLC is nothing without Lamar.
No UTSA and TXST leaving does not dilute the conference from a football perspective because UTSA never has ever played a down of football and Lamar effectively replaces TXST to keep the number of football playing schools at it current level. -
